The charity has mapped out over 1,200 free bike check events across 449 locations, bringing together retailers Evans Cycles and Halfords, alongside independent retailers represented by the Association of Cycle Traders, and Cycling UK’s own network of community projects and programmes. The three-day campaign focuses on helping as many bikes as possible get back on the road. For bikes that need more extensive repairs, attendees will receive expert advice, helpful information, and guidance on where to go next.

“The Big Fix’ is a brilliant initiative by Cycling UK, bringing together every corner of the UK’s cycling sector to get more people making journeys by bike. Across the country, there are thousands of bikes sitting unused in sheds or rusting in gardens that could be brought back to life with a simple repair.

“Cycle businesses are vital in providing the expertise, services and support people need to keep their bikes safe and roadworthy. At a time when many households are feeling the squeeze, getting a bike back on the road can open up a more affordable way to travel. By working together, we can help people unlock low-cost, reliable journeys for shorter trips, saving money while still getting where they need to go – Jonathan Harrison, Director of Association of Cycle Traders

The Big Fix: How Bike Shops Can Get Involved

Cycling UK is actively encouraging more bike shops, community organisations, and cycling projects to get involved by hosting their own Big Fix events and joining the growing nationwide network.

Taking part is designed to be straightforward and low-cost. Organisations simply need to register their interest by completing a short online form with basic details, including their organisation name, event date and time, location, and contact information. Once registered, events will be added to Cycling UK’s national map of events, helping local people discover their nearest free bike check.

For bike shops and cycle businesses, The Big Fix offers a valuable opportunity to connect directly with local communities, showcase their expertise, and bring new and returning customers through their doors. By helping people get bikes back on the road, participating retailers can build trust, demonstrate their service offering, and create longer-term relationships with riders who may later require parts, servicing or upgrades.

The campaign also provides increased visibility through Cycling UK’s national promotion, positioning participating businesses as part of a coordinated, sector-wide effort to support affordable, accessible transport during a time of rising costs. With thousands of people expected to attend events across the country, it presents a timely opportunity for the trade to play a visible role in enabling more people to choose cycling for everyday journeys.

By working together, the charity aims to bring as many unused bikes as possible back into use and demonstrate the vital role local bike shops play in keeping the nation moving.

The new range offers two compound options tailored to different riding styles and terrain preferences. The Pulse Compound is developed for speed-focussed riders, the compound reduces rolling resistance and enhances acceleration, making it ideal for fast gravel riding and hardpack surfaces. The LSG compound (Low Specific Gravity) priorities grip, durability and control, delivering enhanced traction for rougher terrain and technical riding.

At the heart of the range is Nutrak’s SYN Core casing technology. Designed specifically for gravel and XC applications, SYN Core combines a lightweight, high-TPI construction with targeted reinforcement to create a supple ride feel while maintaining durability and puncture protection. The result is a tyre that rolls quickly, tracks accurately and provides excellent grip across mixed terrain without compromising reliability.

With a comprehensive range of tread options, advanced compound technologies and tubeless-ready construction, the new Nutrak x Vee Gravel Tyre collection offers riders a genuine performance upgrade at an accessible price point.

Viiala, the ultra-premium electric bicycle brand co-founded by Tomi Viiala and François-Henri Bennahmias, announces a landmark partnership with UNIT 1, the world’s leading developer of Smart Helmets for cycling. Together, the two companies will co-create an exclusive helmet engineered from the ground up to interface seamlessly with the Viiala e-bike and to deliver a riding experience defined, above all else, by safety.

At Viiala, safety is not a specification it is a design philosophy. Building the world’s most advanced electric bicycle demands an equally uncompromising approach to rider protection. Every element of the Viiala experience has been conceived around a simple truth: there are precisely four points where a rider makes contact with their machine. Four interfaces between human and bicycle. Grip, saddle, pedals and helmet.

HELMET — The most critical interface. Now, reimagined.

The helmet is the singular touchpoint that can determine whether a rider walks away from an incident. For Viiala, ‘good enough’ protection was never an option. This is why the partnership with UNIT 1 was not a choice it was an inevitability. The helmet co-developed exclusively for Viiala will be built to the most demanding protection standards in the world, while introducing a suite of connected technology that transforms it into an active extension of the bike itself.

