After all, they have been here for a very long time. If anyone had seen them, it should've been them.

Now, I don't claim to be any authority on Native Americans. In fact, what I do know of them, one could put on one sheet of paper. But I do have an interest and from time to time I read about them and of their way of life of long ago. I happened to come across a book about the Koyukon Tribe of Alaska about seven or eight years ago, and even then it was 20 years old. It was called 'Make Prayers to the Raven' by Richard K. Nelson (1983). Now this was not a Bigfoot book. it's a book about the traditions and cultures of the Koyukon people.

They told the author what their views are of the bear, crows, ravens and every other creature that lives in the woods. They also told him of the 'Woodsmen". In their language it's called Nik'inla'eena' or, the sneak. I'll type a few excerpts from the book. 'A human creature that occupies the wildlands and remains almost totally alien from society..Woodsmen are real as any other inhabitant of the Koyukon environment, but they are extremely shy and quick to vanish when people come near...Occasionally, they harass people of steal from them, but they are not a great danger...They are especially interesting as a bridge across the narrow gap between humans and animals.' They go on to say that their bodies are covered with short hair and can run very fast. They throw things unseen from the receiver. I could go on and on about the descriptions and behavior, but I'd run out of space here.

I was having a er..couple of cups of coffee with a member of the Penobscott Tribe of Indian Island, Maine a decade ago. I mentioned Bigfoot to him. He said, "Oh yeah, the Elders sometimes talk of it, but we have our own name for it." He told me the name it's called in his language, but I have long since forgot it.

The point I'm trying to make here is, how do the Koyukons know and describe the same animal as we'll say tribes in the Northwest, Southwest, Northeast and Southeast of here in our part of the States? It's not like one of the Koyukons or Penobscotts hopped a flight out to the Yakama tribe in the Northwest and learned about Bigfoot. And why does every indian tribe have their own names for them? They surely know about the same creature.

If you're interested in learning more about the names of these creatures and what they're called by the tribes that know about them, there's an excellent site with the list of them provided by Kyle Mizokami, Henry Fronzoni and Jeff Glickman and you can find it here: http://sasquatchresearch.net/sassynames.html

Okay folks, see you all next Sunday.
Comments? I'm sure there are going to be some people who will disagree with me. However, in my opinion of Bigfoot is that he's not an intellectual. I really wanted to say stupid, but being in a rather magnanimous mood today, intellectually wanting might be a better phrase.

I have many reasons for saying this, but first let me put forth the fact that I am no genius myself so I'm not putting down Bigfoot because I feel superior. There are schools out there that have my report cards framed and placed on the walls of the Principals' offices as a warning to all new teachers that they would at sometime be exposed to people like me. I graduated from high school simply because they thought I was a lost cause and they needed to get rid of me. But being magnanimous, it's really unfair of me to compare myself with Bigfoot, so let's look at a few examples of Bigfoot vs. Caveman.

Cavemen made fire. There are no records of Bigfoot making fire. Cavemen wore clothes (Skins).
There are no sightings of Bigfoot wearing skins. Cavemen had shelters from the weather. Bigfoot might have teepees, but c'mon, look at them! They wouldn't hold back a drop of rain nor a gust of wind. Cavemen drew pictures on cave walls. Bigfoot wouldn't know a charred stick from a carrot. Cavemen had weapons. Bigfoot hunts with his own two hands even though all the makings of weapons are all around them. I'm sure that you the reader could think of others.

It seems to me that Bigfoot has plenty of think time on his hands and it also seems to me that he could use this time to think about improving his lot in life. That is, IF he can actually think of things other than suppertime coming up.

Now let's go to sightings. Here's just a few examples. People have decribed them as walking right in front of their vehicle without even turning the heads and looking at them. Are they deaf? No peripheral vision? People have described them as swaying from side to side while standing still. Do they have some kind of inner music going on there? No, I don't think so. They have been seen just walking around aimlessly. What, no place to go? But I will say in their defense that they have been seen and described as having an intelligent look on their face, however, if you look at my picture on the right side of the page and if you knew what I knew, you would change your opinion of what intelligence is.

Just once, I'd like to read a sighting from someone that sort of goes like this: "I was canoeing down Mudflat Creek and when I rounded a bend, there was Bigfoot. He looked intellectually wanting. He had his back against a tree and his cane pole fishing rod on his knee and a mess of trout on a wire between two forked sticks. It even looked like he had a bottle of beer next to him. When he saw me, he pulled in his line, grabbed his line of fish and off he went." Then and only then, would I compare him to me!

Okay Gang, thanks for dropping by and see you next Sunday.
Click comments if you have any, I do read them when they're posted.
Go over to the right and subscribed by email if you'd like.
Bob and Mike's email is BigfootQuest@gmail.com
Thank you for subscribing to Bigfoot Quest Blogs.

Bob Gimlin

Today, I think I'll write a short blog about someone we've all heard about. Anyone who has seen the Patterson-Gimlin film knows of him. His name is Bob Gimlin.

A couple of weeks ago, Abe Del Rio (Elusive1) asked me if I would be a guest co-host on his MN.BRT Bigfoot show that airs on Blog Talk Radio for the month of February. At the time, I didn't know who he would have on as guests, not did it matter to me. He asked, I accepted. Then I found out that the third week's guest was going to be Bob Gimlin. Anyhing but winning the lottery was not going to keep me away from this show. Both Mike Killen and I had heard that Bob doesn't do Bigfoot shows, otherwise we would have asked him to do our show, but that silver tongued Del Rio had somehow convinced Bob to come on his show, (darn!).

Prior to the show, I mentally had a list of all the questions that I would ask him. I mean, he was there! He was one of only two people that saw and filmed this creature that changed the bigfoot Community at the time. This film has been scrutinized by scientist and lay people alike from all over the world and still is to this day. And, I would get to talk with him.

The first thing that surprised me is, this man is 79 years old and still ropes and rides. Hmm, I would be really grateful if I could reach that age, in a wheelchair while being forced fed and this man is still breaking horses! The second thing is, with all the notoriety that this person has received over the last 40 years, this quiet, unassuming man could be the guy next door.

