Kolkata V CSK Match Preview

2008-05-18T02:57:00.001-07:00

This is going to be a big game for both teams. While the winner won't necessarily be a certainty (esp. if it is Kolkata) for the semifinals, and the loser won't necessarily be out of contention (esp, if it is Chennai), the fact is that the balance will shift by a big margin depending on the outcome.

The biggest thing that Kolkata have going for them is the Eden Gardens factor. I think along with Shoaib it was the single most important reason for their win the other night against Delhi. The weakest link for them is their pathetic batting lineup and Chennai need to exploit this like Mumbai did yesterday.

Teams
For Kolkata Ganguly is the only hope as far as batting is concerned, maybe the odd innings by Hussey. I think it will be prudent to include a technically sound player like Taibu and bench the completely unimpressive Hafeez. The bowling however looks very good - maybe Agarkar will miss out again, and the spinner will get a chance given the nature of the Kolkata wicket.

So what can Chennai do ? Fleming's form continues to remain a worry. Should he be persisted with now that there are only 4 more games in the league to go ? Should he be allowed to come in at 3 or 4 ? Should Kapugedara be pushed up to open ? Will Raina finally play a defining knock ? Will Badri and Dhoni be able to continue their good run. The so-called strong batting is the main worry, though the bowling, as widely known, is thin. Is it worth it to bring back Ntini and sacrifise a batsman like Kapugedara ? All very interesting questions.

Revenge Battles
Ganguly v Joginder - Joginder dismissed Ganguly last time for a low score
Saha v Gony - Gony was hit but got Saha in the end
Saha v Amarnath - (if Amarnath plays), Saha got stuck into him last time
Hussey v Amarnath - Amarnath got him first ball last time
Hafeez v Amarnath - Another player that Amarnath got the better of
Shukla v Joginder

Mumbai Vs Deccan Chargers .Match Preview

2008-05-18T02:52:00.001-07:00

It must be difficult getting up to play after 8 defeats, but that is exactly what the Chargers will have to attempt to do tomorrow. Mumbai are on a roll and are massive favorites, plus they take on an opponent that won't necessarily be up for it but that by no means allows them to be complacent thanks to their slow start. Delhi's loss today might have given Mumbai breathing space but there is still a close battle between Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai for two semifinal slots.

Teams

While the Deccan Chargers famed batting lineup has failed miserably (Gibbs, Styris, Afridi have been failures of a titanic nature) it is their bowling and fielding that leaves a lot to be desired. With the exception of RP Singh, there is no quality in their bowling and one has to question how they can leave the likes of Vaas and Zoysa on the bench. With the Indian stars like Rohit and Venugopal doing fairly well with the batting it is probably time to pack up the bowling with foreigners and shed out liabilities like Gibbs, Styris and Afridi.

Bravo's loss will be a blow for the Mumbai Indians, but so long as Pollock and Jayasuriya are firing I don't think they have much to worry about. I also hear that Andre Nel is joining the team and that can be another massive plus. With Tendulkar bound to fire at some stage, it is all looking very rosy for the "Men in Blue". What will be interesting is who replaces Bravo for tomorrow's game.

Revenge Battles
Jayasuriya v Afridi - Afridi got him on his first ball last time
Uthappa v Afridi - Afridi dismissed him cheaply, too
Pollock v Bangar - Polly laid into Bangar before getting out to him
Nayyar v Afridi - Nayyar was one man who got the measure of Afridi
Nayyar v Zoysa - Zoysa got him with the bouncer
Gilchrist v Nehra, Pollock, Jayasuriya and Nayyar, all of whom he shred to pieces !!

You are Suspended.

2008-05-07T05:52:00.000-07:00

They are falling like nine pins. Players are getting banned, suspended and fined. They're blaming each other for using delaying tactics (in a 20 over game). Sachin Tendulkar meanwhile is still injured (and is being spared all this nonsense).

It emerged in the midst of SlapGate, that even though the IPL had all the trimmings - on field umpires, third umpires, fourth umpires and match referees, they didn't actually have a code for the referees to enforce. The garrulous Farrokh Engineer eventually used the ICC Code of Conduct in his ruling on SlapGate. It now appears that the IPL has appropriated the ICC's Code of Conduct for Players and Officials and further extended it beyond the ICC's wildest dreams. What we have, is the first ever instance of a referee suspending an umpire in a game of cricket! Farrokh Engineer has suspended the on-field umpire Pratap Kumar for heeding Sourav Ganguly's request to refer a disputed catch to the third umpire.

It began with this incident involving Shane Warne and Sourav Ganguly. Warne's side claimed a catch against Ganguly. Ganguly wasn't sure if it was clean, and didn't leave the wicket. The fielding side was convinced that it was clean, as was the square leg umpire (Rudi Koertzen, no less!). It all rested with the umpire at the bowler's end who needed to be convinced that the watch was clean. Now, if the umpire at the bowlers end was convinced that it was clean, he should have given the batsman Out. Usually, if the umpire at the bowler's end has been unsighted, he will take the word of the umpire at square leg. In any event, Ganguly requested that a referral be made (which he ought not to have done), and a referral was made.

So far so good. Farrokh Engineer has effectively ruled that Pratap Kumar went against his own better judgement and was influenced by Sourav Ganguly's request in making the referral. Is it really possible to prove that sort of thing? Also, if it is infact proved, is a suspension enough? Shouldn't Pratap Kumar get kicked out?

In any event, the most breathtaking thing here is that the Umpire has been dragged by the match referee into the fray, along with the players. This is unprecedented ground - where a referee sits in judgement of an umpire. Given Engineer's decision, why should he not suspend an umpire if a couple of LBW's are given wrongly, especially if in both cases, you have the batsman showing his bat to the umpire as the appeal was in progress (indicating an inside edge)? The whole premise of the Umpire, is that they are above the fray. They are not in competition with the players, and hence cannot be judged alongside the players. Referee Engineer has done just that.

Shane Warne's suggestion that Ganguly asked the Indian umpire to make the referral (as reported by Cricinfo), is dragging the whole matter down further into a charge of favoritism. Since the catch was taken by Graeme Smith, and the square leg umpire was Rudi Koertzen, why would a similar charge of favoritism not apply when considering the case of the square leg umpire immediately ruling that the catch was clean? This is especially interesting given that the third umpire, Asad Rauf eventually ruled in favor of the batsman, against Rudi Koertzen. With Farrokh Engineer enforcing his adopted British voice in the matter, what we seem to have is a perfect commonwealth brouhaha.

Of course, all these charges of parochialism are absurd, but that is what this seems to have descended into. The whole thing seems to closely resemble World Wrestling Entertainment, which resides deep in the bowels of Cable TV, with its make believe umpires and contests. The convenient application of the ICC's Code of Conduct to grant an element of seriousness to proceedings, coupled with the complete moral and logical relativism which marks Farrokh Engineer's treatment of the umpire, is just one more signal that the IPL is not serious about Cricket.

Kolkata Knight RIders Lose Again!!

2008-05-01T07:49:00.000-07:00

My favorite team being Kolkata Knight Riders could not get past Rajasthan Royals today and it is no less than frustating when i saw the match at my Tuition center..There has been many netizens rather Orkuttans commenting on Sourav Ganguly's poor form. However Today Sourav Ganguly took some time to read the wicket and played a T20 innings and scored his maiden Fifty ..With Ganguly playing well,KKR lost wickets in a hurry after he departed and The crucial stage could possibly be Laxmi Ratan Shukla's run out ..

Jaipur earlier put up a daunting target of 196-7 in their alloted 20 overs with one youngster probably taking away the match from the KKR team .Swapnil Asnodkar (60),Yousuf Pathan (55) and Ravindra Jadeja(33) rocked for the Jaipur Team and made life hard for the Kolkata Team..

Ganguly then opening with Salman Butt could not get off to a start as desired by the KKR team and the fans ..Salman Butt getting an inside edge and dragging the ball into the wicket courtesy Sohail Tanvir.

Ganguly however played some crisp shots and his timing as usual is world class and his innings had 2 sixes showing that the Best of Sourav Ganguly is yet to come. But their move to send Ajit Agarkar as a pinch-hitter worked to an extent as the pacer gave the visitors the much-needed flying start. Agarkar smashed two sixes in his 13-ball effort before Watson got him caught behind. And when new recruit Brad Hodge was unfortunately run out, Kolkata’s hopes were depended on Ganguly and Hussey.

Earlier, the Kolkata bowling, which looked formidable on paper with the inclusion of Umar Gul, took some heavy punishment as Jaipur's men with willows continued their super show in the IPL tourney. It were not the big names in the Jaipur camp that fired on Thursday with Graeme Smith and Shane Watson, the men in form, managing only two and zero, respectively.

After Smith and Watson played the protagonists in Jaipur's previous wins, it was time for the youngsters to come good.

Kolkata started off on a bright note after Jaipur elected to bat. Smith, who had two half-centuries in as many games in the competition, failed to get going this time around. Ishant Sharma cleaned up the South African skipper in the second over of the match.

But Kolkata failed to capitalise on the early jolt as Asnodkar took charge, flaying the famed Kolkata bowling.

Asnodkar reached his 50 off just 29 balls and helped Jaipur build the perfect launching pad for the home side. Manufacturing some lusty blows, the 24-year old opener put on 42 with Mohammad Kaif and 53 with Pathan, smashing 10 boundaries and one six.

The visitors struck back for a brief period in the middle with Umar Gul sending back Asnodkar and Watson, who fell victim to a horrendous leg-before decision.

