Piemonte: Mercedes Bresso si autocandida, Ghigo e Cota inseguono in tandem

Mentre le segreterie dei partiti vagheggiano e dissertano di alleanze, accordi, programmi e facezie analoghe, la presidente della Regione Piemonte, Mecedes Bresso, brucia le tappe e si autoricandida alla guida del Piemonte, lanciando la campagna elettorale per la primavera 2010 al grido di Avanti Piemonte.

Accantonando l’ipotesi di svolgere apposite primarie per scegliere i candidati alle regionali, la Bresso mette così il Pd e i dubbiosi uomini dell’Udc di fronte al fatto compiuto, dando per scontata la sua riconferma.

Di fronte a tanta granitica certezza, si registra invece il dubbio amletico del centrodestra che, non avendo ancora stabilito a chi appaltare la Regione Piemonte (dovendo evitare sia le furie di Bossi il Barbarossa che lo scontento del Popolo libertario), hanno preferito mettere in campo una campagna tandem, in cui figurano sia il verde Roberto Cota che l’azzurro Enzo Ghigo. Per non sbagliarsi entrambi i simboli campeggiano sui manifesti, quando il nodo sarà sciolto, basterà cancellarne uno…

Sacconi, il Welfare e il mercato del lavoro duale: quando si fa piovere sempre sul bagnato

A fine giugno, ho commentato i nuovi provvedimenti anti-crisi annunciati dal ministro Sacconi in un post intitolato “Welfare: nuovi aiuti ai cassaintegrati, piove sempre sul bagnato“. Spiace constatare che i mesi passano, la crisi avanza, provvedimenti sempre nuovi si succedono, ma la musica non cambia: più tutele per quelli che sono già meglio tutelati, e gli altri si possono anche arrangiare.

Leggo infatti sul Corriere della Sera che

Sacconi sta pensando a un incentivo per le agenzie del lavoro che trovino una nuova occupazione a queste persone (i cassintegrati, ndr), se necessario previa formazione. Ovviamente dovrebbe trattarsi di un lavoro stabile, dicono al ministero. (..) Se l’agenzia ricevesse mille euro per ogni lavoratore ricollocato, con 200 milioni di euro si potrebbe trovare una soluzione per 200 mila cassintegrati

Questi nuovi provvedimenti ci forniscono l’occasione per illustrare nel concreto un concetto fondamentale per capire la situazione italiana, ovvero quello di mercato del lavoro duale: da una parte segmenti di forza lavoro ben tutelati, dall’altro i precari. Confrontiamo nel dettaglio le prospettive di questi “mondi a parte”, dopo il salto.

Il lavoratore tutelato è stato assunto generalmente con contratto a tempo indeterminato in un’ente medio-grande, e gode quindi della protezione dell’articolo 18. Oltre a maggiori tutele formali, questo lavoratore (tendenzialmente over 40) risulta essere anche, statisticamente, meno esposto al rischio di perdere il lavoro.

Si trova dunque a piedi più raramente rispetto ad un precario. E, nel caso che accada, gode di più tutele: la Cassa Integrazione, per esempio, che gli corrisponde per mesi/anni, mensilmente, una proporzione tendenzialmente alta del suo salario precedente, senza che in cambio al lavoratore venga richiesto nulla (non si è costretti a cercare lavoro, ad esempio, o a frequentare una formazione).

Nel caso in cui la CIG non si concluda con un ritorno in azienda ma con un ingresso nel mondo della disoccupazione non tutelata, ecco intervenire i nuovi strumenti predisposti dallo zelante ministro Sacconi: le agenzie vengono incentivate a trovare un impiego a tempo indeterminato a questi lavoratori cresciuti - loro sì - col mito del posto fisso.

Se si è invece lavoratori non tutelati, le cose sono un filino più complicate. Innanzitutto, in tempi di crisi, si è primi ad essere messi alla porta, non appena scade il contratto. E non c’è articolo 18 che tenga. Dopodichè, invece di beccarsi mesi di Cassa Integrazione, si riceve - se si ha fortuna - un contributo “una tantum” corrispondente al 10-20% del reddito percepito l’anno precedente.

Allora si cerca un nuovo lavoro: uno qualsiasi, basta portare a casa la pagnotta. Con i nuovi incentivi previsti da Sacconi però, è probabile che le agenzie decidano di collocare prioritariamente gli ex-cassintegrati (per ognuno dei quali riceveranno probabilmente un contributo di 1000 euro) piuttosto che un giovane precario che non frutta loro niente. Come dire: mazziati e cornuti.

Ecco, quando si usa la formula “mercato del lavoro duale” si intende precisamente questo genere di situazione: chi è dentro è dentro, e viene giudicato meritevole di essere aiutato con sempre nuove tutele. Chi è fuori (cioè, nel mercato del lavoro non tutelato) è come se non esistesse: si deve arrangiare da solo.

Peraltro, non si può certo accusare il ministro Sacconi di non mantenere le promesse; mesi fa aveva infatti annunciato:

Dobbiamo evitare che chi ha trent’anni di aspettativa di vita, figli da crescere, un mutuo, resti solo. Per i giovani questa crisi sarà una ventata di responsabilità. Ma è drammatico vedere un cinquantenne disoccupato. Bisogna proteggere innanzitutto le persone adulte, i capifamiglia

In Italia circa 4 disoccupati su 5 non ricevono alcun tipo di sostegno economico da parte dello Stato. Molti di essi sono giovani.

La vicenda di Piero Marrazzo è, ormai, solo un pretesto. Consumati i ragionamenti sui gusti sessuali dell’esponente politico, sull’uso di droghe, e sui capitali investiti in un’attività illegale in Italia non si può dire molto altro.

Eppure a due settimane dall’inizio della scandalo, lo scorso martedì, Alessio Vinci e Bruno Vespa hanno fatto l’ennesima puntata sulle persone transessuali. Neanche Licia Colò ha parlato con tanta veemenza dei panda.

Comunque. Tra questo piattume mediatico, imparentato più con il Grande Fratello che con l’attualità di un paese, spicca l’eccelsa provocazione di Giovanni De Mauro. Direttore di Internazionale.

“Da un lancio dell’agenzia Ansa. Roma, Campidoglio, 14 settembre 2022. Davanti a una piccola folla di amici e parenti, il sindaco della capitale ha unito in matrimonio la signora Natalí e il signor Piero Marrazzo, ex giornalista televisivo ed ex governatore del Lazio.

Nel 2009 la coppia, che nel frattempo ha adottato due figli, era stata al centro di uno scandalo politico che aveva portato alle dimissioni del governatore e a un grande dibattito nazionale sulle unioni civili per gay, lesbiche e transessuali.

Uno dei primi provvedimenti del nuovo governo di sinistra, dopo le elezioni del 2018, è stato proprio il riconoscimento dei pieni diritti civili di queste unioni. Telegrammi di congratulazioni sono giunti da tutto il mondo politico, dall’ex presidente del consiglio Silvio Berlusconi, che da anni si è ritirato a vita privata, e dalla pontefice della nuova chiesa di Roma.

Settimana scorsa l'Italia ha avuto il Progressive Nation Tour, questa settimana ci sono quattro concerti dei Porcupine Tree. Insomma, un'abbuffata di progressive come non se ne vedevano da secoli. Ma ovviamente, c'è prog e prog, e se quello dei Dream theater è potente e pomposo come lo sanno essere gli americani, quello dei Porcupine riflette la loro origine inglese: raffinato, perfetto, coinvolgente. Nel concerto di Milano (prima data, seguita nei prossimi giorni da Roma, Bologna e Padova) non si sono sentiti ritornelli cantati a squarciagola, ma applausi rapiti fra un brano e l'altro.
Steven Wilson, a inizio concerto, si "scusa" con i presenti, perchè la prima metà dello show consisterà nella proposizione per intero dal vivo di The Incident, il nuovo cd della band. Scelta coraggiosa, che in sede live prende vita ancora più organica, con tutti i "movimenti" fusi insieme. Finito quello, inizia qualcosa di bello, suggellato da Russia On Ice, molto emozionante. Un bel concerto lungo, una setlist che si snoda bene nella discografia della band (al contrario di quello che pensavano alcuni, sentendo appunto l'annuncio iniziale!), un classe da maestri. Un'altra bella serata in compagnia della buona musica.
PS: notare la precisione inglese anche nel foglio della setlist, fotografato qui sotto: è gelosamente custodito all'interno di una bustina di plastica, "si sa mai che si sciupi"! niente video nemmeno a sto giro, su espressa richiesta della band. Peccato, ma eseguo le loro volontà.

HELLOWEEN: in arrivo il cd per i 25 anni di carriera, con canzoni ri-registrate e piene di special guests

Tantissime zucche, di forma diversa, sovrastate da una elegantissima dark lady: è questa la copertina di Unarmed - Best Of 25th Anniversary, il nuovo album degli Helloween in uscita il 29 Gennaio 2010 (anticipato al 16 Dicembre 2009 in Giappone). Il cd sarà un best-of un po' particolare, in quanto conterrà i brani preferiti scelti dalla band, ri-arrangiati e ri-registrati con le nuove tecnologie. Questo vuole anche dire che Andi Deris darà nuova voce ai brani di Kai Hansen e Michael Kiske - se questa sia una cosa blasfema lo decideranno i fan, o i detrattori, dell'attuale cantante della band tedesca. Ci saranno anche molti ospiti illustri, compresa l'orchesta sinfonica di Praga, forte di 70 elementi, a dare spessore alla Keeper Trilogy, un medley di 17 minuti che comprende le canzoni 'Halloween', 'Keeper Of The Seven Keys' e 'The King for A 1000 Years'.

Classifica vendite cd in Italia: il metal cala, e sparisce dalla circolazione...

Scendono, scendono, scendono tutti, tranne Michael Bublè arrivato in vetta alla classifica di vendite di cd in Italia per questa settimana. Dispiace vedere però che i Rammstein, a due settimane dal debutto di Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da, passino già dal 14esimo al 23esimo posto. I Kiss di Sonic Boom cadono dal 22esimo al 30esimo, dopodichè per quel che riguarda il rock e/o il metal, non ci sono più avvistamenti: spariti in poco tempo Megadeth, Paradise Lost, Ac/Dc... attendiamo tempi migliori, chissà se gli Slayer, usciti ieri con World Painted Blood, possano aspirare a qualche posizione alta, almeno al debutto...

SONATA ARCTICA: concerto spostato al più capiente Palasharp

Complimenti ai Sonata Arctica, il cui concerto di Milano del prossimo 25 Novembre è stato spostato dal club Alcatraz al ben più capiente Palasharp di Via Sant'Elia 33, vista la gran richiesta di biglietti da parte dei fans. SYSTEM OF A DOWN: tre membri tornano a suonare insieme

Non è ancora aria di reunion, ma magari qualche prova tecnica la si sta facendo. Fattostà che lo scorso 31 Ottobre tre membri su quattro dei System Of A Down hanno suonato insieme in occasione dello Shavoween, la festa di Halloween organizzata da Shavo, e durante il breve set hanno eseguito anche Suite-Pee dei SOAD e The Say degli Scars On Broadway.
Tutto molto intrigante, se non fosse che il quarto membro mancante, fosse Serj Tankian, la voce del gruppo, che ancora non ha risolto i suoi problemi con Daron Malakian, chitarrista che in questa occasione ha anche prestato la propia voce alla band. Senza Serj e Daron, non può essere reunion...
Va anche detto che, a quanto pare, questa rimpatriata sembrerebbe essere una "one night only" per festeggiare Halloween, ma sappiamo che da cosa nasce spesso cosa...

