I like the type of interaction you can get with Twitter/Jaiku/Friendfeed, I love the random things people link to, I like the immediacy of it and I like that I can discuss several topics in a day without posting twenty times to a blog and pissing off my entire friendslist every time I get an urge to post a few sentences.

The whole "ewwwwww, it's not like reeeeeeal blogging!" thing is getting really, really old. It's starting to fade a little as people become resigned to the inevitable, but there's still enough to go around. Then again, I vaguely remember people having the same reaction to blogging, so it's not surprising. Irritating, but not surprising. Hell, I still think text messaging is evil, so I can't really be shocked by a kneejerk reaction to change, can I? (I don't care what any of you say, I will never text anyone. NEVER.)

I don't think the world is moving away from blogging. Micro-blogging serves a lot of purposes, but the simple fact remains that I wouldn't be able to post all of this in 140 characters or less. But just because it's not the blogging we're used to doesn't mean it's worthless. Plenty of people have LiveJournals and Blogspots and Wordpresses where they go on and on about what they had for lunch or what they thought of their favourite show or plenty of things that most of the world doesn't really give a shit about. To imply that this is primarily committed by microbloggers is...well, it doesn't make you the shiniest penny, does it?

This blog has never really been about ranting, it's been more about random links of interest. And to be honest, all my random links end up here via Google Reader, and then this one just gets spillover. Spillover's just not good enough, is it?

But what about when I do want to post something that's more than a link or 140 characters? I suppose there's always LiveJournal, but that just doesn't feel very...I don't want to say professional, because that's the last thing I am, but it seems like more of a fandom space than a general geek space. I suspect that the answer lies somewhere around here (I blame Kevin Rose for putting that thought into my head), only I just haven't figure out the details yet.