But Pathan and Jadeja won back the momentum through some power hits. Though after a 57-run stand, Jadeja was sent back by Laxmi Shukla, Pathan did not relent. Pathan, like Asnodkar, brought up his fifty in 29 balls. It was not until the last over that Kolkata managed to get rid of Pathan, who fell for 55 off 33 with two towering sixes and six fours.

However all is not lost for the KKR team as if Luck favours the KKR team ,KKR could come up with amazing wins..And dont forget Sourav is a world class captain.

Delhi Daredevils Win

2008-05-01T07:40:00.000-07:00

Delhi Daredevils 191/5 in 20 ov beat Bangalore Royal Challengers 181/5 in 20 ov by 10 runs

It was A cracker of a match Yesterday although Dravid would be happier if he came off with a much needed win.Rahul Dravid played a good innings and along with Jaques Kallis took the Bangalore Royal challengers within shouting distance of a win..However The Pigeon was at his lethal best by picking up Four Wickets in Four Overs..Well Pigeon could still be playing International Cricket and be a headache for the Top Batsmen Today.Rahul Dravid must be thinking as to how to win a match as things are really getting out of hands.Vijay Mallya is second to none and hates losing and this could be Testing time for Vijay Mallya ..

However With Virender Sehwag right up there in terms of captaincy should be smiling as with every match a winning combination is being worked out which could spell trouble for the Other Teams..

The Bangalore Royal Challengers lost their fourth match of the IPL to the Delhi Daredevils by ten runs after a blistering innings from Gautam Gambhir and a four-wicket spell from Glenn McGrath. McGrath became the first man to pick up four wickets in the IPL while Gambhir continued his fine form for Delhi.

The match started with the toss and Bangalore captain Rahul Dravid called correctly and decided to field first. Dale Steyn started proceedings with the new ball with a tight opening over. But as is the trend with most T20 matches, the odd quiet over is duly compensated with the big-run over almost immediately. It was Zaheer Khan who suffered at the hands of the impressive Gautam Gambhir, who hit him for three successive fours when the bowler strayed on the pads too often.

His partner Virender Sehwag soon joined the party, once again going after Zaheer Khan depositing a short ball way into the stands over midwicket. Sehwag also hammered the next two deliveries for boundaries and Delhi were off to a flying start at 45 for no loss in 4 overs.

A brilliant piece of fielding from Ross Taylor at point, running in and hitting the stumps direct signaled the end of captain Sehwag for a quick fire 24 in 12 balls. Shikar Dhawan was the new man at the crease and the scoring was kept in check for a while. The singles were mixed with the odd boundary and the score moved on without too many risks being taken.

Left arm spinner Sunil Joshi came into the attack to bowl what was his only over of the innings. Gambhir and Dhawan hit him for one six each and the score got a move on at 138 for 1 in 14 overs.

The big hits continued from the bats of Gambhir and Dhawan, with the latter compiling a well made fifty before falling to a brilliant catch by Dravid diving low to his right. Gambhir continued his good form and he was unlucky to reach his century finally falling for 86. The Delhi Daredevils finished at 191 for 5, a tough ask for the Bangalore outfit.

The Royal Challengers needed a flying start to give them the confidence to chase a big total. But this was not to be as Praveen Kumar, a surprise pick for the openers slot, fell to McGrath in the very first over. The Uttar Pradesh all-rounder tried to flick the ball over midwicket but spooned a simple catch to Dhawan in the circle.

Much depended on Kiwi Ross Taylor, who was the best batsman on view in the Bangalore team so far in the IPL. He started with a flat six over long leg off the bowling off McGrath. Taylor made his liking for the midwicket area known to the opposition, aiming at that area off almost every delivery. McGrath got his man in the next over when Taylor slogged a slower ball into the safe hands of Dhawan at the square leg boundary. Jaffer followed suit soon, falling in the same over to McGrath.

Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid came to the crease and the two played themselves in without going for the big hits. With the asking rate climbing to over 10 runs an over, the risks were bound to be taken. Dravid and Kallis both tried to go after the bowling but they only managed to find the fielders. The frustration grew as the asking rate grew further, with only one over of significance bowled by Rajat Bhatia going for 14 runs.

Spinner Daniel Vettori was very economical, strangling the batsmen and not giving them any room to play their shots. The pressure created by him showed with Dravid being dismissed by McGrath in the 16th over off a leading edge to cover. At the time of DravidÂ's dismissal, the Royal Challengers needed 52 runs form 24 balls and this was a bit too much to ask from Kallis and the other batsmen to follow.

Kallis fell after being tied down by Daniel Vettori and a last over of 19 runs reduced the margin of defeat for Bangalore, but they will have to come up with miraculous performances to lift themselves from the bottom of the league.

Mumbai Lose Again!!

2008-04-28T07:08:00.000-07:00

What an Innings by Adam Gilchrist..Brad Haddin must be thankful To GOD that Adam Gilchrist called of retirement early as the way Gilchrist played yesterday was a mark of a marauder.Adam didnt play well in the first three matches as in the true sense one doesnt have time to settle down and one has to fire from the second ball if not the first one..VVS lAksman did play well but IT WAS Adam's innings which made him comfortable and he could play second fiddle and the way he wanted to play..With Herschelle Gibbs doing a piece of Commentary when speaking to Arun Lal during the match was speaking of 6 Sixes in a match and also pointed out that Adam could play well in the match and Herschelle got one of his predictions right..

However Mumbai looks in distress and with the next match versus the strong Sourav led team ,Mumbai would be hoping to win the match although chances against Kolkata Knight Riders seem to be at an all time low.

Adam Gilchrist ignited the DY Patil Stadium with the fastest century of the tournament as the Deccan Chargers raced to their first win. The battle between the two bottom-ranked teams was a no-contest once Gilchrist teed off, and Deccan charged to an emphatic ten-wicket victory in the first major game at the stadium.

Andrew Symonds had got a century off 47 deliveries the previous game but Gilchrist needed only 42 as he decimated the weak Mumbai Indians' attack on a small ground. The intent was aggressive right from the word go, and Gilchrist made use of short deliveries in the first over from Ashish Nehra, dispatching one over square leg and the other through cover point.

Pulls and cuts were played with ease as Mumbai's quicker bowlers erred in their length, and after six fours, Gilchrist hit his first six, lofting Sanath Jayasuriya over deep midwicket. Siddharth Chitnis, the off-break bowler making his Twenty20 debut, was spared by going only for 12 in the last Powerplay over, but Shaun Pollock, leading Mumbai in Harbhajan Singh's absence, was taken apart once the field restrictions were off.

Gilchrist savagely pulled Pollock over the deep backward square-leg boundary for consecutive sixes, the first bringing up his first Twenty20 fifty. The shot that followed pierced the off-side boundary, and Gilchrist then nonchalantly moved across the stumps to launch one over long leg, making it 23 for the over.

Abhishek Nayar's arrival was greeted with three sixes, the third over midwicket brought up the hundred, and more astonishing was the fact that he had reached the mark as early as on the stroke of the tenth over. From then on, victory was just a formality, and Deccan reached their target with 44 balls to spare, both indication of the fury that had been unleashed. At the other end, VVS Laxman scored just 36 in a stand of 155, easily the highest of the tournament. Mumbai might have been at the receiving end, but the home crowd too cheered what had been an enthralling innings. Ninety-six of Gilchrist's 109 came through boundaries, making it a busy day for the Deccan cheerleaders, who were sporting a new outfit.

A new home ground and a new captain surely didn't bring about a turn of fortunes for Mumbai, and Deccan justified Laxman's decision to field first by restricting them to 154. Laxman's captaincy had come under the hammer after three consecutive losses, but on Sunday he was right on the ball. He was quick to shuffle around his bowlers, who to their credit, backed up their captain's decision with some good bowling.

It was only the string of 30s from the middle order that helped Mumbai reach 154. Pollock made a run-a-ball 31 to revive the innings, but it was the quickfire 34s from Abhishek Nayar and Dwayne Bravo that ensured the Mumbai bowlers had a decent total to defend.

Sanath Jayasuriya and Luke Ronchi had failed to make an impression in earlier games, and they were kept quiet once again, despite the short boundaries, by RP Singh and Nuwan Zoysa. Ronchi hit three fours, but fell attempting to slash a wide delivery angled across from RP, edging straight to Laxman at slip.

Sanjay Bangar was brought on in the fourth over, perhaps to help Zoysa change ends, and Ajinkya Rahane, another Twenty20 debutant, pulled straight into the hands of Pragyan Ojha at deep square leg. The next move from Laxman though was a masterstroke. Shahid Afridi was brought on in the final over of the Powerplay, and he had Robin Uthappa caught behind. At the end of six overs, Mumbai were tottering at 27 for 3.

Jayasuriya had made only 4 of his first ten deliveries, and one pitched short from Zoysa fetched him his first boundary, which came off his 14th. But, once again Afridi did the damage, Jayasuriya got a top edge as he tried to power a googly through the leg side. The onus was then on Pollock to hold the innings together, but he too couldn't stay till the end.

Nayar smashed three sixes in his 19-ball innings, as 45 runs came in the overs 14 to 16. But he top-edged to Gilchrist while trying to hook Zoysa. Bravo too managed to find the gaps, and was out for 34 off the last ball of the innings as Mumbai finished on 154. However, with the form Gilchrist was in, even 254 would have been tough to defend for Mumbai, who now have four losses after four games, and sorely need Sachin Tendulkar to return.

Kolkata Lose Third Match.

