No other day than today, could have been chosen by Pitchfork to premiere Voltaic's Declare Independence. Why? Because it is Iceland's 65th Indepence Day yesterday! The struggle continues and we got to raise our flags. Voltaic is getting closer by the minute! Enjoy!

Bjork's 2008 Paris Concert TO Be Screened...

Björk’s Voltaic: The Volta Tour will be screened nationwide in the USA this June and July. The more than 15 screenings coincide with the release of the very special DVD/CD/VINYL recording Voltaic, which is being released in the U.S. by Nonesuch Records on June 23, OLI in the UK and Universal elsewhere.

Available in five different physical configurations, Voltaic is a lovingly packaged celebration of the past two years of activities surrounding Björk’s Volta—her critically praised sixth studio album, which came out in 2007.

The Housing Works project concert in NY earlier this month looked like a fascinating affair. We asked Brandon Stosuy to tell a little bit about the Housing Project and also how the benefit concert came about.

" When I contacted Dave Longstreth a little more than a year ago about contributing to Enjoyed, a compilation where we (Stereogum) asked various musicians to cover individual songs from Post, he talked to me about his admiration for Björk, focusing on what he saw as her deconstructive compositional sense. (His band, the Dirty Projectors, ended up covering "Hyperballad.") A few weeks later, I was talking with Björk about new music and she mentioned she liked Dirty Projectors. She played their album Rise Above for a friend, pointing out the vocal arrangements. "

Voltaic Release Date June 23rd World Wide

Björk announces a very special DVD/CD/VINYL recording, Voltaic on June 23, 2009, world wide! And we also announce the Voltaic Special now!

Available in five different physical configurations, Voltaic is a lovingly packaged celebration of the past two years of Björk’s Volta activities—her critically praised sixth studio album, which came out in 2007, and the subsequent two-year world tour.

Nonesuch Records will release it in the US. One Little Indian in the UK and Universal for the rest of the world

Voltaic DVD 1 contains filmed highlights from the Volta tour, recorded in Paris and Reykjavik, with performances of songs from Volta as well as tracks from previous albums including Hunter, Joga, Army of Me, and Hyperballad.

Björk’s band on the Volta tour included Mark Bell (LFO) on computers and keyboards and Damian Taylor on keyboards and programming. Drums and percussion were played by Chris Corsano (Sonic Youth, etc.); Jónas Sen played piano, harpsichord, and church organ; and Björk’s all female Icelandic 10-piece brass section rounded out the group. A dynamic, grand live experience, the Volta tour has been acclaimed around the world. As the Guardian (UK) said in its five-star review, “Björk delivers a performance as visually spectacular as it is musically innovative. Fifteen years into her solo career Björk remains the least compromising and most fantastical pop superstar talent.”

Voltaic DVD 2 features all of the Volta music videos, including the “Declare Independence” clip directed by celebrated Oscar winning French director Michel Gondry; the “Wanderlust” video directed by encyclopedia pictura; and the “Earth Intruders” video directed by renowned French animator Michel Ocelot.

Voltaic CD 1 is a selection of songs from the Volta tour recorded live at the legendary Olympic Studios in London, just before Björk’s headlining show at the Glastonbury Festival in 2007. It was recorded in one afternoon, and the whole set was played live and captured in one take before being produced and mixed by Björk.

Voltaic CD 2 features key remixes from Volta, with versions of “Earth Intruders,” “Declare Independence,” “Innocence,” “Wanderlust,” and “Dull Flame of Desire,” by the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Matthew Herbert, Graeme Sinden, Ghostigital, and Modeselektor.

Voltaic Release For June Unless...

The already delayed Voltaic will be the next release from Björk as reported here. it has hit some production snags, but those seem to be resolved. We got though a note from One Little Indian explaining some confusion regarding the release. We publish it in full for those in confusion. For the rest of us, we shall just wait for the proper released date.

"There has been a lot of talk about the release of Voltaic recently, and as you all know, this release has had to be pushed back due to manufacturing problems. We are receiving our stock at OLI of the original 3 formats within the next 10 days, and will be honouring all orders as soon as they arrive.
We have been trying to release all formats simultaneously internationally in June – so that people could choose which format that they wanted to purchase.
There have been many problems getting this release right – we have had lots of problems on production test runs – and had to reschedule everything. Even when we thought we had everything correct – we had to destroy an initial run of 20,000 and go back and re design the menus on one of the dvd’s- and change the track listing.
Somehow in all the confusion - Universal Europe have accidently shipped 10,000 of the deluxe digi pack cd to shops in Europe this week. They have not shipped any other formats because they are not ready yet
The record has not been released anywhere else in the world.
If you wish, we can immediately refund your order so you can buy from another shop – or if you can wait – your order will be dispatched as soon as they arrive.
We can only apologise for the mix up, and will endevour to get you your order as soon as humanly possible.

A Small Benefit Concert in NY

It does not need to be big but it matters, and we might not be in NY, but hey we bring attention to this small concerts as it has some fabulous artists and good cause:

"In a never before seen or heard collaboration with The Dirty Projectors, Björk will perform a suite of new music composed for her by David Longstreth of The Dirty Projectors. The suite, written for five voices, will pair Björk with the Projectors (Dave Longstreth, Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian, and Haley Dekle).

In 2008, the Dirty Projectors covered Björk’s “Hyperballad” for a Stereogum tribute CD, a track-by-track covers project that also includes Liars, No Age, High Places, and members of Grizzly Bear, among others. Housing Works Board Member and Stereogum Senior Writer Brandon Stosuy, who knew of Björk and David Longstreth’s admiration for each other’s work, approached the artists about performing together at Housing Works. It is their first collaboration.

With two opening acts selected by Bjork and The Dirty Projectors: Ólöf Arnalds and Kurt Weisman

This concert is a benefit concert for the Housing Works:
