Biggest update ever! 2 spring tours, SXSW, Vegas, URB mag, DJ Times, and more!!!

Wow.

So things have been crazy busy over at BIGONCE.COM headquarters over the last couple months. I know I can never update my site as much as I want to, so today I’m happy to announce a TON of new stuff coming up over the next three months.

First off, I’m doing TWO separate tours this spring with the fine folks at Red Bull. Both will run simultaneously throughout March to May, so I’m going to be all over the country up until summer. Crazy!! First and foremost, I will be traveling to all of the Red Bull Thre3style regional battles this year! I’ll be judging every one and showcasing at most of them, so to say I’m excited for this opportunity would be an understatement. Red Bull is making me the face of Thre3style this year and I could not be happier. Things all kick off Thursday, March 1st at Ruby Skye in San Francisco, CA where I’ll be judging the SF regional. Below are the public confirmed dates (there are several more dates coming soon, but we can’t announce them just yet).

3/1 – San Francisco Qualifier @ Ruby Skye, 420 Mason St., San Francisco, CA 94109
4/18 – Chicago Qualifier @ The Mid, 306 N. Halsted Street, Chicago, IL 60661
4/28 – Dallas Qualifier (Venue TBA)
5/3 – Los Angeles Qualifier (Venue TBA)

In addition to judging all of the battles, I am also performing at both the Thre3style SXSW and Las Vegas showcases this year! More details on ther Vegas show coming this week, but below are the dates for both showcases:

3/14 – Las Vegas Nightclub and Bar Show Showcase @ LAX, 3900 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89119. (Also performing: Tina T, Michael McPherson, Morse Code, and 2011 Thre3style World Champion Hedspin)

3/17 – SXSW Showcase @ 8th & Trinity Austin, TX. (Also performing: Z-Trip, Jazzy Jeff, Dan the Automator, Datsik, and 2011 Thre3style World Champion Hedspin)

In addition to all the Thre3style madness, myself and Movement Music recording artist/2011 Thre3style Chicago runner-up DJ Trentino will be headlining the brand-new Red Bull JFR Tour. We will be performing on 4 turntables at college towns throughout the Midwest. More info on all of these dates coming soon… All we can say right now is its gonna be stupid wild. Lastly, a few weeks after the Thre3style World Finals Phil Nacionales at URB Magazine put up a ton of amazing content up on URB.COM. Lastly, I will have a full interview piece in the March issue of DJ Times Magazine, due on newstands worldwide next week.

January Updates!

Hello world.

A couple early morning updates from Big Once worldwide headquarters. First off, my THRE3STYLE REMIX PACK has been getting some HUGE love over the past couple weeks and I could not be happier. Check the posts on DJCITY.COM, DJ CITY JAPAN, BEEZO, DANTECHICAGO, and more. Also just found out that the almighty DJ Ayres of The Rub just included the track “Get Leveled” on his January Top 10 list. He also told me he dropped the track on NYE at Southpaw in Brooklyn, so that definitely rules.

A few new Jan and Feb shows have been added over at the CALENDAR section… Some highlights include The WBEZ Winter Block Party at the Metro, Kool Keith(!) at Reggie’s, The Meat Number 5 album release party, Dre Day 2012 at Double Door, Union Bar in Iowa City, IA and my debut at Segredo in Madison, WI. I will also be hitting the road in the spring for a series of secret shows… More on that later though.

Speaking of Meat Number 5, we are releasing our brand new 12-track album entitled “Low Flying Planes” Friday, Jan 27th at Subterranean with our homies from Face Melt. Our website is now fully launched as well. We will have copies of the new album for the show as well as DOPE new t-shirts designed by the always amazing Joey Potts. We’re definitely excited for the release of this album… you can peep a teaser video for one of our tracks here.

Hello friends,

Now that the madness of the 2011 Red Bull Thre3style World Finals is finally over, I’m taking this opportunity to upload a ton of new content to BIGONCE.COM. First off, I uploaded a brand new EPK (design courtesy of the illustrious DJ de la Chapelle). You can peep said EPK via the PRESS KIT_ and DWNLD_EPK links to the right of the page. I’ve also added a bunch of new videos, including my complete 2011 Red Bull Thre3style U.S. Finals winning routine. Peep the videos HERE.