HULK HOGAN avrebbe cercato di entrare nei METALLICA...

In 365 giorni, di notizie ne vengono battute tantissime, e capita che alcune di queste si rivelino infondate o assurde, ma questa è automaticamente la cazzata dell'anno: in una recente conferenza stampa, il lottatore di wrestling Hulk Hogan ha rivelato di aver cercato di entrare nei Metallica come bassista, nel periodo successivo all'uscita di Jason Newsted dal gruppo. L'ho scritto tutto in grassetto per far comprendere in pieno la follia di questa dichiarazione. Ma non basta: Hulk avrebbe anche cercato di entrare, sempre come bassista, nei Rolling Stones! Boooom!

TRANSATLANTIC: Musica Metal intervista Pete Trewavas - Novembre 2009

Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings) e Neal Morse (ex-Spock's Beard): quando quattro pezzi grossi del progressive-metal come questi si riuniscono con il nome Transatlantic, nasce sempre qualcosa che manda in estasi gli appassionati del genere. I primi due album della band, usciti nel 2000 e 2001, sono considerati capolavori del genere, prima che il cantante Neal Morse cadesse in crisi mistica e decidesse di abbandonare il progetto (e tutto il mondo musicale). Ma a quanto pare Dio ha suggerito a Neal di tornare a incidere un nuovo cd, e The Whirlwind è il prodotto di questa ispirazione, mediata dagli altri tre musicisti. Settantasette minuti di musica avvolgente, della cui genesi andiamo a parlare con Pete Trewavas, bassista e compositore della band, raggiunto telefonicamente per Musica Metal. CLAIRVOYANTS: galleria fotografica dal concerto a Trezzo D'Adda - 25.10.2009

I Gotthard hanno scelto per il loro tour italiano band di supporto nostrane: a Milano hanno avuto l'onore di aprire le danze i Clairvoyants, nati come cover band degli Iron Maiden e arrivati al debutto discografico lo scorso Gennaio con Word To The Wise (maggiori informazioni cliccando qui). La scaletta di questo concerto pesca completamente dalle nuove canzoni, quindi, senza cedere alla tentazione di inserire una cover dei Maiden: la band ne esce così rafforzata, pronta a camminare sulle proprie gambe, grazie a delle buone composizioni power e un'ottima tenuta di palco.
Strano, però, che il volantino del Live Club annunci per il 28 novembre proprio i Clairvoyants per una "Gods Of Metal Tribute Night" (insieme a Eicidici per AC/DC e Muppet Suicide per Guns N'Roses) - ma siamo in Italia e, si sa, certe cose bisogna farle per campare...

OPETH: foto, video e setlist dal concerto a Milano - 26.10.2009

Commentare un concerto degli Opeth, soprattutto come band di supporto, non è facile: ancora oggi non è questione semplice catalogare la loro musica, e se "compressi" con una setlist da sei pezzi in meno di un'ora, le loro qualità brilleranno per chi già li ama, e lasceranno indifferenti gli altri. La band svedese rimane sempre in bilico fra progressive "colto", e una pesantezza in stile death che lascia stupiti, la setlist proposta al progressive nation lascia stupiti per un inizio e una fine "lenti", per poi dar vita a una setlist piuttosto movimentata, e una Leper Affinity applauditissima. Ripostare le battute di Mikael è difficile, ne spara a raffica fra un brano e l'altro nonostante il pubblico italiano ne capisca una su dieci, ma lui va avanti a proporre atti di sesso orale, o con l'eccessiva umiltà nel definire la sua band "solo fortunata" se ha suonato al Progressive Nation...

METALLICA sul palco con Ozzy Osbourne, Lou Reed e Ray Davies!

E' stato un evento piuttosto epico quello tenutosi venerdì 30 ottobre al madison Square Garden di New York: per festeggiare i 25 anni della Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, un gruppo di musicisti ha suonato concerti pieni di ospiti. D'accordo, ci sono stati set di gruppi come U2 (featuring Mick jagger!), Aretha Franklin, Jerry Lee Lewis, ma per gli amanti della sonorità pesanti, ci sono stati i Metallica, freschi freschi di inserimento nella Hall Of Fame proprio quest'anno. Insieme ai Four Horsemen, qualche ospite di riguardo: Ozzy Osbourne, Lou Reed, Ray Davies!

WASP: per motivi religiosi, ai concerti niente più sangue nè Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)

Sconvolgenti e deludenti le dichiarazioni rese da Blackie Lawless al sito norvegese FVN.no: il cantante dei W.A.S.P. è l'ennesimo musicista americano a mettere la propria (nuova) fede religiosa al di sopra della musica, azzoppando la sua band. Si è scoperto, così, che nel nuovo tour non ci saranno spargimenti di sangue, teste di maiale mozzate e cose simili, perchè "erano intese come arte ma la gente li vedeva solamente come intrattenimento", e soprattutto la canzone-simbolo dei WASP, Animal - Fuck Like A Beast, non verrà mai più eseguita perchè va contro i principi religiosi di Blackie, e non vuole che i ragazzini di oggi la sentano. Infine, il nuovo album della band, uscito (in sordina) a metà ottobre e intitolato Babylon, è un concept sulle storie della Bibbia.
WASP: da We Are Sexual Perverts a We Are Seriously Pretentious...

UNEXPECT: foto e video dal concerto a Milano - 26.10.2009

Unexpect, di nome e di fatto: si sa che gli opener di un mini-festival son sempre più o meno gli ultimi arrivati o amici di amici di amici, ma se come in questo caso, gli "amici" si chiamano Mike Portnoy, si può sperare che a livello musicale la band se la cavi bene. E direi che in effetti il gruppo ha affascinato gran parte della gente presente (il Forum era pieno a metà quando hanno iniziato, molti erano ancora in fila ai cancelli o bloccati in tangenziale!). E non si è rimasti solamente affascinati da Loreilindel, la cantante, ma dalla proposta musicale complessa, capace di passare dall'avant-garde metal al folk (grazie alla presenza di un violinista), il tutto condito da un look in stile cyber/industrial. Complessa, quindi, l'esecuzione del gruppo canadese, meritevole di ascolti più attenti su cd, dove le tre voci trovano sicuramente più spazio dinamico, e si può cercare di capire a fondo cosa esattamente stiano suonando!

Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da era un titolo metal attesissimo, avevo pensato che alla sua uscita sarebbe arrivato nella top ten della classifica di vendite italiane, ma invece i Rammstein si piazzano in quattordicesima posizione a una settimana dall'uscita del cd. Poco sopra a Rammstein, si assiste al crollo dei Tokio Hotel, che passano dal quarto al dodicesimo posto: da sotto di loro, Till Lindeman adocchia Bill Kaulitz e sorride satanico pensando al gruppo di Facebook Diamo i Tokio Hotel in pasto ai Rammstein, che in pochi giorni ha raccolto 2.700 iscritti...

BIGELF: foto e video dal concerto a Milano - 26.10.2009

Virtualmente sconosciuti qui in Italia, i losangelini Bigelf hanno trovato la gallina dalle uova d'oro, partecipando a questo Progressive Nation 2009 (apparentemente invitati da Mike Portnoy in persona): tutti gli spettatori di Milano si sono dimosrati molto colpiti dalla loro performance, e dopo il concerto i loro cd sono andati a ruba. Merito di una proposta musicale molto accattivante (anche se non proprio "prog", più vicina ad uno stoner-psichedelico), di un look molto particolare (fricchettoni anni 60 FTW!), e della spinta di Portnoy, che appare sul palco per suonare un brano assieme alla band: se già prima i Bigelf stavano conquistando i cuori del pubblico, la comparsata del batterista dei Dream Theater ha fatto concludere il set fra lunghi applausi e urla del nome della band, come potete vedere nel video qui sotto.
Sono in giro da diciotto anni (!!!), discograficamente attivi da dodici, ma adesso il futuro sembra assolutamente radioso, per i Bigelf.

AMBERIAN DAWN: foto e setlist dal concerto di Milano - 27.10.2009

Come cambiano le cose, in un anno: il Novembre scorso i finlandesi Amberian Dawn arrivavano a Milano come supporto degli Epica, e la loro performance era definita "interessante, ma con evidente poca dimestichezza con la dimensione live della musica (cliccate qui per la recensione dello show e le foto).
Oggi il gruppo torna, sempre di supporto agli Epica, ma forte di un nuovo cd (The Clouds Of Northland Thunder) e di un anno di esperienza sui palchi di tutta Europa. La differenza si vede e si sente: l'ottima cantante Heidi Parviainen si muove con scioltezza e spara tutte le "pose" giuste per una cantante in un gruppo metal, la band è molto compatta ala sue spalle, e le nuove canzoni, su cui si basa la maggior parte della setlist, rendono lo show molto coinvolgente. Promossi a pieni voti, stavolta!

EPICA: foto e setlist dal concerto di Milano - 27.10.2009

Ormai è chiaro, se gli Epica amano l'Italia, è chiaro che l'Italia ama gli Epica. L'area del palco B dell'Alcatraz era pieno quasi fino alla capienza per il nuovo concerto della band olandese, a pochi mesi dall'esibizione al Gods Of Metal. Il gruppo è qui per presentare il nuovo cd, Deisgn Your Universe, e indubbiamente la vena "pesante" ascoltata su cd viene portata avanti anche in concerto, visto che la scaletta pesca alcuni fra i brani più pesanti della discografia degli Epica. Mark Jansen forse fa meno growling che in passato, ma in compenso Simone Simons dimostra ancora una volta una proprietà vocale veramente fenomenale. Se la qualità dei concerti rimane sempre questa, gli Epica sono i benvenuti a suonare in Italia anche un paio di volte al mese... unica pecca: la durata sempre troppo ridotta degli show!
NB: come richiesto dalla band, questa volta non ho fatto nessun video al concerto, sorry!

DREAM THEATER: foto, video e setlist dal concerto a Milano - 26.10.2009

D'accordo, forse hanno suonato un po' troppo poco (90 minuti sono un insulto al progressive!!!), e forse qualcuno si aspettava che, dato il decennale perfetto (26.10.1999) dall'uscita di Scenes From A Memory, ci fosse qualche celebrazione in stile Gods Of Metal 2007 / Images And Words. Insomma, le aspettative per un concerto dei Dream Theater sono sempre altissime, e a leggere dai primi commenti, tutti avrebbero gradito il doppio della durata dello show, ma tutti sono concordi nel dire che il poco tempo a disposizione, l'hanno sfruttato alla grande, con una setlist azzeccata, partita col botto con una canzone nuova ma di grande impatto live, A Nightmare to Remember, veramente epica dal vivo. Band in gran forma, così come le corde vocali di James LaBrie, e divertimento totale per Jordan Rudess, che ha inserito le note di O mia bela madunina nel mezzo del suo assolo di tastiere, facendo esplodere la folla. Ottimo anche l'impianto scenico alle spalle dei musicisti, con megaschermi azzeccati fino al finale "esplosivo". Niente da eccepire, il Progressive Nation 2009 si è chiuso nel migliore dei modi, a Milano...

