This is a very good song

LYRICS

On a warm summers evening, on a train bound for nowhere
I met up with a gambler, we were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns at staring out the window at the darkness
The boredom overtook us and he began to speak
He said, son I've made a life out of reading people's faces
And knowing what the cards were, by the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey, I'll give you some advice
So I handed him my bottle, and he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression
Said, if you're gonna play the game, boy, you gotta learn to play it right
Chorus:
You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away and know when to run
You never count your money, when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin', when the dealin's done
Every gambler knows that the secret to survive is
Knowing what to throw away and knowing what to keep
'Cos every hand's a winner and every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for is dyin' in your sleep
And when he finished speakin', he turned back for the window
Crushed out the cigarette, faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness, the gambler he broke even
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep
chorus repeats 3x

I heard this song when Shaun Smith from Britains Got Talent sang this during his audition. When he sang it, I just fell in love with it and was somewhat familiar with this song because I love listening to old, classic songs.

Anyway, there have been many who revived this song. One version was by Lenny Kravitz. Kravitz's version was great but I prefer the original. Also, this song has been covered by many artists including the late Michael Jackson. Check out Wikipedia to know the other artists.

Bill Wither's version of Ain't No Sunshine has a lot more soul into it. It just touches your heart when your listen to it. Nothing beats the original, that's what I always say.

Anyway, here's a video of Ain't No Sunshine sung by Bill Withers.
It marks the end of a chapter in our school life, be it in elementary, secondary or college. You can see a lot of graduates dressed in their togas, eagerly anticipating the end of commencement exercises. This activity officially marks the end of their school life and the start of another or their new journey in the real world.

Newly college grads are now face with the reality of finding a job. No more free allowances from our parents, grandparents and godparents. This signifies that we are now tasked to stand up on our own two feet.

To the graduates of 2010, I welcome you to the real world. Prepare your resumes and CV's; Draft your interview speeches; And prepare your handkerchiefs as you venture and enduringly stand in line with other applicants and eagerly wanting to impress the employer as much as the next guy.

Learning does not end within the four corners of the classroom. As you start your career outside the school, you'll continue to learn, find friends and enemies, deal with people and yourself. So, good luck graduates and press on with your ambitions.

Oftentimes, I can manage more than 1 update when I'm hit with an inspiration. But that's a rare occasion.

The problem with writing is how you actually start the article. Now for a non-writer like me, that's like asking a scientist to prove God.

So, just to update this blog, I'll try to uncover the inner depths of my brain and try to come up with worthy articles(hopefully). According to the workshop I've been to, "if you want to write, then all you have to do is write". Thus here I am trying to accomplish just that.

For starters, I just want to thank DavaoBloggers for the opportunity they've given to someone like me. Also, I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Rene Lizada. The knowledge he imparted and shared with us will highly be venerated.

And so, from now on, I will try to uncover my skills in writing (if ever there was one). Wish me luck guys.

How about you? Do you have any difficulty when it comes to writing? Hope you can share some tips for me. We went to the mall for the sole purpose of just going out of the house once in a while. It's boring staying inside the house for 2 days, sleeping and staring at the computer. Getting a whiff of fresh air to revitalize the body is good (though it's not that fresh anymore).

Anway, we passed by the section of the mall where they sell Christmas ornaments, Christmas trees, and other Christmas stuff.

I for one doesn't like putting Christmas stuff in the house. I don't really know, I just don't feel and like to. However, the missus likes these kinds of stuff. And I thought, why not go for a change for once (Take note on the emphasis on once.. LOL).

I decided to buy several Christmas lights for the house. Looking around, I found some Christmas tube lights which are very good and appropriate for putting outside since these kinds of light doesn't easily get wet. As the lights were tested, other customers found out that it was beautiful. In fact, people doesn't have enough idea on what actually were the use of those tubes on the floor until we bought some. We settled for various color tube lights.

These Christmas tube lights consists of tiny light bulbs encase in a plastic tubing. With these construction, it can easily bend around and appropriate for outside use.

We also bought some Santa-on-sleigh, perfect for putting in doors. We also bought some regular Christmas lights serving as extension for the Santa-on-sleigh lights.

At home, we mount the tube lights we bought around the tree outside the house and positioned Santa above the door. We had trouble layouting the regular Christmas lights on the windows. After a while, to hell with it, just hang them around the windows, there's no point in actually layout it so hard.

We also attached the old Christmas lights we had last year. We eventually finished putting the Christmas lights outside and it's time to turn them on. The arrangement looked pretty good and the Christmas tube lights were brighter than what I expected.

Now, we wait for Noche Buena. Can't wait for the food which will be prepared this Christmas. Happy Holidays everyone.

Working with Wordpress

I started with my new client for a few weeks now, and mostly I've been dealing with Wordpress as a CMS. Wordpress in itself is quite powerful yet very simple to use. Its flexibility is known to every web developers and website owners.

With its flexibility, its quite easy to make it behave as a CMS, and most people are doing this. And this is where I encountered my issues. My client uses Wordpress as a CMS for his clients.

I've been using Wordpress in some of my blogs and I am very happy working with it. But, frankly, why use a blogging web app as a CMS. It's like walking with your hands. Possible but not appropriate.

There are simple CMS web apps out there that does the job perfectly. I'm not saying that Wordpress should also try to be a CMS. Its flexibility makes that very possible.

All I'm saying is blogging is blogging, CMS is CMS.

Well, I guess to each his own.

Pantalan Outing

Last Sunday, we (my wife, my kid, my sister and my mother) went to Panabo specifically in Pantalan. We arrived there about 1 or 2 hours past noon and it was blazing hot. First, our destination was something called "White Sand", and for some reason I couldn't find white sand over there. (teehee)

Anyway, there was no place for us, the water was very far and it was very rocky. It was very inconvenient if ever we'd go for a swim. So we decided that we'd go to Pantalan.

It was a very nice place. The "beach" was literally under your feet. Stores were also served as "cottages" equipped with very loud megavision. It was a very nice party though you can barely hear yourself speaking.

When we arrived in Pantalan, my sisters-in-law were already there and my parents-in-law came a few seconds later bringing the food. We also brought some food; bihon, fruit salad, pistachio nuts, and gambas.

At around 3 or 4, when it was hot already, my wife and my sister when for a swim carrying along my kid. Minutes later, my mother and my mother-in-law followed. Bored just looking at them, I changed my shorts and when also in the water. It was knee deep at the shore and chest deep at a few hundred meters; in short it was just a shallow "beach".

Though it was shallow, there were a lot of big, sharp rocks. I got myself a few cuts.

After swimming, wading and floating in the water for about 30 to 1 hour, we returned to our table to rest and eat. After which heavy rain fell down minutes later.

While waiting for the rain to stop, they sang a few songs in the megavision, while my sister and I went for some pictorials.

When the rain stopped, we bid farewell as we rode a tricyle to the bus terminal. Finally, we arrived in Buhangin just in time for WoE. (wheheheeh, but that's another story)

PS: Pictures to follow

Assembler Days in College

Assembler. A machine level programming language. It is much difficult to learn than high level language because you are talking machine language here, thus you will be dealing with registers, bits, bytes, binary and hexadecimal values.

We had this subject way back in college. I was very excited with this subject and my heart was beating like crazy. So many questions ran into my mind, "Can I handle this subject?", "Will I be able to understand and absorb information about machine language?". It's quite different since it's not like the common English words we use during programming. This is machine language we are talking about. All those 1's and 0's.

But anyway, as I was recalling my college years. I thought that I would like to refresh my knowledge about assemblers. So I downloaded a TASM installer. Sad to say I left my notes during college at home in Koronadal. With that, I just downloaded some manuals and tutorials off the net.

Take note that I'm not going in-depth, just a mere refreshal. Now I'm ready to refresh my assembler skills. Wish me luck..^_^

Bored and Confused

Phew! It's been weeks since I last posted here... I guess I was busy playing Ragna. ^_^ Got me self some priest, soul linker, sniper and creator.

I was getting bored playing since I can't kill most of the MVP's and I can't find any party.

Oh well, here I am wondering what I'm suppose to do. I've put cooking aside since I have many expenses and payments to prioritize. I was also thinking of photography as a hobby, that will surely keep me busy, interested and create a lot of ideas to keep me out of boredom. But the only problem is I don't have a camera. So, currently I'm saving for a digital camera. I'm researching Canon cameras but I'm still open for other brands.

That leaves me with nothing.. Hmmm, I do scribbles and sketches occasionally. And I thought I'm going to keep this up.. I'm not really good in drawing but I'll do my best and hope I can improve it.

Here's a (somewhat) cartoony-caricature of me.. @_@ (done with The GIMP)

It's not finished yet though. Back then it was a pay-to-play version, but it gets really expensive once you take it seriously. And I'm not going to spend thousands of my money just to play this game.

I had once got a copy of the offline version of Ragnarok. It was nice, I can warp here and there, I can have the best items I could never get with the online version. The only problem is I am the only one playing in the Ragna World. There's no one I can talk to. No persons to trade items with. No party while hunting bosses in Ragnarok. It was just lonely.