2008-04-28T07:00:00.000-07:00

Matthew Hayden's second half-century of the IPL sealed an easy win.

I have always felt that it was a good result for Kolkata as there were some predictions making the rounds that those who win this encounter could get complacent in the latter stages and in a way Kolkata can now sort the weaknesses and play accordingly ...What was great was the dedication of Ashok Dinda who ran after every ball at sweeper and it was heartening to see his committment..Its absolutely amazing to see Wriddhiman Saha ,another local boy to come up with good performances.Anyway Dhoni's boys have done well and the next encounter between them could turn the tables ...And Sourav Ganguly will bounce back..

Chennai Super Kings went on top of the table after an efficient performance from the bowlers - reckoned to be the team's weak link - set up a convincing nine-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders. After Kolkata were restricted to 147, Matthew Hayden's superb unbeaten 70 ensured there were no hiccups in making it three wins out of three.

Jacob Oram and Muttiah Muralitharan were the stand-out bowlers for Chennai, but the Indian bowling contingent backed them up well. Oram nailed the explosive pair of Bendon McCullum and Ricky Ponting early to give the huge home crowd something to shout about. Muralitharan's restrictive spell - he finished with figures of none for 12 from four overs - then frustrated the visitors and ensured Oram's good work wasn't wasted.

Kolkata were reeling at 70 for 5 after ten overs, with all their marquee names dismissed, and in danger of getting bowled out without utilising their full quota of overs. Laxmi Ratan Shukla, though, ensured they avoided that embarrassment as his late-order hitting earned 39 runs off the last four overs.

The early impetus for Kolkata was provided by Brendon McCullum, who silenced the crowd with some brutal hitting. There were no half-measures as he raced to 24 off 12, reclaiming the orange cap for the tournament's leading scorer in the process, before holing out to Suresh Raina at extra cover off Oram. Ricky Ponting's dismal run continued, falling for a duck as he drove his first ball straight to Raina at cover.

Kolkata's other wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha took the baton from McCullum, making a streaky, quickfire 27 - a top-edge off Manpreet Gony flew over the wicketkeeper for four and a similar shot off the next ball went for six. His luck then ran out and he was bowled by a ball that jagged back in.

Despite losing wickets, Kolkata's run-rate still hovered around ten after six overs, and with David Hussey and Sourav Ganguly in, a big score was still on the cards. The next four overs, though, emphatically handed the advantage to Chennai, as only 11 runs were given away and both Hussey and Ganguly were removed.

Ganguly, who had been starved of the strike when McCullum and Saha were blazing away, was cramped for room by Muttiah Muralitharan's leg-stump line and struggled to get the ball away. He finally fell for a scratchy 12, in the 10th over, gifting a catch to S Badrinath at cover after failing to pick a slower one from Joginder Sharma.

For a team which has run up scores over 200 in both their games so far, this was a straightforward chase. Hayden and Parthiv Patel, while not at their fluent best, put on the biggest opening stand of the tournament as they motored to 66 in 8.2 overs, peppering the offside boundary. While this was nearly the same number of runs Kolkata had managed at a similar stage, by keeping their wickets in tact, Chennai made sure they were well in control of the game.

Ajit Agarkar then demonstrated his penchant for taking wickets again, getting Patel to top-edge a catch to Ishant Sharma at fine leg. Hayden had struggled early on with his timing but soon displayed his trademark power-hitting, going on to his second consecutive fifty. He and Dhoni, who promoted himself to No. 3, eschewed the risks and calmly chipped away at the target, never allowing the run-rate to get out of hand. Towards the end, with the result beyond doubt, they opened up to take Chennai home with 19 balls to spare.

THE business of IPL

2008-04-23T11:03:00.000-07:00

Cricket is a sport that to me is played in the Subcontinent..The emotions ,the drama and the scornful remarks that the cricketers have to face are unimaginable more so In India.Cricket was always special to India starting from Maharaja Ranjit Singhji who played for England in late 1800s and then India winning the Prudential World Cup in 1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev made Indians proud of their overseas victory when India during those times were looked down upon by the West and when the first Maruti 800 Car was rolled out which was considered as royal luxury then.India then got more and more recognized and while other sports dwindled in the international circuit ,Cricket never took a backseat..

Money was a big hurdle but Jagmohan Dalmiya changed this during the 1996WC where television rights proved to be a money spinner and from then on BCCI is now among the richest sporting bodies in the world.

Underpaid athletes and maladroit administration ensured that sports other than cricket didn’t get enough public interest ..The fact that recently India failed to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and I am talking about the hockey team will obviously ensure that the public stays hooked on to cricket as there is no other alternative where Indians can proudly say “Jeetega bhai Jeetega India Jeetega”

The English premier league is very popular in urban areas of India which shows that with the right package and the right people and a visible scope of rooting for a team ensures that any sport under any format is and can be a success.

Cricket has now entered the entertainment industry and with integration of media and sports Cricket has turned into a industry by itself where anyone associated with it certainly ends up making munificent amounts of Money .Cricket may lose its originality with Test cricket being in the sidelines and 50-50 cricket also being given less importance ..20-20 cricket which has different connotations and one being Chaddi cricket could either revolutionize the 22yard game or prove a disaster if not managed properly in collaboration with the best brains in the business and the former cricketers keeping aside Ego and other obstacles that could jeopardize Cricket.

With money pouring in from all possible revenue generators ,sponsors in their hunt for maximum visibility with a great brand usually laoth from infusing money in other sports which indirectly lose out in the battle in the survival of the fittest which in this case is Cricket.

In other countries,Football is religiously followed although there is sufficient craze for other sports too..In the US,baseball is a huge game whereas back home in India baseball events In the US is not even aired in India let alone people being aware of the game.Basketball is another sport where players become household names and I was a big fan of basketball and it was only later I loved cricket more than anything else simply because we had a basketball court in school and I was a part of the strong basketball team where everyone aspired to play for La Lakers or Sacramento Kings .

In the UK,John Wilkinson was all over British papers as he was the main man behind England’s success in the Rugby world cup in 2006.Now how many of you know that Rahul Bose who is a well known actor in Bollywood is the captain of the Indian Rugby team..

Countries across the world have a sporting culture which Indians are deprived of.Most of the Breaking news in News channels is associated with Tendulkar reaching a fifty or Ganguly being dropped from the ODI squad which ceases to amuse me as I myself swear by cricket.

Now Lalit Modi being the IPL Commisioner who is being credited with making billions of dollars even without a single bowl being bowled might destroy the White Attire cricket from the game may be 20 years down the line in an effort to make colossal amounts of money and globalise the game .I myself is in an tricky situation as I want more countries to take part in this game of cricket and dream of a Brazil playing Against India with cricket being a global game but at the same time I would also want to see the Likes of Sourav Ganguly scoring a classy 87 on a dusty and variable bouncy pitch where other batsmen find it difficult to hang around.

But the IPL fever Is catching on.Did the Ipl fever catch you or are you waiting for the next test match to be played ? please do write your comments and suggestions for my blog and certainly bookmark it for new updates and articles.

Mumbai Indians.

2008-04-23T11:02:00.000-07:00

The Mumbai Indians team was the most expensive team and the owner of the team is the Second Richest Indian and he is none other than Mukesh Ambani according to the latest Forbes Rankings. The Mumbai Indians have the most prized possession in the form of Sachin Tendulkar and with the presence of Harbhajan Singh ,Robin Uthappa and Sanath Jayasuriya Mumbai Indians could find themselves at the top of the IPL standings if most of these star performers click together.

The Mumbai Indians have not won the first match against the Royal Challengers which is disappointing but the Tournament is long so there is every possibility of making a strong comeback.

I would like to pick my Fab Five who could make a difference for their team during the 45 day extravaganza.

1.Sachin Tendulkar-

Sachin Tendulkar is synonymous with Cricket just as Pele is to Football..Sachin Tendulkar by the time he retires would break and set records which would be close to impossible for the future cricketers to overhaul.Sachin has the most number of centuries in both forms of the game and he also is the leading run scorer in ODIs and is on the verge of surpassing Brian Lara for the most runs in Test Cricket.Sachin has some unfinished business in the shortest version of the game and he would be itching to do well.Sachin could also be handy with his off and leg breaks and add some variations to the team apart from leading the Mumbai Indians side.

2.Sanath Jayasuriya-

He has been for many years now the bane of the bowlers world wide, more so the Indian Bowlers ,especially between 1996-2002.The great Sri Lankan will be the dynamite on which the Mumbai Squad will he hoping to explode .Jayasuriya can hit on the up,cut over point for six, loft the bowlers over the head and play the trademark flick over square leg for a six..More than the runs he can put up on the board ,it is the devastating manner in which he can score them can puncture the confidence of the bowlers .He is also a regular spinner which means more spin options for the Mumbai Team.

3.Robin Uthappa-

One of the stars for India in the T20 WC in South Africa,Uthappa can delight and destroy. If he holds back his instinct of shuffling too much early on which makes him a candidate for an LBW then he can really take away the game from the opposition Team and smack balls at will regularly out of the park.Uthappa is a brilliant fielder too which can certainly keep the running of the opposition batsmen in check.

4.Harbhajan Singh-

Harbhajan Singh is coming off a very successful tour of Australia .He might have some acrimonious relationships with the Aussies but that could be a great motivating factor in bringing out the best in him when he bowls against Symonds especially.Harbhajan could be a handy bat apart from his economical bowling so don’t be surpised if he does a cameo and powers his side to a win .
5.Lasith Malinga-

Lasith Malinga was one of the stars of the 50-50 WC 2007 and his slinging action caused lots of trouble for even the Top batsmen to play .Lasith Malinga could be a handful as his quick pace and his ability to reverse swing the ball could drive the batsmen to play silly shots and gift their wickets..

2008-04-23T11:00:00.000-07:00

The Kings X1 Punjab was roped in by a consortium of investors which included Ness Wadia who owns the Bombay Dyeing Group as well as the Britannia brand of Biscuits ,The Apeejay Surrendra Group and to give it the glam quotient Preity Zinta came in.The Kings X1 Punjab has a good mix of local talent like Karan Goel and 20-20 specialists like Yuvraj Singh in its ranks.

I would like to pick my Fab Five who could make a difference for their team during the 45 day extravaganza.

1.Yuvraj Singh-

The dashing left hander who is the captain of the team as well will be its lynchpin ,Yuvraj is possibly the most explosive batsman in this format of the game. His exploits in the T20 World Cup are still fresh in public memory. From 20 T20 games Yuvraj averages 28.05,but his strike rate of 139.11 that makes him a potent weapon.

2.Brett Lee-

The 31 yr old Aussie fast bowler is the best in the business.Over the years,Lee has developed into a complete bowler who can move the ball both ways without cutting down on speed. He also possesses a well concealed slower delivery which is a pretty handy ball when the batsmen go for the leather.Lee will be the spearhead of the team and in current form could be a devastating in the IPL.

3.Kumar Sangakkara-

Coming into the Sri Lankan side as replacement for Romesh Kaluwitharana, the 27 year old wicket keepers batsmen has carried the legacy of the island nation churning out explosive players who excel in dual roles. His strike rate of 142.39 in T20 ,which is even better than Yuvraj’s ,is a testimony of his talent in this format of the game.

4.S Sreesanth-

S Sreesanth is known for his dancing moves and his angry young man look but he certainly is no stranger when it comes to picking up wickets with the seam position upright which makes him a dangerous bowler to play when he gets it right. He is wayward at times but no one can discount on the breakthroughs he can provide during crucial stages of the match. He would form the pace attack along with Brett lee and hope to create havoc on opposition ranks.

5.Ramnaresh Sarwan-

Sarwan is riding high on his success as he scored some important runs and played a crucial role in beating Sri Lanka back home.Sarwan might not be the dasher but he certainly can add that element of solidity in the middle order .Ramnaresh is also quick on the field and could add zing to the team which is lacking in other teams.

Kings X1 Punjab Squad-

Captain- Yuvraj Singh

Indian Players-Irfan Pathan,Piyush Chawla,Sree Santh,Ramesh Powar,Sahil Kukreja,Wilkin Mota,Yash Gandhi,VRV Singh,Karan Goel,Uday Kaul,P Dharmani,Sunny Sohal,T Srivastava,Ajitesh Argal,Rishi Dhawan,Mohd Mudasir,Nitini Saini.

Royal Challengers Squad

2008-04-23T10:59:00.000-07:00

The Royal Challengers Might be named Royal But the team composition is far from being Royal .Picked up by the Liquor baron Dr Vijay Mallya ,The Royal Challengers team didn’t spend their money well as the team mainly comprised of players not suited for the shortest version of the game mainly because of their classical style of play. The Team has an acute shortage of players who can really slog although Misbah Ul Haq and Cameron White are proven T20 performers .The absence of allrounders could pose a problem for the Royal Challengers.

The Royal Challengers should be looking for a top 4 finish at the least but winning the championship could be a tough task .

I would like to pick my Fab Five who could make a difference for their team during the 45 day extravaganza

1.Misbah Ul Haq-

The cool and calm Pakistan Player was left out of the first round of the player’s auction. One bad shot prevented him from being the Hero of Pakistan and the Player of the Tournament..The Right Hander is innovative in the way he devices new shots and can up the ante at will.Misbah has an average of over 50 from nine T20 internationals with a strike rate of 127.

2.Mark Boucher-

Mark Boucher has been a name to reckon with as he has had a fantastic wicket keeping record and to further add to his CV his batting is good as any regular batsmen and he has been the cornerstone of the South African Team .He played a crucial role in chasing down the 434 total set up by Australia and his brisk scoring has made him an indispensable player. He has a strike rate of 84 in ODIs which goes to show how handy a player he can be down the order .

3.Praveen Kumar-

He’s the new face donning India colours and one of the success stories of the Tri- series triump Down Under. An exceptional swinger of the new ball ,be it red or white ,he was snapped up by the Bangalore team which seemed to be one of the positives in the selection process.Praveen comes from a family of westlers and his built certainly suggests his rich sporting lineage.Praveen also knows how to swing the bat and could be a handy player for the Royal Challengers.

4.Cameron White-

Cameron White has quite a big reputation Down Under and until that splendid innings by Brendon McCullum the other day Cameron White held the highest score in a T20 match.Cameron White could be a major player for the Royal Challengers as his phenomenal strike rate of 200 could push any opposition to the brink of defeat. He is also a handy spinner so could be a great bonus to the team.

5.Dale Steyn-

Dale Steyn recently climbed atop the Test Rankings for Bowlers following his impressive performance during the last year or so..He was the only bowler who kept on bowling at excess of 140 kph even under searing hot conditions during the recently concluded India-South Africa series.Dale Steyn because of his sheer pace could unsettle the batsmen early on and by the time the batsmen reads him well he might have well completed his quota of four overs and place The Royal Challengers at a comfortable position.

The Royal Challengers Squad-

Captain-Rahul Dravid

Indian Players-Anil Kumble,Zaheer Khan,Wasim Jaffer,Praveen Kumar,Sunil Joshi,B Akhil,Vinay Kumar’Devraj Patil,Bharat Chipli,KP Appanna,B Arun Kumar,Virat Kohli,Srivats Goswami.

Overseas Players-Jacques Kallis,Mark Boucher,Dale Steyn,Nathan Bracken,Cameron White,Shivnaraine Chanderpaul,Misbah-Ul-Haq,Abdur Razzaq,Ross Taylor.

Coach-Venkatesh Prasad.

Hyderbad Deccan Chargers.

2008-04-23T10:58:00.000-07:00

The Deccan Chargers is owned by the Deccan Chronicle Group and has some of the most dangerous group of marauding batsmen who can win the match for the Hyderabad Team anyday. The Team comprises of the most expensive overseas player in the form of Andrew Symonds and also has one of the all time great wicketkeepers Adam Gilchrist in their ranks .

The Hyderabad team is not done yet as of now as they also have the fastest centurion in the 50 over game who is known to us as Shahid Afridi and a young Mumbaikar who recently played a crucial role in India winning the Tri series in Australia in the form of Rohit Sharma. With RP singh and Chaminda Vaas to lead the pace attack for the Deccan Chargers ,Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings will have to slog out to capture the Title.

I would like to pick my Fab Five who could make a difference for their team during the 45 day extravaganza

1.Andrew Symonds-

Andrew Symonds was picked up by the Hyderabad team for a million dollars with a definite reason. He not only can tear apart any bowling any given day but also can roll over his arm and has an uncanny knack of picking up wickets and not to forget his above average fielding skills which makes him a trump card for the Hyderabad Team.He plays at an abnormally high pace in Test cricket and his batting style suits the shortest version of the game perfectly.Andrew Symonds could also unsettle the opponents by using his vocal cords too if needed.

Given the rancor and and bitterness during the Aus-Ind series two months back,he would certainly like to make amends in front of the Indian crowd and win over the hearts of the Hyderabadi team atleast.

2.Adam Glichrist-

Adam Glichrist retired both forms of the game after briefly holding the record for most dismissals only to be later outdone by Mark Boucher. The legacy that he has left behind is truly colossal and will always be remembered as a great gentleman who played in the spirit of the game although his fellow mates never backed of from “mental disintegration” of opponent players.Gilly has always played memorable knocks and his centurion knocks in the last Two 50-50World Cup Finals will go down in history as some of the best under pressure knocks.Adam Gilchrist being a very flexible player given the fact that he opens the innings for Australia in the ODIs and bats lower down the order will certainly be a bonus for the Hyderabad team.

3.VVS Laxman-

The captain has quite a few points to prove.the foremost that he can still carry his weight in the shortest version of the game. That he did not play in the 2003 World cup still rankles the right hander and so does the fact that he was ignored for the ODIs after the South Africa tour, where he was rushed in as the vice captain. He gets a chance to prove his disparagers wrong on many counts.

4.Rohit Sharma-

As I am writing this Rohit Sharma hits a magnificent 60 odd in half the balls faced and takes the Hyderabad to a total of respectability.Having cut his teeth on the competitive Mumbai grounds,he had the pundits effusive with his ability to soak pressure and proved the saying when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. The composure he has displayed in crunch situations is commendable.

5.Chaminda Vaas-

The Sri Lankan continues to flabbergast all with his longetivity. He has been an indefatigable performer ever since he made his ODI debut in 1994.Fourteen years is a long time in international cricket and it is a tribute to his fitness and skill that continues to contribute handsomely to the team’s cause. The Lankan would be looking to make an early impression in the league .

The Deccan Chargers Squad-

Captain-VVS Laksman

Indian Players –Rohit Sharma,RP Singh,Sanjay Bangar,Y Venugopal Rao,N Arjun Yadav Dwaraka Ravi Teja,Pragyan Teja,Pragyan Ojha,D Kalyankrishna,P Vijay Kumar,Haladhar Das,Sarvesh Kumar.

Overseas Players-Adam Gilchrist,Andrew Symonds,Herschelle Gibbs,Shahid Afridi,Scott Styris,Chaminda Vaas,Chamara Silva,Nuwan Zoysa.

Chennai Super Kings

2008-04-23T10:56:00.000-07:00

The Chennai Super Kings was picked up by the India Cements Group. The Chennai Super Kings has a nice amalgamation of established international players like Muthiah Muralitharan and Matthew Hayden along with utility players like Jacob Oram and local Indian Boys like Suresh Raina and S Badrinath.

Chennai Super Kings has won several polls conducted in several News channels and websites as to “Which is the best team in IPL” and there is a strong possibility that Chennai Super Kings Under the Leadership Of MS Dhoni could play at the finals in Wankhede.

I would like to pick my Fab Five who could make a difference for their team during the 45 day extravaganza.

1.Matthew Hayden-

He was the highest scorer in the 50-50 WC 2007 and bullied the bowlers with his dominating and attacking style of play.He was 35 then but he shows no signs of stopping .Matthew Hayden in the recent India Australia Series was the highest scorer for Australia and proved to be quite a thorn in India’s flesh to get rid of.Matthew Hayden scores at breathtaking pace and if he stays on for the first half an hour Chennai is already on the driver’s seat for sure ..

2.Muttaih Muralitharan-

Muttaih Muralitharan could turn the match on its head given his spin wizardry and if he gets his doosra right ,I wouldn’t be surpised if Batsmen retire with their bats up in the air.I haven’t come across Murali being hit for a six at ease by any batsmen and it would be interesting to see many interesting shots being invented to combat Murali better.Murali has always been the trump card for the Sri Lankan Captains and once Murali gets going ,he bags quite a lot of wickets .

3.Jacob Oram-

The swash buckling allrounder would be a regular for the Chennai X1 as he is fluent with both batting and bowling. His Big Hitting came into the limelight during the 50-50 WC 2007 when he took many a great bowler to the cleaners .His bowling has also been top notch picking up wickets at important junctures. His allround ability makes him indispensable to the team and its fortunes.Jacob Oram could come in handy if he bats at lower middle order or during the last five overs of the Team’s innings as he could up the ante at will and try hitting sixes as a warmup session for his bowling spells ..

4.Michael Hussey-

Michael Hussey has the highest Test average of around 80 which is only second best to Sir Don Bradman.Michael Hussey took the place of Michael Beven and there were many question marks about the selection criteria but Michael Hussey showed character and his consistent performances have made him an essential member Of the Australian Squad in both forms of the game.Michael Hussey has had a good series back home versus the Indians and his discerning brain makes him a good candidate for the middle order position .

5.Makhaya Ntini-

The Most loved Sportsperson back home at South Africa could be the bowling spearhead for the Chennai Super Kings .His experience and his good pace could prove to be quite a handful for the opposition teams as they try figuring out how to play him better.Makhaya would be banking on his vast levels of experience to get the better of the other teams and given his level of professionalism ,Makhaya could strike early during the innings and provide the perfect platform for Murali to rip through the middle order.

Chennai Super Kings Squad-

Captain-MS Dhoni

Indian Players-Parthiv Patel,Joginder Sharma,Suresh Raina,Lakshmipathy Balaji,S Badrinath,R Ashwin,Sudeep Tyagi,S B Jakati,S Vidyut,Abhinav Mukund,Napoleon Einstien,Arun Kartik,Jaydev Shah,S Suresh Kumar,P Amarnath,Anirudha Srikkanth.

Overseas Players-Matthew Hayden,Mike Hussey,Stephen Fleming,Jacob Oram, M Muralitharan,Albie Morkel,Makhaya Ntini.

Coach-Kepler Wessels.

Rajasthan Royals Squad.

2008-04-23T10:55:00.000-07:00

Rajasthan Royals was snapped up by the Emerging Media and it turned out to be the most inexpensive franchise.

Lalit Modi being the Commissioner of the IPL and also being the Head of the Rajasthan cricket Team thought of floating a Rajasthan Team.but The Rajasthan team lacked ownership which had buffer cash in its reserves and also the acumen to get the best cricketers suited for the T20 game .Although the Jaipur Team has an attacking player in the form of Graeme Smith ,the rest of the player just make up the numbers .

I would like to pick my Fab Five who could make a difference for their team during the 45 day extravaganza.

1.Graeme Smith-

Graeme Smith recently overtook Hansie Cronje to become the highest capped player as a captain for South Africa.Graeme Smith has been an able leader and under his leadership South Africa climbed atop the Team ODI rankings twice and is currently the NO 1 TEAM in ODIs which is a commendable effort.Graeme Smith is an attacking player and likes to dominate the proceedings which makes him the most valuable player for Rajasthan as he recently broke the highest opening stand with Neil Mckenzie against Bangladesh..

Graeme could provide the initial firepower for the Rajasthan team and his innings could be crucial for the Desert Team.

2.Yousuf Pathan-

Yousuf Pathan is the elder brother of his more famous sibling Irfan Pathan.Yousuf Pathan has done exceedingly well in the Ranjis last year and was the main reason for Baroda reaching the semi finals .He struck a couple of centuries and also took five wicket hauls which catapaulted Baroda his home state atop the Group B standings.Yousuf Pathan played in one T20 international match during the World Cup and scored some 10 odd runs but a huge six was enough to suggest an upcoming talent was gearing up to be playing for India some day in the future in Test and ODI cricket on a regular basis.

His allround abilities make him a good value addition to the beleaguered Rajasthan team.

3.Shane Warne-

Shane Warne is one of the greatest spin bowlers of all time.He has had his share of controversies although his on field performances has earned him the respect of many great players .Shane Warne given his cunning style of bowling could be a major threat to opposition batsmen but his inexperience at the T20 level and his average performance in ODIs could be a loophole that could give his rivals camps a sigh of relief.

4.Morne Morkel-

Morne Morkel has been a great find for the South Africans and his recent performances against India in Indian conditions could prove to be a huge advantage for Morne Morkel.Morne Morkel could be a major nuisance for the batsmen if he uses his height to his favour. He already being accustomed to Indian conditions has gained invaluable experience and his bowling action being economical could frustrate the batsmen and force them to play risky shots and eventually bag wickets .

5.Mohammed Kaif-

His recent batting performances led UP to many memorable victories including his performances in the Duleep Trophy. His captaincy is top class although untried at the international level mainly because he found himself to be out of favour with the National Selectors. He recently got a India call up which could boost his confidence just before the IPL gets underway. He is the priciest Rajasthan player and he would be willing to justify his price. His fielding skills is something which every Indian player wish for and therefore his dexterity in the field could be a deciding factor and don’t be surpised if he takes a couple of wickets courtesy run outs effected by him.

Rajasthan Royals Squad-

Captain-cum-Coach-Shane Warne

Indian Players-Mohd Kaif,Munaf Patel,Yousuf Pathan,Pankaj Singh,Siddharth Trivedi,Swapnil Asnodkar,Neeraj Patel,Mahesh Rawat,Ravindra Jadeja,Taruwar Kohli,Sumeet Khatri,Anup Revandkar,Dinesh Salunkhe.

Overseas Players-Graeme Smith,Younus Khan,Shane Watson,Dmitri Mascarenhas,Morne Morkel,Kamran Akmal,Sohail Tanveer,Justin Langer.

Kolkata Knight Riders

2008-04-23T10:54:00.000-07:00

The Kolkata Knight Riders Team was bought by SRK or Shah Rukh Khan and I do not need to say anything about King Khan who is just all over Television these days riding high on the success of CHAK DE! INDIA and OM SHANTI OM..

The SRK mania still lives on and with SRK at the helm of the KKR TEAM expect some full on entertainment and if the KKR video is anything to go by ,IPL has certainly been encroached by the Bollywood bigwigs. The Kolkata team is a star studded one and with Young guns like Ishant Sharma leading the pace attack and Veterans like Sourav Ganguly slated to open the batting for the Kolkata team,Don’t be surprised if the SRK-DADA team win the IPL .

I would like to pick my Fab Five who could make a difference for their team during the 45 day extravaganza.

1.Sourav Ganguly-

Sourav Ganguly is currently the best batsmen in the world given his stupendous form in the last 16 months .Be it dust bowls or bouncy pitches ,Sourav has stamped his class and has shown his spirit of Dadagiri all over the world with renewed vigour .Although T20 could be a format that Sourav might face some snags early on ,it is not his batting quality that makes me pick him ahead of all others but it is his Leadership qualities that could prove to be a major factor swinging the balance in favour of the Kolkata Knight Riders team..His superior comeback skills is also a great quality that would get absorbed by his teammates and expect strong fightbacks from the Kolkata team even when the team is on a major backfoot. His superior understanding of cricket made the other team owners envy as the Kolkata team picked up star and efficient cricketers whose game is perfectly suited for the T20 format.Ganguly’s mental game is so superior, I find it difficult to comprehend as to how the other teams would outdo Ganguly and his team..

2.Chris Gayle-

He is the only centurion in the T20 international format of the game .He struck a whirlwind century in the first game of the T20WC 2007 and could be the dangerman and someone whom the opposition teams would go on overdrive to configure a plan for him to better understand his strengths and weaknesses.Chris Gayle is sort of a bully and his dominating presence would strike fear in any opposition camps and his strong all round play could be a major headache for the rival camps. He is also known for his GOLDEN ARM as he strikes at important junctures and it is this allround ability of his that Sourav could use to great lengths and more importantly give that added zing to the team.

3.Brendon Mccullum-

He is the most expensive player from the Black Caps and Sourav certainly is a shrewd campaigner to understand a player’s worth. The New Zealand Keeper has had a fantastic 2007 and a major pain for Australia .Brendon McCullum could come in handy in the closing stages if he doesn’t open for the Kolkata Team.As I am writing this he scored the highest score in a T20 game and proved his worth and his callous batting could spell doom for the opposition bowlers as he moves on to gear 6 from the first ball itself .Brendon McCullum is also a very good wicket keeper as he can extend the batting lineup for the Kolkata Knight Riders Team.

4.Ishant Sharma-

He is India’s great Australian discovery. He is the only bowler who swung the favour in India’s balance during the Australian Tour and his rising delivery that comes into a batsman is a major worry for the world’s greats which Ricky Ponting got a taste of.He was India’s highest wicket taker in the Australian ODI series and his ability to bowl express fast is a major bonus and he will be the bowling spearhead for the Kolkata Knight Riders Team .So expect Ishant Sharma to pose quite a lot of problems for the likes of Sachin Tendulkar or a Rahul Dravid.

5.Laxmi Ratan Shukla-

He made his debut for India at a very young age of 17 and since then Lady Luck seems to have frowned upon him .It has been 9 years since his debut and now at still a young age of 26 he could be itching to prove his value at such a stage .He has been a prolific scorer for the past 2 months and scored heavily in the run up to IPL.His Big hitting is not known to everyone and don’t be surprised if you see him scoring at breathtaking pace.He is also a good bowler and his allround abilities add an extra option for Ganguly to utilize in a tactical manner.

The Kolkata Knight Riders Squad-

Captain-Sourav Ganguly

Indian players-Ishant Sharma,Akash Chopra,Ajit Agarkar,Murali Kartik,Iqbal Abdulla,Siddharth Kaul,Cheteshwar Pujara,Yashpal Singh,Laxmi Ratan Shukla,Sourashish Lahiri,Rohan Banerjee,Debabrata Das,Wriddiman Saha.

Overseas players-Chris Gayle,Brendon McCullum,David Hussey,Shoaib Akhtar,Ricky Ponting,Umar Gul,Tatenda Taibu,Salman Butt,Mohd Hafeez.

Coach-John Buchanan.

Delhi Dare Devils Squad.

2008-04-23T10:50:00.000-07:00

The Delhi Daredevils was bought by the GMR group, which recently won the contract to build the Delhi airport, and is moving up the ladders in the infrastructure industry. Not getting too much into GMR, the Delhi Daredevils has a good combination of attacking batsmen and economical bowlers.

I would like to pick my Fab Five who could make a difference for their team during the 45 day extravaganza.

1.Virender Sehwag-

He is the only Indian to score 2 triple hundreds in the longer version of the game and he is part of an exclusive club with a membership strength of 3 which includes Brian Lara and Sir Don Bradman..But the thing that sets him apart is that he is the fastest TRIPLE CENTURION and the way with which he wields his weapon and bulldozes bowlers all over the park is something which only VIRENDER SEHWAG could do.So expect some pyrotechnics in full flow when he dazzles the crowd all over the world with his merciless batting .

And don’t forget he was the first captain to lead India in a T20 international and the result didn’t disappoint him too.

2.Shikhar Dhawan-

He was the star of the U-19 world cup and his meticulous batting display top of the order during the tournament earned him a place in the Delhi Ranji Side.He recently struck three figure scores in the domestic circuit and in the absence of Virender Sehwag [who was on national duty fighting it out against the Australians a couple of months back] made a puissant combination with Gautam Gambhir for the Delhi Ranji Side which explains Delhi’s Success at the Ranjis last year.

A young talent and IPL could be the perfect springboard in his career to show his talent at the world stage and under the captaincy of Viru could come up with strong performances.

3.Manoj Tiwary-

Manoj Tiwary has been a star in the domestic circuit for a couple of years now.Strong Individual performances backed with some good team work ensured Bengal reach 2 finals in three years although 2007 was disappointing by his standards. He had an average of 99 odd in the Ranjis in 2006 and followed it up with notable performances in Duleep Trophy and The One dayers and earned a call in the India 20-20 squad for the 2007 World Cup..But a shoulder injury kept him away from the limelight for quite some time. Many say he was an expensive buy for the Delhi DareDevils team but Manoj Tiwary with his attacking style of play and leg breaks in addition to being a good fielder could see him as a major player to shift the balances in favour of the Delhi DareDevils team at the IPL .

4.Gautam Gambhir-

Gambhir has certainly matured very fast and with sensible and consistent performances for the past 6 months, Gambhir has cemented his place at the ODI team and is breathing down the neck of Wasim Jaffer for the second opener’s slot..Gambhir was the architect of India’s success story at the T20 WC 2007 as he was the tournament’s second highest scorer and scored a crucial 70 odd runs against Pakistan in the T20 WC 2007 Finals.Gambhir doesn’t come through as a slam bang cricketer but looks deceive as he can up the ante once he gets his feet moving .Gambhir is one batsmen who along with Virender Sehwag would form an ideal mix of caution and aggression as an opening pair.

5.Glenn McGrath-

The Pigeon could be quite a handful for the opposition batsmen as history says he is the most economical fast bowler in the world .His immaculate line and length over and over again posed huge problems for batsmen during the 50-50 WC 2007 as he became the highest wicket taker in the series when cricketing pundits wrote him off.Glenn would look to leave an impression in the shortest format of the game and he is not someone who could be taken lightly by the opposition team..Glenn Mcgrath could turn out to be a star performer for the Delhi Daredevils team.

The Delhi Daredevils Squad-

Captain-Virender Sehwag

Indian Players-Gautam Gambhir,Dinesh Karthik,Manoj Tiwary ,Shikhar Dhawan,Rajat Bhatia,Amit Mishra,MayankTehlan,Mithun Minhas,Yo Mahesh,Pradeep Sangwan,Tejeswi Yadav,Yogesh Nagar.

Overseas Players-Glenn McGrath,A B de Villiers,Shoaib Malik,Mohd Asif,Tilekaratne Dilshan,Brett Geeves ,Daniel Vettori,Farvez Maharoof.

Club Or Country?

2008-04-23T10:48:00.000-07:00

Should IPL be given precedence over Country ?Andrew Symonds who provoked the ire of a billion people is the second highest paid cricketer is now part of the Chennai IPL team and shares the same dressing room with MS Dhoni who 1 month back tried to get justice for Harbhajan Singh..

Fast Forward>>Andrew Symonds Bowls outside leg and Sachin in the process of paddle sweep misses the line of the ball and the ball hits the stumps..

Venue-Wankhede-Will the Mumbaikars get furious and in the next match take a dig at MS Dhoni since Dhoni plays for the same team.

Venue-Madras-Will the Chennaites erupt with joy after the dismissal of Sachin or will they keep quiet..

These are the questions which will be answered in a couple of day’s time .The pride of playing for the country might see a new trend in the coming years with the advent of IPL.

The reason-Cash rich cricketers .

“I felt like a cow” Says Adam Glichrist during the bidding process and such is the fanaticism that the bidding process was shown live on SET MAX which also aquired the rights for airing IPL For $1 billion dollars.I was frantically searching for SET MAX to see how a bidding process looks like..So I have no complains as long as cricket matches and cricket news make up my holidays and invades my weekdays too.

Adam Gilchrist might have felt like a Cow but did he back off from the IPL ..No..

That is the magneticism of Money .Whoever you are ,Money is certainly a big factor that influences your decisions if not totally.

Getting back to IPL,SRK needs to be talked about as he is the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders team .SRK some months back sent the cash registers ringing by his iconic performance as a hockey coach in Chak De India! Has turned Mir Ranjan Negi into a overnight celebrity …such was the effect of SRK in the movie .He however changed loyalties and bought the Kolkata Team and he knew that cricket was the only sport where the money lies .

With The IPL being promoted by Bollywood superstars ,the general impression that I get is that IPL is no longer going to watched as a Cricket Tournament But as a alternative to the Saas Bahu sagas which later could have a telling effect on the way we see cricket..The IPL being a 20-20 format drastically reduces the skills that a batsmen might have or a bowler might have due to the length of the game and there is very little margin of error for a fightback once a team gets on the backfoot slightly whereas in Test Match Cricket it is quite the opposite where a Team has to consistently play well over 4 to 5 days to win the match .

The greatest paradox that is present with IPL can be explained in the case of Yuvraj. He was the Star of the 20-20WC 2007 by hitting massive sixes and who can forget his Six Sixes in Six balls in different areas of the ground.
Fast Forward>>2 months In Australia-He struggles in the Tests and is still struggling to get a firm holding in the Test Squad .His footwork goes horribly wrong and a string of poor scores ensures he is kept out of the Test X1 in the near term atleast.

What do I make out of this—Is he is suffering a shortfall in his batting skills ?

I don’t know since hitting Six Sixes in different parts of the ground against a fast bowler shows the enormous batting talent of Yuvraj ..However when he travels to Australia he simply cannot read the ball well enough and gets dropped eventually..

Its difficult to determine whether IPL is a true reflector of talent or is just TUKKA cricket which means Cricket by default ..As I Don’t see Rahul Dravid or Jaques Kallis or Shivnaraine Chanderpaul doing much in the team’s cause as technique is a certainly not an ASSET here .