PROGRESSIVE NATION 2009: le prime foto di Dream Theater, Opeth, Bigelf e Unexpect a Milano - 26.10.2009

Mentre tutta Italia era presissima con la prima puntata del Grande Fratello 10, le persone sane di mente e con ottimi gusti musicali erano impegnate al Forum D'Assago con la prima tappa del Progressive Nation Tour. E come non rimanere rapiti dalle quattro ore di show offerte dai quattro gruppi? Le sorprese per i "novizi" del rogressive nation sono stati proprio i primi due gruppi, con il cyber-folk-progressive degli Unexpect a scaldare il pubblico in attesa da ore fuori dai cancelli, e la psichedelic-prog dei Bigelf a incantare tutti, con cameo finale di Mike Portnoy che suona un pezzo con la band che ha lui stesso invitato a far parte del tour. Gli Opeth, come sempre, hanno diviso il pubblico fra chi li ama alla follia, e chi non li sopporta. C'è da dire che la band ha iniziato lenta e finito lenta, ma nel mezzo il signor Åkerfeldt ha sfoggiato la sua classica versatilità di voce, passando senza problemi al growling le (poche) volte che era richiesto, e suonando "alto" quando serviva. Non sono mancate le sue battute, principalmente il modo in cui ha svegliato il silenzioso pubblico milanese: "Oh, al mio tre dite tutti COCK, ok?" E il pubblico, giù a inneggiare al cazzo...!
Infine, gli esplosivi Dream Theater, che ancora riescono a piazzare solo 6-7 brani in scaletta, costringendosi in set da meno di due ore, per il disappunto di molti fan. Ottima la scenografia, in forma come sempre la band, Portnoy sempre esaltatissimo dietro la batteria. Chicca delle chicche, una versione di Jordan Rudess di O Mia Bela Madunina
, per la gioia del pubblico milanese!

AC/DC annunciati a Torino per il 2010: TUTTA UNA BUFALA

L'avevo detto, che c'era da andarci coi piedi di piombo, visto che i quotidiani non sono fonti affidabili per le notizie in anteprima su concerti "epocali". Chi si ricorda dei Metallica a Padova annunciati a casaccio dal Corriere Della Sera, lo scorso Gennaio? Beh, oggi alla lista di giornali che non controllano le fonti per le notizie sugli spettacoli, si aggiunge pure La Stampa: il doppio concerto degli AC/DC a Torino annunciato dal quotidiano, si è rivelato una bufala. Non ho idea se l'errore sia stato commesso dall'assessore agli spettacoli della città di Torino, o dal giornalista che si è fatto prendere la mano, o cosa, fattostà che la Barley Arts, che aveva portato gli Ac/Dc in Italia lo scorso Marzo, ha appena pubblicato sul suo sito una secca smentita, che potete leggere qui di seguito. Non è detto che la band non venga in Italia l'anno prossimo (possiamo sempre sperarci!), ma semplicemente date e location non saranno quelle.

Banda larga: il governo congela 800 milioni - Il Sole 24 ORE.

Gli 800 milioni del piano Romani-Brunetta per il superamento del «digital divide» e che da tempo attendono di essere sbloccati dal Cipe sono stati sostanzialmente congelati in attesa della fine della crisi, «perché il governo ha cambiato l'ordine delle priorità». Lo ha spiegato il sottosegretario alla presidenza del Consiglio Gianni Letta... il governo «ha voluto fare una riflessione in funzione della diversa scala di priorità. Abbiamo dovuto riconsiderare le cose per dare la precedenza a questioni come gli ammortizzatori sociali», perché «l'occupazione è la nostra principale preoccupazione». I fondi, ha comunque sottolineato Letta, «stanno lì, non sono stati spesi nè sciupati: una volta usciti dalla crisi si potrà riprendere l'ordine della priorità, e la prima sarà la banda larga».

li abbiamo usati per gli amortizzatori sociali o non sono stati spesi ? mi sembra una contraddizione in termini.

Prima si divide, poi si costruisce. L'occupazione o gli occupati ? L'ordine dei fattori altera il prodotto.

eppure ci sono migliaia di persone che dipendono da TLC e indotto. non e' meglio prospettare una occupazione che pensare ai sussidi ?

continuo a pensare che il modello di sviluppo di riferimento siano gli anni 60. la filiera del mattone è ben chiara, la filiera dell'ICT è sconosciuta, anche se un addetto nell'ICT produce un PIL 60% maggiore di un addetto in altro settore (in UK dove lo hanno misurato con il rapporto Digital Britain).

beninteso, non che gli 800M previsti e non ancora erogati già dal Ministro Gentiloni e poi dall'On Romani, siano una panacea, tantopiu' che, senza una ristrutturazione del mercato verso One Network (peraltro sostenuta anche da Maurizio Dècina al convegno dell'AICT) sulle reti in fibra, rischiano di essere un cialdino a Telecom Italia.

devo dire che nello stesso convegno AICT ero stato, ahinoi, profeta di sventura.

The Ugliness of Privacy Notices

I have ranted once or twice before about the regulatory requirement that Google—a search engine—post a link to a privacy notice on its home page.

Not all computers all places may see it, but Google appears to be experimenting with a bit of javascript that leaves the page blank but for the Google image and the search field until you roll your cursor over it. But they’re leaving the privacy notice (and a copyright notice) there, probably for fear that privacy advocates will yelp about a modern-day paperwork violation.

This provides an opportunity to see the difference between a world with privacy notice regulation and one without. One is cluttered and overlawyered. The other is pure and clean and fresh.

Take a look for yourself. Which do you prefer?

I think the answer is obvious. The only difference, mind you, is aesthetic. If Google were permitted to have a truly good looking Web site, users’ privacy would be no worse off for it because they don’t read privacy notices.

Questa mattina ho ricevuto una lettera da Telecom Italia in cui mi avvisavano di aver avviato le pratiche per inserire la fibra ottica dentro le verticali del palazzo, in Roma, zona Prati.

...Del resto il tenore della lettera lascia già intendere che le canaline del palazzo sono viste sotto il profilo giuridico, come un diritto di proprietà che Telecom avoca a se stessa, non si capisce bene su quali basi normative.

Fossati (con Asati) contro la cessione di Hansenet

Dice Il Sole 24 Ore:

secondo i Fossati, nel caso di Hansenet, di cui Telefonica sta «negoziando l'acquisizione per un valore di 850 milioni di euro, a un multiplo leggermente superiore a tre volte l'Ebitda »..«A nostro avviso –sostiene la Findim – Hansenet non può e non deve essere ceduta a un valore inferiore a 1,5 miliardi». Un prezzo che, sottolinea la missiva, sarebbe pari a circa 6 volte l'Ebitda e risulterebbe solo di poco superiore al valore di libro di 1,45 miliardi. «Conseguentemente – è l'appello al cda –l'eventuale cessione di Hansenet deve essere da voi consiglieri attentamente analizzata in quanto trattasi di delicata cessione a parte correlata». L'alternativa,spiegano fonti vicine a Findim, potrebbe essere per esempio la fusione di Hansenet con Versatel.

Scrive poi l'Asati:

"Sembrerebbe che il contratto stilato per l'eventuale cessione della società a Telefonica preveda che qualora, successivamente alla vendita, si verificasse una riduzione del valore concordato, Telefonica avrebbe il diritto di sottrarre dal prezzo pattuito la differenza di valore
...Avendo HanseNet un valore di libro di 1,45 miliardi di euro e leggendo dalla stampa valori di cessione concordati non superiori ai 900 milioni di euro, ci chiediamo: Chi verra' penalizzato per questa differenza? Gli azionisti o l'intero consiglio di amministrazione?"

Difficile esprimere un parere; a prima vista ha ragione Fossati, ma bosgna anche considerare che i ricavi di Hansenet sono *in calo* e l'ebitda è sostanzialmente stazionario, a naso, direi probabilmente condizionato che i costi saranno stati ridotti in ottica di cessione.

ISPs around the world may be forced to snoop on their subscribers and cut them off if they are found to have shared copyright-protected music on the Internet, under an international agreement being promoted by the U.S.
... The countries are due to discuss the ACTA at a meeting in South Korea on Wednesday, focusing specifically on the issue of Internet piracy. The U.S. has drafted the text of the chapter on the Internet. In a summary of the U.S.'s position shared orally with trade officials at the European Commission in September, signatories of the accord must "provide for third-party liability." The Commission informed all 27 countries in the E.U. of the U.S. position in a memo seen by IDG News service. Under existing laws in the U.S., the E.U. and elsewhere, ISPs are granted immunity from prosecution for illegal activities carried out by subscribers across their networks. This new global trade agreement appears to contradict the legal status quo, said Michael Geist, a law professor at Ottawa University, Canada. This provision would mean that every country that signs up to ACTA must allow content owners such as record companies and Hollywood studios to sue ISPs for failing to stop their subscribers from illegally sharing copyright-protected material such as music and movies.

Windows XP: disabilitare il firewall via batch

Post veloce veloce stile promemoria e utilità per qualche collega in difficoltà. Capita sporadicamente di trovare qualche utente che ha a disposizione un PC portatile, solitamente utilizzato per girare in lungo e largo per le varie sedi del -rispettivamente- mio cliente e quindi suo datore di lavoro. Quel PC non è in dominio e l’utenza utilizzata è anche amministratore della macchina locale. Un unico problema: ignoranza totale dall’altro lato della cornetta (e non lo dico in modo dispregiativo una volta tanto) ed il firewall di Windows XP attivo!

Il risultato è presto detto: spiegare all’utente i passaggi per andare a togliere il firewall diventa una mission impossible, in compenso sa usare benissimo la posta elettronica e sa fare un maledetto doppio clic. Ecco quindi come aggirare l’ostacolo con eleganza e tanta prepotenza sui servizi di Windows!

Il batch qui di seguito non fa altro che disattivare i servizi necessari al funzionamento del firewall, creare una chiave di registro che blocchi gli aggiornamenti di sistema (che potrebbero far riattivare il software) e aggiungere le informazioni automaticamente.

Testato su un Windows XP Sp2 altrui, funzionante al secondo colpo dopo una piccola correzione!

Se il batch può essere mandato via posta elettronica basterà chiedere all’utente di salvarlo sul Desktop e fare doppio clic. In 5 secondi netti (salvo complicazioni) il PC sarà raggiungibile remotamente così da poter operare in assistenza tramite VNC o Remote Desktop.

