Mon, May 26: BikeMonth Group Commute

Event: BikeMonth Group Commute

When: Mon, May 26, 7:30 - 8:30 AM

Where: Various Meeting Points (see website for map)

Description:

The Group Commute was the launch event that started it all. Bike Month began as bike to work day in 1988, and this initiative remains the marquee event of Bike Month.

Commuters from around the city meet to ride together from four start points and converge at Yonge and Bloor for 8 a.m. These rides are staffed with ride co-ordinators, Emergency Medical Services workers, and a Police escort (some of whom have been known to stop car traffic for the group in the style of a parade, this however, remains at the discretion of the officer on duty and cannot be guaranteed as a feature of the ride). All riders will receive a free Bike Month t-shirt for their participation, as well as complimentary breakfast upon their arrival at City Hall.

While it is important to promote cycling in general, there is a specific need to encourage more bicycle commuting. Bicycles are an important component for the mobility of anyone in urban areas who are concerned for their environment, and their health. It's time for a change of attitudes, because bicycle commuting can be both practical and enjoyable.

Join the Mayor, City Councillors and fellow cyclists for free coffee, fruit, pancakes, and more on your way to work in the morning.

Contact us for more information.

Link:
Group Commute webpage

The novel centres on Andrew Day’s bicycle odyssey through eastern Canada. In episodes of intensifying violence, Andrew is forced onto the side of the road and must question what he will do to reach home and a love he may have forsaken.