This was a great interview. Bob gave a step by step description of the encounter. he relates that he never made a dime out of it. His marriage was in trouble for a while because he had been hounded by the media all these years. And all because, as he states also, he was just doing Roger Patterson a favor on going with him on this trip. He calls a 'creek' a 'crick' and talks of wilderness horseback trips like you and I would describe driving to the corner store for milk and bread.

My long list of questions went out the window however. because the chatroom was crawling with questions, I had to settle for 2 or 3 for myself. I did ask him what his very first thought was that he had when he saw the creature? His answer was, 'Why, it's real!" This statement is much bigger than it's three small words because prior to going on this trip, he did not believe in any creature as Bigfoot! There were many questions of this sort and I can't recount them here. If you haven't heard this show already and have an interest in a first hand account of this sighting, then I would strongly urge you to go and give it a listen. Abe and his co-host Evie have an exceptionally good show on Friday nights at 9:00 P.M. Eastern and it can be found here www.Blogtalkradio.com/MN.BRT

Oh, by the way, maybe I will get in the questions that I missed. Mike Killen and I will be at the Eastern Ohio Bigfoot Investigation Center conference on May 14-16 and it just so happens that Bob Gimlin will also be there. "Hi Mr. Gimlin, remember me? I just have 30 to 40 questions to ask you. You don't mind, do you?

Okay folks, out of time. Out of space. See you all next weekend.
Thank you for subscribing to Bigfoot Quest Blogs.

Unknown Primates

After dinner last evening, I decided to get on the internet for awhile. I wanted to Google 'Primate' just in case Mike Killen and I ever had Jane Goodall on as a guest on the show. To hold at least a somewhat intelligent conversation with a Scientist, one needs to do a little homework. The first Google offering was 'Wikipedia' and so I clicked on that one. I quickly scanned the page and there was a lot of information to be read on primates. I noticed that there were lots of statistics also. I love statistics. And so I started in.

I woke up about an hour later with my head on my chest, a little spittle in the corner of my mouth and a stiff neck. I should have realized that I can't digest statistics while in the process of digesting an evenings meal. The two just don't go together. But I did manage to absorb two facts. Humans are listed in the 'Great Apes' category which surprised me because I know some people that I thought are more in the 'Gibbons' group. Also, that there are 424 species of primates or 658 including subspecies. If scientist know and have studied each of these primates, they must have at least taken a DNA sample. Having decided at this point that we'll probibly never have the chance to have Ms. Goodall on the show anyway and at the moment losing my interest in statistics, I clicked off of Wikipedia. I'll get back to it at a later time I promised myself.

But the thought remained about DNA sampling. If all these primates are neatly packaged by categories, and may have been DNA sequenced, what about the results given for submitted hair and scat samples by Bigfoot researchers? Unknown primate is given. It seems to me and logic might back me up, that there's another primate running around not categorized yet. I think we all know that!

Google also told me that in 2005, at least one group of researchers had a million bucks to find and study the Ivory Billed Woodpecker that was supposedly exinct for 60 years. Now was that money from Government grants or donations, I don't know, but it seems that there should be some cash laying around in some scientific foundation or other to find and study Bigfoot.

However, I think that that is where we, the Bigfoot Community, are missing out. We should lose the well known names of these creatures, but keep the descriptions. People are hesitant about donating money to research Bigfoot, but may dig deep into their foundation funds to try to find an Unknown Primate. But we need to keep in mind that like anything else, to get something, we may have to lose something. We have to give up calling these creatures Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Skunkape, Yeti, Yowie, Boogers (yech) and any other name that has come under skeptic attack and refer them only as 'Unknown Primate'. But hey, a rose by any other name is still a rose!

Our show would become 'The Unknown Primate Quest Show'. Billy Willard's show would become 'Unknown Primate Watch Show'. Abe Del Rio's would be 'MN.UPRT Show' and other shows too numerous to list here would also have to follow suit. Sightings would have to be reported as "ABYZ T.V. reporting live here in Swampview Georgia. Mr. Jones, tell us about your Bigfoot sighting yesturday." " Well, I didn't see a Bigfoot, those things aren't real. What I did see was a 7 foot hairy Unknown Primate over yonder there."

I could suggest other examples, but I'm out of time and space folks. The doorbell. I know who it is. I always know who is ringing the bell on Wednesday and Saturday nights. It's Boyd. It tells me that our 'Bigfoot Club' is about to start and Boyd is always the first to arrive. We've been meeting here for the last two years and we get together to discuss whatever Bigfoot news is out there. The meeting room is conveniently in my cellar. You'll notice that I didn't say basement, because a basement is a place that one could have an actual room with a couch and recliner, maybe a pool table and T.V. versus a cellar where all my junk is stored. I affectionately call my cellar, 'Bob's Bar and Grill'. I even built what could be called a bar if one stood back far enough and I managed to squeeze it in between my table saw and wood planer. However, it does have an outdoorsy feel to it because of all my hunting and fishing stuff neatly piled up where ever I happened to drop it.

I keep the bar well stocked with a six pack of Blatz beer which nobody ever drinks. It's probibly due to the fact that it's so hard to find and no one wants me to go to the trouble of trying to find more. I do have some 'Moxie' for the hard drinkers and some other soft drinks for the non-drinkers. I kept the 'grill' part of the name in there because I do serve chips. I just view it as a technicality.

I hollar out "Come in Boyd, I know it's you!" Boyd comes through the door, "H-h-h-hey B-B-Bob! I h-h-hope e-e-everybody's here!" "No Boyd" I say, "You're the first one here. Why don't you go downstairs until the others arrive. Should be in about fifteen minutes. You can smoke four to five cigarettes until then." V-v-very f-funny Bob. Y-Y-you know I don't want to s-s-s-sit down there by m-m-myself. I'll stay h-h-here with y-y-you and keep you c-c-company."

There was a time that Boyd was not a chainsmoking, paranoid, nervous wreck. He was your normal, well adjusted, Podiatrist by profession guy. That was until I got that phone call. "B-B-Bob! I s-s-saw one! I s-s-saw one! I s-s-saw one up on Slackjaw m-m-m-mountain!" I said, "Boyd, is this a joke?" Boyd said, B-B-Bob, no! I w-w-was by myself and a B-B-Bigfoot stepped out f-f-from behind a t-t-tree!" Boyd's wife tells me he's doing better lately now that he's seeing a therapist.

