The most interesting thing about Big Brother 28 right now is not necessarily who is in power. It is why the same players continue to benefit regardless of who is in power.

The house has spent weeks talking about breaking up the established power structure. Players have recognized that the biggest threats cannot be allowed to coast deep into the game. Alliances have formed specifically to challenge those players. Yet whenever someone finally gets the opportunity to do something about it, the target seems to shift somewhere else.

That is not simply bad luck. It is a pattern, and it says a lot about how this season is being played. The biggest players are being protected because everyone else is too focused on solving their immediate problems.

The house keeps choosing the easier target

Week 7 is a perfect example.

Dee had an opportunity to use her HOH to reshape the game, but her decision to name Mallory as the replacement nominee created another internal conflict rather than directly dismantling the larger power structure.

That does not automatically make Dee’s move a bad one. There can be legitimate strategic reasons for targeting Mallory. But it illustrates the larger problem facing the house: the players who are easiest to nominate are not always the players who are most dangerous.

The distinction matters.

Putting someone on the block who has damaged relationships with multiple people can feel like the safest move. There are fewer conversations to have, fewer promises to make and potentially fewer votes to worry about. Taking out a major power player is much harder.

That requires convincing people to abandon their existing relationships and accept the possibility that they could become the next target. In other words, the houseguests are repeatedly choosing short-term stability over long-term positioning. And the biggest players are benefiting from it.

Everyone wants to be the person who takes the shot, not the person who gets shot

There is another reason this keeps happening: nobody wants to be responsible for starting the war. If you take out a major player, you immediately become responsible for changing the structure of the game.

That sounds great when you are talking about it in the Diary Room. It is much less appealing when you realize that the person you just evicted had relationships with half the house. This is where the Big Brother 28 players appear to be getting stuck.

They recognize that the power structure is a problem, but they are reluctant to be the person who completely dismantles it. Instead, they chip away at the edges. The problem with that strategy is that the people at the center survive.

And every week they survive, their relationships become more valuable.

The alliance betrayals are actually helping the biggest threats

One of the defining characteristics of this season has been how frequently players turn on their own alliances. That has made the game unpredictable, but unpredictability does not necessarily benefit everyone equally. The constant alliance betrayals are actually creating a protective layer around the biggest players.

Think about what happens when an alliance falls apart. The members suddenly have to worry about one another. Someone who was supposed to be a number becomes a potential nominee. Someone who was supposed to be protected becomes expendable.

The focus shifts inward. That gives the established power players room to breathe. Instead of six or seven people coordinating a move against them, those six or seven people are suddenly negotiating with each other over who should go next.

It is the perfect environment for a strong social player.

Drew and Barrett could be a perfect example

The situation involving Drew and Barrett is particularly interesting because it shows how difficult it is to actually break the cycle. Rather than simply viewing the established power players as threats that need to be removed, there is a temptation to reconsider working with them.

Strategically, that can make sense. If you believe you can position yourself near the center of the house, working with a strong group could be the safest route.

But there is a major risk. If everyone keeps deciding that they can personally benefit from working with the biggest players, those players will never become vulnerable. That is how a power structure survives even when everyone inside the house claims to dislike it.

The Icons do not necessarily have to control the game

This is perhaps the most important distinction. The biggest players do not necessarily need to control every HOH. They do not need to win every Power of Veto. They do not even need everyone in the house to be loyal to them. They simply need other people to be more threatening.

That has happened repeatedly this season. A player wins HOH and suddenly has an individual problem to solve. An alliance begins to fracture and suddenly its members are more concerned about each other. Someone makes a big move and becomes the new threat.

Meanwhile, the established players wait. That is excellent positioning. It also explains why the power structure can look incredibly fragile one day and surprisingly secure the next.

But this protection cannot last forever

The danger for the biggest players is that the house is getting smaller. There are only so many people left to serve as shields, distractions and alternative targets. The houseguests are already running out of easy nominations.

At this point, someone will have to decide whether keeping a major threat around is actually worth the short-term benefit. That could be the moment Big Brother 28 finally sees the power structure truly collapse. Until then, the biggest players are going to keep benefiting from the same mistake everyone else keeps making: players are more willing to betray the people standing beside them than the people standing above them.

And that may ultimately be the defining strategic flaw of this season. The house knows who the biggest threats are. It just keeps finding reasons to let them survive.

Watching Drew and Barrett navigate Big Brother 28 alliances is enough to make you scream at the Feeds and throw yourself to the ground some days. It’s just maddening how limp these two can be but it’s not just them. FAP has enjoyed some quiet time for most of the season barring a few hairy moments but this week threw them into the middle of the Big Brother arena. Are they ready to do anything about it?

On Sunday night when Mallory and Melody learned of Dee’s plans to send Mallory to the Block as a renom they were enraged and committed to fighting back… Then on Monday they were just mostly annoyed and still kinda interested in pushing back, but maybe they’d do that later. So while the ladies talked about doing something it was even more frustrating with Barrett and Drew.

The pair was in Storage on Monday evening talking about their precarious situation between FAP and Crossovers. Drew told Barrett a few days ago he was committed to sticking with FAP, but now he’s thinking Crossovers is the right path. What?? Crossovers? Dee just put you on the Block and then renom’d Mallory, your close ally, to be on the Block with you. And you think the Vets are where your game strategy should lean? Arrggh!

Barrett says it feels like the Vets “are forcing our hand at every turn… There’s no way out.” Drew agrees, “there really is no way out.” Of course there is! Whichever 3 FAP (or it could be all 4) are here on Friday need to align with Yash, Taylor, and LaTrice to go after Dee and Devens. That’s your way out. Get rid of the “allies” who are “forcing your hand” and take control.

So why does wet-noodle Barrett want to stay with the Vets? “[There are] three shields ahead of us with them.” Nooo, you are the shields. Drew adds on “we’re actually in a pretty good spot.” Look at Drew on the Block. No one is going after the Vets. They’re not the shields, it’s you, ya dolt. And they’re not going after the other HGs, just look at Haley and Yash who are safely avoiding the Block this week.

And what would these two do if they did get power this week? Spoiler: it wouldn’t be to go after the Vets. Drew says if he gets HOH he would nominate “everyone not in Mosh Pit.” *thud* I just can’t. But don’t worry, Barrett agrees, “that’s all you can do, right? That’s what I’d do.” Sigh.

Mallory with Barrett on BB28 – Source: BBLF

FAP is done. Vets are going to skate to the end. The only HG who seems interested in doing something about it was Yash but then he took that $5K Bribe from Dee which means he can’t do anything against them until he gets HOH a third time this season. Maybe Taylor if she stays this week? I’d hope so, but I’m not sure she could rally the support she’d need to make it happen.

Speaking of Yash, he tried last night to talk with Drew about the Vets abusing his trust and using him, but that message is not getting through. Don’t hold your breath on hoping for FAP to come to the season’s rescue against the Vets’ stranglehold on power. Not going to happen. And nothing may change here, so just get ready for some disappointment if you’re looking for something to overturn the current trajectory of Big Brother 28 because it isn’t FAP and right now it can’t be Yash either.

The pool is narrowing for our weekly popularity polling now with just eleven Big Brother 28 Houseguests left in the season and they just keep dropping. So who ranked at the top and bottom for our readers this past week? Let’s take a look at the results.

Once again it’s Vets and FAP at the top but one missing from each set. The same top five HGs this round but just with a new order as we saw Drew up two spots and Dee down another. Angela is missing from the Vets at the top (she was down at #7) and Barrett from FAP (he was down at #10 – making the Bottom 3 list again this week). Devens again holds a mighty lead with a 15+ point gap over the second spot with Mallory & Drew tied with the exact same number of votes this week. Melody was just a few votes behind them too. Then we drop down another 5 points for Dee to round out the Top 5.

Top 5 Most Popular HGs – BB28 Week 6:

Devens (+0) 28.0%

Mallory (+0) 12.77%

Drew (+2) 12.77%

Melody (-1) 12.72%

Dee (-1) 7.6%

Caught in the middle this week was Taylor, Angela, Kamu, and Yash in that order. Kamu was voted out on Thursday so he’ll drop off the consideration for Active HGs this coming round and usually evicted HGs fade fast in the numbers.

That takes us down to the Bottom 3 Active Houseguests with Barrett once again in the #3 spot there while LaTrice fell two spots to be #2 from the bottom. And once again, Haley is “having a bad week” as the reigning champion for being the least popular Active HG. Imagine that.

Bottom 3 Active HGs – BB28 Week 6:

Barrett (+0) 2.4%

LaTrice (-2) 1.67%

Haley (+0) 1.22%

Monday’s Veto Meeting came and went without much fanfare leaving the FAP HGs in their usual passive state, waiting for slaughter on Thursday night. Talks with Barrett and Drew are taking them back to wanting to work with the Vets over FAP and I want to pull my hair out.

Overnight Yash tried to warn Drew how the Vets were using him and not respecting him, but that message doesn’t seem to get through. Maybe it’ll take Thursday’s eviction to get that through to him one way or the other.

Big Brother 28 Live Feed Highlights – Monday, August 24, 2026:

3:05 PM BBT – Barrett tells Melody that the Icons think they have more power in the house than they really do. They also suspect that Haley will join the Icons next week.

3:10 PM BBT – Mallory wonders if Dee wants her out more than she wants Taylor out. Barrett says not that Dee has said to him.

4:00 PM BBT – The HGs are all lounging out in the backyard getting some sun and enjoying the pool.

4:45 PM BBT – Melody is in the gym pretending that she is talking to her mom again. She is talking about how mad she is that Dee put Mallory up. She hopes she can start winning something soon.

4:55 PM BBT – Melody says that everyone in the house is on her hit list except for Mallory.

5:15 PM BBT – Drew walks into the gym. Melody tells him that they won’t vote him out (her and Mallory). He says over Taylor? She says over most people. She wonders if the Icons will switch up on Mallory. Drew doesn’t think so.

5:20 PM BBT – Drew says it would be dumb to keep Taylor. Melody says it was dumb to put Mallory on the block in the first place.

5:50 PM BBT – The Crossovers (minus Drew) are studying days and comps in the HOH room. Drew is still in the gym with Melody chatting.

6:20 PM BBT – Lala and Dee are chatting. Lala tells Dee that the foursome (FAP) seems real. Dee says she doesn’t care which one of them (Drew or Mallory) goes because breaking them up is great.

6:25 PM BBT – Mallory asks Angela just to let her know if she doesn’t have the votes to stay this week. Angela says she will but she knows either her or Drew will win the Block Buster.

6:55 PM BBT – Drew tells Barrett that a couple of nights ago he thought FAP was the way to go for them, now he thinks it’s the Crossovers. Barrett says the Icons are forcing their hand.

7:45 PM BBT – Haley and Mallory are talking about how people in the house always lie about their votes. Mallory says she would rather know if she’s going. Haley tells her she will let her know if she hears anything.

8:35 PM BBT – Mallory gets emotional talking to Melody about not knowing what to say in her speech if she is sitting next to Drew.

8:40 PM BBT – Devens and Lala are checking in. Devens tells Lala if he won HOH next week, she wouldn’t see the block. Lala says they just need to break up the four (FAP). Devens says he talked to Taylor and she had a really good pitch.

9:10 PM BBT – Drew tells Barrett that it sounds like Haley would rather get Taylor out this week. Barrett is relieved to hear this.

9:45 PM BBT – HGs lounging in the backyard.

10:10 PM BBT – Angela and Haley talking numbers in the game. Haley says they have their four (with Dee & Devens) plus Barrett and Drew are with them, so they’re going to be able to control the votes.

10:40 PM BBT – HGs got the weekly camera/phone visit.

11:10 PM BBT – Mallory worries to Melody and Barrett that Yash might try to talk Drew into voting her out if he’s off the Block on Thursday. Melody thinks Drew would tell them if Yash was trying that.

11:20 PM BBT – Melody is upset that they fell for the Vets’ lies. Barrett isn’t sure Kamu was telling them the truth though. Mallory says Dee must be in an alliance with Yash and Haley (to have not renom’d either of them).

11:30 PM BBT – Yash is warning Drew that the Vets keep doing him dirty, using him like bait then reeling him back in. Yash tells Drew he needs to have a spine because he’s well liked but not respected.

11:40 PM BBT – Some of the HGs are heading off to bed.

12:00 AM BBT – Barrett talking about American Idol and watching it back in the day. Melody and Mallory never saw it.

12:40 AM BBT – Mallory suspects Dee made a deal with Haley and Yash that they vote how she wants them she won’t renom them.

12:55 AM BBT – Melody tells Drew she doesn’t trust the Vets to rely on their votes. She wants to make sure after he wins BBBB that they have plenty of votes to keep Mallory over Taylor.

2:00 AM BBT – After lots of chatting Melody and Drew headed to bed with a hug.

Mallory threatened to go after the Vets with this betrayal but so far she has done very little campaigning and mostly just griping without action. At this point FAP is just hoping for a lucky outcome at the Block Buster to keep their numbers together.

The F.A.P alliance faced its biggest obstacle of the season thus far with two of the members on the block. The week started with Drew as the target, and now it looks like Mallory is gone unless she wins the BB Block Buster.

The House seems to want to keep Drew, but we could see a shift by Thursday. For now, the houseguests spent most of their day enjoying the backyard and lounging.

8:07 AM BBT- Houseguests wake for the day.

8:35 AM BBT – Dee and LaTrice talk. LaTrice asks Dee for advice on Devens, because she knows she needs to gain his trust. Dee tells LaTrice that her new target is Mallory. LaTrice warns Dee to be careful with Barrett because he’s well liked and can win competitions.

9:14 AM BBT – Drew tells Devens that they need to just reenforce Dee’s nomination decision, because she’s not changing it. They need to encourage Mallory to win the competition. They discuss the potential of Mallory nominating him if she wins Head of Household.

9:22 AM BBT – Yash and Barrett discuss how upsetting it is that Mallory is the one going up.

9:29 AM BBT – Drew and Devens discuss the possibility of Mallory coming after the vets because of Dee’s move. Devens says that doesn’t make him want to keep her in the game. Devens also points out that Mallory may be a threat in the game. He doesn’t know if Taylor is one.

10:00 AM BBT – Devens fills Dee in on his meeting with Drew. Devens says that he’s already setting up the idea of going after Mallory instead of Taylor. Dee says she hopes Mallory doesn’t win the BB Block Buster.

10:32 PM BBT – LaTrice and Barrett discuss last week’s vote. She now knows she’s dispensable and underestimated by everyone. She wants to form something. He says he would be down to work with her and apologize for the nomination ceremony.

10:46 PM BBT – Dee checks on Barrett. She says it’s okay if he’s sad about Mallory.

10:53 AM BBT – Dee tells Devens that she doesn’t think Barrett is mad at her. He’s just sad. She thinks he’s super loyal. They talk about planning for double evictions and future evictions down the line. They also discuss Mallory being nominated and the target this week.

11:16 AM BBT – Mallory and Barrett have a talk about his discussions with Dee and LaTrice. He says that his talk with Dee didn’t change her mind. He mentions how LaTrice wanted clarification on why no one stood up for her or was on her side.

1135 AM BBT – Mallory and Melody discuss the possibility of the votes flipping against Mallory because she’s seen as a bigger threat. She points out that she hasn’t won a competition in awhile.

12:11 PM BBT – Feeds go down for the Power of Veto Ceremony.

1:22 PM BBT – Feeds return. LaTrice used the Veto. Dee named Mallory as her replacement.

1:27 PM BBT – Mallory punches a pillow.

1:28 PM BBT – Devens tells Drew that he’s more scared of Mallory than Taylor as a competitor.

1:29 PM BBT – Drew, Mallory, and Devens joke about Drew tackling Taylor during the BB Block Buster, so that she can’t win it.

1:30 PM BBT – Melody tells Barrett her fears that everyone changes their mind and votes out Mallory. They count the potential votes this week. Barrett thinks they would probably not get rid of Drew, but knows Mallory is a possibility. They need Mallory to win the BB Block Buster.

1:32 PM BBT – LaTrice lets Taylor know that Dee told her that Mallory is the target. She wants to break up the four.

1:35 PM BBT – Melody and Mallory talk about believing that any deal Yash made with Dee being fake because he rejected the $5,000 when she offered it last time. They think he will still go after the vets.

1:42 PM BBT – Mallory suggests a plan to Melody that Mallory plays on Angela’s emotions tonight. This would ensure that she doesn’t vote her out this week. Mallory wants to claim that she will wants the Mosh Pit to work and not target Dee. Mallory wants to nominate Dee next week and reject any money offers.

Despite today being a major day in the Big Brother house, not much happened. Everyone knew that Mallory would find herself on the block, so there wasn’t much of a rejection. They got those emotions out on Sunday. Now all the nominees can do all week is wait and see if they survive the block.

For the second straight week, the Big Brother 28 house has proven that having power and actually being able to control the game are two very different things.

Dee entered Week 7 in an excellent position. After watching Yash’s HOH reign blow up when Devens used the Diamond Power of Veto to save her and send Kamu to the block instead, Dee won Head of Household and immediately had another opportunity to shape the game. She nominated Drew, Lala and Taylor, putting multiple players outside the core of the Icons in danger.

Then Lala won the Power of Veto.

That forced Dee to make a decision, and she ultimately followed through with the plan that had been circulating in the house. At the Veto Ceremony, Lala used the Power of Veto on herself and Dee named Mallory as the replacement nominee.

On paper, that is a pretty aggressive move.

Mallory is part of the Mosh Pit, the large majority alliance that was formed just last week following Devens’ Diamond Power of Veto play. The alliance was supposed to give the Icons and their closest allies a numbers advantage moving forward. Instead, one of its own members is now on the block.

And that brings us to one of the strangest themes of Big Brother 28: These houseguests cannot seem to stop turning on their own alliances.

It has happened over and over again.

The Mosh Pit itself barely had time to get comfortable before its members started looking at one another as potential targets. Big Brother Network reported that Dee was already considering turning on the alliance almost immediately after it formed, with Mallory becoming a potential target depending on how the veto played out.

That is hardly an isolated incident.

The season has been filled with players creating alliances for protection, only to immediately start figuring out how to get rid of the people sitting beside them. Players have repeatedly voted against supposed allies, shared information that was supposed to stay secret and formed new groups with people they had just been targeting.

The result is a house where alliances seem to have an expiration date measured in days rather than weeks. And yet, somehow, the Icons keep benefiting from it. That is the part that makes this week so fascinating. Or is it frustrating? It’s one of the F words.

The Mosh Pit was supposed to be a way for the majority to consolidate power. Instead, the group is already showing cracks, with Melody and Mallory reportedly feeling like they were brought into the alliance more for numbers than genuine influence.

Now Mallory is sitting on the block. If she goes home, the Icons will have once again helped eliminate someone outside their core while maintaining their own safety. If she survives, she has every reason to question whether continuing to work with the Mosh Pit is worth it. Either way, the alliance takes another hit.

But the bigger problem for everyone else is that the Icons continue to be protected no matter how much the house turns on itself. Look at the last two weeks.

Yash won HOH and took a shot at the Icons by nominating Dee, Angela and Haley. That should have been the week when the power structure finally cracked. Instead, Devens’ Diamond Power of Veto saved Dee and put Kamu in her place. Kamu ultimately went home, and the Icons survived.

Then Dee won HOH. Now she has used that power to put another non-Icon player in danger.

It is almost comical at this point. Every time someone thinks they have finally found an opportunity to take control of the game, the target somehow shifts back toward somebody outside the core power structure.

That does not mean the Icons are playing a flawless game. In fact, their aggressive tactics are creating plenty of enemies. Their relationships with the other players are becoming increasingly complicated, and the constant shifting of alliances could eventually come back to bite them. But for now, it is working.

The biggest mistake the rest of the house may be making is assuming that because the alliances are changing, the power structure is changing with them.It isn’t. The names of the alliances may change. The people sitting in them may change. Players may turn on one another almost immediately after promising to work together.

But the Icons continue to find themselves on the right side of those changes. That is why Dee’s decision to nominate Mallory is so important. It is another example of a houseguest using power to weaken someone who was supposed to be part of the same majority rather than taking a direct shot at the players who have been running the game.

At some point, somebody is going to have to break that cycle. Otherwise, Big Brother 28 can continue forming new alliances, destroying old ones and blindsiding supposed allies every single week. The power structure may look completely different from one Monday to the next.

But if the same people keep being protected, does the structure really change at all? For now, the answer appears to be no.

The alliances are falling apart. The Icons are still standing. But one thing they seem to be forgetting about is jury management. Just ask this week’s veto host, Paul.