It will be interesting to see whether Rahul Dravid or Sourav Ganguly makes a comeback to the ODI squad by their performances in the IPL or whether a relatively unknown Manoj Tiwary or a Suresh Raina takes the bowlers to the cleaners and sort of book a place in the regular X1 in the ODI squad.

I am pretty sure that IPL will be the biggest hit in Television and expect some shockers to come in the next month or so..I will be having my Sem Exams which will certainly endanger my chances of doing well in MY EXAMS but hopefully I will be able to do well

Wish me for my exams .LOL.hope you liked my article on IPL and if you want to contribute to my blog by writing articles please let me know in the Cbox or write it in the comments section.

Future Tours Programme?

2008-04-23T10:47:00.000-07:00

We all have been schmoozing about whether multitude of cricket fans would be able to connect to a cricket format, which has their favorite players once playing with each other trying to outdo other teams now using their skills and enthusiasm to outclass their former teammates .

Can the City based faithfulness be developed over a period of 1 month and be so effective that Team India takes a backseat for a while ?

We have been gabbing about the English Premier League or the EPL going down really well with the fans and a format that could win over non cricket fans too..But we overlook that EPL is a League that has been played for close to a century now and the allegiance for the respective teams have been ingrained in their haemoglobin.

The TV Ads that have been doing the rounds certainly deserve some kudos in invoking some passion about one’s city but still a lot needs to be done to ensure city based devotion comes across. As I Am writing this three days of IPL are already over and going by the jam packed crowd IPL certainly has a great future.Cricket has now integrated with the glamour industry and with two of India’s all time favorite pastimes amalgamated The TRPs for IPL could hit the roof .And as far as early reports go TRPs of IPL have outshone that of the World Cup and that too without invoking jingoistic passion.

The Kolkata Knight Riders with two wins in the bag and being the most glamorous team with SRK at its helm and the most successful captain of India and the comeback king Sourav Ganguly leading the team,The kolkata Knight Riders is certainly calling the shots on and off the field.

Today is 21st April and on 20th April the EDEN was crammed and buzzing with cricket lovers and although a power failure that took the Nation by surprise it had absolutely no effect as SRK and his gang swayed the crowds with their exotic dance moves and clowning.

Again in the other match of the day ,Mumbai Indians disappointed as Royal Challengers won the cliffhanger. The turnout at the Wankhede didn’t disappoint and IPL is truly getting the youth and the old to swing to the cricket tunes.

IPL is certainly a newfangled idea and there will be always be those section of cricket lovers like ME who would want to watch all formats of the game as the sound of the willow is something blissful and this blissful feeling would never ebb even though Cricket is being tampered with to cater to new and wider audiences for obvious reasons.

News Channels had profitable shows on Cricket and almost all cricketing experts would give hackneyed analysis and the Pitch conditions ruling the agenda of their analysis ,IPL will surely change the way the Experts analyze a particular 20-20 cricket match as Pitch Conditions hardly play a part in the shortest version of the game and the strategy of a 20-20 match would remain undisicovered as none of the experts have played a T20 match before .So we can expect radical changes in the way T20 is spoken about and since cheerleaders are an integral part of a T20 match keeping the crowd entertained and lively expect some News Channels to sport a whole new look with some interesting value additions to keep the audience glued to post match analysis..

The Next Step For IPL to be a success beyond imagination ,it should be included in the ICC roster in its Future Tours Programme.

Just a few days back ,During an interview in a News Channel the Pakistan Cricket Board Chief had spoken about launching a similar cricket league in Pakistan and with Allen Stanford already backing a 20-20 league at the West Indies T20 could be a major breakthrough in terms of reaching out to time starved audience across the globe.

Test Cricket will die a slow death and by 2020 I envisage Test Cricket getting geared up for cremation and other incineration rituals .Many might argue that Test Cricket is here to stay but the reality is with Cricket boards getting avaricious including cricketers and other stakeholders ,T20 is going to reach an overdrive of sorts and without proper scheduling and a proper itinery being framed Test Cricket will have to die an unfortunate death.

What do you think? Is Test Cricket going to last beyond 2020.Send in your comments and please bookmark the page for regular updates on IPL and cricket in general.

Will IPL be a BLOCKBUSTER?

2008-04-23T10:45:00.000-07:00

Fast Food is catching up on India.McDonalds and KFC have envisaged lucrative markets In India’s booming economy. One of the reasons for its stupendous success is that we may have 24 hours a day but sans work and sleep we rarely have time to have a big meal three times a day.

This is why may be IPL is the need of the hour.Cricket is magnetic but how long can a young executive working in an MNC devote a day or even 5 days to watch his favorite players battle out on a 22 yard pitch .

The Billion Dollar baby as the media call it must be the most expensive baby in the world and there is still skepticism in the Air as to whether the baby would grow up to a healthy adult .With Lalit Modi looking after the baby one thing is for sure :The baby would certainly be well nourished ..

IPL may hurt traditional cricket as many commentators say. However IPL is the only medium which can take the game of cricket beyond the Indian sub continent.

Cricket is now evolving into something which the people yearn for. When I was in school ,I had to take holidays so that I could watch my favorite player Sachin play against the invincibles Australia and against the minnows Like Zimbabwe..But what about my Dad.He was not only interested in Sachin play but also the analysis shows that extended the program by a couple of hours .However He had to wait for a holiday or a good excuse to get a weekday off .His passion for cricket is still alive and IPL is just the right form of cricket for him to chill out and call over his friends for a cup of BEER.

I am in college But Thanks to St.Xavier’s College which has turned autonomous and with attendance levels at all time highs I restrict myself to watching the India’s batting that is if I do manage a holiday on that particular day .IPL will certainly fill up my evening slots and make sure I do not hang around in the virtual world for too long.

Test Cricket has its own place and when the 50-50 format was introduced ,various purists of the game feared Test cricket would be endangered if not extinct .But Test Cricket has certainly lost its sheen although the hectic schedule has ensured that Indians and cricket lovers get to see a cricket match every alternate day.

However with increased cricket and with “DIL MAANGE MORE” attitude among cricket lovers ,cricketers are finding it difficult to stay in fine fettle and the fact that Zaheer Khan who after winning the MOS in England in the Test Series in 2007 and Rp Singh suffering from an injury adding to a burgeoning list of injured lise of players goes to show that Cricket is being served to satiate the instatiable appetite of the Indian cricket lovers .

This shows that Cricket in any form would be a major success and The Commissioner of IPL certainly understood the psyche of the Indian people as those who watches Test Cricket will not mind at all watching 20-20 cricket although 20-20 cricket doesn’t give bowlers much of a chance as bowlers need to contain the batsmen and freeze the scoring rate if possible rather than going after wickets.

Imagine this :M Muralitharan completes his quota of 4 overs in one of the IPL matches

His figures stand as 50 runs and 3 wickets in his allotted 4 overs.

On the other hand Sanath Jayasuriya gets to bowl and his figures stand at 10 runs with no wickets in his allotted 4 overs.

In an IPL match ,who could be a matchwinning bowler ..Muthaih Muralitharan might have taken 3 wickets but that seems to be pale in comparison to Sanath Jayasuriya’s figures where he conceded only 10 runs .

So the IPL tournament would certainly add new dimensions to a player’s game which could prove to be essential in the long run.

In 1877 Test Cricket was introduced ,1971 One day Cricket was unveiled ,in 2007 20-20 took off with the WC being hosted right after the 50-50 WC and as I am writing this on a momentous occasion in the summer of 2008 IPL gets underway.

Who knows within 2 days of the tournament ,I might be sporting a new Kolkata Knight Riders T shirt which I hope would define my passion better in a non vocal way.The IPL if successful could be a huge blow to the culture of movie goers as Malls might face a dent in revenues in the next 50 days.

Will you sport a Mumbai Indians T shirt or A Kings X1 Punjab T shirt in the coming days.Send in your comments and valuable feedback as I come back everyday to hear from you hopefully and do bookmark an unadulterated blog for all the articles and voices from an passionate cricket lover.

Will IPL change Cricket?

2008-04-23T10:44:00.000-07:00

With the advent of IPL,the menu for a Indian has expanded which pretty much is a quickie munch .In the 1970s and 1980s Test cricket was like Rice for Indians and I denote them as Indians since one may not know Who is the president of India but be rest assured that Sunil Gavaskar or a Kapil Dev was a Demi God and still is quite revered by lending their voices and expertise about the game to whet up the enthusiasm of the game of cricket even more.

With the introduction of coloured clothing and limited overs cricket during the revolutionary Kerry Packer Series ,Cricket was given a new dimension.Gone are the days when our earlier generations planned their holidays around Test cricket and took a whole weekend off and
lazily crawled off their bed to do early morning chores ..

50-50 cricket became popular with the crowds thronging on to stadiums which earlier remained void and the introduction of 50-50 cricket got the enthusiasm rolling in and it came in a time when Cricket badly needed a changeover.

Imagine the scenes of the 1992WC with Pakistan lifting the WC after defeating England in flashy green attire and the stadiums teeming with cricket lovers and the emotions of the Pakistan Cricket Team.A distant cry from Test Cricket ,the Limited overs game turned out to Bread and Butter for Indians with only the purists sticking to having Rice .

One Day Cricket due to its late introduction in the International Cricket Calender unfortunately saw Sunil Gavaskar scoring only One Hundred in a hundred matches which in Today’s era is way below standard specially Since Top players like Sachin ,Sourav have notched up over 50 hundreds between them.

However Viv Richards burst into the shorter version of the game when he was midway in his cricketing career thus not being able to fully utilize his enormous skills over a longer period of time..He is the fastest to reach 5000 runs in ODIs and that is just one of the many justifications to call him one of the most feared Batsmen and All time Greats of the Game.

The 5 day game to me was/is a boon as I always wanted/want to play Test cricket with my friends as it gave/still gives me more opportunity to bat and once my eyes are set in I did/do not gave /give my wicket very easily .But the beauty of Test cricket is that the sound of the ball making contact with the bat is so magnetic that I keep on defending and my Individual score rarely crosses 50 and when I am ruminating about getting a big score ,a silly point is drafted in and invariably I put my pad forward and the ball kisses the bat and flies off to silly point.

So a Team might dominate the first session of the day’s play but the domination could evaporate quickly since its doesn’t take too long for the pendulum to swing in favour of the opposition team. This unpredictability lends Test Cricket with a disntinct piquancy.

But it also doesn’t take too long for the taste buds to be out of order and in such cases a new dish needs to be tried which came in the form of ODI cricket .ODI Cricker proved to a major breakthrough since almost every International Sport has a World Cup with Countries vying for top honours and thus evoking massive international interest.

A World Cup played over 5 days was absolutely inconceivable as the tournament would take up ¼ of the year to declare the winners which is absurd.

A more feasible alternative had to be ODI cricket and the World Cup was inaugurated in 1975 and it proved to me a major success and set the platform for future World Cup tournaments which was to be held every four years .

If the likes of Don Bradman,Sunil Gavaskar,Gary Sobers,Kapil Dev are synonymous with Test Cricket then Sachin Tendulkars,Sourav Gangulys and the Wasim Akrams are equivalent to ODI cricket.

Now a new form of cricket has evolved which can truly globalise the game of cricket and as the People are running out of time although the Earth Still completes a revolution around the Sun in 24 hours ,20-20 is the way forward .

Is 20-20 cricket going to be the most popular form of the game by 2020 ?Let me know by gushing in your comments and do boomark my blog for regular updates on IPL and obviously my amateurish articles.

Boring Names?

2008-04-23T10:41:00.000-07:00

Could The names have been more creative ?
Are we going to look at the ratings?
Will IPL be able to connect with you and me?

Some of these questions needs to be attended to be au fait with the Larger picture .Is IPL going to ensure that the fastidious franchisees are able to recover their money within a diminutive time period.

Vijay Mallya the liquor baron due to restrictions on advertisementsof his liquor products that ranges from whisky to IMFL or a Beer to a Wine has been scouting around for new marketing avenues .He Introduced the Kingfisher calender to place his brand at a favorable position and his effort did grab some eyeballs although the brand visibility was restricted to the upper echelons of the society. His next step was to Introduce Kingfisher Airlines as the brand sustained momentum and became a successful marketing initiative in the process.

But Vijay Mallya is certainly not one to be pleased with the success of marketing his brand to a niche product segment..He wanted the Youth to connect to the Kingfisher Brand and so he bought the Spyker Formula 1 team and renamed it Force India F1 team…But F1 is a sport which is miniscule in terms of reach and popularity In India where Television shops with transparent windows are crammed with teeming jingoistic crowd rooting for India which we call cricket.

And the Bangalore IPL team was snapped up by Vijay Mallya and he renamed it Royal Challengers..He in an effort to make his brand more visible named his team on a liquor brand, which might succeed in augmenting his revenues from the Liqour division, but at the end Does the name really sound appealing?

Well it’s a question that will be answered by the Bangaloreans and the Indian cricket lovers at large in the coming few months..

A similar illustration can be made with respect to the Hyderabad IPL team. The Hyderabad IPL team was picked up by the Deccan Chronicle group and obviously the publication group might have been ruminating over a possibility in expanding their reach to other fertile grounds in the north to ensure the shareholders remain invested with the company .With expansion being the keyword in any business ,Deccan Chronicle comprehended that stave off competetion from possible rival and established publication groups like the Hindustan Times and Times of India with loyal readership Deccan Chronicle either had the laborious option of building a loyal readership for themselves which at the least could put them off by a decade or to do something out of the box that their rival groups couldn’t envisage in the near future.

The Deccan Chronicle Group dug deep into their pockets and became the owner of the Hyderabad IPL team by forking out over $100 million dollars which could be a major breakthrough depending not only on the success of the IPL but also on the success of the Hyderabad team and as a result could make a big presence in untried markets .

However The Deccan Chronicle Group decided to name the Hyderabad team by retaining the prefix of their Flagship Brand Deccan Chronicle thus rechristening it The Deccan Chargers with a Bull incorporated to further reinstate the strength and might of the Brand “Deccan Chronicle” whose success will eventually rub off to its associate brands and publications of the Group.
The name might not be able to match with the energy ,originality and the simplicity of Kolkata Knight Riders but it still could be a sensation if it is able to BULLDOZE its way to the Top of the IPL championship.

The SRK Effect could not push up ticket sales in Kolkata which could mislead the investors and the sponsors connected with the game but with the media backing the IPL for obvious reasons ,the awareness has snowballed to gigantic proportions and it will not be too long before the cash registers start ringing for The Red Chillies Group.

With India’s Richest Man and India’s No 1 Entertainer in the scenario,IPL does show a lot of promise as Mukesh Ambani and SRK envisage a lucrative business opportunity and the IPL being aired at prime time ,Indian Television could see a new high and TRPs shooting over the roof ..

The India –Pakistan 20-20 Finals saw a TRP of 9 and emerged the best show if I may call it in TV and to put that to perspective India’s No 1 soap Banoo Main Teri Dulhaan after pipping Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi which rooled the roost for seven years and currently in the second spot had a TRP of 4 which shows why Cricket is a religion In India which appeals to the youth and the old rooting For a Sachin Or a Sourav Or a Rahul Or recently MS Dhoni.

In the coming months everything of my and your queries is going to be answered and I am pretty confident that IPL would transcend all boundaries to scale new heights .I hope you liked my 2 hour article and encourage me by bookmarking this blog or subscribe to my feed.

Loyalty In IPL?

2008-04-23T10:33:00.000-07:00

The scenes reminiscent to the 20-20 WC 2007 for me could possibly be Joginder Sharma Bowling to Misbah Ul Haq which I anticipated would be hit for a boundary but as if GOD had descended and changed the track of the ball in the air and Sree Santh picking up the catch at short leg .I could say that I erupted in Joy but I do not want to fib .As being a loyal Fan of Sourav ,I didn’t want Sreesanth to take the catch as I knew that if the MS Dhoni team did well It would be tough for the seniors to retain their place in the ODI team no matter who they were ..And 4 months later my envision turned true ..

Well not deviating much ,IPL could prove to be big minus to the Team India Spirit as Team India which recently Won in Australia and with the whole of India backing Harbhajan build enormous amounts of team spirit and unity .

The devotion towards playing for India could be put under the scanner by the IPL.The commitment towards a particular club may require time to be nurtured. However for die hard Sachin fans or Sourav fans like me it wont take even a micro second to root for Mumbai Indians or Kolkata Knight riders irrespective of which city one comes from .

Imagine this :

Sourav Ganguly was recently dropped from the ODI squad courtesy MS Dhoni.

Well if I was in Sourav Ganguly’s shoes and a human with sensible nervous systems,at the back of my mind I certainly would want to payback MS Dhoni and the IPL is certainly a perfect platform for me to do that where in the garb of IPL loyalties I can settle scores with MS Dhoni..

Sourav Ganguly bowling to MS Dhoni and MS Dhoni in his trademark helicopter shot hits it towards the sight screen and dropping just before the rope for a four.

MS Dhoni seems to enjoy this but what about Sourav Ganguly..Sourav Ganguly bowls a incoming delivery and Dhoni in an effort to pull the shot loses his wicket..

Sourav Ganguly erupts in Joy and the Eden goes haywire..WHAT A WICKET DADA!!!!!

Consequence:

Sourav Ganguly emerges as the TOP run getter in IPL but is not considered for the one day team as Dhoni is satisfied with the current crop of youngsters.

The team spirit is totally ruined and the same applies for other teams and the cricketers playing in it too.

Now the problem is if the IPL is able to generate emotions to dizzy heights ,Its only the Indian team that’s going to suffer.

The team spirit that was nurtured is totally fragmented ..Eventually what follows is a series of barneys and spats .

Well Australia has nothing to lose as their loyalties with their countries remain intact..What they get in turn in the weaknesses and strengths of the various players playing with them and a truckload of money .Ricky Ponting for instance might be a favorite among the Kolkata crowd provided he gels with the team quickly .However he could be ostracized among the Mumbaikars for instance ..Who knows Ishant Sharma who was touted as the next BIG THING in Indian cricket could also be black listed and The Indian team would be a team of individual cause rather than a team of common cause.

It Remains to be seen as to what ramifications the IPL has to the team spirit and loyalty and commitment of INDIAN players and hopefully the ill effects of IPL as envisaged by many cricket pundits and amateurs like me do not come true .In the Football World cup 2006 ,Christiano Ronaldo during the quarter finals was involved in a major brawl with Wayne Rooney which had a major effect on the result of the match and eventually Portugal reached the semi finals.

Christiano Ronaldo was reproached back In England and he was mulling of retiring from Machester United ..But Christiano mustered up enough courage and went back to play for Manchester United but soon became the most loved footballer in England by having a great season with the Red Devils.

So Loyalties can be altered among Indian cricket fans and it becomes difficult for a Indian to choose from a player or his/her country India.

Everything remains to be seen.Whom are you rooting for ?Let me know and subscribe to my feed for new articles and regular updates on IPL .