Attenzione a chi possiede Sophos o antivirus di pari valore: lo script viene visto come potenzialmente pericoloso e distrutto senza pensarci su troppo, son soddisfazioni

Mi fa strano dirvelo, eppure ci provo. Raccogliete gli indizi per capire di cosa si tratta (basterebbe dare una occhiata all’immagine qui di seguito, ma tant’è):

Si tratta sempre di roba personale, nulla da dire, qui ci scrivo di tutto … è vero. C’è un però: mi piacerebbe tenere quanto più separato possibile tecnologia, cazzate e vita quotidiana “standard” dall’organizzazione di un evento così importante, dai consigli per mettere tutto in piedi nel miglior modo possibile e per scambiare opinioni con chi l’ha già fatto o con chi lo farà. Un luogo quasi serio (attenzione al quasi) dove pubblicare riflessioni e qualsiasi altra cosa legata al giorno che tutti spacciano per “il più bello della vita“: prima, durante, dopo.

Il fatto che il sottoscritto sia ormai passato al “lato oscuro della forza” da qualche anno lo sanno proprio tutti. Sapete altrettanto bene che “squadra che vince non si cambia” … per questo motivo sono ancora qui a parlarvi del titolo di calcio Konami ad un anno di distanza dall’ultima recensione.

Consegnato con un giorno di anticipo rispetto al dovuto (uscita prevista 22 ottobre, consegnato nelle mie mani con tanto di pallone da calcio regolare in regalo il 21) è costato tanto quanto l’anno scorso: 39 euro e 90 centesimi (si, la solita presa per i fondelli dei 10 centesimi di resto).

Nonostante quest’anno sia stata presentata un’ottima realizzazione da parte di EA Sports con il suo Fifa 10 pressoché irraggiungibile su console (determinato dai numerosi pareri sul web, tra gli amici e da una veloce prova su strada del sottoscritto), Pro Evolution Soccer continua ad essere la migliore scelta almeno su Personal Computer.

Come 365 giorni fa qui si continua a giocare con una scheda grafica tutto sommato accettabile (la mia GeForce 8600GT da 256 MB dedicati) e Windows 7 del quale presto vi parlerò, da poco sovrano della mia macchina casalinga. Tutto è cominciato da “quel twit” e da quella fotografia:

E’ gradita la conferma …

Licenze nuovamente concesse, continuano fortunatamente ad aumentare anno dopo anno, riusciremo quindi a soddisfare il fabbisogno quotidiano di far bene virtualmente in UEFA Champions League e nella nuova UEFA Europa League, accompagnati chiaramente dalla nostra squadra del cuore.

Sono stati licenziati 15 stadi, ne rimangono fuori 6. Tra questi ultimi compare anche il Konami Stadium, ormai intramontabile

Squadre & Calcio Mercato

Contrariamente all’anno scorso sembra che tutte le mosse di calcio mercato siano state incluse nel titolo prima della sua pubblicazione e della comparsa sugli scaffali. E’ comunque importante ricordare che scambi e acquisti sono ancora possibili da qui fino a novembre 2010, ciò vorrà dire che Konami (come sempre) rilascerà svariate patch nei prossimi mesi, la prima delle quali già disponibile dal 22 ottobre scorso (scaricabile direttamente da qui). Perché quindi non tenere d’occhio il blog italiano non ufficiale dedicato al gioco, rinnovatosi con l’occasione?

GamePlay

Odio questi rallentamenti dei giocatori introdotti nella release 2010 ma a mente fredda mi rendo conto che sono diventati più umani. Nessun cambio di direzione immediato alla “Flash Gordon“. Ci vuole un attimo più di attenzione, di strategia, di passaggi ben mirati ad un compagno di squadra che possa aiutarci ad arrivare verso la porta avversaria. Si ottiene maggiore soddisfazione e gioco di squadra, male non fa certamente. Nuovi trucchi, nuovi modi di dribblare, più attenzione alla cura dei dettagli dentro e fuori il campo.

Valori di stanchezza, infortuni e umore del giocatore sono rimasti praticamente invariati.

Decisamente migliorata l’intelligenza artificiale dei nostri avversari durante le partite giocate contro il PC, niente a che fare con gli episodi precedenti dove era tutto sommato semplice selezionare un “eroe” da mandare in avanscoperta per bucare la difesa e tentare di andare in porta compiendo la “mission possible“. Lo stesso “ritardo” nell’esecuzione di un comando precedentemente imposto da tastiera o da gamepad ad un nostro giocatore, fa si che l’esperienza diventi più realistica e ci sia la concreta possibilità di essere fermati da un giocatore “nemico” per un soffio

Attenzione a calci piazzati e calci di rigore, sono stati ritoccati tutti i valori di caricamento del tiro. Troppa potenza? La palla viene sparata in orbita, com’è giusto che sia!

Telecronaca

Confermata la coppia Pierluigi Pardo e Josè Altafini nonostante quest’ultimo possa star simpatico come un pugno nello stomaco alle 7 di mattina, proprio mentre stiamo riaprendo gli occhi dopo una buona dormita. Durante le prime partite (ho portato già a termine la UEFA Champions League, un paio di esibizioni e le prime due partite del campionato italiano tutt’ora in corso) ho potuto notare diversi errori sul risultato della partita (esempio: sul 4-0 veniva dichiarato uno “splendido 2-0 della squadra!”), lo stesso vale per calci di punizione passati come calci di rigore e ammonizioni inesistenti. Un numero certamente superiore alla prima esperienza di gioco con PES 2009, si spera quindi in una patch …

In conclusione

Un titolo da avere, vale come sempre il denaro speso. Il difetto è sempre lo stesso: occhio a chiudervi dentro casa e organizzare tornei con i colleghi di lavoro (tanto per dire: il prossimo è previsto per il 4 novembre, me medesimo e soci d’ufficio), potreste ritrovarvi senza moglie / fidanzata senza neanche accorgervene!

Cinema: Parnassus – L’uomo che voleva ingannare il diavolo

Sono monotematico ultimamente lo so. Poco tempo, diverso di questo dedicato ad impegni personali per il futuro (presto ve ne parlerò) ed il restante al lavoro. Sto anche dedicandomi a progetti nuovi in fase di lancio, uno dei quali presentato giusto ieri, in regia e non in redazione una volta tanto

Andiamo però al succo del post, dedicato stavolta al film “Parnassus – L’uomo che voleva ingannare il diavolo“, distribuzione MovieMax diretta da Terry Gilliam, uscito nelle sale italiane il 23 ottobre scorso. Sono andato a vederlo 24 ore dopo, ultimo spettacolo alla multisala di Ravenna, insieme agli amici.

Contrariamente a tante recensioni che ho letto online posso esprimere un giudizio complessivo con una sola parola: pessimo. Una grande interpretazione di Ledger, nulla da dire, lo stesso vale per i compari di bevuta che si sono alternati durante la proiezione (Colin Farrell, Jude Law & Johnny Depp) senza però entusiasmare nessuno. La sala era sufficientemente piena nonostante l’ora (mezzanotte e mezza l’inizio dello spettacolo). Sarà stata -appunto- l’ora tarda, però nessun altro dentro quel cinema è uscito particolarmente soddisfatto, posso assicurarvelo.

Cosa aspettarsi da Parnassus? Una favola, magari pazza, magari fatta da attori davvero bravi, una storia non esattamente lineare, un attimo insopportabile per alcuni versi, probabilmente durante la stesura della sceneggiatura c’è scappato lo spinello

Sconsiglio la visione cinematografica, rischiereste di rimanere particolarmente delusi per aver voluto investire in malo modo 7 euro, magari vale la pena attendere il DVD o addirittura la messa in onda sulle televisioni nazionali.

Facebook, a causa dei forti rallentamenti dei server che ci sono stati in questi giorni, sta chiudendo molti account. Clikka qui per evitare la disattivazione del tuo. XYZ l’ha già fatto!

Non volevo scriverci un post apposito, ma viste quante sono gli utenti che si stanno iscrivendo a questa nuova applicazione che è una vera e propria BUFALA, mi sembra sia il caso di farlo: figuratevi se, un social network che fa di tutto per attrarre utenti, poi, di punto in bianco, ne elimina alcuni perchè ci sono stati rallentamenti del server!

Mi raccomando, NON ISCRIVETEVI all’applicazione Check Active User e fate notare ai vostri amici che è solo una BUFALA!

Dalla sera di venerdì 4 settembre (ieri) sull'accesso GARR del CNR di Pisa
il traffico IPv6 supera quello IPv4 (circa 20 Mbps contro circa 15 Mbps). Di
chi è il merito? Di BitTorrent, per il quale facciamo il rate limit in IPv4
ma non in IPv6. Quasi tutti i partner esterni delle nostre comunicazioni BitTorrent attive
sono indirizzi Teredo (prefisso 2001:0000::/32). Ciò significa che si tratta
per lo più di PC collegati nativamente in IPv4 che, grazie alla tecnologia
Teredo, sono in grado di aprire automaticamente tunnel IPv6 su IPv4, anche
ad insaputa del proprietario. Sui sistemi Windows l'apertura automatica dei
tunnel Teredo è stata introdotta con Windows Vista; prima (per esempio con
Windows XP) occorreva qualche comando manuale per abilitare la funzionalità. --

L’Open Source entra nell’E-Learning: le slides della mia presentazione al LinuxDay2009

In occasione del Linux Day 2009, ho tenuto una piccola conferenza su come è possibile sviluppare una piattaforma di E-Learning con il solo utilizzo di software Open Source, analizzando il caso pratico dell’Università degli Studi di Teramo.

Per e-learning si intende la possibilità di imparare sfruttando la rete internet e la diffusione di informazioni a distanza: questo rappresenta una modalità di diffusione delle conoscenze sempre più riconosciuta come un efficace elemento integrativo della tradizionale didattica e formazione frontale.

L’e-learning non è comunque limitato alla formazione scolastica, essendo rivolto anche a utenti adulti, insegnanti, ecc. ed anche nella formazione aziendale, specialmente per le organizzazioni con una pluralità di sedi.

Say Goodbye to Voicemail, Hello To Ribbit Mobile (500 Invites)

First, there was Google Voice. And all was good, and not so good. But it showed that there is a better way to manage voicemails than to listen to 15 in a row just to get to the one you care about.

Now, there is an alternative to Google Voice called Ribbit Mobile. And it too is very good. Ribbit Mobile is in private beta, but the first 500 people to sign up with the invite code “techcrunch” will jump to the front of the line.

Ribbit Mobile starts out by taking over your cell phone’s voicemail. You give it permission to do this by entering some codes it presents to you during the sign-up process. So Ribbit Mobile lets you use your existing number, something Google Voice also recently added as an option. Once you set up your voicemail, and record a new greeting message, you can get started.

All voicemails will now get routed to Ribbit Mobile and stored there. Every time you get a voicemail, it appears in your Ribbit inbox, where it can be played on your computer. It is also transcribed (using Phonetag/Simulscribe’s speech-to-text engine). And it is pretty accurate. It was even able to understand and transcribe a message left by my three-year-old son. Every transcribed voicemail also gets sent to you as an email.

So there is really no need to listen to a voicemail again. But you can retrieve them the normal way, by calling an assigned number you can save to your phone. The one drawback I found is that I no longer see the notification on my phone showing how many voicemails I have.

