Biojemmss has experienced a lot of activity in the last few months! There have been
trials, but also some breath-taking triumphs. We want to use this opportunity to thank
every single one of you for your prayers and for standing with us as we continue to seek
to change the nation of Uganda and see young people find hope again and step into
futures full of promise.
Malubya Peter
As many of you know, one of our older boys Peter took ill before Christmas. He was discharged from three different hospitals
unable to successfully treat him before being admitted and finally diagnosed with tuberculosis at Mengo Hospital, Kampala. Due
to the number of tests and trail treatments, Peter’s prognosis was bleak and the medical bill mounting. Biojemmss appealed to
supporters for financial support and managed to raise £1000 of the £1500 needed to continue his treatment. It was because of
these prayers and financial giving that Peter is now back at home with the family and resuming his difficult job of being a normal
teenager! Peter shared a testimony (you can find it on our Facebook page – follow this link: Facebook Page) last month
expressing how touched he was with the support and the number of messages he received explaining how it kept him going at a
time he felt alone in the face of death. We are also extremely grateful. Not only did it save Peter’s life but it showed him and the
other children here at Biojemmss that they are loved and cherished by people all over the world. Peter is now accessing free
treatment from Mengo Hospital and is on the mend. Please keep him in your prayers as he recovers and regains his full strength.
We thank you, our supporters, for your assistance during this trying time and pray God’s blessings upon you.
New House!
A new Biojemmss branch has opened in Busega, Kampala, in a rented property; it will be used as a transition house for the
young people in Biojemmss preparing to become independent. Biojemmss passionately believes in supporting young people until
they are ready and able to succeed and support themselves. A supported transition from the home is critical to ensure this
happens. There will be four young people living at the property supervised by Micah, the Assistant Manager.
Christmas 2012 at Biojemmss
We try to ensure that Christmas is a special time in the Biojemmss home, and this year was no exception! Christmas celebrations
may have been a little late due to Peter’s health emergency, but it was still one to remember. Siân spent 3 weeks in February
with the Biojemmss family where they celebrated together. We had a fun family day out to the Queen Elizabeth game park
thanks to the proceeds from our Christmas Appeal. Please check out our facebook page for footage of this outing. Each child
also received a present (and a stocking!) and we ate a special meal together. We are looking forward to a remarkable 2013 here
at Biojemmss!

New Family Members
We are pleased to let you know we have two new members to the Biojemmss family and they are settling in well. It will be
exciting to see them flourish, grow and realise their potential. They are both fully engaged in school and are healthy. More info
and full introductions to follow!
Biojemmss’ New Home in Kampala, and a Brian writes an Album!
We mentioned a while ago our plans for opening a transition house in Kampala. This would be used by the older Biojemmss
members who had finished their A-Levels and were working or attending University in the capital. This dream has now become a
reality! We currently have two young people in University, one young person with a part-time job as a gym instructor, and one
young person – Brian – releasing his first album! It is so encouraging for us to see the young people of Biojemmss believing in
themselves and following their dreams. Again we would like to thank all of you as this would not have been possible without
your continual support and giving. If you would like to buy a copy of Brian’s album, which we think you should because it’s
great(!), please email us at info@biojemmss.com.
Poultry Business
For the last 12 months we have been putting together a plan to start a poultry business in Uganda which is no small project. We
have successfully raised over £4000 to kick start the business. This endeavour will support the new branch in Kampala whilst at
the same time raise funds to help our older youth transition from school to University. The plan is that the older members living
in Kampala will take care of the project, helping them to learn invaluable employment skills. Please remember to pray for the
business as it starts to take shape.
Biojemmss’ Promotional Video
This month (April) we have released a new promotional video alongside an article in the Elim Direction Magazine. The video has
been filmed and produced by Jimmie Kamenye, a Ugandan local TV Producer and Director. The video is currently centre stage on
our Facebook page – please go and take a look and share it with your family/friends/congregations!
Final thoughts – Please Spread the Word!
As we’re sure you can tell by now, there is a lot going on at the moment here at Biojemmss. We have many new and exciting
things coming up, and a number of transitions that will drive us forward into the future. If you Tweet and Facebook please like
us, follow us and talk about us! We want to reach as many hopeless and broken children as we can and the more people that
know about us and support us the more children we can help give a bright future.
Finally, we always welcome fundraising; in fact, we love it! If you have any crazy fundraising ideas, don’t ask, just do! The
money that you raise goes into feeding, clothing, educating and giving a future to the children of Uganda that are in our care.
Once again, we really appreciate you and all your support for this cause. This is a partnership and we couldn’t do what we do
without you supporting us.

Welcome to our latest prayer newsletter! Sian Davies has just
gone out to Uganda and arrived safely – she will be there for next
three weeks at the home with all the children and young people.
When she returns it will be time for the next UK Team Meeting
on Saturday 16th February. With all this in mind, please find
below our latest prayer points and some wonderful answers to
prayer.
Thank you to everyone who prayed and financially contributed towards Peter’s Medical Appeal.
Peter is continuing to improve and more than two thirds of the medical costs have been met with
one-off donations. Peter would like to send his thanks and appreciation for the love and prayers to
all of you. Sian has gone out to Uganda and as such has now seen Peter. She has taken out
nutritional supplies to build his strength.
After a delay due to family matters, Sian has flown out to Uganda this week. Please pray for
protection, particularly over Sian’s health and travel whilst she is there. Please continue to pray for
her family back home, for protection and God’s peace and presence.
Sian would like prayer that everything that needs to get done whilst she is out in Uganda will be
accomplished. This includes finalising her work permit which involves leaving her passport with
Internal Affairs. Please pray that it is processed quickly, and her passport is returned before she
needs to leave the country and return to the UK.
Lastly, please pray for the young people, for their ongoing education and growth and
development, and that they will have a good time with Sian this holiday.
God Bless and thank you
Welcome to our October newsletter.
We are so excited to be able to share with you what is going on in both Biojemmss Uganda and UK.

New Team Member!
Recently, Biojemmss appointed a new female worker, Komwezi Stella. Prior to joining the family home, Stella was working as a Sunday school teacher and church secretary for a church in Kampala. She has been a part of the Biojemmss family for 6 months and has been a great blessing. We pray that her time in Biojemmss will be fruitful and rewarding.

Stella

New House!
A new Biojemmss branch has opened in Busega, Kampala, in a rented property; it will be used as a transition house for the young people in Biojemmss preparing to become independent.
Progress in Biojemms
Joseph will be completing the final semester of his Computer Engineering course at Datamine Institute while Otuke will be starting a BBA course majoring in Marketing at Ndejje University.
Two of the young people will be taking a gap year and also running a poultry business which will help them acquire business skills but also save money towards their University fees for next year’s entries.
Brian will be using this time to focus on his music and dancing; he has already been using the last few months to perform in Rukungiri.
Micah, Biojemmss’ assistant manager, has decided to further his education and is starting a part time course in Social Work which he will be doing in conjunction with his role at Biojemmss in Kampala. Earlier this year, he completed a course in Counselling which has been of help to his role.
Paulo, one of our youngest, was struggling academically and as such it was decided to enrol him into a vocational course as this was felt to be where he would thrive. Paulo will be completing his certificate in joinery and carpentry this year at a vocational school in Masaka; he will be finishing as one of the top of his class!

Biojemmss Website
Biojemmss’ website is undergoing a face lift! It is our goal that you, our amazing supporters, will receive more regular and up-to-date information on the happenings in Biojemmss. It will include events that will be taking place across the UK to help raise funds, please start visiting the website more frequently to find out the latest Biojemmss news.

Ebola Crisis in Uganda
Thank you to everyone who stood with us in prayer during the Ebola virus crisis. The government managed to contain it and it did not affect the Biojemmss home.
Please, don’t stop praying as your prayers are definitely making a difference!

Welcome to the Biojemmss Prayer Newsletter!

Here we hope to encourage you with answers to prayer, and let you know of our latest prayer requests as supporters of Biojemmss. We do not intend to send you lots and lots of emails; we will send a prayer newsletter several times a year.
Thanks in advance for reading and praying for the children and staff at the Biojemmss home, and for the UK team.

Prayer Answers – thank you!
Thanks to everyone for praying about the Ebola virus following our urgent prayer request a couple of months ago. The Ugandan government managed to contain it before it spread further. No one was affected from Biojemmss, praise God!

Thank you for praying for a female worker. Stella is settling into the family and has been working for four months. She is an answer to prayer, not only hard working but trustworthy and loves the children.
Prayer Points
The young people are entering in to their final term of this academic year. Please pray that they will have peace and good health as they endeavour to learn everything they have been taught. Also prayer for success as many of them are relying on high grades to be able to do what they had planned for the future

Please pray for our two male workers, Bright and Micah. They have both recently been suffering from ill health. Please pray for healing and strength.
Biojemmss is now in Kampala too! We are renting a second property for the young people who are now at the stage where they are attending University or doing jobs in the capital. Micah has moved into the house too, and is supervising the young people in this new chapter, alongside further training for his Biojemmss job. Please pray for protection and provision whilst they are in Kampala.
Biojemmss is trying to cope with rising prices and further financial pressure as money is needed to support young people in to independence following school completion. Please pray particularly for provision of finances as well as people to support Biojemmss on the ground in Uganda.
The UK Team! The Biojemmss team met in September and is also meeting on December 8th. Please pray that we would have wisdom as decisions are made about the future of Biojemmss. Please also pray that God would put Biojemmss in to the hearts of more people who would be willing to serve. We continue to look for individuals who would be able to support us in the following areas: marketing, fundraising, website design/updates – if that’s you and you’d like to help or you know someone else who’d be interested, please get in touch!
Please pray for Sian Davies (CEO) as she continues to work hard in a full-time demanding job in the UK alongside Biojemmss. It has reached a point where this is no longer sustainable. Please pray for wisdom as Sian makes decisions about her employment and how to continue to serve God.

God Bless and thank you
Here we hope to encourage you with answers to prayer, and let you know of our latest prayer requests as supporters of Biojemmss. We do not intend to send you lots and lots of emails; we will send a prayer newsletter every couple of months or so.

Thanks in advance for reading and praying for the children and staff at the Biojemmss home, and for the UK team.

Prayer Answers

Thank you so much to everyone who committed to pray for our NGO registration papers. Biojemmss’ NGO certificate has been renewed for a three year period!

Thank you to those who prayed for the two newest members of the family: Trust and Frances. Both are doing exceptionally well in school, and Trust already being moved up a year because of his achievements and capability.

Thank you also to those who prayed during the Christmas period while Sian was out in Uganda.

Prayer Points

Biojemmss has recently taken on a new female worker. Getting reliable, trustworthy workers has been difficult and Biojemmss has seen a number of female workers come and go in the past year. The desire is to employ one permanent female worker to attend to the young girls in the home, and look after the younger children who are day schooling. It is critical that the seed they are sowing is good, and one of love and care. Please pray that this appointment goes well and this ongoing concern is resolved.

The young people have just sat their mid-year exams before returning home for the post-Easter period. Please pray for their wellbeing as this has been a stressful time for them. Please also pray that they have opportunity for bible study and fellowship together in their busy schedule. Although many of the older ones are in boarding school, they commit to meet together during the week to share and support each other in faith as a family.

Biojemmss continues to look at the future and expanding the ministry. For some time Biojemmss has been interested in purchasing a piece of land to build ministry buildings, as well as to start growing crops and keeping livestock keeping as part of a sustainable initiative. Please pray for wisdom and finances in this longer-term goal

Biojemmss continues to try and build trust and partnerships within the local community. Please pray for favour in the community and with people in positions of authority in Rukungiri, and Kampala.

God Bless and thank you
From all at Biojemmss

Hello and welcome to the first Biojemmss newsletter of 2012!

Let us be excited about what this New Year has in store for Biojemmss!

First though, let me provide a little report on the happenings at the end of last year.

Christmas Period

Christmas Presents Donated to Biojemmss

Sian took her annual leave all in one go this Christmas and New Year to be out with the family for the festive season. Sian spent a great deal of time preparing for her visit, including planning and taking out games and activities which produced some hilarious photos! The Biojemmss family also did a bible series on The Father’s Embrace, care of Ellel Ministries, and had one-on-one prayer time. Christmas Day was an event! With a goat and 8 chickens to prepare, everyone chipped in to get things ready….the first one up at 4am!! Sian even managed to take pasta, chocolate, spices and a whole plethora of treats for everyone to enjoy. The home was decorated for the Christmas season, with a small Christmas tree and lights and hanging decorations. The young people even had a visit from Father Christmas this year with stockings on their beds! This was a really special time of just being together as a family.

Holiday Visitors

Biojemmss was privileged to welcome a number of visitors this Christmas including David and Bobbie Tinnion from Elim International Missions:

Bobbie, Bright, Sian & David

Bobbie, Bright, Sian & David

“God has called us to who are called to EQUIP, ENCOURAGE & ENABLE church leaders throughout the nations and this we endeavoured to do whilst visiting Sian at BIOJEMMSS. We enjoyed being with the young people at BIOJEMMSS but our main focus was to bring strength, encouragement and help to Sian as a leader of the Biojemmss ministry. It was thrilling to see what Sian had achieved and we hope that we can continue to resource BIOJEMMSS by introducing Sian to those who may be able to help her.”
David and Bobbie

Biojemmss was also visited by Jimmie King, a good friend of Biojemmss and a producer on Uganda’s national TV network.
This was a fantastic opportunity for fellowship, and was really encouraging both to Sian and to the young people.

Boxing Day

Sadam on the Boating Trip

To top off an incredible Christmas day, Biojemmss had a family outing on Boxing Day. Bright managed to hire a matatu taxi and the family travelled one hour to a resort island called Mutuumo Island. Crossing over by boat, they spent the day playing football, volleyball and other sports. This was possible because of the donations some of you provided for the festive season, so a massive thank you especially to you! The day was also spent with a lot of plashing as many of the young people learnt to swim (not part of the Ugandan culture to learn). It’s fair to say they were a lot more confident getting into the boat on the way back!

Donations

Additional Suitcases!

Thanks to Sam Pritchard who works for British Airways, it was possible for Sian to carry out 10 extra suitcases filled with donations to Rukungiri. This was just incredible. These donations came in from far and wide. Included were new clothes, games, Christian literature, children’s books, footwear, a mini Christmas tree and lights etc! These donations, particularly the clothes, were used as Christmas gifts for the youth, and Christmas afternoon was a typical affair of endless family photos!

Member Highlights

Brenda, the five year old girl taken on by Biojemmss last summer, is doing really well and has grown so much! She successfully completed her first year at school and grown out of all her new clothes. Her English is also improving and she can now greet beautifully.

Biojemmss has two new members of the family;

New family member Trust with Micah

Trust, aged 5. Trust abandoned and living on the streets in a District near to Rukungiri. Trust came to Rukungiri when he was adopted by an elderly lady. She was already looking after her relatives’ children, many of whom had passed away from HIV, in poverty. Trust was unlikely to ever get an education and was severely malnourished. As he was not related to the family, the woman was looking for opportunities of where Trust could go. The Community Church in Rukungiri approached Biojemmss and we accepted to adopt Trust. Micah, who is particularly gifted with young children, has taken Trust under his wing and Trust is growing in confidence. He has settled in so well and he brings great character and laughter to the family.

Brenda and Frances

Frances, aged 10. Frances is the younger brother of one of our members, Otuke. Otuke shared an incredible testimony just a few months ago which Sian had the privilege of sharing at the Elim conference. Last year he was reunited with his relatives after a decade of being apart. Otuke had lived on the streets before being picked up by a children’s home in Kampala. On being re-united with his sister, Otuke discovered that his mum had passed away leaving his younger brother orphaned and without a secure place to live. Following discussions with Otuke, it was felt by Biojemmss to be appropriate to take Frances on.

Biojemmss is also eagerly awaiting the A-level results of 4 of its members in February. It is an incredible testimony that after all the hardship and difficulty over the years, another 4 have really made it! The members are still discussing what they are going to do during their vacation year, and in the years following. Biojemmss also welcomed Joseph home for Christmas who is continuing to do well in Kampala on his Engineering Diploma.

All the other members returned to school on the 30th January, ready for a new year and a new set of exams! Please pray for protection, good health and impeccable concentration!

Retail Shop

This business venture is plodding along but not yet making a substantial profit. As such Biojemmss is seeking to re-market the shop to boost sales. We are also looking into expanding into other enterprises over the coming months, so it is a very exciting time for us and we would appreciate your prayers, and any advice, in this area.

Paperwork and all the ‘boring but necessary’ stuff…

Biojemmss submitted its NGO renewal papers at Christmas time. Please pray for favour as they get processed. Due to changes in government legislation Biojemmss is also facing the task of amending parts of its constitution, which is potentially a very time-consuming task. Sian is also expecting an outcome for her work visa over these coming months, so again please pray for favour in that situation.

Biojemmss UK

The Biojemmss UK team is steadily expanding. We are holding a Biojemmss day in March where we will review the progress of the team this side, and look to expand and develop Biojemmss’ strengths in the UK. We are always looking for suitable team members, so if you feel that this is something that you would like to be a part if, then please see the contact details at the end of the newsletter. As I’m sure you can imagine, we need money in order to keep the Biojemmss family going. If you have any fundraising ideas, we would love for you to get involved in that way too. There are so many innovative ways to raise funds, so get your thinking caps on! Again, there will be contact details at the end of this newsletter. Thank you to all of you who have fundraised for us so far; your money has helped us feed, clothe and educate some incredible young people. They are the future, and we are so excited to watch them grow through your generosity. Thank you.
Spread the word, talk about us, help us grow and pray for us.

A Message From Bright, Micah, Sian and all the staff…

Biojemmss management would just like to thank everyone who supports Biojemmss for their on-going care, contact, love and prayers. It is incredibly encouraging for all of us to know that, as Mukasa likes to say, there is a ‘cloud of people behind us’. May God bless you all.

How fast time flies! It seems like only yesterday we were putting together our Christmas newsletter and now here we are at the end of the summer holidays! Biojemmss continues to go from strength to strength, and there have been many changes and successful developments over the course of this year.

Biojemmss Life

The Rukungiri-based Family home is still bubbling with life. The young people are currently preparing for the final exams of this academic year. Bright and Micah, despite both suffering ill health this semester, are working hard and the home is blossoming under their care and leadership. During the holidays, the young people have been active with dancing and drama, and enjoyed daily Bible devotions and worship within the home. The young people continue to attend the churches of their choice in the community, and many of them have been able to participate in church conferences and camps this year.

Brenda (aged 5) on school visiting day

Readers may remember that last summer Biojemmss adopted 5 year old Brenda. Brenda has settled to Biojemmss life well and is now very much healthy and grown! Biojemmss is expecting to expand again this Christmas with the arrival of a 5 year old boy, and have interviewed and taken on a new female staff member in response to the growing need (more info to follow).

As for the UK, Sian Davies, Biojemmss Director, has been touring the UK giving a series of talks at various churches and conferences, including at Elim festival and Elim conference. It is through these events that more people are coming to hear of the amazing work of Biojemmss, providing opportunity for people to be inspired, get involved, and to be a part of what God is doing in Uganda. Biojemmss is dependent on this growing support for future growth and development. Sian continues to work full-time as a Social Worker to financially support herself as she serves in Biojemmss. The level of care and dedication within the Biojemmss leadership is second to none, and this is apparent through Sian’s enthusiasm, hard-work and compassion.

Biojemmss Shop and Poultry Business

I spoke about the plans for a Biojemmss Retail Shop in my last bulletin. The purpose of the shop would be not only to teach the youth how to run a business, but also to help fund the project. At Christmas the shop was just an idea. It is now very much a fully functioning reality. We would like to say thank to all who donated towards this, your generosity has made a significant impact.
It is encouraging to see the Biojemmss objectives being achieved! It stirs up a steely determination within Biojemmss to power forward and be an example to other organisations.
Last month the shop did particularly well and so we are looking to re-invest in more stock. Due to the success of this business venture we have taken on a full-time worker to manage it. We are looking to expand this venture by developing it into a wholesale shop once funds are secured. The youth are enjoying being involved with the management of the shop, and have taken real ownership of it.

We are also looking to start up a poultry business in Uganda’s capital, Kampala. This is to be run by four of our young people as a gap year project. They will save and use the profit to contribute towards their University fees. Along with the retail shop, this will be a great opportunity for them to learn independence and business skills. The poultry business will also give them a sense of pride and achievement as they will be able to contribute significantly to their own higher education. These kinds of opportunities will help develop character and independence, and therefore support the youth to successfully transition into adulthood.

Newly Opened Biojemmss Shop

Restaurant Business

Biojemmss intends to support every young person to successfully transition into adulthood and independent living. This comes under our objective “to create opportunities and facilitate activities that promote the children’s physical, emotional, intellectual and social growth”. Isaac was the first young person to be in a position to leave the Biojemmss Home. Plans had been ongoing for over a year to ensure this was a managed and fully supported move. Isaac decided on and wrote a proposal for a Restaurant business. With Biojemmss’ financial support and ongoing guidance, he has been able to successfully establish a restaurant in his home town in Lira. Bright recently went to see him and reports that he is happy and doing really well. Isaac communicated that he has also decided to work with disadvantaged children in Lira, the details of which he will be sharing with everyone when he returns home to Rukungiri for Christmas.

Isaac's shop in Lira

The Biojemmss Land Project

As mentioned in the previous newsletter we are looking to buy land in order to build a new, larger home and have land for crops etc. This is an on-going project, and one for which we would appreciate prayers. We are continuing to raise the money to buy the land. If you want to give a financial donation towards the land, please fill out the normal donation form and indicate on it that it is for the Biojemmss land project.

The land is going to take Biojemmss forward in a new and exciting way. At the moment we are reliant on renting to provide accommodation to the youth and staff on site. Although we are incredibly grateful for this wonderful home, we aim to have our own home on our own land. This will have several advantages. The project will still be based in Rukungiri as we believe that we can make a significant difference to the local community. The new site will be a home for the youth and staff, also be used as ministry buildings to serve and reach out to the local community. The land will also be used for agricultural purposes, which will allow us to be more self-sufficient, and will provide produce to sell in the Biojemmss shops. This will bring our overheads down and ensure the youth have a healthy and balanced diet.

Our plans for the future will allow us to serve and reach so many disadvantaged and lost people in Rukungiri, and in Uganda as a whole. We would love you and your local church to join in and get involved with us! If you can commit to just one fundraising event, a coffee morning, a sponsored marathon, it will make such a huge difference. It will help us to continue supporting the young people, and also enable us to reach others. You may only be able to do a little, but your little will do so much.

The Coming Months

This Christmas, if all goes to plan, will see the arrival of a new child in Biojemmss. This is an interesting time for us as we grow and expand. We have also taken on new members of staff in Uganda, and the UK based team is growing. The faster we grow in Uganda, the bigger and more expansive the UK team needs to become. There are many areas of service within the team, including book keeping, media etc. If you have a skill that you would like to offer Biojemmss, please find details at the end of this newsletter. If you feel that you would like to get involved, this is a commitment to be taken seriously!

Want to Help?

Without monthly donations it is very hard for us to set a budget to work to. We are very blessed in that the youth have never gone without, but there is still a desperate need for more people to commit to supporting us by way of monthly donations. If this is something that you are able to do there are forms that you can fill out on the website and send.

If you cannot commit to donating monthly, there are so many ways that you can serve Biojemmss. If you have a skill you can use to support us, or if you can connect us with a company or another organisation, please contact us at info@biojemmss.co.uk. We are currently looking for ways to send items out to Uganda. Due to new shipping laws, the price to get items out to the children has doubled, making it harder than ever to bless them with the donations of clothes and electrical items that we receive from you all. If this is an area that you can help us with, please do contact us and let us know, Thank you.

Sian Davies, Biojemmss’ Director, will be spending time at the project this coming Christmas. As it will be the festive season, we would love to be able to bless the youth with gifts. If you would like to donate financially towards these gifts, or a Christmas meal, please contact info@biojemmss.co.uk.

Thank you for your continued support and for taking an interest in the Biojemmss youth. I hope that at some point you will get a chance to meet the youth for yourselves and experience all the love that they have to offer.

God Bless,

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year!

We trust you all had a lovely Christmas, and pray that God blesses you in the coming year.
This Christmas Sian Davies, Director of The Biojemmss Organisation, headed out to Rukungiri for two weeks. Armed with decorations, presents and a large Christmas cake, Sian arrived on the overnight bus, surprising the children with her arrival at 4am!

This bulletin will detail the events of her visit……

Christmas in Rukungiri
This Christmas the youth enjoyed decorating the house, wrapping presents and eating a goat on Christmas Day along with their local delicacy: grasshoppers! This was also a time for fellowship, Christmas games and spending time resting after their final exams. The Biojemmss youth also had the opportunity to perform at their local church. They put on one of their notorious dances and were invited to further perform at the Boxing Day celebrations. This gave them a chance to share not only their talent, but also to be part of evangelistic events in the community.