Ding Dong. It's Pappy. Pappy looks like a younger version of the late, great singer Pavarotti, but not as big. He can't sing a note, but can hum a great Yankee Doodle. "Boyd, Pappys here, he'll go downstairs with you."

Ding Dong. "Hey guys." It's the fourth and fifth members, C.J. and Stonehall. The Wednesday and Saturday time slots are perfect for C.J.. Wednesday because it's the midweek do-nothing day and Saturday is date night so when one of his many lady friends asks him out, he can beg off saying he has a important prior engagement. Stonehall is the quiet one of the group. being a person of few words, he sits and takes plenty of notes. Because nobody ever sees these notes, I'm thinking that he's using them for his own website.

Ding Dong. Our sixth member, Irishman. "Bob, you know I have to be out of here in plenty of time to be home before ten o'clock. The wife'll be calling here if I'm not. so promise me you'll let me know when it's time!"

A third of the way through the meeting, Ding Dong. It's Caryn. "Sorry for being a little late Bob, but I had to finish my blog page and catch the last of the "Glen Beck' show. I'l just catch what I missed on archives."

Archives? We don't record these meetings! I'll have to pay closer attention to that broach pin that Caryn always wears.

Okay Folks, see you all next weekend. One is an experienced researcher and the other is not. A scream is heard in the area. "Grrraaahhheeeiiii!" "Zak, did you hear that? What in the world WAS that?" Zak turns to him with a knowing smile and says, "that my good buddy, was a Bigfoot scream! I've heard recordings of them before on the internet." "Great Zak, but I'm outta here! See you back at the car."

Like Zak, I've heard a good many recordings on the internet too. I think they are real because I hear some Forest Rangers on the Bigfoot shows on T.V. say they don't have a clue to what is making the scream.

Researchers go out in the woods armed with all kinds of recorders. Some of this equipment is probibly way out of my price range. However, they all do what they're supposed to do. Just some better than others. They record or try to record Bigfoot screams. My problem is, I don't see what they are screaming about. I mean, are they screaming out "Zak, take your good buddy and get off my land!" Or are they communicating with another of their kind, "Lounga, be careful, they's a couple more of 'em here today!" It would be nice if we knew whether it was directed at us or their friends and family.

The other day while out driving, I heard another driver scream at me, "Hey you idiot, what the ****'s the matter with you, you ********!" All I did was turn right with my turn signal saying left. I see other people doing that all the time. I figured I could do it once in a while. However, the other driver didn't bother me a bit. You see, heh, heh, people have been yelling at me all my life. My mother, many bosses, friends and so forth and using about the same phrase as just stated above. In each case, I knew there would be no hurt heading towards my body. Well, my mother would have been the exception.

Now on the other hand, as a kid going to Saturday's theater matinee featuring Tarzan, before he went off to rescue either Boy or Jane from an evil gang of animal poachers, he would let out this blood curdling scream. I took the scream as, "I mean business and I'm definetely gonna put some hurt on somebody's body!" You'd see the lions, tigers and gorillas running for their lives, even though all three were not from the same place. So I guess his scream was pretty loud and terrifying. Anyway, those movies taught me at a young age that whenever you hear a loud and terrifying scream in the woods and you might think it's Bigfoot, then I would assume that it's not directed at his friends or family and my advice is to do as Zaks good buddy said, "I'm outta here and I'll see you back at the car!"

I usually don't sign these blogs because I can always accuse my co-host of writing them.
Okay gang, see you all next weekend.
Comments?, click 'comments'.
Subscribe? "Why Lounga, how nice of you to come by and see me, but I really don't need a thing right now. You're such a good boy for thinking of me though." "Grandma, I'm all grown up now, I have seventeen winters!" "Yes honey, but at my age, you'll always be my little boy. Now sit down on one of these stumps and I'll fix you some water and some nice juicy grubs. I know they're your favorites and they're freshly dug."

"Grandma, I need to ask you something. A couple of weeks ago, I saw two of those creatures that Grandpa told me to stay away from. And I...say, these grubs ARE good, anyway, one of them pointed and put a small box up to it's face when it was looking at me. Did anything like that happen to you?"

"Well, let me think back a bit. Hmm, yes, I do recall something like that many, many winters ago. I was young then and I was on my way to meet your Grandpa. Course, he wasn't your Grandpa at the time, but I was sort of sweet on him at the time. We had plans to go to the monthly gathering of our kind and I was late and I didn't want him to worry, so I moved along best I could.

I knew a shortcut across an old creek bed. As I approached it, I also saw two of these creatures and they were on top of those animals that they ride with another animal trailing along behind. Silly isn't it? Creatures riding animals, hah! I don't think it's right that one kind of an animal should ride another kind of animal and that..."Grandma, you were talking about meeting the creatures?" "Huh? Oh yes, anyway, they saw me and then all heck broke out. I've seen these creature before and so as I walked, I watched them out of the corner of my eye. One hollered to the other and pointed and then his animal jumped up and then flopped over on him on the ground. The other tried to hold on to his animal and had to get off. The third animal that was trailing behind, well he just hightailed it out of there.

The one on the ground got out from under his animal and was trying to grab something from this thing that was tied around the middle of his animal. It turned out to be one of those small boxes that you said your creature had. he put this box up to his face and started to run in my direction. The other creature, now off of his animal, was coming toward me also and had a bang stick with him that he pointed at me, but then put it towards the ground. About now, I had had enough of their antics and I gave them one of my looks. You know, the one that says, I'm in a hurry and don't make me stop because if I do, someone was going to be very sorry! I walked on up a hill and further on sat down on a stump to see if they were following me. When I didn't see them, I then went to see Grandpa.

The next day, I brought Grandpa back to where this all happened and, sakes alive, there were the creatures again. We hid in some bushes and watch them awhile. They were pouring stuff into my footprints and after sitting on some stumps for a time, they'd take the stuff out of the footprints and take them away. Now, whatever for, I have no idea. I tell you Lounga, they are the strangest creatures that I ever did see and Grandpa is right, stay away from them." "Okay Grandma, thanks for telling me that story. I thought maybe that it was just me they do that to. I have to go now, but you know what? You still remember that time, but I'll bet that incident has been forgotten many, many winters ago by them creatures and their kind!"