Ribbit also lets you route calls to any number, including Skype and Ribbit’s own Java phone which rings in your browser so you can take calls on your computer. It does not yet, however, let you assign different actions to different callers (put my wife through to my cell, put anyone not in my contacts through to voicemail).

When you are online, you can also sign into various social networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr) and see recent Tweets, status messages, and photos from the person who is calling. It’s very Xobni-like in that way.

Soon there will be an iPhone app, and the ability to send “shouts” to Ribbit Mobile members. A shout is a voicemail that doesn’t actually ring the person’s phone, it just goes straight to voicemail, where it is then transcribed and sent along as a regular text message. Why talk, when you can shout?

Ribbit Mobile will launch with a free basic package, and then start charging between $10 and $30 a month for more services, such as human transcription. Ribbit was acquired by British Telecom last year for $105 million, so it’s not going anywhere.

One day, we’ll get a service like Ribbit Mobile or Google Voice that actually is built into our phones.

Search Til You Drop: Google Launches Hosted Commerce Search For Retailers

Searching retail sites can be frustrating at times. While many retailers try to present product search in a visually appealing way, search can often be slow or difficult to refine. Tonight, Google is making a huge play in retail space with the launch of Commerce Search, a hosted enterprise search product to power online retail stores and e-commerce websites.

Google offers a general hosted search product that is used by organizations that want to add customized Google search functionality to their websites. Google is now entering the vertical space, by the first tailor-made enterprise product, with retail optimized space. There are four key components to thew new search offering for retailers:

Speed: Google promises “ultra-fast speed and accuracy” by leveraging Google’s search technology to provide sub-second response time to customer searches on retail sites. Commerce Search also uses a proprietary ranking technology to analyze the products in each data feed and serve the most relevant match. Google says that faster search speed will help increase conversions to buy products, as customers can quickly find specific products without having to navigate complex search interfaces.

E-commerce-Specific Search: Google Commerce offers a variety of features that are optimized for retail and product search, such as parametric search, sorting of results, spell checker, stemming, and synonym suggestion, which in some way or another let users to refine and target their searches. I’m told hosted search uses several proprietary signals to determine the ranking of search result. Commerce also offers a compelling product promotions features, that lets retailers fine-tune search results to push promoted products to the top of results. The search interface allows for retailers to specifically label products as promoted.

One of my bones to pick with Google Commerce was that it’s interface may be to simple for retail sites like Saks, Bloomingdales or others who tend to display products in a more visually appealing way. Presentation, whether it be real-store or online, matters. But Nitin Mangtani, Lead Product Manager for Google Enterprise Search, told me that the Google Commerce Search API allows retailers to fully customize the search experience on their website and add all the bells and whistles they need to make the interface match the rest of their site. And, retailers using Commerce don’t need to show the Google logo on the search site.

Scalability: Because Commerce Search is hosted by Google and based in the cloud, Google says it’s easily scalable to absorb additional traction on the site. For example, says Mangtani, during the holiday season, retailers will most probably experience high traffic on search. Google will ensure that retailers can manage the boost in traffic and scale the search application. And Mangtani adds that once all product data is incorporated, search can be deployed on any e-commerce site fairly quickly.

Leveraging Other Google Products: Google promises integration with other Google products like Google Analytics and Google Product Search. Using Commerce, retailers can measure clicks, conversion rates, number of transactions, average order value and other data via Google Analytics. And e-commerce vendors can provide a single feed of products and catelogue items that will power Commerce and indexing of their products on Google Product Search. Product Search (formerly Froogle) was blends shopping results with Google search.

Google didn’t release too many details on its pricing mode for Commerce Search, but a spokeswoman told me that the product will start at $50,000 per year. Beyond that, pricing will be based on the number of products (SKUs) in the customer’s database and the number of search queries entered on their site each year. This pricing isn’t cheap so obviously this appeals to bigger retailers and e-commerce shops. Google has already partnered with Birkenstock USA to power search, which looks mediocre. It was a little simple for my taste and it lacked a visible search bar but I’m really interested to see what can be done with Commerce for more embellished e-commerce sites. Google Commerce will now compete with the likes of Omniture, Endeca, and others.

Google is playing into “conversion rates” when advertising the product for retailers, saying that while the average online retailer conversion rate is just three percent, it could be five to ten times higher with a powerful search technology. With Commerce, Google is making an aggressive move in the retail space. Google Product hasn’t really taken off, but Commerce could and could effect the use of Google Product as well (and maybe Google Checkout?). Google’s other enterprise search offerings have steadily gaining users, so it should be interesting to see if the search giant can make inroads with big-name retailers.

Bodega: A Cross-Platform Marketplace That Lets Gamers Swap Virtual Currencies For Cash

As more games on the web begin to embrace virtual currency, users often run into the same problem: they’ve racked up mountains of whatever currency they’ve been playing with, but then don’t have a way to actually do anything with it outside of that game. Sure, they can always buy the latest tractor or weapon to arrive in their game, but at some point that gets old and they’re ready to cash out and move on to something new. Enter Bodega, a new platform that’s looking to help users swap virtual goods and currencies across different games, and even across different social networks.

Bodega lets users sell their virtual goods at auction in return for for Bodega’s own currency, the Bodega Bill. When you go to sell your virtual goods, you can either put it up as a ‘buy it now’ style purchase or an auction, with a minimum reserve if you want. Users looking to purchase virtual goods can obtain Bodega Bills by completing offers, buying them with their credit cards, or by selling their own virtual goods in the marketplace. You can also earn Bodega Bills by completing actions on the site, like adding another user as a friend or listing an item for sale.

Of course, actually executing these transactions is difficult, because none of these games have any of this functionality built in. To work around this, Bodega holds the buyer’s Bodega Bills in escrow until there is confirmation from both users involved with the transaction that the virtual good has actually been received. This system does have the upside of allowing the platform to work across multiple social networks and platforms (Bodega is currently available on Facebook with plans to launch on MySpace, Bebo, and the iPhone soon), but it’s not the ideal situation. CEO Mark Sendo says that the company is currently in discussions with a number of big games in this space, in the hopes of integrating an API into the games themselves that would negate much of the hassle associated with the transactions, but it sounds like it may be a while before any big deals come to fruition.

Once you’ve earned some Bodega Bills, you can use them to purchase other virtual goods (so you could potentially buy points on another game or social network), or you can trade them in for cash — something that sounds like it could be especially appealing to gamers who are looking to turn their online wealth into something a bit more tangible. Sendo says that the amount of money paid out will be established by the market (the actual conversion rate will likely play a big role in how quickly Bodega catches on).

Virtual currency marketplaces have always been a tricky area, rife with scammers, so-called ‘gold farmers’, and fraud (there’s a reason eBay has largely banned them). But that doesn’t negate the fact that there are lots of people who’d like to sell their virtual goods. Bodega is going to be fighting a long uphill battle here, but if it can pull off a unified, safe platform, there’s plenty of money to be made.

Bodega rose from the ashes of urTurn, a startup we covered last year that looked to reward users for their actions on Facebook.

On Monday, ngmoco released worldwide its latest game for the iPhone and iPod Touch: Eliminate Pro. It’s been downloaded 500,000 times so far at a rate of about 25,000 an hour, currently making it the top free app in iTunes. The top paid app, Skeeball, also happens to be affiliated with ngmoco through its Plus+ social game network. ngmoco has had it’s own top paid apps as well, like Rolando, but CEO Neil Young says that Eliminate Pro is more “representive of where we have been moving our business—free applications, that we monetize with in-app purchases.”

Ever since Apple opened up in-app purchases for free apps two weeks ago, it’s been catching on. In general, free apps are downloaded 10 to 20 times as much as comparable paid apps. Now, says Young, the payments can be “built into the compulsion loop of the game.” In other words, developers will get consumers to try their apps and then ask them to pay only once they are hooked.

This model works particularly well for games. Eliminate Pro easily could have been a paid app for which ngmoco could have charged $7.99 or $9.99. It is the first multiplayer first-person-shooter for the iphone. You play against other people on their iPhones around the world, and can connect to the server-based game via WiFi or the 3G cellular data network.

In order to advance or level up, your battle suit needs to be powered, and you need to buy power cells to charge up your suit. Power cells are the currency of the game. Twitter Testing Out New Tweet Notifications To Keep Users Engaged

Twitter has a problem: A number of users tweet, then lose interest. It needs a way to reengage them in the site. And tonight it’s starting to test one way: Notifications.

The test is currently only rolled out to a “limited” number of users right now, according to this update. But those who have it should notice an indicator similar to what Twitter does to let you know there are new search results on a query (see a capture above and below). There’s another service that does these types of notifications for new messages also: Facebook. Yes, Twitter for once is taking a playbook from its rival rather than the other way around.

When Twitter was still a young service, it used to auto-update with new tweets as they came in, in realtime. That was one of the first features killed off as the service began to explode in size and was having trouble scaling. FriendFeed implemented a similar live-updating stream before the Facebook acquisition, and that seemed to help boost engagement. Twitter currently offers live updating stream with its widgets.

There has always been some debate as to whether a constantly updating stream is better than notifications. Twitter is clearly now choosing the latter. When FriendFeed first launched it, plenty of users complained that the live updating was moving too fast. Seeing as Twitter is much larger than FriendFeed ever was, that could be an issue. The notification method is probably easier on server load than the constantly moving stream, as well.

As you can see in the screenshot below, these notifications shows up in the titlebar as well (just like with Twitter Search).

William Shatner appeared at Madame Tussauds this morning to unveil his wax likeness.

As reported by TrekToday several days ago, Shatner was immortalized in wax as Captain Kirk.

Shatner pushed a button on a control and Captain Kirk from Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan was revealed, standing next to his white command chair and wearing the red uniform top and black trousers that the Star Trek crew wore in The Wrath of Khan.

“Oh my goodness!” exclaimed Shatner, who then went and stood next to the figure. “You know there’s wax in his ears,” he joked.

Room for Greenwood in Star Trek XII

Bruce Greenwood, who played Christopher Pike in Star Trek XI, is eager to be a part of Star Trek XII.

“I can hardly wait,” said Greenwood, talking about the sequel to J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek reboot. Greenwood has spoken to Abrams about Star Trek XII, and Greenwood’s participation in the film. “…there are no guarantees,” said Greenwood. “J.J., one of the nicest guys on the planet, has indicated there will be a place in the project for me.”

Star Trek XII is expected to begin shooting next summer.

Greenwood’s latest project, a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie called A Dog Named Christmas, will air on November 29. A Dog Named Christmas is the story of a developmentally-challenged young man who convinces his family to participate in an “adopt a dog for Christmas” program. Greenwood plays the father of the young man.

Finding The Right Spock

Getting the right actor to play Spock turned out to be surprisingly easy.

A short video on Zachary Quinto’s website explained the casting of Quinto as Spock, from Quinto’s viewpoint as well as from the viewpoint of others like J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Burk and Leonard Nimoy.

“When he came in and read, he was just so perfect,” said Kurtzman. “He was undeniably perfect.”

“There were strangely moments when he actually looked like Leonard [Nimoy,] said Burk. “Like when his head was tilted at certain angles.”

“Well, they sent me some footage of him,” said Nimoy. “I immediately saw there was enough resemblance and a load of talent.”

