Danielle & Ashley | New York Botanical Garden Engagement Photos | Preview

I’ve had the opportunity to shoot many engagement sessions, but only rarely do I get asked to take photos of the actual proposal. What a thrill! Ashley flew up from South Carolina in the morning and arranged for his girlfriend Danielle to meet him at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. She said yes, of course!

Not only were we blessed with perfect weather and a beautiful grove of cherry trees in full bloom — but a painter nearby happened to catch the proposal on his canvas! How cool is that? Here’s a few preview shots from the special moment. More to come soon!

Cecily & Ali | Astoria Park Engagement Photography | Preview

Cecily and Ali are getting married this Saturday, and wanted to do an engagement session where they first met a few years ago in Astoria Park. Despite the cold weather, and the 30mph wind gusts, they were so fun to work with and took some beautiful photographs together. After spending some time in Astoria, we went to the pier at Long Island City and took some twilight shots with the New York City skyline. Enjoy the photos, more to come soon!

Jessica and Frank are an amazing couple from Germany who met in New York City on an internship a few years ago. They came back here for a weeklong vacation and to re-live some memories, and Frank surprised Jessica with an engagement ring on Saturday evening! One of the biggest advantages of living in New York is having so many friends around! Between the two of us, Andrea and I know more people in this city than anyplace else on Earth.

This is Andrew, a good friend whom I’ve known for many years. We met at Interlochen where we were summer camp counselors. He was in my wedding this past summer, and is finishing up a PhD at NYU. I took a trip down to Greenwich Village where we grabbed lunch and coffee and exchanged some good laughs over what we’ve been up to over the past few months.

I used to do a photo-a-day blog on Livejournal, and I’m really thinking about starting that up again. There are no shortage of things to photograph here in New York!

I ♥ My Hood

My wife Andrea and I moved to New York City a few weeks ago, and we feel totally blessed by the neighborhood that we now call home. We live in the upper-most area of Manhattan, Inwood, which is home to many parks, The Cloisters, and lots of little mom-and-pop stores and restaurants that we’ve already begun to explore. The weather here has been phenomenal (for winter, anyway), so Andrea and I have tried our best to take advantage with some daytime walks. Of course, I usually bring my camera along.