"Okay Lounga dear, make sure you come back real soon and tell your sister that Grandma Pahty sends her love!

Okay folks, see you next weekend. I used to have other hobbies. I enjoyed fooling around with my piano, making jigsaw puzzles, making furniture in my workshop, blankly staring off into space. but that was before discovering the hobby of Bigfoot. However, I've found that it takes up more than just my spare time. There are so many variables in the Bigfoot hobby (listening to internet radio shows, searching out websites, reading sighting reports, etc.) that it requires sacrificing other more important things that spouses want done like taking out the trash, fixing a broken window, painting the garage and all that other stuff that I anxiously look forward to.

Studies have shown that a person lives longer and has a happier frame of mind in general when they have a hobby. So it very important to indulge in it as much as they can get away with. The secret is, to show to those who are not into Bigfoot that it's not only a hobby, but what you are doing is gathering valuable information that you can use at some unknown future time and for some yet unknown future reason. Here's a couple of examples for those who are just starting out in it.

Spouse: "Honey, you'r not going to spend all weekend on that computer are you? You promised to go shopping with me!"
Me: "No, no dear. But I have to listen to the Bigfoot Quest radio show on archives. The guest was supposed to reveal the truth about the existance of Bigfoot on this past week's show and I missed it. It's only ninety minutes. But then I have to listen to a couple of other shows so I can report back to my Bigfoot club group. You know, the one that meets a couple of times a week! I didn't want to accept this assignment, but the members made me. They said something about it was important to their longer life and a happier frame of mind."

Spouse: "Bob, don't tell me that you're intending to go camping again this weekend. This is the third time this month and you know you've got to fix that leak in the bathroom!"
Me: " Camping? Helen, this is not camping. I can see where you might call this camping. Anyone who doesn't have a Bigfoot hobby would call this camping. But in actuality, it's err, research. Yeah, research is what it is. Those of us who aspire to discover a real live Bigfoot creature and dare I say it, maybe capture one of them alive for science, call these trips expeditions. It's very important that I go on these camping, I mean expeditions. For research you see. By the way, when you go out, could you pick up some steaks. I'd do it myself, but I have to fill the beer cooler and dig out the fishing poles from the garage. I told the gang down at the Bigfoot club that I'd bring this stuff for when there's a lull in our, ah, expeditioning."

Yeah, a Bigfoot hobby is great. But be forewarned if your just starting out in this endeavor. A bigfoot hobby is not for everyone. Although there are many thousands of Bigfooters as we call ourselves, some of your personal friends might look at you a little funny, like when they learn of your new hobby. here's a little exchange between myself and a long time friend who I just happened to bump into the other day at Walmarts.

Me: "Hey Jack, long time no see! What's it been, two years?"
Jack: "Been about that I guess. Your looking great! what've you been up to?"
Me: "Well, I've been involved in my new hobby. It's been great for my happier frame of mind."
Jack: "New hobby? What's it about?"
Me: "Bigfoot! It's real you know! And, it takes up all my spare time. I've also been doing a radio show on it for the last two years with a guy from New York called Mike Killen. Want to hear about it?"
Jack: "Huh? Bigfoot? Bigfoot? I just remembered that I have a dentist appointment. I gotta go. I'll give you a call one of these days."

Okay, I gotta go too, see you all next weekend. And for those of a differant faith, a great holiday also. I was a little disappointed this Christmas though. I usually get a box of coal and I thought this year would be differant, but, at least the box was smaller. I really have to remember to be good in the future.

The other night, I went outside on the back porch to get a breath of fresh air and a cigarette (cough, cough). I always cough when I do that, it must be the fresh air. Anyway, it was about 15 degrees out and the wind was howling making it less than zero with the wind chill. I stood there thinking about what a terrible night it is. I also thought of Bigfoot.

How in the world does Bigfoot survive in weather like this? Someone would naturally answer the question as, just like any other animal in the woods! Yes and no, because there are other factors involved here. Animals are supposed to keep warm because of their fur. Always have and always will. But Bigfoot has hair and is at a huge disadvantage, right?

Being a virgo and always having to have my facts right, prior to writing this I went on the internet to research hair versus fur. There was all kinds of fun facts there. First of all, hair and fur are the same. The difference I guess, if any, would be that when it's thick, it's called fur and when it's thin it's hair. The thick stuff has a double composition made up of primary and secondary layers. The thin stuff is like the hay we all have (or don't) on the top of our heads. My own head is leaning towards 'don't'. In the case of animals having the two layers, the undercoat is mainly for warmth according to season. We (primates) don't have the secondary or rather the undercoat to add to our warmth, therefore, it would get a little chilly without the added benefit of clothing or animal skins on our backs.

Now, I can see how a deer keeps warm. According to the book, The Deer of North America, deer have approx. 5,000 hairs to the square inch. I thought at one time that this figure was in error as it seemed to be a lot of hair in so small a place. I actually had it in my head that I was going to personally count them myself one day, however, I then decided that a nap would be more appropriate.

A human with a good mop of hair believe it or not, is about 700 hairs to the square inch. Who knows about Bigfoot! However, when I take a pencil, many sheets of paper, an eraser and calculator, I figure if Bigfoot is anything like us, he's about 4300 hairs short of a deer. I suppose with enough food, it's great size and bulk, Bigfoot would be able to generate the heat needed to survive in really cold temperatures. I have a friend in the State of Maine who spent his entire life in the woods as a woodcutter. He's a really big guy and tough as they come when it matters. In all the 20+ years that I've known him, he's never worn a coat. So, maybe Bigfoot doesn't need one also.

That's it folks, out of time and space. See you all next weekend. I need to go out to the back porch and have a, err, breath of fresh air.

Comments? click on comments.
Want to subscribe to these blogs? Wha? It's morning already? Boy, my head really hurts. I guess I had too many of those formenting apples last night. I knew when I went over to that farmer's orchard that this was going to happen. I should have quit after the first dozen. I'm not ever gonna do that again. Let's see now, the last thing I remember was, my girlfriend Singo was calling me on a tree with her usual three knocks and quickly followed by another one. I wasn't about to answer her. She's always calling me when she thinks I'm having a good time.