Now, for the big news. I’ve completed my first ever remix pack, just in time for your NYE parties! Below is a link to six high quality, DJ-friendly remixes for your listening and playing enjoyment. Four of the tracks are routines from various rounds of the 2011 Red Bull Thre3style battles that I built out into playable edits; and I’ve also included two bonus remixes. One is an old dead prez and Skream blend that I’ve been doing for years but never built out, and the other is one of my favorite remixes from my great friend and personal turntable sensei, the legendary Kid Cut Up.

Thre3style World Finals Update

Okay internets, I’m gonna make this really quick.

Been working like crazy trying to get TWO World Finals sets together… so in the interest of not wasting precious practice time, here is the link to the Red Bull Thre3style World Finals in Vancouver, Canada on December 13-17th. If you haven’t been paying attention or haven’t cared enough to check, I competed in the US Finals a couple weeks ago in Las Vegas and beat out 10 of the best DJs in America for a shot to represent our fine country in the World Finals. They are breaking all of the countries into four days of prelims; my date is December 16th. I’ll have to take out the representatives from France, New Zealand, Chile, and Peru in order to advance to the finals the next night. I definitely have a lot of work to do so Imma go head and get back to work.

One more quick thing… thank you to Kid Cut Up, Pumpin Pete, DJ Trentino, D-JR, and 2011 DMC World Champion DJ Vajra for all your help with my set(s) so far.

Red Bull Thre3style Recap

Holy shit. Its been 8 days since the Red Bull Thre3style US Finals and I’m still trying to process everything that happened. If you were there or watched the fine DJCity.com teaser wrap-up, I was shocked and humbled to have won and earned the chance to represent the US in the World Finals next month. I could go on for days about how amazing the event was, what a great time I had meeting and hanging out with the DJs, and how much I was honored to be a part of such an incredible weekend; but I’m gonna do my best to keep this short.

First off, all the DJs were incredible and really represented themselves and their respective cities well. As a fan, I was so excited to see everyone’s sets and no one disappointed. Mixcloud has released all the sets (except for mine) for streaming on their site… check them out HERE.

I’m doing a full wrap-up and interview in conjunction with a prominent DJ site later this week, so in the meantime check the official Red Bull Recap, full N9neGroup photo gallery, and interviews with DJ Vice and SYFFAL.com.

One last thing, I’m keeping all audio and videos of my set under wraps until after the World Finals next month. So for everyone asking, I will be putting out video, audio, and a collection of my Thre3style remixes at the end of the year. Details on the World Finals will be coming soon, so check back in the next week or so on that.

Help Meat Number 5 press CDs!

So as you should all know by now (or if you don’t, see the post below) my band Meat Number 5 is almost done with our second full length album. We will be giving it away as a free download, but we’d like to press it up on CD as well. We are taking a stab at a Kickstarter project attempting to get some assistance with duplication, mastering and shipping costs. For those unfamiliar with Kickstarter, its a pretty awesome network for artists looking to raise money to fund creative projects. We have revamped our website (holler at it here) and put a new track up on youtube for your listening enjoyment. Man, do I suck at updates. Being the complete and total slack ass that I am, I am always behind in updating the blog portion of this fine site. However, my gig calendar is always up to date with my latest gigs, you can peep that HERE. You can also stay up on all things Big Once-related by hittin them “Follow Me” links to the right of the page.

Now, for some news. The Red Bull Thre3style US Finals has been announced, and its all going down November 10th at Rain Nightclub at the Palms Hotel in lovely Las Motherfuckin Vegas. The event pages and promotion are coming soon, so much more on that later.

Now for a couple show announcements. I’m making my debut at the brand new Board Room nightclub this Saturday Sept 10th; my set is from 1:30-4. I have tons of new routines and remixes to try out, so I’m excited for this one. Later in the month my band Meat Number 5 is opening for Beardyman Sept 23rd at Double Door. If you don’t know Beardyman, youtube that shit. Here’s the link to the show right hurr, and a couple flyers below. Chuuch.
