XML, RDF,RSS, and Atom Business?

It's been a long day at work and you're in no mood to cook dinner or go out. Time to count on the reliable pizza delivery guy. The order is called in and he promptly arrives with smokin' hot pizza within 30 minutes as promised. If it were only that easy with a picky family where no one can agree on the same restaurant for dinner. One wants Mexican, another wants Chinese, and another wants a burger and Mexican. Instead of running to three different places, you call a delivery service that goes to all of them and brings it to you. What could be easier in getting a meal without cooking it or fetching it?

RSS, XML, RDF, and Atom are the food delivery guy of the Internet. The content they deliver is mixed and cooked elsewhere on the Internet just like the meal isn't made on your door step and the acronym fellows bring the content to you via software or an online application. Instead of trying to remember all the places where you like to go to get the latest news, it all comes to you once you order your food.

Click on any of those orange or blue RSS, XML, or RDF buttons and you see unreadable text. Some of it is readable, but reading between the is slow and difficult. In this case, you've got the raw ingredients of the content known as a feed. To make it easily readable, download a feed reader that can interpret (aggregate) the ingredients or sign up for an online service that can do the same.

When the software or application is ready to go, click on the orange or blue button (or "Syndicate This Page," or whatever is along these lines) and copy the resulting URL from the address box. Paste it into the application to cook the ingredients where it's delivered to you ready for your enjoyment.

Syndication is a not a new concept on the Internet, but it’s growing in popularity as more Web sites and newsletters are churning content to turn it into syndicated files, which are fed into an aggregator. Think of it as the content that's ready to travel anywhere it needs to go. Grab the feed and feed it to the aggregator, another way of bookmarking (or creating a favorite) a site because you wish to come back again another time. But how often did you go back to the site through your bookmarks / favorites?

Instead of schlepping from site to site in search of information, I have it all in front of me via the aggregator. The feeds are sorted in folders by topic for easy finding. If I'm writing about the latest virus or worm, then I open the security folder with the security-related feeds and scan them. Scanning content through aggregators is easier than on a Web site because it's in one folder with headlines and maybe a short summary. On a Web site, you're only getting the benefit of that site's news and no where else. The folder has news from over ten resources including blogs, news sites, and newsletters.

Any content can be syndicated. It's a matter of having the backend process in place, which is dependent on the application used for managing the content. If a site doesn't have such resources, then there is software for entering content to create a file with the feed for posting on the site.

Most aggregators have exporting capabilities so the feed can be shared with others interested in the same topic. If you're interested in my security feeds, I can export them into, in most cases, an OPML file and you can import it into your aggregator.

Spam filters are preventing readers from getting newsletters or they get lost in the spam pool. Offering a feed for the newsletter is a compromise. Readers can get the content, only instead of it coming to the emailbox, it comes through the aggregator. It's a way around spam. Like everything else, it has its advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages:

* Filters can't stop the newsletter from reaching its destination.
* The recipient will get it - if the server is down, it'll download next time and email can get lost.
* The feed can be syndicated providing more exposure for your content.

Disadvantages:

* Rely on readers to open aggregators like they open email client, but some aggregators are built-in with an email client like NewsGator and there are online aggregators like Bloglines, which can be your home page.
* Metrics won't be as complete, but it's still there through the links.
* Not as pretty as HTML-based newsletters.

If the feed is automatically created, what have you got to lose? You're providing another way for your readers to get your content just like you can get pizza in different ways: go to the restaurant, have it delivered, or make it at home. More applications are adding syndication capabilities, which make the process effortless. Some have said they won’t read something unless it has a feed.

Syndication works better than bookmarks. With bookmarks, you click on a site that might have the security information and arrive there to find it doesn't. So, back to the bookmarks to click on another site. Lather, rinse, repeat. With aggregators, there is no jumping from site to site. Scan the headlines right there until you find what you need.

There was a time when we didn't have the option to have pizza delivered to our doorstep. When we're too tired, we know we can rely on the delivery guy. In term of content, expect to see it show up at your doorstep more often than the pizza guy plus it's cheaper with the cost only coming from the software though there are many free options available. Syndication is here to stay and should be added to a company’s communication toolbox rather than as a replacement. Witness it by watching for RSS, XML, RDF, and Atom out there.

Pleasing Google is paramount on the world wide web. Considering that this search engine giant gets as much as 80% search engine traffic, ranking highly for target keywords in Google's search engine results page (SERP) is critical to attracting visitors to a page.