Star Trek XI Collects Artios Award

At two ceremonies held in New York and Los Angeles yesterday, Star Trek XI was a winner at the 25th Artios Awards for outstanding achievement in casting.

The Artios Awards recognizes originality, creativity and quality in casting in film, television and theater.

Star Trek XI (April Webster, Alyssa Weisberg) was up against Changeling (Ellen Chenoweth,) The Dark Knight (John Papsidera,) Duplicity (Ellen Chenoweth,) and State of Play (Avy Kaufman) for the award in the Big Budget Feature – Drama category.

Abrams: Nothing Is Off-Limits For Star Trek XII

Now that Star Trek XI has successfully established the new actors in the roles of the original series characters, what will the next movie tackle?

While some would prefer an original story, a logical choice for others would be to do an alternate universe Khan.

J.J. Abrams admitted that it would be a challenge to take on the genetic superman, but no more so than to have taken on recasting Kirk, Spock and the rest of the original series crew. “I think one of the byproducts of doing this movie was we were able to dispel the obvious and understandable concerns; how can Star Trek possibly exist without those original cast members?” said Abrams. “Now that we are in a parallel existence with what fans of the original series love so much, we could introduce any number of characters, settings, references and situations that the original series introduced. Dealing with Khan would certainly be a challenge, but we had an equal challenge in finding our crew of the Enterprise.”

Story development for the next Star Trek movie is just beginning, but nothing is off of the table yet, as far as stories or characters go. “While I don’t want to approach the second film as a remake of episodes we’ve seen in the past, nothing is off-limits in terms of what we’re discussing,” said Abrams. “When Bob Orci and the others who know Trek so well, the fun of working with them is they know this universe so deeply, they’re the ones who are always considering what it means to deal with the stuff in the past, so it’ll be exciting.”

Shatner: Wax Figure And New Priceline Commercial

William Shatner will be immortalized in wax by the world-famous Madame Tussauds.

On Wednesday, November 4 at 11:30 A.M., Shatner will appear in person at Madame Tussauds on Hollywood Boulevard to unveil his wax likeness.

The Hollywood Madame Tussauds features Hollywood icons such as Clark Gable and Marlene Dietrich; movie characters such as Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and The Bride (Uma Thurman); movie stars such as Johnny Depp, Nicole Kidman and Robin Williams; and movie directors, pop stars and sports stars.

Not content with having his figure in wax, Shatner is also appearing in a new Priceline commercial as a bobblehead figure.

In the new commercial, a traveler gets into a cab, and tells the cabbie that he “didn’t get a chance to book a hotel,” asking the cabbie for help.

“Psst, hey,” says a voice, which turns out to be a bobbleheaded Shatner figure in a suit. Mr. Bobblehead Shatner explains to the unprepared traveler how to negotiate a good hotel rate, even at the last minute.

Trek Or Treat

Fans of War of the Worlds are in for a special Trek treat, as an airing of a classic radio show featuring several well-known Star Trek actors is available this weekend.

The L.A. Theater Works has posted their broadcast of War of the Worlds, which features Leonard Nimoy, Gates McFadden, Wil Wheaton and Brent Spiner. This War of the Worlds broadcast was directed by John de Lancie.

In addition to War of the Worlds, one can listen to Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World which follows a scientific expedition deep into the Amazon jungle and back to the time of cavemen and dinosaurs.

Finally, there is an all-new “Question and Answer” session with Leonard Nimoy, recorded before a studio audience.

Retro Review: Cost of Living

Lwaxana Troi arrives to wed a man she’s never met, prepared to forego the traditional nude Betazoid ceremony, but unwilling to stop teaching Alexander about free thinking and mud baths.

Plot Summary: When the Enterprise destroys an asteroid on a collision course with an inhabited planet, the ship picks up parasitic particles that begin to feed on the ship’s hull. While the crew remains oblivious, Troi tries to counsel Worf and Alexander about respecting one another’s wishes, but she is interrupted by the news that her mother is coming aboard. Lwaxana intends to marry Campio, the Third Minister of Kostolain’s Conference of Judges – royalty – yet she has never met the man, only read his profile and communicated via subspace. Troi finds this behavior impulsive and is not comforted when Lwaxana announces that Alexander has been given too much responsibility; she invites the child to skip a counseling session and relax in a mud bath in a holographic representation of a free-thinking society. Lwaxana herself feels restricted by the master of protocol who has accompanied her intended aboard the Enterprise, who insists that Lwaxana must wear a family wedding gown and avoid intimate contact with the groom before the wedding. Meanwhile, minor power failures aboard the ship begin to escalate into more serious problems, and Data discovers that an unknown ooze has begun to appear on the ship’s machinery. LaForge determines that the ship picked up parasitic particles that are devouring a critical element in the Enterprise’s structure. He believes the particles can be convinced to return to their home asteroids, if only the ship can hold together long enough to reach it. As life support fails and the crew begins to lose consciousness, Data takes the ship back to the asteroid field, where he is able to beam the parasites away. With the ship safe, the wedding begins, but Lwaxana shocks everyone by arriving in Betazoid fashion – completely naked. This has the intended effect of scaring the groom off, and Lwaxana then insists that Troi and Worf join her and Alexander for a mudbath.

Analysis: How one feels about “Cost of Living,” I suspect, depends entirely on how one feels about Lwaxana Troi, who seems to generate more extreme reactions even than Wesley Crusher. I adore Lwaxana, so I really like this episode, yet I can’t argue with anyone who complains that the science fiction plot is weak, the holodeck scenes are ridiculous, and Worf’s domestic problems are taking up more than their fair share of series time. It’s all pretty silly, even the deadly ooze that LaForge politely describes as the waste from the parasitic particles digesting the ship…in other words, alien poop. But it’s all worthwhile just to see the faces of everyone at the wedding when Lwaxana walks in au naturel…Riker grinning broadly, Picard shaking his head as if it were only to be expected, Troi gaping, Worf shocked, Alexander proud, the groom horrified beyond words.

Obviously, this is an episode about the compromises people are willing to make for their families, the negotiations parents make to teach their children the independent values they want them to possess while at the same time hoping for a degree of obedience, the tradeoffs found acceptable or unacceptable to avoid being alone. When Troi practically stamps her foot and tells her mother that Lwaxana is preaching rebellion to Alexander just when Worf is trying to teach him responsibility, giving the boy mixed messages, Lwaxana replies that she gave Deanna plenty of mixed messages and Deanna still turned out deadly dull. One imagines that her parenting style was completely the opposite of Worf’s, other than the fact that Worf and Lwaxana can both throw a mighty tantrum when they feel that their opinions are being taken for granted by their nearest and dearest.

Troi’s bias seems to be with the father and his need for discipline rather than with the son, who is still testing boundaries with a man who did not raise him and is new to parenthood. In retrospect, it’s apparent that Troi and Worf are beginning to explore feelings beyond the platonic, testing the possibility of a more serious relationship than that of colleagues and friends with the added complication of a child who likes them both but doesn’t feel entirely safe with either. Alexander’s outburst to Lwaxana, that he misses his mother, is very telling – of course that’s what’s behind his lingering resentment of Worf, and perhaps of potential surrogate Troi as well – so Lwaxana doesn’t try to address him as an ambassador or advisor. She takes on the role of indulgent grandma and Alexander thrives in her presence even if his chores don’t get done. Lest anyone should forget that she is a trained diplomat and crisis negotiator, she calmly escorts the boy to safety when the holodeck falls victim to the malfunctions plaguing the ship. Have I mentioned that I love Lwaxana Troi?

Deanna, the calm, sensitive counselor, is at her absolute least tolerant dealing with her mother, yet it’s hard to blame her when Jean-Luc Picard isn’t far behind. At first he rages to Riker that he doesn’t want Lwaxana using his ship for her own purposes whenever she wishes, but when Riker tells him that she wants the captain to give the bride away, Picard is only too happy to agree. It figures that Riker is neither angered nor unnerved by Lwaxana Troi; he’s a fan of strong women and her flirting has never fazed him in the least. When it comes to dealing with Mrs. Troi, though, the real revelation is Worf, whom she insists on calling “Mr. Woof” though one suspects she’s had enough training as a diplomat to be perfectly aware that that’s not his name, and furthermore that it infuriates both Worf and Deanna. Worf may have trouble keeping his temper with his son, but he’s a model of restraint where Lwaxana Troi is concerned. Who can blame him for popping a holographic bubble with the mime inside? Worf’s scowling, growling countenance – he is not a merry man – is played for comic relief, yet there are serious undertones to the character’s behavior. For Troi’s sake, he puts up with her mother’s inanity, while at the same time learning what he must put up with from Alexander if he wants to keep the boy close, which it would seem despite all his gruffness that he does.

Oh yes, and there’s some business with parasites and the ship nearly blowing up. When I think about this episode in terms of the sci-fi, I can’t remember whether this is the one with the nanites or the Soliton wave or what – it’s certainly not a memorable tech crisis of the week. Picard would do the same thing again – put his ship and crew at risk to stop the asteroid threatening an inhabited planet – and run into the same unknowns – so there’s no sort of lesson learned. If there’s a moral, it’s either that e-Harmony has the same flaws in the 24th century that it has today, or that if you want to know how people really feel about you, you should walk into a formal event naked. The ones who really love you will follow you to a mud bath afterward.

Mulgrew Would Play Janeway Again

Kate Mulgrew hasn’t seen Star Trek XI yet, but if J.J. Abrams came along and offered her a part in a movie, she wouldn’t turn him down.

Mulgrew explained why she hadn’t yet seen the Star Trek reboot. “I haven’t, but not for any bad reason,” she said. “It’s a reason of comfort. I did Star Trek myself, and I want to enjoy it when I see it, I want to be comfortable when I see it, so I’m going to wait until I can see it in my living room. I understand that both of those young men [Pine and Quinto] are extraordinary. I’m sure it’s beautifully done. I just want to see it in the comfort of my home.

Would Mulgrew ever play Janeway again? “I would,” she said. “I’d love to return to Janeway! I’d love to do her in a movie, it would be great.”

If Abrams called her for a part in a Star Trek movie, Mulgrew wouldn’t hesitate. “I’d love to do it! I think he’d be wise to do it, don’t you? He should get Picard and myself in there. I think that’s a brilliant idea.”

Mulgrew also spoke of her days on Star Trek: Voyager, and had several favorite episodes. “I loved Death Wish, the discussion of suicide in the Continuum, because I thought that it was the first time that we really saw Janeway in a conundrum. And that’s the best of Star Trek, when the dilemma is philosophical. I also loved Counterpoint, where I could have a little love. I loved Endgame, where I had my hand in almost every aspect of that. I enjoyed a lot of them. A few of them left a little something to be desired, but most of them I thought were very well done.”

Her fondest memory from her Star Trek: Voyager days wasn’t a specific show or scene, however, but her friendships with her fellow actors. “…I can say that I made in Bob Picardo and Robbie McNeill and others, great friends, friends forever. Certain truths, and intimacies were shared over seven years and they were profoundly moving. So in as much as the job was everything for almost a decade of my life, these friendships allowed me to fully embrace it.”

