With beach holidays always being a hit with the British public, there has always been a lot of press and advice on what swimwear to wear, but what if you are not the biggest swimming fan and just plan to chill on the beach?
Let’s face it, we are not all blessed with Kate Moss figures and many find it a daunting prospect with regards to deciding what beachwear to wear for a trip to the beach. Although many can’t wait to jump into their teeny weeny bikini and flaunt their bod, you can of course still look beautiful without flaunting flesh.

According to The Sun, Kelly Brooke has officially been awarded the title of ‘Best Bikini Body’ following a survey of 2000 people by Gillette Venus. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with such bodies or praise, but does this mean we shouldn’t wear a bikini?

Of course not! There are plenty of different bikini styles available that suit all body types so just because you don’t look like Miss Brookes doesn’t mean you should avoid the beaches this summer. Instead, simply select women’s swimwear and a bikini that suits your size and shape or even select a suitable swimsuit or tankini which can be just as stylish but potentially more flattering.

For Petite Frames

For those with petite frames and small busts the best bikinis are bandeau or triangular designs. These provide plenty of coverage with simple, flat designs. Small bikini briefs with frills or tie-sides look great with slender, toned legs and add a fun and cheeky style to any beach outfit.

For Bigger Busts

For those with a larger bust a triangular topped bikini is probably not going to provide enough support. Instead, think about some different swimwear. Halter neck and moulded tops are designed to provide extra support where it is needed and are therefore ideal.

So you are off on holiday in a couple of days. Flights booked. Hotel booked. There is one thing left to do, and something the majority of holidaymakers dread and put off (if you are in the minority, I envy your organisational skills!): the packing.

A survey carried out by a travel insurance website found that 77 per cent of women confessed to packing extras of everything just in case they can’t decide what to wear when abroad. The results found that the average woman tends to almost double her packing contents for her holiday, although they only end up wearing 50 per cent of the items they take with them in their suitcase.

Not only do women fill their suitcases with a large amount of clothes including beachwear, but also electrical items such as hair straighteners (41 percent),suncream (73 percent) and make up (53 percent). Head of travel at Gocompare.com advised that “Packing for holiday requires a certain amount of organisation, and it certainly pays to work out what you need in advance.”

Unlike some bulkier clothes such as jumpers and trousers, a plus point about swimwear is the very little amount of room it will take up in your suitcase. So if you can’t decide which bikini out of your collection to take you may as well take them all! After all, then you have yourself a different look for everyday you are on the beach/by the pool.

We all know just how much concerns about our bodies can affect our lifestyles and the decisions we make, but surely there is a better way to cope with our own personal hang-ups? According to OK! The key to successfully puting together an outfit is focusing on one key piece then working the rest of the outfit around it. To illustrate this we have put together an outfit of the day. The key item in question is courtesy of O’Neill, who have produced these fabulous high rise khaki shorts which are available to buy online at Tucano Beach (before they get snapped up!).
With the frilly top detail, match the shorts with a tucked in simple t shirt. In this case we have gone for a cute frilly little number by St Tropez, which is stocked in our boutique in West Wittering.

Finish the outfit with some statement jewellery such as a necklace, and a big straw bag to carry all your essential beach items. With summer upon us, cue the celebrity gossip magazines bombarding us with photographs of perfectly groomed, tanned and toned celebrities parading in their latest designer swimwear and looking every bit picture perfect. However, being the body conscious nation we are, not everyone is as confident to step out in swimwear, even when we know we will not have the added pressure of being followed by papparazi (although watch out for your friends uploading those facebook beach photos from your latest holiday!)

Coleen Rooney has been splashing out recently and has been spotted wearing over £1,500 worth of beachwear in one week, whilst on holiday in Barbados.
Apparently being seen in the same bikini, beach dress or beach kaftans more than once is a near impossible feat for the footballer’s wife, who has built up quite an admirable collection of swimwear in recent years.

Showing off her bikini choices to the world has proved useful for paps and bikini lovers, too. So let’s have a look at what trend setter Rooney has to show for her beach blow out, plus learn where you can get the look cheaper!

Firstly there is this zig-zag halter neck detail bikini which is the first of many- worn on the first outing to the beach when staying at the Sandy Lane hotel in Barbados. A recent survey found that women do not think it is acceptable to wear a bikini on a beach once they reach the age of 47. Do you agree? Or are you never too old to wear a bikini?

Over 2,000 women were surveyed and found that the miniskirts should not be worn after the age of 35 and high heels should be hung up once women reach 51.
The study by Diet Chef found that one in two believe that a woman who is slim, healthy and attractive in her 50s and 60s can ‘get away with anything’. However the research found that women think 61 years old age is the time to stop wearing swimwear, banishing them to a swim free life when you reach your 60s.
Are you one of the 44 per cent of women regularly worry that they are too old to wear certain items of clothing? Well I’m pretty sure Jerry Hall, 54, and Dame Helen Mirren, 63, aren’t: older women should be able to wear what they want, they want when they want!
Many 63 year olds would shy away from a beach if it involved removing a cardigan yet Dame Helen has become an iconic figure for women everywhere as she shows off a body that looks half her age in flattering beachwear.
Wearing a two-piece bath suit is brave for anyone of any age allowing yourself to be judged on the half naked catwalk we call a beach. Luckily we don’t have to face being papped like celebrities but nonetheless you still want to show that you’ve got it. The unwritten pledge taken by women who say no to miniskirts after 35 or no to bikinis after 40 is not a one size fits all rule.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Caron Leckie, Nutritionist for Diet Chef, said: “It’s up to individuals to choose when they should stop wearing certain items.
“Some women may be comfortable in a bikini at the age of 65, whereas the more self-conscious may want to stop much earlier – it’s very much personal choice.
“Saying that, everyone wants to look the best they can and now is the prime time to get in shape for summer.”
While many women dread looking in bikini shops and stick instead to a comfortable and practical swimsuit, it appears that Katie Holmes, 32, is not shy of flaunting her body.

We love nothing more than a celebrity in a bikini and today we’ve discovered that none other than reality TV star of The Hills, Audrina Partridge has been parading her PBB (perfect bikini body) all over Mexico’s sandy white beaches.
The 26 year old slender starlet was enjoying a family holiday when she was spotted looking as if she could benefit from a visit to some online swimwear shops , wearing a miss-match bikini of an orange top and patterned bottoms.
Showing off her toned abs and the results of a healthy diet, plus the age old trick of doing exercise, the celebrity has been spotted strutting her stuff on the beaches of Cabo San Lucas with a big floppy sun hat and shades to complete the look.
The former cast member of The Hills grew up as a beach baby living near famous Orange County in California, which may be why she always has that PBB.
Speaking to Shape magazine the Perfect Partridge boasts about her nonexistent swimwear issues,
“I don’t even think twice about wearing a swimsuit because it’s always been a part of my lifestyle,” she says, “but I have girlfriends who are so afraid to show their bodies, they won’t take off their towels at the beach or pool. It’s a shame because everyone can look good in a suit.”