Getting in Google's good graces is not difficult, provided that you understand what factors the search giant emphasizes when determining a site's page rank.

Inbound Links

The links you post to other sites are not as important as the links other sites post to your site, which are known as inbound links. The more inbound links a site has from other sites within its niche, the better. As with outbound links, it's important that the sites linking to you are high quality. These sites should have a high page rank and be relevant to your content.

External (Outbound) Links

Links are extremely important in Google's algorithm. Websites must link to other quality sites within their niche in order to prove their relevancy. Again, quality is key. This is probably the best keyword research tool available, and best of all, it's free! Technically, it is the Google Adwords Keyword tool. It was basically designed to help people who use PPC - Pay Per Click for promotions. But anyone can use this information to pick out domain names, for article marketing, to enhance your organic SEO rankings, to see what other people are doing with their websites, and on and on.

The first thing to understand is that this only returns results from Google's search engine. Granted, this is the monster search engine, but it is also important to have the information that other search engines can give you, and there are other keyword tools that will do that for you. I will cover several of them later on in this series.

But for now it's all about the big G

Getting Started.

First of all I suggest getting a Gmail account. It's free, so sign up if you don't have one, or log on if you do. Now, you don't need to do this to get access to the tool, but to be able to use other Google features you will need an account.

A word about your browser. I highly recommend using Firefox. Not only is it safer than using the Explorer browser, it also has many add on features that will make your overall internet experience much more efficient and easier. One thing I do is to open up several tabs at once so I can easily go back and forth between different pages.

Navigate over to: adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal.

Reading over the page you will see that you can get your results tailored to several languages. So adjust that if necessary. Then you will see: "How would you like to generate keyword ideas?" Descriptive Words or Phrases, or Website Content.

Descriptive Words and Phrases

This is where you can type in your keyword or keyword phrase on a subject and see what terms people are using when searching for that particular subject.

Website Content

One smart thing to do is research your competition. If you find a website that you like or one that comes up on the first page in the search engines, (your competition), you might like to find out what keywords they are using. So put in their web address and see what come up. I recommend going through the web addresses of the entire 1st page of the search results. Why? Because these people are doing something right with their keywords, among other SEO tactics. And it will give you a ton of ideas. But don't just copy what they are doing!

If you already have a website, you can put the web address in and Google will return suggestions based on your content.

At this point we want to go with the 'descriptive words and phrases' option. For our example we will use 'dogs' as our keyword. Make sure that you click on the 'use synonyms'. This will increase your result options. Fill in the captcha characters, click on the 'find keywords button', and off you will go.

The Keyword, 'Dogs', shows over 30 million monthly searches a month. Wow! That's an enormous amount of people searching that subject and you can also safely bet that the competition to get their attention is intense.

The default page lists; 'keywords', 'advertiser competition', 'local search' - which are the results of the last available month, and 'global search' - which is the monthly average of searches over a year.

The competition column has a bar which is filled with color, depending on the amount of advertiser competition. The keyword 'dogs, is rabid with competition. (sorry)

In the upper right hand corner you will see "Choose columns to display", open up the drop down menu and select 'show all'. This will give you an even bigger picture of what is going on in the 'dogs' marketplace.

You will be able to see the average cost to use PPC for particular keywords. If you look at the average bid on the keyword 'dogs', it is only 67 cents, which isn't too bad. But before you get excited, understand that everyone who types in the words 'dogs', is not looking to buy something and given the amount of searches you will quickly blow through any PPC budget you have with very little results. Later in this series we will look at keyword searches that indicate that someone is interested in purchasing a (dog related) product.

If you are writing articles and have AdSense on your website, you can see what people are paying to advertise for certain keywords, and then you tailor your keywords to fit into the article to get better paying AdSense advertising on your site.

In the next article we will start using keywords and drill down into the results to try and determine what our best options are.

Your subject line must make your email stand out from the flood of emails in your inbox. But, trying to come up with some 50 characters to summarize what your email is about can be difficult.

How can something so small as a subject line make or break the success of your email campaigns? Well, if the subject line doesn't catch your prospects' attention, then they're not opening, not clicking and not buying. So, here are some tips to writing the most effective subject lines and increase your open rates.