ACTIVE SAFETY: BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER

UNIT 1 was founded on a radical premise: that a helmet should not merely protect a rider after a crash it should work to prevent one from happening in the first place, and continue working even after impact. Their approach, which they call Active Safety, operates across three phases of every ride:

Before a crash: High-intensity lights positioned at eye-level make the rider visible to drivers. Integrated turn signals and brake lights communicate intent making the rider not only seen, but predictable.

During a crash: UNIT 1 helmets carry a 5-star Virginia Tech safety rating with MIPS system and NTA e-bike certification best-in-class impact protection at the moment it matters most.

After a crash: Crash Alert technology detects an impact and automatically sends an SOS text with the rider’s precise location to an emergency contact. First responders can scan the helmet to access the rider’s medical ID and critical health information immediately.

The Viiala-exclusive helmet will go further still, featuring a dedicated technology suite designed to interface directly with the bike delivering critical riding data to the rider without requiring them to look down or break concentration. It is the ultimate interface for the ultimate electric bicycle.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

“At Viiala, we believe the most important question in electric cycling is not what a bike can do it is what happens to the rider. Four contact points connect a human being to our VIIALA that can travel at 45 km/h or more. We are obsessed with making each of those four points as safe, as precise, and as intelligent as possible. UNIT 1 shares that obsession. This partnership is not a commercial arrangement it is a shared conviction.”

— Tomi Viiala, Co-Founder, Viiala

“When I heard Tomi was building something new after his days at Stromer, I knew UNIT 1 had to be part of it before I even knew what it was. We had pioneered the helmet-to-bike connection together. Now, working with Viiala feels like the natural evolution of that same original idea: what can a Smart Helmet do when connected to the most advanced electric bicycle ever built? When Tomi reached out, we jumped aboard in a second.”

— Juan Garcia Mansilla, Co-founder, UNIT 1

A PARTNERSHIP FORGED IN HISTORY

This is not the first time Viiala’s Co-Founder has worked alongside UNIT 1. As Co-CEO of Stromer — the Swiss manufacturer that established the S-Pedelec category as a global premium benchmark — Tomi Viiala and the UNIT 1 team pioneered the world’s first helmet-toe-bike integration, introducing a connected, safer riding experience the industry had never encountered.

The Viiala partnership represents the next chapter of that shared mission — elevated to match the ambition of an ultra-premium electric bicycle that is redefining what the category can mean. Since 2021, UNIT 1 has reached over 60,000 riders globally. Their technology has demonstrably saved lives. For Viiala — a brand that will not compromise on any dimension of the ride — there was only one choice for the helmet.

This is not a co-branded accessory. It is a system component conceived and engineered as part of the Viiala experience from the ground up, held to the same standards of precision and intention as every other element of the machine.

THE COMMITMENT

Every rider who swings a leg over a Viiala is placing an extraordinary amount of trust in the people who built it. That is not a transaction. It is something closer to a promise one that travels with them on every ride, whether they are conscious of it or not.

Viiala was not built to impress. It was built to be worthy of that trust. The kind of worthy that shows up quietly, in decisions made long before the rider ever touches the bike. In the choice of partners. In what you refuse to compromise. In the belief that the person on the bike their safety, their confidence, their ability to come home matters more than anything else.

That is what UNIT 1 means to Viiala. Not a feature. A promise kept

ABOUT VIIALA

Unveiled in 2025 as part of the Honourable Merchants Group and launching its inaugural bikes in 2028, Viialaʼs first model enters a new, untapped technological and innovation-led market in the segment. More than an e-bike, it is a statement of possibility where engineering, aesthetics, and purpose converge to create the ultimate riding experience for the cities of today and the roads of tomorrow.

ABOUT UNIT1

UNIT 1 develops Smart Helmets for cycling, using technology to make rides safe beyond the confines of traditional impact protection. Using lights, turn signals, brake lights and an advanced sensor suite, UNIT 1 has created the only two Smart Helmets in the world with a 5star Virginia Tech safety ranking. Since 2023, UNIT 1 has pioneered the integration between helmets and e-bikes — originally with Stromer and now expanded across brands — making it the leading authority in connected e-bike helmets. Today, more than 60,000 riders trust UNIT 1 gear on every ride. www.unit1gear.com

Real-time coaching, safe ride assist, performance logs and range indicators are all built in, with maintenance and update reminders handled automatically between rides.

Beyond Yamaha’s own components:

The PW-LINK System’s open architecture extends beyond Yamaha’s own components. Riders and manufacturers can effortlessly sync the system with complementary third-party technologies, allowing for custom connectivity setups built around the way each rider rides.