Okay, tme to get up and get going. Kind of chilly this morning and I almost froze last night. This teepee could use a lot of work. I don't know why, but, everytime I put one of these together, I get the limbs intertwined right, but then there seems to be a blank spot in my head on how to finish it. Grandpa Grong told me that his Grandpa learned it from the Indians. However, some details must have been lost somewhere through time I guess. What I need is a cave, but our leader, old man Mwala has the only one in these mountains. I'll take it from him someday, but it'll be awhile. he's old, but can still take care of himself. besides, he don't like me much and I try to keep some distance from him.

Let's see. First, I need to get something to eat, I'm starved. Crawfish down in the stream might do it. It hasn't rained for awhile and the streams been running low and if I'm lucky, maybe a trout or two. Course, there's always the last of the berries on the other side of the ridge if the bears haven't got them yet. With this headache, I can't bring myself to chasing down a deer. Maybe later in the day. But for now, the stream is about an hours' walk and the ridge is at least two. Well, might as well get started.

The stream is just on the bottom of this hill. Oh, oh. What the heck is that movement through the trees ahead. Looks like two of those small ugly creatures that sort of look like me, but their skin is funny somehow. Their hair on their bodies are differant colors like I see on flowers. I've seen these creatures before. They make strange noises when their mouths move. Sometimes, I have looked through holes in their caves and when they see me, they scream very loud which makes me leave real quick. These creatures make me curious, but also make me afraid as Grandpa Grong told me that sometimes they carry sticks that make a loud noise and they can hurt me. He said that they are very dangerous and I should never get close to them. I'll just stand here by this tree and maybe they'll pass by without seeing me. Oh no! They stopped and are now looking right at me and pointing with their fingers. One of them is bringing a small box up to it's face. Maybe it's trying to hide it's face, but I can still see it. Something tells me that that small box is not a good thing. I'm going to walk away in the opposite direction and keep the tree between them and myself. Thank Heavens I listened to Grandpa Grong. With these creatures, you never can be too careful.

Sometimes at night when I'm with my friends, Agwal and Tanid, and we're just hanging out at one of our many stone formation meeting places, stories are passed around about these creatures. I'm telling you, it's hard falling asleep afterwards without looking around wondering if they're just on the outskirts of the woods watching us.

Although I'm afraid of these creatures, it is a lot of fun sneaking around at night when they're sleeping on the ground in the warm weather. I always get a laugh when I pay them back and scream out and they go running to those strange things that they get into that stinks and makes noises and moves real fast. Also, when I'm really bored, I'll crouch down at night beside those hard black paths and when they come by in those strange things, I'll stand up and watch them go even faster. One laugh after another.

Now then, I think I'll give Singo a call. She must have calmed down by now.

Comments? Why do scientist always want to hang a fancy name onto something while a simple name would do? Dactyloscopy means fingerprints. Or, to be more precise, the collecting and classificaton of fingerprints. Why am I sitting here writing about fingerprints when the blog is supposed to be about Bigfoot? Well, every once in a while, some researcher, after being out researching all day, will come back to camp and they'll be a handprint on their vehicle that they think was made by Bigfoot. Hmm, now what?

A little background on me might be in order before I go any further. During my 37 years in Law Enforcement, many years were spent as a detective. As a detective, I was assigned to the State Police lab for 3 months and all I did during that time was lift and classify fingerprints. I examined so many thousands of prints, that at night, all I dreamed about was loops, whorls, arches and all the sub-catoragories. I read almost every book on the subject, testified many times in court using charts depicting 'points' and was declared an expert in both District and Superior Courts. My desk in my office was crowded with glass slides with prints on them that were lifted at crime scenes. Almost everyone one of those slides were of no value.

The reason why I say that they were of no value is because you need to have someone to compare it to, otherwise, it's just a print. Today, the FBI as well as the States top Law Enforcement office have huge fingerprint data computers where you put your lifted print in and it'll search every print on file for a match. However, if someone hasn't been printed, it's just a print.

Say, this is pretty interesting, but what has this to do with Bigfoot? Well, last year someone sent me a picture of a handprint that was found on a car's back window and the thinking was it was Bigfoot who walked by and laid it's hand on the window. I took that picture and blew it up more than it was to look for any patterns (i.e. loop, whorl, etc) and found that the finger tips was just smudges with maybe just a few ridges showing. Maybe Bigfoot did touch the window, maybe not. Maybe it was one of the research crew that inadvertently touch the window, Maybe not. But as far as I know, no one has ever printed a Bigfoot before so even if the handprint showed every ridge and groove possible, what or who do you match it to as I have previously stated? The real value would be if it was found to have ridge patterns that were never seen before. Then, the print would not have to be matched with something or someone and that may be proof enough that some unknown creature was real.

A footprint is another story. A human footprint has ridges and grooves just like the hands, but there are no actual categories such as loops, whorls, etc. Dr. M. has a footprint, supposedly a Bigfoot footprint that was cast and it was discovered to have ridges and groves. What makes this exciting versus a handprint on a window is that the ridges run differantly than what a human print would show. And that to me was a great discovery. It amazes me that a find like this hasn't been made into a a bigger deal then it has.

Have a comment, click on comments.

Want to have these blogs sent directly to your e-mail, go over to 'subscribe by e-mail on the right side of page.

See you next time.
Thank you for subscribing to Bigfoot Quest Blogs.

Nobody asked me, But...

Billy Willard is the living example of 'a good guy'.

The Florida SkunkApe is a misnomer, all Bigfoot stink according to reports.

I believe that Podiatrist should be the real experts on Bigfoot footprints.

Bobbie Shorts' newsletter is the best out there and I can't believe it's free.

I can't buy into the idea that Bigfoot and flying saucers are connected.

Stan Courtney has to be the most traveled Bigfoot researcher.

We should leave Bigfoot crayons so they can leave us messages 'please leave me alone'.

I think that 'Reverend Strone' is an exceptionally fine Bigfoot artist.

I can't buy into the Albert Ostman abduction either.

I think that Doug Bilby is one of the great Bigfoot story tellers.