Do's
• Keep them short and sweet. Emails with subject lines of 35 characters or less had a 24 percent open rate compared to those longer subject lines with an average open rate of 17 percent. Get to the point and grab their attention, recipients will comprehend what your email is about faster with shorter subject lines.
• Personalize. Each email should connect personally to the recipient. If the subject is generalized it has a lesser chance of being opened. If you know your recipient's first name, use it in the subject line. Example: "John, here's your April eBusiness Newsletter"
• Show urgency in your subjects. Words like "now", "ends tonight", and "last day" create a sense of urgency for your recipients. If they feel like they will miss out on something good they are more likely to open your email and see what they might miss out on.
• Be creative. Research what others are doing and use it to tailor your emails to your company. With more and more marketers using email marketing these days you have to find ways to stick out without being spammed. So, sign up to other email newsletters for some inspiration.

Don'ts

• Don't guess, test. Run an A/B split test with two different subject lines and compare your open rates.
• Don't let your subject lines fail because they don't invite the recipient to open. According to Forrester Research, most subject lines fail to provide the value the user will experience by opening the message. If they don't feel enticed to see what's behind the click than why should they open your email?
• Don't forget about CAN-SPAM compliance. If your email can't even make it into your recipient's inbox then you have 100% chance that they aren't going to read it. Find out what the compliances are and follow them. Being blacklisted will hurt your results greater than spending the time checking for CAN-SPAM compliancy.

When I look back, to the time before I learned how to make easy online money, it amazes me that he idea didn't cross my mind sooner. The modern school system ingrains in us the doctrine that "education == money," and that specialization, career, and 40+ years of hard work is what life is all about.

In this new Age of Information, however, that need not be the case anymore. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that serious money (and the road to financial freedom) has always come from business and entrepreneurship. With the Internet, it is now possible for average middle class people to easily, quickly, and affordably try their hand in the business world -- the online business world that is, and I'll tell you how to get started in3 easy steps.

Step 1

Sign up for an account on Hubpages.com (it's free.) This is a website that allows you to create a specialty webpage (called a "hub") about a certain subject. It can be anything from weight lifting moves to hypermiling, whatever you prefer. For every hub, you'll generally write an article of 750 -- 1000 words, making it as useful and informative as possible, and including relevant pictures, videos, and other media.

The great thing about Hubpages is that it allows you to add Google AdSense to your hubs, which is a program that display sponsored advertisements and pays you each time a visitor clicks on one (anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars.) AdSense is one of the best ways known to mankind to make easy online money. Hubpages gets lots of traffic, and ranks well in Google, so it's much easier to get traffic (and therefore clicks) than it is when using AdSense on a standard website or blog.

Now, before you dive headlong into hub creation, there is a bit more technique involved to really make it pay. For one thing, you want to use a keyword tool to determine specific keyword phrases that people type into search engines, for example "weight training to build muscle" or "how to make easy online money." Google's AdWord tool will tell you how many monthly searches a keyword phrase receives, as well as the cost per click (CPC.)

Of course, you're going to want to go after keywords that have reasonably high traffic and CPCs, but avoid terms like "money," "make money," "weight loss," etc. These are very common and will be difficult to compete with.

Step 3

Once you have some suitable keywords, pick one and build a hub based on it. Use the keyword in A) the title of the hub, and B) five or six times throughout the text of the hub (assuming it's about 750 words; adjust accordingly for more or less.) It's important to add that the keyword should be incorporated naturally, and not just stuck senselessly in random places (make easy online money.)

Your goal here is to come up high in the search engine results when people type in your specific keyword, and also to have your hub spread around naturally through bookmarking, social networking and link sharing. Using Hubpages as your platform makes this much easier, but making your hubs unique and interesting will only aid the process along.

Create 5 -- 10 hubs that are all loosely based around the same subject, and link them together. For example, put a link to your nutrition hub on your weight training hub and vice versa.
Register with affiliate programs (Amazon.com has one) and add a widget to your hubs displaying related products. If someone visits Amazon through your widget and buys anything, you get a commission!
Link to your hubs from other places: Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, forum signatures, etc. Have your friends do the same. Important: make sure you use your keyword as the anchor text.

That should be enough to get you started. Although this isn't technically a standard "business model" to make easy online money, it still serves the same purpose. The amount you earn depends on you -- how much time you spend researching your hubs, and how many hubs you create.

If you're anything like me, once the profits start rolling in, your appetite to make easy online money will be whetted, and the extra residual income from your hubs will put you in a position to experiment with the real moneymaker: internet business income. Happy hubbing!

William Henry "Bill" Gates III (born October 28, 1955) is an American business magnate, philanthropist, author, and chairman of Microsoft, the software company he founded with Paul Allen. He is ranked consistently one of the world's wealthiest people and the wealthiest overall as of 2009. During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of CEO and chief software architect, and remains the largest individual shareholder with more than 8 percent of the common stock. He has also authored or co-authored several books.