After Christmas, some of the young people travelled to see relatives for two weeks. Though most of the young people have been estranged from their family since early childhood, Biojemmss sees it as important to support young people re-establish and maintain ongoing contact with family, often financially supporting extended family members. This holiday, Biojemmss was able to support three young people to locate their families, all of whom had been separated from their relatives for more than a decade. Prior to living in the children’s home Biojemmss rescued them from in 2007, they had been living on the street, one of them abandoned as a toddler. Re-connecting with their families has been a positive experience for all of them, and crucial for each of them to get answers and try to rebuild severed relationships. Biojemmss ensures that vital measures are taken to protect them from harm throughout family contact.

It’s fair to say, Biojemmss experienced a fun and action packed holiday (including the surprise Sian-shaped Father Christmas!). These events did not include blizzards, snowstorms, minus 10 temperatures, or being stranded somewhere in the snow. No. That was just us here in the UK. Biojemmss had sun, lots, and lots of sun.

NGO Status
You may remember from the last newsletter we were applying for Ugandan NGO status….
In December the battle was finally won and Biojemmss was awarded NGO status! All that hard work and the many, many prayers were more than worth it. Thank you to all who supported us through this. Sian and Micah (the Assistant Manager) picked up the certificate from Internal Affairs this Christmas. This means so much to all of us on team, and I’m sure to you too.

Biojemmss Life

Brenda (aged 5) with her Biojemmss brother Brian (aged 18)

Brenda, the young girl who joined Biojemmss back in the summer, is settling in very well. We now have a female worker on site and are looking to take on a second female care worker as Biojemmss expects to take in more children over the next few months. The worker is a Christian and has already formed close bonds with the girls, also conducting bible studies and counselling sessions with them.

Plans are underway for next years school leavers. Some will be setting up small businesses so that they can work alongside Biojemmss to save towards University fees. The ambition that the youth have to succeed and learn is almost infectious. It leaves you feeling blown away and inspired.

One of the young people is currently in the process of establishing a small business. If you would like to take a look at his business proposal or financially support him, please email info@biojemmss.com

Biojemmss’s most recent fundraising event was to establish a business in Rukungiri that would financially feed the home. Thank you so much to everyone who financially supported and to those who supported us in prayer. Although we are still short of our target total, we are already looking for a location for the business and are expecting to have it established soon. Please see the copy of our business plan. This business will not only aid Biojemmss’s fundraising efforts, it will also provide opportunity for the young people to learn business and accounting skills. This will be an invaluable experience for them.

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, Biojemmss is looking to buy a 20-acre plot of land on which to build a family home and grow crops etc. Purchasing this land is something Biojemmss is passionate about. It will provide a base- a place that can be called ‘home’, providing room to grow as God calls. It also means we will be able to minister and reach out to the local community and share the love of God with them from a place of security and stability.
The cost of this land is £20,000. We are currently a fairly small project. (I say currently… God has plans!) This is not pocket change, and we would love it very much if you could support us through fundraising and prayer, both of which we know you’re amazing at! Don’t go all shy on us; we know you have many talents. Please use them. If you would like more information: info@biojemmss.com

Craft Empire
I would like to say a huge thank you to those who have purchased crafts. There are still lots more to buy. The youth really enjoy making these crafts and it excites them to know that people around the world are buying them. And, well, they are pretty beautiful handmade crafts! Extraordinary, you might say. Please keep buying them.

Kampala: Sustainable-Livelihood Programme

Aisha's eldest daughter and grand-daughter

Following on from the last newsletter, Aisha’s sustainable-livelihood programme is doing really well (please see website for more details). Business is starting to pick up and it really is making a big difference to this family and their lives. This is a testimony of God’s provision and faithfulness.

Sian’s on a mission (as always!)
Sian is currently ‘touring’ around a number of churches spreading the news of what God is doing in Biojemmss. If you would like her to visit your church, (and you should, she’s pretty good) she will happily come and ignite a big old Biojemmss fire in your congregation! Just contact: info@biojemmss.com

God Bless, Charmian