Bigfoot fingerprints on cars, etc. are really of no use. Okay, okay, what the heck are Bigfoot researchers you might ask?

These are non-paid people who believe that there is a certain creature out there that is commonly called 'Bigfoot' or 'Sasquatch' and they are prepared to go out there and find it. So, what's the big deal? People research things all the time. Well, that's true, but there are researchers and then there are researchers. Here's the difference.

Almost all research is about something tangible, or, in other words, substantially real. The scientific community recognizes it's there and the researchers are trying to either cure it, find out more about it, add to it, improve it or teach it, etc. And, most research is done in an office, home P.C., library, college or laboratory with the exception of archeology, geology and outdoor things of that nature. but still, the nature or subject is real.

Bigfoot research on the other hand is research based solely on the belief that it's real. Quite a difference there. Like the archeologist and geologist, et al, they pack their bags of clothes, binoculars, bionic ears, two way radios, maps, cameras, trail cams, recorders, food, camping stuff, water, tents, change the oil and gas up, kiss the dog, kids and spouses in that order and head off for three-four days of roughing it.

The weather doesn't seem to deter most of the researchers either. Rain, snow, 30 degrees, 90 degrees, wind and hot sun, they go to places you better have a good compass with you or you're in a world of bad.

Now I've been out in the woods when it's been 90 degrees and I kept my car near so I could take advantage of the AC. I've been out there in 20-30 degrees, but the motel was not too far away and there was never any hesitation about going there. These people (Mike Killen for one) make camp and stay there no matter what. Hiking all over creation, staying up all night without being able to see 20 feet off and being able to hold their ground after hearing the most God-awful roar within rock throwing distance. Their shivering is not from the cold nor the sweating from the heat. There are places they go that have all kinds of nasty things there also, depending on the State. Meaning, when it's warm, there's poisonous snakes, spiders, scorpions, ticks, a kazillion mosquitos and a lot more that I don't want to have anything to do with.

There are places in the cold that I would not go to because there are brown, black and grisly bears. But even waking up in a sleeping bag with the temp under 50 is not cool. No thanks.

But the researchers? No problem. You see, there's a lot of circumstantial evidence out there to reinforce their beliefs that Bigfoot is real and the only way to prove it is to go where they believe it is. I believe Bigfoot is real, but I prefer not to go the extra mile as it were to prove it, unlike these dedicated other people. That's why I think the Bigfoot researchers deserve a tip of the hat.

Now where's my hat? Oh, oh, the darn dog took it again. Here girl! Here girl! Why do I always have to chase this dog?

To post a comment, click comments.
To have these blogs go to your email inbox, click on subscribe way over there to the right hand side of the page.

See you next time!
Thank you for subscribing to Bigfoot Quest Blogs.

More than one species?

This past weekend while indulging in my favorite pastime of daydreaming, Bigfoot came to mind. I have mentioned previously that I read a lot of sightings from misc. sites. Of particular interest is the descriptions given of the creature.

One would think that most, if not all, would be of the same. I mean, after all, how many species of Bigfoots can there be. However, at it turns out, like humans, there appears to be many if the reports can be any measure.

There are hair colored red ones, brown ones, black ones, white ones, tan ones, grey ones, mixed colored ones and even a report of an orange one. Short hair, long hair, hair on the face, no hair on the face. Hair on the breasts in the case of a female, no hair on the breasts.

Arms are thigh length, knee length and below the knees. They are body-builder size, normal size and skinny.

Their heads are cone shaped, flat topped, or human shaped. extended brow, no brow. Big lips, thin lips. Sharp teeth, even teeth. Recessed eyes, normal eyes. Red eyes, yellow eyes, green eyes. Whites, no whites. Noses are flat and wide, normal nose. Large ears, no ears. Face appears gorilla like, dog like and human like. They can look around or can't look around without turning their body. Wide shoulders, normal shoulders

They've been described as Neanderthal looking, gorilla looking, human looking. They can run on two feet or on all four limbs.

Their sounds are grunts, whistles, screams, hisses, howls, some kind of a language and everything in between. They are nocturnal, or anytime during the daytime. They are docile, they are aggressive.

They walk slowly away, walk very fast or run like a deer when they see a person. They are 250 lbs, 350 lbs, 450 and more lbs. They are 6 ft, 7ft, 8 ft, 9ft, 10ft and at least one report at 14 ft. They stand perfectly still, sway from side to side or don't even look at who's watching them. Of
course there's the footprints. Three toed, four toed, 5 toed, normal prints, offset bigtoe prints, curved prints.

I'm sure I've missed a few things, but you get the picture. Now I think I'll get back to my favorite pastime.

Comments? Click comments.

Want to subscribe? In fact, I think everyone does. I buy those paper back detective books all the time. When I start the book, I know that the solution or culprit will be finally revealed in the last few pages of the book. Hey great book! Let's get another!

But the mystery of Bigfoot is not at all like a detective book. Yes, the detectives are there, the fingerprints are there, the witnesses are there, however, there is no solution forthcoming. It's like getting books with the last pages torn out. Those Bigfoot shows on television aren't much help either. One person shouts to another 'my God, what's that!' Commercial time. When the show resumes, it was just a rabbit hopping off. After several times of doing this, you realize that there is not enough time left in the show to discover anything. It's very frustrating to me even though I might have seen one as described in a previous post. I'm not alone though. Why do people go out and buy the latest books on Sasquatch, tune into T.V. whenever there's another segment on Sasquatch or even listen week to week on Sasquatch internet radio shows? We're all looking for that tiniest piece of information that'll give us the 'solution'.

I have a friend that's a skeptic. Even though he admits that he doesn't really buy into Bigfoot, he has some books, some CD's, tunes into our show every week as well as other Bigfoot shows. When we get together, we talk about the pros and cons of Bigfoot. The thing is in my opinion, he's hooked on the mystery. Anyone who has an interest in Bigfoot is hooked on the mystery also.

I wonder if Bigfoot was discovered to be a real live animal, would most of us move on to some other mystery, some other cryptic species? I mean, would we tune into radio or T.V. shows and listen to someone describe that they heard what they think are Bigfoot screams or tracks that they found attributed to Bigfoot? Think about tuning into a show about gorillas where they just show you where the grass is flattened out because they bedded down there for the night or some half eaten stalks and leaves without actually showing the gorillas themselves. I know gorillas exist, either show me the gorillas or I'm going onto something else.