Fabio Marzola, Division Manager eBike Drive Units & Systems at Yamaha Motor Europe N.V., said: “We’ve spent three decades engineering and refining eBike systems since introducing the world’s first production electrically power-assisted bicycle in 1993.”

“We have brought all of that experience into one platform. The PW-X4 is the most powerful motor we have ever produced, and alongside the PW-S3, it’s a system designed around how people actually want to ride. Every product in this lineup has been tested extensively to ensure we deliver the most reliable, safe and best performing eBike system range in the market.”

The Yamaha PW-LINK System is available on the 2027 Raymon models Ravor LT [MSRP 5.999€], Ravor Pro [MSRP 5.499€] and Ravor Comp [MSRP 4.999 €], all already launched in the market.

Additional OEM partners will be announced.

With this, the custom-made manufacturer is bringing the first comprehensive look at the 2027 model year right to where decisions on consulting, orders, and seasonal planning are made: to the regions. In addition to roadshow stops at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, the event program includes further industry events in Kassel at the BIKE&CO Order Festival and Altenberge, Germany.

For retailers, the registration process that has now begun means one thing above all: early and hands-on access to the new models, equipment options, and sales themes for the coming season. VELO DE VILLE is deliberately shifting the first in-depth encounter with the 2027 model year from the traditional trade show hall to a more personal format.

“With our roadshows, we’re creating a setting where retailers can engage with the new models early on and without the hustle and bustle of a trade show. Those who experience the bikes in person, test ride them, and have expert discussions with our on-site representatives gain early insight into the 2027 season,” says Alain Thiemann, Managing Director of VELO DE VILLE. At the same time, the company is underscoring its close ties to the retail sector and its commitment to dealers.

Focus on New Models and Consultation

The roadshows are deliberately designed as a compact B2B format. On-site, VELO DE VILLE will showcase the complete lineup for the upcoming model year, providing information on new products, equipment options, and digital solutions and services. The concept is complemented by personal technical discussions with VELO DE VILLE representatives on-site, as well as a comprehensive look into the custom-made world of VELO DE VILLE.

The dates have already been set: CIN Live, September 20–21 in Stoneleigh,Warwickshire through August 31 at the in-house trade show in Altenberge, Germany. Hotel rooms have been reserved for those who would like to visit us at the factory. To ensure a thoroughly enjoyable stay, VELO DE VILLE will also cover the costs of meals and accommodation on site. This means that registering not only secures your spot but also offers a stress-free way to kick off the 2027 season.

Altenberge remains a permanent destination

Beyond the roadshows and trade show dates, Altenberge also remains a permanent destination for getting to know the 2027 VELO DE VILLE models. There, the 2027 models can be viewed and test-ridden at your convenience. At the same time, the headquarters in Münsterland offers the opportunity to experience the company’s manufacturing and custom-made philosophy firsthand.

Together with the compact PowerTube 360 battery, it enables sleek, minimalist eBike designs. The latest urban portfolio is completed by a new Bosch ConnectModule for smart theft protection, a compact LED Controller, and the easy-to-use Intuvia 200 display.

“With our new products centred around the Hub Line, we are ushering in a new era of urban eBikes. Not only are these lightweight, agile, and inspiring, with their clear and modern design language, but they also revolutionise the urban riding experience. At the same time, we are making connected eBiking accessible to even more people. Allowing eBikers to benefit from all the advantages of our smart system: from the familiar Bosch quality and durability to intuitive digital services and reliable support – all from a single source and engineered in Germany,” says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems.

The German brand has also Bosch has upgraded the Active Line Plus to be smaller, lighter, and more supportive. The smart systemalso adds the new Intuvia 200 display, an improved ConnectModule, and thePowerTube 720 battery for rides up to 185 kilometers.

Clean style, smart power

For riders wanting to make their everyday life in the city easier and more stylish, Bosch eBike Systems is breaking new ground with the Hub Line. Until now, the company has been known for its powerful mid-drive motors, but the Hub Line heralds a new era for elegant urban eBikes as the first hub motor in the smart system. Developed specifically for city riding, it delivers 45 Nm of torque for a ride that feels noticeably lively yet smooth. A smart sensor function keeps control precise and ensures agile riding behaviour, allowing riders to tackle situations such as starting off at traffic lights or moderate inclines without breaking a sweat.