Hardy Joins Mad Max Cast

It’s official, Tom Hardy (Shinzon in Star Trek: Nemesis) has been cast as Mad Max.

As reported recently at TrekToday, Hardy was in the running to replace Mel Gibson as Mad Max in Mad Max 4: Fury Word.

In addition to Hardy, Charlize Theron (Monster) will also be in the post-apocalyptic film.

Filming for Max Max 4 will begin next August, in Australia. There are no details on the plot yet, but it is known that there will be plenty of stunt work, with “super fast vehicles” that are under development. “It’s obviously over-the-top,” said Director George Miller. “But they’ll [the vehicles] have to be very high performance because the film is shot in speed, and they’ll have to be very, very safe. The reason this movie is so big is that there’s just a huge number of stunts. We’re trying to do stuff that I believe people haven’t done before.”

Nimoy: Who Do You Think You Are?

With Star Trek XI behind him, Leonard Nimoy is concentrating on his photography projects.

Last year, Nimoy spent two sixteen-hour days shooting portraits of people who had answered his public invitation to share their hidden selves.

Of the ninety-five who were photographed, Nimoy chose twenty-five of them for an exhibit, Who Do You Think You Are, that will go on display next summer in Massachusetts.

“The idea was to invite people to reveal their secret selves, the self they wish to be or the self they hide from the world,” explained Nimoy. “There was a measure of bravery in this by everyone involved. I had no idea what to expect. Some of the people walked in with these amazing stories, stories you couldn’t anticipate or make up.”

The twenty-five images can be seen here. (Not all images are “worksafe.”) There are photos of wizards, a man who would be Superman, a gay rabbi wearing a leather vest who used the occasion to publicly announce that he was gay, a forest spirit, woman with a chainsaw expressing her unrecognized inner masculine power, a “shy whore,” boxer and a “forest spirit” whose desire was to “avoid war, strife and violence of all kinds, and be part of nature.”

The photography reflects Northampton, and Nimoy wonders how different it would have been had the submission process been different or had the shoot be done in another city. “It would be interesting to see what would happen if you solicited people, sought them out instead of making a public invitation,” said Nimoy. “It might be a difficult process, an ordeal, or it might be explosive. What would you get if you did this in a different community, such as Los Angeles? Would it be totally different? I don’t know the answers to these questions.”

And what is Nimoy’s own “secret self?” “I have no secrets left,” said Nimoy. “I revealed it all long ago.”

On Halloween night, Nimoy will be at the Santa Monica Museum of Art for a one-night exhibition of selected photographs from the project.

Star Trek: Online – The Future Past: Part Two

The almost three-and-a-half minute video begins with the Klingons, who have troubles with a shapeshifting tripedal alien trying to infiltrate the Klingon High Command.

On the war front, the Klingons finally defeat the Gorn after a long war. Emboldened by their success, they turn their eyes towards Federation territory.

There are also thirteen new Star Trek: Online screenshots. As usual, they include battles, aliens, and beautiful space shots.

Okuda NASA Mission Patches

Michael Okuda has been designing mission patches for NASA for years and his patches include several for the Constellation program.

The first flight of NASA’s Ares I-X launched successfully this morning from launchpad 39B at Kennedy Space Center. Okuda designed a patch for the Ares (launch vehicle,) Orion (crew vehicle) and Constellation program (under which both Ares and Orion falls.)

Okuda was awarded the NASA Exceptional Public Service Medal last July for his artwork. The medal recognizes “exceptional contributions to the mission of NASA.”

“I love the style of military unit or squadron emblems,” said Okuda. “That wonderful sense of bravado, since that’s such a big part of NASA’s culture.”

Okuda’s Star Trek art design work could be seen in four of the five television series, six Star Trek films and work on the Star Trek: Remastered series.

The Ares will be used to transport astronauts to the International Space Station after the space shuttle is retired, and will also be used to explore destinations below low Earth orbit.

No More Nimoy In Fringe?

Could Leonard Nimoy’s role as the mysterious William Bell be coming to an end?

“I’ve done three appearances for them,” said Nimoy. “I don’t know if I will do a fourth.”

Nimoy won’t know the answer to that until he finds out what the plans are for Bell. “They’ve asked me to do more, but we have to talk about where the character is going.”

“So far my character, William Bell, and my appearances have been used to lay in information about this alternate universe and the experience of being in this other world,” explained Nimoy. “And that’s OK, but I don’t know yet what plans they have for really developing a dramatic story for the character. I’m waiting for a conversation about that.”

Nimoy will have some of that conversation with J.J. Abrams, but more with Jeff Pinkner, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. “I think they’re talking amongst themselves now so they can present some kind of plan, a story arc of some kind.”

Star Trek Klingon Bonus Footage Online

Fans who watched Spike TV’s airing of the 2009 Scream Awards last night got an unexpected bonus, a short “bonus clip” from Star Trek XI showing Nero (Eric Bana) in a Klingon prison.

In the clip, Nero is threatened with the use of a Centaurian slug (in Star Trek XI, he threatens Captain Pike with one of the slugs,) but no one can keep a bad Romulan down for long.

The bonus clip isn’t the only treat for Star Trek fans. Another clip on the site features William Shatner on stage during the Scream Awards teasing J.J. In 1976, Inside Star Trek was released, which was a look at the development of Star Trek as well as the story of Gene Roddenberry. One of the tracks on the album, “William Shatner meets Captain Kirk,” can be heard at Roddenberry.com and has Roddenberry and William Shatner asking each other questions and answering the questions posed by each other.

Star Trek XI Collects Another Award

Star Trek XI was a winner at Monday night’s Hollywood Film Festival’s Hollywood Awards.

Started thirteen years ago, the Hollywood Awards are chosen based on “private, press, preview and festival screenings, as well as recommendations from a cross section of Hollywood professionals, including actors, agents, executives, directors, film critics, entertainment journalists, managers, producers, publicists, screenwriters and members of the guilds and societies.”

Although it’s not one of the more prestigious award ceremonies, plenty of stars were in appearance, including Steven Spielberg, Morgan Freeman, Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Charlize Theron, Sandra Bullock, Diablo Cody, Kate Beckinsale, Kathleen Kennedy, Marisa Tomei, Michael Bay, Maria Bello, Edward Asner and Taraji P. Henson.

Star Trek XI was the winner of the Hollywood Movie of the Year. Zachary Quinto (Spock) accepted the award. “Gee, I’m shocked the online community chose to honor Star Trek,” he said.

A new batch of Star Trek: Online screenshots have been released this week.

Five new screenshots from Star Trek: Online include a shot of Federation officers fighting off a squadron of Klingons.

Other shots feature battle in space, including two of Federation ships being attacked in a field of asteroids, an image in a control or engineering room of some sort where someone is in there who does not belong, and another ship battle scene in space, with the sky lit up by weapon fire to a brilliant orange color.

Abrams Won’t Direct Mission: Impossible IV

Although he will be involved with Mission: Impossible IV, J.J. Abrams won’t be directing the movie.

In 2006, Abrams directed his first feature film, Mission: Impossible III, but he won’t do the same for Mission: Impossible IV, which goes into production next year for a probable 2011 release.

“I’m producing with Tom [Cruise,] said Abrams. “My guess is, given other things, that I will not be directing the movie.”

According to Abrams the story for Mission: Impossible IV, will “feel consistent with the world that has been created. It’s not a reboot kind of thing.” Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec will be writing the screenplay.

Cruise wanted Abrams for Mission: Impossible IV. “Tom asked if I’d be interested in working with him again,” said Abrams. “I didn’t have a sense of what the story would be, but very quickly this idea came to mind, and Tom reacted to it in a way that got me excited, and then we got André and Josh to come onboard, and they began developing the idea with us.”

Although he has many irons in the fire, Abrams would not be averse to adding another one, being interested in the Superman franchise, as he told MTV recently. “It was a very passionate character for me,” he said. “As a kid growing up it meant a lot to me. It would be wonderful and fun to see that brought back. I don’t know what Warners is thinking or what their plan is. It would be a blast.”

Abrams has written a script about Superman, which has made the Internet rounds, and he feels that a later draft of this script would make a good movie. “That version of the movie, the one that was reviewed and vilified, was actually not the latest draft we had at the time and we worked on it well after that. I do think there’s a version of that movie that could be really fun to see. You never really know. Everything happens for a reason.”

Cavalli a Palermo

L’idea nacque una domenica mattina mentre ci godevamo il sole di primavera alle spalle di Porta Felice. Luogo deputato da sempre alla partenza delle corse dei cavalli che si concludevano a Porta Nuova, 1848 metri più sù. Remy Sautet, conduttore di una popolare trasmissione sui cavalli su “France 3”, mio ospite, decise di rivisitare con la telecamera Palermo e i suoi cavalli.
Cominciamo proprio da quella piazza di fronte il “Nautico” affollata di studenti. Il Cavallo Marino del Marabitti ricorda il mito di Arione, l’arrivo dei primi cavalli in Sicilia, sbarcati sui bassi fondali per raggiungere la riva.
- Arione? mai sentito… Uno dei tanti mostri marini di cui favoleggiarono i marinai… – Come no? il cavalluccio marino, detto ippocampo… -
Chiara deformazione professionale di questi futuri lupi di mare. Meglio passare alla storia.
E la storia dei nostri primi cavalli passa per le pareti della “Grotta Niscemi” all’interno della Favorita. Furono i primi cavalli palermitani. “Equus Hydruntinus o Equus Caballus?” mi chiede una voce dal fondo con forte accento tedesco.
- Mai visto un palermitano qua dentro … – precisa l’annoiato “incaricato” mentre conta le mance.
Da un numismatico cerchiamo monete greche e puniche di Sicilia con cavalli. Tutte le città siciliane celebrarono con bellissime monete vittorie di bighe e quadrighe; fa eccezione Palermo: solo belle teste con froge dilatate e orecchie diritte. Teste da cavallo di battaglia…
Decidiamo di andare per stalle. Quelle normanne della Caserma Bonsignore sono state trasformate in mensa sottufficiali. La bella “Cavallerizza di Presidio” di Palazzo Reale in “sala operativa”.
- Stavano qui i cavalli della Contessa Adelasia?
Per fortuna loro, e nostra, quei cavalli rimasero sui monti di San Filadelfo, oggi San Fratello.
Stalle di Palazzo Mirto: poste elegantissime, mangiatoie in marmo di Billiemi, ma l’ultimo ad attaccare i “legni di Casa” fu Pietro Lanza di Scalea. Riesco pure a procurarmi sua foto mentre esce di casa in carrozza con Don Ciccio il cocchiere: è del 1955.
Fascino del rudere per le stalle del principe d’Aragona ridotte a cadenti depositi. Grande uomo di cavalli, fu proprietario di Omar, lo stallone che servì da modello a Civiletti per il monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II di fronte la Stazione Centrale.
“Con gli Aragonesi ci arrivarono i cavalli di Spagna: ginetti per le corse e solidi cavalli da sella per i primi servizi di posta: nasceva la Correrìa di Posta…”
Con le nostre attrezzature siamo a piazza Croce dei Vespri: di fronte Palazzo Ganci s’apre il “Vico dei Corrieri”. Remy cerca qualcosa, una traccia labile che ricordi quegli antichi corrieri che, per nostra fortuna, rilasciarono tanto di ricevuta: “16 febbraro 1561 – Io Gabriele di Michele siciliano confexo havere recevuto da Messere Pirro Leporino ut supra bancho grani vinti cinqui per portarsi una litera ad Notare Fiore de Priore…”.