Yes, it's the mystery that keeps us coming back everytime. It's what keeps us going to sites that reports sighting stories, pictures of tracks, internet radio shows, T.V. , books and everything else so that maybe tomorrow, just maybe sometime soon, we can finally get to the end of the book and solve the .....mystery.

Any comments? Part two

Okay, you've done everything in part one, now to plan on going on the air. Unless you can talk for hours and hours on one main subject of whatever your show is about, it would be a good idea to invite guests to interview onto your show. Although Blog Talk Radio is really a call in program, you can not depend on people picking up the phone and calling in, especially if there are going to be long distant charges. Now, getting guests to appear on your show is not as easy as one would think. Mike and I spend a lot of time on this. Guests have their own agendas that don't always match yours. This is to mean that with the differant time zones and the time of your show, after supper to you may mean that to your prospective guest, they are still at work. They may have differants plans for the day of the show or they simply cannot stay for the allotted time of the interview.

We generally start the week talking on the telephone discussing who to invite to the show and to what show date in the future that we need a guest. Sometimes, that 'date' is the very next show! Then we sit back and...wait. When we get back responses, it could be anything like, 'nope, can't make it', 'yes, but not until next month', 'the only time I can make it is the following week' meanwhile, we have someone already scheduled for that week. And of course, no responses at all! Meanwhile, the clock is ticking because there are more things to do after someone accepts. When we don't get a response, we have to wait a few days because not everyone checks their e-mail everyday. Tick Tock, Tick Tock.

John S. responds back and yes he can make it. Great! Now we have to do a show announcement on our show's main page on who is going to be on the show and a little about who this person is. Then, we send out a show reminder e-mail to whoever is on our notification list which is around a hundred people. We're ready to do the show! Well, almost.

Some guest have some pictures or links that they want to talk about and it's not much fun for the listeners to hear someone be talking and describing a picture without seeing the actual picture. So, Mike and I have another website where we can put these pictures or links on and the listeners can go there and see the pictures or links. The page is http://bigfootquest.viviti.com/ just in case your curious. These pictures or links have to be uploaded to the site in advance and sometimes it's very time consuming. We're now ready to do the show! Hmm, just a couple more things to cover.

The guest that is scheduled needs to be 1. Interesting, 2. Be able to fill up the time slot available. In our case, 90 minutes. This is usually not a problem. We had a guest once who as I understood it, was supposed to be on for 90 minutes. After 40 minutes, decided that it was past his bedtime and he needed his sleep. Mike and I were left with 50 minutes and thunderstruck because we hadn't planned on anything like this. After tapping our fingers on our desk wondering what we were going to say, we gave out the call-in number hoping someone would call in of which happened.

Last thing. If you don't have a guest, you do just a call-in show. The pitfall here is, as stated before, you may not get any or enough callers to fill the show. But that's show business!!

The pride comes in here when everything goes smoothly, the guest was great, the chatroom was active with a lot of questions and comments about what a great show it was. We get a warm feeling when that happens! Is putting on an internet show a lot of work? Yes! We've been doing it for a couple of years now and we still love doing it. The people we've met from all over the US and the rest of the world are all good people and we look forward to meeting more.

If you have any comments, click on comments.
If you'd like to have these blogs sent directly to your e-mail in box, click on 'subscribe' over there to the right. Part one

Well, first you have to pick a subject that interests you, and of course other people. For without them, you'll have no show. Now before you do anything else, you'll have to make the commitment to do this on a regular basis. This means week to week to week because your listeners don't want to be disappointed when there's no show after planning to be at their computers every week to listen to whatever you present. That's pretty much it, pretty simple hmm.

However, getting your show on the air every week is not simple. On starting, you need to register with, in our case, BlogTalkRadio to be a host. This is differant than being a listener. There's an application, or form if you will, that has to be made out. When I registered two years ago, this form didn't give anyone a whole lot of information on how to fill it out. To me, it was complicated and I didn't have anyone to ask how to do it. You have to name the show on the appication, e-mail address, some personal information, etc. I finally got through it and it was time to go to the next step

Now you need to pick a time slot that you want the show to air on, having in mind the differant time zones around the country. I mean, you wouldn't want to do a show at 3:00 am wherever you are. You don't have to state this while signing up, but it requires some thought.

Okay, you've registered, named the show, decided a time slot for the new show and your ready to go out and meet a whole new group of people you've never met before and a whole lot of people that you'll never know their names because you'll only really meet the people that'll be in your chat room, the rest will be tuning in via podcast of which you can't see. Picking a co-host to do the show with you is also a good idea. But make the choice well. He/she needs to be of someone that you get along well with, is ready to share some of the work that needs to go into having a show, and is able to take over and do the show in case you can't make it at some point.

Now the hard and scary part. You have to pre-advertise your show in advance. You have to sign in and go to a page that allows you to pick the actual time you're to air the program, tell a little about what the show's about, pick a show catoragory, how long the show will be on the air, usually one hour, 90 minutes or two hours and of course, what day. But the real scary part of it is, there's a switchboard that's part of the broadcasting method of doing the show and there's no way to practise on it until you do the show. What we did was, we set up a program for a half hour test show so that I could get the hang of it prior to having a regular show. At the time, only one of us had access to it, but now that has changed.

The above is just getting ready to do the show, there's a lot more behind the scenes of actually doing one. In part two next time, I'll get into the real nuts and bolts, pitfalls, headaches, pride and laughs of actually doing a show.

If you have any comments, click on comments and fire away.
If you would like to get these Blog sent to your e-mail inbox, click on 'subscribe' on right hand side.
Thank you for subscribing to Bigfoot Quest Blogs.

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/BigfootQuestBlog/~3/HPQg0fVfTFw/want-to-have-your-own-internet-radio.html" title="Want to have your own Internet radio show? The following might be considered a sighting, I'll leave it to the reader. This happened in 2000, in the first week of November, east of Bangor. Now, just a small bit of trivia. In Maine, as in most states, nobody and nothing goes into the woods during hunting season without wearing hunters' orange, either vest or hat or both. That includes non-hunters (residents) and pets. Anyway, I was sitting on a log on the side of a hill about 7:00 a.m. overlooking an open area that ran about 600 yards straight away from me with a another hill to my left with a tree line stopping just on the downward side becoming thick briars and scrub bushes, and on the right side, approx 200 yards, were more woods with a small steam about 15 feet wide running through them. To the right side of these woods was a huge swamp and beyond that, nothing but woods for miles.

I then saw what appeared to be a tall man walk out of the tree line on the left side hill about two hundred yards away, walk in my direction a short way along the tree line and then turned and walked down the hill heading towards the woods on the right. I usually carried binoculars and a camera with me, but for some reason, didn't use them, didn't think of them or didn't have them with me. The thing was, this 'man' was completely black! I mean hands and face also. I remember thinking "either this guy is out of his head or he doesn't know what he is doing" as this area contains black bear as well. he was too far away for me to make out any distinct features such as if he (it) had fur or whatever. He was not carrying anything and was in a hurry because he covered that 200 yards really quick with me catching glimpses between the scrub bushes. He disappeared into the right side woods and was gone.

About two hours later, my hunting partner joined me and I told him about this damn fool in black. We decided to walk over to this stand of woods and look around and when we did, there was no sign of him.

The following year in this same area, I was looking for deer tracks along a tote road and came across a single clear bare footprint on the side of the road. It was not your typical 15" + track, but about the size of my boot print which is 9 1/2. Again, I remember thinking "who would have their shoes and socks off out here when it was like 20 degrees for the past week.

These instances were 9 and 8 years ago and at the time, I was not 'into' bigfoot and bigfoot never entered my mind at the time. I was always interested in the Yeti of Himalaya fame and such but did not realize that there might be a creature here in the states until later on when I started to research on the web. I now follow most websites on the subject and read every sighting I can find. I even, along with Mike Killen, have an internet radio show on Bigfoot. I don't hunt anymore, but perhaps I will go back to this area again and 'hunt' with a camera.

If you have any opinions, you can click on comments.
If you would like these blogs to appear in your email inbox when posted, click on 'subscribe on right side of page.
Thank you for subscribing to Bigfoot Quest Blogs.

Is Bigfoot Real?

Hmmm, good question! I wish I knew for certain.

Alices’ Wonderland, Dorothys’ Land of Oz, Rumplestiltskin and Santa Claus are real in childrens’ minds, but they’re just made up stories as we later found out. Made up stories? Like the Queen of Hearts, the Wicked Witch of the East. the ugly Troll and Grinch, are these stories of Bigfoot just fantasies like the above fairy tales, made up to scare us for awhile until we realize that there’s no such thing as monsters? Until the realization sets in, the hoaxers have a great laugh at our expense. Yeah, maybe there is no such thing as Bigfoot and I have wasted the last two years doing a show about a fantasy. Maybe I should have done a show about Little Red Riding Hood. After all, the Big Bad Wolf was a creature of the woods!

But wait a doggone minute here! What about the tens of thousands of sightings of the creature known as ‘Bigfoot‘? A great deal of these are from Game Wardens, Cops, Firemen, Doctors, Phd’s lumber Jacks, Hunters, Fishers, Nurses, Moms driving their kids to school and others who have no agenda to lie. I personally have read thousands of these sightings myself on websites that keep records of these reports. And, these are just reports of people that submitted them. What about the people who were too embarrassed or afraid of ridicule from friends, family or co-workers to submit their sightings. What about the other people who were not afraid to report them, but didn’t know where to report them.

Well, what about some pictures? If there were this many sightings, where are the pictures? There are pictures out there, but most of them are out of focus, hard to see, etc. To be honest, not worth a damn. However, most of the sightings are from people who were in a vehicle not expecting to see anything. Most sightings are but a second or two, too quick to get the camera out and point and a good deal of them are that the people were too surprised to remember the camera. This in fact happened to me. What about the videos such as the Paterson/Gimlin film which to this time as not been proven to be a hoax? But that is a topic for another Blog at another time.

What about the fact that there are thousands of footprint casts? 15, 18+ inch footprints. Imagine yourself as a hoaxer, going into very remote woods miles off the main logging road with a pair of wooden feet hoping that some research would walk by in the next few days or so because the rain would wash away any traces of them or in the case of snow, they would melt. You’d maybe do this once or twice before saying to yourself, that’s it!

What about the hair? Samples of hair have been found from time to time and submitted for analysis. It comes back as ‘Unknown Primate”. this is after having been compared to every known animal. Hmmm.

There are many other things to present here such as rock throwing, vocals, tree knocks, footsteps, stealing of food, teepee structures, etc. but this is suppose to be a Blog and not a book.

Is Bigfoot real? Fantasy? I wish I knew for certain.

Now it's your turn. Bigfoot real or fantasy? If you have an opinion, go to comments.

Next Time: My Own Sighting

Thank you for subscribing to Bigfoot Quest Blogs.

Refreshed Blogsite

To all the people who have come here in the last year or so, I apologize for not having much to see here. This page was created as an assistant page to our regular BlogTalkRadio show where Mike Killen and I do our regular tuesday night internet radio show.

It was first intended to describe what the previous show was about, who our guest was and who called in live on the show. That went nicely for awhile, but then time became a commodity and keeping up with it became a problem and that was not fair to the visitors to this site

This page then became a place to add some pictures or videos that our guests wanted to submit prior to the show because these would be most of the talking points during the show interview. But then, most of the guests did not have anything they wanted to put on the page, so this page again lapsed into inactivity.

Starting this week however, I've decided to do a blog page about anything Bigfoot related and hopefully after the false starts, to keep it on a regular basis about once a week. I may even put it out there about if anyone who doesn't have their own site who wanted to be a guest blogger on this site, we could probibly work it out as long as it was Bigfoot related of some kind.

One change that has been made, is that there is now a spot on the right side of the page to subscribe to the blog. This is intended to be delivered to your e-mail in-box whenever there is a blog post.

Okay, that's it for now and we'll see how it goes.

Bob Coyne
Thank you for subscribing to Bigfoot Quest Blogs.