At speeds exceeding 25 km/h, the motor is completely decoupled, allowing the eBike to be ridden like a conventional bike, with virtually no pedal resistance.

At just 2.3 kg, the lightweight motor makes the eBike highly manoeuvrable and easy to carry. It is also incredibly compact. With a diameter of only 100 mm and a black aluminium housing, the motor blends seamlessly into the wheel hub for a virtually invisible, clean look.

As an integral part of the smart system, the Hub Line is fully connected. In combination with the eBike Flow app, the smartphone becomes an intuitive control centre for intelligent functions such as theft protection, navigation and personalisation. Continuous over-the-air updates ensure that the eBike is always up to date. For riders wanting a more comfortable ride, the Hub Line can be combined with eShift electronic gear shifting. Riders can choose between manual or automatic shifting, ensuring smooth, efficient gear changes at exactly the right moment

Energy at its most streamlined

In keeping with the clean design of the Hub Line, Bosch also presents the

PowerTube 360, the slimmest battery in its smart system to date. The battery’s 68 mm profile integrates seamlessly into the frame, ensuring the eBike looks just like a conventional bicycle at first glance. The low weight of the battery, at only around 2.1 kg, optimises the eBike’s centre of gravity, allowing it to respond and travel more dynamically. The 360 Wh battery delivers reliable energy for daily urban use, offering a range of over 80 km¹. For longer distances, the DualBattery system can be extended using the PowerMore 250 Range Extender. Depending on the frame design, the PowerTube 360 can be permanently built in or easily removed.

Intelligent protection for greater peace of mind with the Bosch

ConnectModule

With the Bosch ConnectModule, riders can enjoy peace of mind, even when they don’t have a direct view of their eBike. Equipped with GPS, mobile communications and motion sensors, it forms the basis for advanced digital theft protection functions, such as eBike Alarm. The latest generation of this module introduces two key innovations. Bluetooth® Low Energy technology is used for highly accurate tracking within a few metres. This helps locate an eBike in places where conventional GPS trackers often fall short, such as basements and backyards. The module can also be retrofitted to compatible eBikes easily using a flexible attachment. The extended features are part of the Flow+ paid subscription service.

LED Controller: maximum control, minimal design

With the new LED Controller, Bosch has launched the successor to the LED Remote. Thanks to its design, the new control unit is around 65% smaller than its predecessor, ensuring a tidy, minimalist look on the handlebars. Ergonomics take centre stage here, with all five buttons optimally positioned within easy reach of the rider’s thumb and provide tangible and audible feedback. eBikers can change the support mode, enable walk assistance, or operate the light safely, without having to take their eyes off the road. The LEDs clearly display information such as the riding mode and battery level, while a sensor automatically adjusts their brightness to the ambient light for optimum readability during day and night. A practical USB-C connector with up to 10 Wh of charging power2 also allows external devices to be charged.

Focus through clarity

The Intuvia 200 is more than just a display – it’s a design statement. Its sleek, minimalist look blends seamlessly into the aesthetics of any eBike and emphasises its clean look. The 2.4-inch greyscale display provides a razor-sharp image and ensures excellent readability in any weather and from any perspective. Allowing eBikers to focus entirely on their flow during the ride and enjoy their urban experience.

The future of urban eBiking starts now

Perfectly coordinated and digitally connected, the Hub Line, PowerTube 360, ConnectModule, LED Controller and Intuvia 200 come together to define a new generation of urban eBikes. Combining an intuitive riding experience, minimalist design and smart features, they make the eBike an integral part of modern urban living, whether for the daily commute, a spontaneous visit to friends, or a quick ride through the city.

“We are incredibly proud to have been named National Family Business of the Year and to have also received the HSBC Customer Champion Award.

This recognition validates the effort our team puts in every day to designing and building outstanding electric bikes, while creating a business that prioritises people, sustainability and exceptional customer service. It is incredibly rewarding to see those values recognised on a national stage, and we are immensely proud that our business has received this level of national recognition.”

Commenting on this year’s awards, Tom Wood, Head of SME Business Banking at HSBC UK, said:

“With 2,800 businesses entering the competition, it’s clear there’s no shortage of ambition, confidence and innovation in small businesses across the UK.”

Martin McTague OBE, National Chair of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), added:

“These awards highlight the vital contribution that small businesses make to local communities and to the wider economy.