Del vicino caravanserraglio di El Atharin resta solo il nome di “Via Lattarini”; del “funnacu ri Zu Rusariu” all’Albergheria lo sbiadito ricordo d’un vecchietto che si gode il sole. Alle sue spalle il “Cortile della Morella” ricorda una cavalla di quel mantello d’un lontano Settecento.
È la seconda domenica di maggio e non voglio perdermi la fiera dei cavalli di Ponte Ammiraglio. Da oltre cinquecento anni, i “bazzarioti” portano cavalli, asini, muli, vacche e vitelli, cani da caccia, agnelli e capre. Non mancano sellai, falegnami e fabbri ferrai con i loro prodotti.
Remy, affascinato da quelle facce, dai colori, dai suoni, è eccitato quanto l’operatore.
Non si vede un vigile urbano, solo alcuni volenterosi per regolare il traffico.
- Per carità, non scriva niente, non faccia vedere queste cose in televisione… Se ci mette la mano il Comune siamo fritti. Arriverebbero “sbirri” a chiedere bolle e fatture, magari il registratore di cassa. Ci vorrebbero permessi, certificati e autorizzazioni… Farebbero morire questa nostra fiera…

Il titolo gli venne concesso da Re Ferdinando per consentirgli di regolare la scandalosa storia d’alcova con la cinquantenne, ma ancora esuberante Donna Caterina, vedova del principe di Butera. È lui il “Lord Radaly” indicato sui documenti inglesi per l’esportazione in Sicilia d’un figlio del celebre Haphazard, nel 1806: il primo purosangue a lasciare la Gran Bretagna!
Remy Sautet è stupefatto: “…avete inventato la leggenda di Arione il cavallo marino, siete stati i primi ad avere cavalli di purosangue, avete la più antica fiera cavalli d’Italia, ogni angolo di questa Città ha una storia di cavalli da raccontare. Il cavallo qui è cultura e storia, ma sembra non interessare nessuno…”.
Scrisse qualcuno che “Palermo riesce a conservare il segreto di grandi civiltà consumate…”.
Già, perché violarlo?

Scoma lancia l’idea degli europei di Calcio a Palermo nel 2016

Nel convegno I grandi eventi e lo sviluppo del Mezzogiorno, svoltosi durante Le Giornate dell’Economia del Mezzogiorno di ieri, il vicesindaco di Palermo Francesco Scoma ha parlato di una candidatura cittadina per i campionati europei di calcio Uefa del 2016 (l’Italia ha inviato una lettera di intenti per essere paese ospitante): «Probabilmente c’è stato un errore di comunicazione tra soggetti istituzionali, in più la decisione è scaturita dalla considerazione della situazione reale della città. Palermo forse non è pronta per ospitare dal punto di vista delle infrastrutture le Olimpiadi ma resto comunque convinto dell’importanza dell’organizzazione dei grandi eventi. Per questo mi batterò a Roma per la candidatura di Palermo come sede degli europei di calcio del 2016. [...] La Sicilia purtroppo perde ogni giorno posti di lavoro, incrementando la disoccupazione. Ospitare grandi eventi significa incrementare il conto economico della città poiché è possibile creare intorno all’evento un giro d’affari importante».

sono stata per mia fortuna, ma sono sempre più convinta che si tratti di sfortuna, a più funerali di persone che non conoscevo, che di gente che conoscevo.
tu non te lo puoi ricordare, ma quel giorno io ero fissa appoggiata alla colonna e tu eri a prendere un caffé seduta al tavolino con la sedia di ferro e plastica arancione che cigolava, i bambini che ciarlavano poco lontano e tu ti sei alzata e hai urlato qualcosa. io di te ho pensato molte cose quel giorno, mi rivedo solo adesso superiore, snob, indifferente, supponente, umile solo di facciata, affascinata solo per sentito dire.
io sono sfatta, triste, in questi giorni, senza creatività, senza stimoli, ogni volta che scrivo gironi invece che giorni penso sempre che non sia un caso. lo penso e poi alzo la testa e mi guardo intorno, la sedia mezza arrugginita cigola, il caffé s’è fatto freddo, quei diavoli di ragazzini stanno rompendo i coglioni, adesso mi alzo e urlo di andare tutti a quel paese.

Back in the old days, before Twitter exploded into the phenomenon that it is now, I got a message from Greg Grunberg. Greg plays Matt Parkman on Heroes (this information, which most of you don't need, is provided as a public service to the seven of you who do), and has been in every JJ Abrams project since JJ started making movies in the pre-old days.

Greg and I traded several messages about a bunch of different things, and then he sent me a private message that said something like, "JJ needs voice actors for Star Trek. Would you be interested in doing that?"

"Well, let me think about this for .00005 seconds," I thought. "I love Star Trek, I love voice acting, and ... why am I still thinking about this?!"

I replied in the affirmative as quickly as my fingers could get the thoughts out of my head.

Shortly after I sent my reply, I had a different series of thoughts that went something like this: "This is way too good to be true. This has to be a prank. Someone is fucking with me and I'm going to be the butt of a pretty mean joke." But then I had still another thought: "I'm not famous enough to be Punk'd, and Greg Grunberg doesn't seem like the kind of person who would do something mean, anyway." I was, as they say, cautiously optimistic.

About 24 hours later, JJ Abrams called me. It was an entertaining conversation; I couldn't believe he wanted me to do work on his film, and he couldn't believe that I wanted to do it. He asked me if I'd be interested in playing some Romulans, and I think I held my hand over the phone so he couldn't hear me squeal in delight before I calmly told him that, yes, I thought I could do that. I don't recall precisely why, but we agreed that it would be extra cool to keep it a secret until the heat death of the universe, an uncredited bit of awesome that only a handful of people in the world would know about ... unless we told them. (In fact, as far as I know, only a dozen people in the world knew about this until some meddling kids and their dog at Viacom found out about it this summer, and said we had to give me credit and stuff.)

I met JJ at an ADR stage a few days later, where he told me the entire plot of the movie (and, for the record, hearing JJ Freakin' Abrams tell you the plot of his Star Trek is even more awesome than you'd expect) and showed me some of the scenes that I'd be dubbing. I ended up providing voices for all the Romulans on Nero's ship, including the guy who tells him that "it's time" at the very beginning of the movie. (Yeah, how cool is that?)

I was distracted for the first 15 or 20 minutes before we started work, because I kept expecting someone to come out from behind a screen with a camera to laugh at me, but when I was given my dialog and recorded my first take, I knew that it was really happening.

I thought it would be really hard to keep my squee under control, but when I stood there in the darkened ADR stage, three pages of dialog in front of me, sitting in the soft glow of a single dim light clipped to a music stand, I was able to put my inner awkward superfan into check long enough to be a professional actor. I mean, I was working for JJ freakin' Abrams on Star frekin' Trek, so maybe I could rise to the occasion, you know?

We recorded dialog for about an hour or so, I guess, and when we were finished, JJ invited me to come with him over to the mixing stage, where he was going to watch a reel of the film.

Um. Okay. Yeah, I think I can do that. I texted Anne something like, "Probably never coming home again. I'm going to stay here with my new best friend JJ Abrams and watch as much of Star Trek as he'll let me."

So you know that scene where Kirk climbs out of the pod, runs away from the monster, and eventually meets Spock Prime in the cave? I got to watch that scene over and over, as they made the wind sound colder, then warmer, then colder and more fierce. I got to hear the roar of the monsters deepened, softened, made more terrifying, made louder, made softer. I got to hear the fire in Spock Prime's cave crackle more, then less, then more again, because the wind outside was now colder and more fierce, so it should probably be a warmer fire.

It was one of the coolest things in the world to watch, not just on screen, but in the room, too. The way JJ interacted with the other creative people in the room as they mixed the sound, the music, the foley, and everything else that we tend to just take for granted when we're in the theatre watching a movie was just fascinating. I don't know if all directors are like this, but he didn't let a single second go by like it was any less important than another.

Sooner than I'd would have liked, though, I began to feel like I was just hanging out, and even though I knew I could have stayed longer and watched more, I decided that it was best for me to leave before I overstayed my welcome.

JJ and I thanked each other, talked the way you do in Hollywood about maybe working together again in the future (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease oh please, Steve the Fruitbat, please make that happen) and I walked down the now-dark streets of the studio toward my car. I kept it under control until I drove out of the lot, at which time I bounced around in my chair like ... well, like a guy who loves Star Trek and just got to work on Star Trek would bounce around.

They digitally-altered my voice to sound like different people, but when I saw the movie, I could definitely tell that it was me underneath the effects. In fact, there's one moment near the end of the movie where one of the Romulans is yelling at Nero, and it's my plain old voice without any alterations. I bounced in my seat when I saw that in the theater just like ... well, you know.

Le regioni montane italiane temono ritorsioni da parte della Svizzera. Se la Svizzera chiudesse i rubinetti del denaro, molti comuni non potrebbero più finanziare le loro scuole o strutture sociali. Perciò hanno fatto scattare l’allarme presso il governo a Roma.

«Non possiamo permetterci che le tensioni tra Svizzera e Italia compromettano servizi fondamentali», ha detto lunedì Enrico Borghi, presidente dell’Unione delle Comunità Montane (Uncem) davanti all’agenzia di notizie Ansa.

Dell’associazione fanno parte comuni della regione Lombardia, Piemonte e Val d’Aosta, che confinano tutti con la Svizzera. Essi ricevono annualmente circa 36 milioni di euro dell’imposta sul reddito sui frontalieri, che la Svizzera versa all’Italia.

Nel Ticino il CVP (Partito Popolare Democratico, N. d. T.) ha calcolato che il cantone del sud abbia versato, tra il 1974 e il 2007, oltre 888 milioni di franchi di imposta sul reddito sui frontalieri. Questo corrisponde a circa il 40 per cento del totale dei proventi.

Poichè la Svizzera nel 2006 ha stipulato un accordo con l’Austria, in base al quale questo vicino riceve solo il 12,5 per cento dei proventi, il CVP, l’SVP (Partito Popolare Svizzero, N. d. T.) e la Lega pensano che sia ora di nuovi negoziati con Roma.

Con tali misure questi partiti vorrebbero controbattere all’attacco del ministro delle finanze italiano Tremonti alla piazza finanziaria svizzera il cui obiettivo dichiarato è chiudere l’oasi bancaria di Lugano.

Se la Svizzera chiudesse di fatto il rubinetto del denaro si creerebbe una grossa falla nell’amministrazione di molti comuni italiani. Questi ultimi chiedono, pertanto, che il loro governo a Roma garantisca contributi anche in futuro e, come ha detto Borghi, indipendentemente dall’esito dei negoziati con la Svizzera.