Gates is one of the best-known entrepreneurs of the personal computer revolution. Although he is admired by many, a number of industry insiders criticize his business tactics, which they consider anti-competitive, an opinion which has in some cases been upheld by the courts. In the later stages of his career, Gates has pursued a number of philanthropic endeavors, donating large amounts of money to various charitable organizations and scientific research programs through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, established in 2000.

Bill Gates stepped down as chief executive officer of Microsoft in January, 2000. He remained as chairman and created the position of chief software architect. In June, 2006, Gates announced that he would be transitioning from full-time work at Microsoft to part-time work and full-time work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He gradually transferred his duties to Ray Ozzie, chief software architect and Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer. Gates's last full-time day at Microsoft was June 27, 2008. He remains at Microsoft as non-executive chairman.

He was married on Jan. 1, 1994, to Melinda French Gates. They have three children.He is an avid reader, and enjoys playing golf and bridge.

Fad Diets: Why Are They Bad?

It is not surprising that many people wonder why fad diets are bad when they seem to get results. You will find many sites on the internet claiming significant weight loss in just a few days. That type of weight loss is always temporary. It is usually 90% water which will be put straight back on as soon as your body rehydrates, which it must do if you are not going to suffer severe health problems or die.

Other fad diets are not so obviously crash diets with outrageous claims but they are over hyped diet plans that tend to be fashionable for a while and usually make a lot of money for the inventor in associated product sales. In the best cases these are good nutrition plans which will help you lose weight, but which you could probably have gotten for free from your doctor. In the worst cases they will prove so difficult to follow that you will give up after a week.

The bad of fad diets

1. Diets that promise quick and easy weight loss are usually based on eating more of one food type and none of another. These do not give the benefits that you would get from a balanced diet. They may suggest you take supplements but many supplements are not absorbed by the body unless they are taken along with the foods that the diet has banned. After a few weeks, if you stick to it that long, you may begin to develop nutritional deficiencies.

2. Fad diets are often boring and over restrictive. After the novelty of the first day or two, you will not enjoy your meals. You will then start to crave food constantly and will break the diet. You may even feel guilty, thinking it is your fault that you did not lose weight.

3. Most fad diets do not follow recommendations of the American Heart Association and similar bodies for fat levels in the diet. Often the diet will recommend high fat foods and low carbs which if taken long term, could result in heart disease. The promoters may tell you that the diet is only intended to be followed for a short time. But you probably will not reach your goal weight in that time, and then what? You either continue with a plan that is not good for your health, or stop and probably gain back what you lost.

4. Many fad diets do not help you to incorporate enough servings of fruits and vegetables in your weight loss program, or give you the variety of foods that your body needs.

5. Quick weight loss diets are just a temporary solution and do not help you to make permanent changes to your eating habits. Permanent changes are the only way to remain at your target weight once you reach it. Fad diets encourage yo-yo diet-binge cycles of fast weight loss and equally fast weight gain. This is worse for your health and your self esteem than if you had stayed overweight all the time.

Whatever the publicity materials may say, these diets will not help you in the long term. The best way to sustain weight loss is to eat a varied and healthy diet, do not overeat, exercise regularly and avoid fad diets.

Just like doctors, once they have completed most of their educational requirements nurses generally choose a specialty. Some nurses prefer to work in a small doctor's office, other nurses like the hustle and bustle of working in a busy hospital. Deciding the type of atmosphere you would like to work in will help you decide what type of specialty you should start pursuing. Nurses who are interested in spending time working as travel nurses need to choose a specialty so that the travel nurse agency they are hired by will have an easier time placing them at various locations.

Before a nursing student can settle on a specialty they need to do some research about each available specialty and choose one that best suits their interests and makes the best use of their individual personalities. There are many various specialties for students to choose from, they include; Ambulatory care, emergency care, occupational health, critical care nurses, holistic nurses, and home health care.

Nurses who pursue careers in ambulatory care are not nurses who ride around in ambulances. Locksmiths have to put several thousands of dollars into their tools and equipment investment. They may start out in the hundreds, but the cost will grow as the business grows. If a locksmith is interested in specializing in several areas, there are different tools for each area.

Aside from the normal tools of the trade, such as key blanks and a key making machine, a locksmith must break down the types of key blanks into different categories and buy other items to go along with these. There are at least six different kinds of cutters. A manual duplicator costs $400-$600. A semi-automatic duplicator costs $655-$1600. An automatic duplicator costs $800-$1300.