Then I heard that there are private servers for this game. They have increased experiences gained when fighting enemies. There are other people you can socialize with. I can also have the best items since most of the enemies drop a lot of items. Some for zeny and others for equips. The private server I'm talking about is DarkRO. They even have classes that were taken from Star Wars. @_@

Unfortunately my PC broke down and my hard drive was broken. It was years from then that I stopped playing RO.

But now, I'm back in the game. My brother had downloaded another private server of the game. This time it's MyRO. Currently I have a priest, a soul linker, a TK kid, a sniper, and an alchemist.

My favorite class in RO and in any game, online, offline or RPG is an archer and with MyRO, already transcended my hunter to be a sniper, a blitzer or falconer. It was fun.

But it couldn't get much exciting with the alchemist. Having a homunculus was great. My homun was much stronger than I am. Fast attack rate, Insanely high defence, and Insanely large health. A tanker homun. All I had to to is to sit down and watch my homun kill all the enemies. @_@

Currently, I'm trying to get it to level 99 so I can transcend to Creator. heheeh Wish me luck.

My Portfolio Updates

At last, after many months of thinking and making the design for my portfolio, it is nearly finished finished. I'm not really good with designing. Hope that will change soon, it's just so difficult to come up with a design.

There's so many things that enters my mind and yet it just doesn't fit at all. Everything just doesn't fall into place. I envy those people who can easily create a design for a website or a blog. Where do they get these kinds of ideas. amf!

I'm trying to get into the trend these days. How do they start in designing? How do they know that this effect goes well with that effect and in the total layout? So many questions, so little time.

Anyway, I hope I can finish my portfolio website soon. It's been pending for almost half a year now.. hehehe

And also, I hope that I get good tasks at the office. Submitting articles is just not appropriate for an IT graduate who wants to improve his skills in web design and web development.

An Expedition in South America

Hello guyz, are your stomaches okay now? If not, brace yourself again. This time it's not your stomach but your skins. Here's another quote from Omar's mail to me.

After anthropologist Susan McKinley came back home from an expedition in South America, she noticed a very strange rash on her left breast. Nobody knew what it was and she quickly dismissed it believing that the sores would leave in time.

Upon her return she decided to see a doctor after she started developing intense pains. The doctor, not knowing the exact severity of the case, gave her antibiotics and special creams. As time elapsed the pain did not subside and her left breast became more inflamed and started to bleed. She decided to bandage her sores however as Susan's pain grew more intense she decided to seek help from a more certified doctor.

Dr. Lynch could not diagnose the infection and told Susan to seek the aid of one of his colleagues who specialized in dermatology whom was sadly on vacation. She waited for two weeks and finally was able to reach the dermatologist. Sadly, a life changing event was about to unfold during her appointment.

To Miss McKinley's surprise, after she removed the bandages, they found larva growing and squirming within the pores and sores of her breast. Sometimes these wicked creatures would all together simultaneously move around into different crevices. What she didn't know was that the holes were in fact, deeper than she had originally thought for these larvae were feeding off the fat, tissue, and even milk canals of her bosom. And to all of you who have read this article

Damn, after all these years. These still give me goosebumps. It seems the message had been cut off. Also, I couldn't even find the continuation in my Inbox. Oh and hey, I'm not telling you to remove all your plans of travel to South America. I'm not also saying here that when you go to South America you will all get this problem.

There's still lots of wonderful and safe places to visit there. All I'm saying here is the consequences you're going to get when not properly informed about the places you are visiting.

Well anyway, I guess I have to finish it somehow. Okay, here's a try..

"And to all of you who have read this article...", remember to always be wary and cautious where you go and crawl into. It is also a good idea to get as many information as you can regarding the place you are traveling to such as weather, the type of environment, diseases and sickness currently in the area and many more. Be cautious also on where you put your belongings. Remember to drink your vitamins and minerals and raise your body resistance. Always sterilize yourself with alcohol when in doubt of what you have handled.

More Marriage Jokes!!

Sorry if I messed your stomach with the last post, but it was an eye-opener. There a lot of email verification, social networking invitations, spam and other stuff in my inbox and I just have to delete them and remove un-important mails.

I came by upon emails from my bestfriend. Some were funny, others were informative and some are disturbing and freaky.

Thought I'd share one today. I think I will be posting the rest on some other posts. This was only forwarded to me. Here's one about sushi.

I only started eating sushi this year and loved it!

Do you still want to eat Sushi? Think TWICE!!

This is a true case of a Japanese man from Gifu Prefecture who incessantly about a persistent headache. Mr. Shota Fujiwara loves his sashimi and sushi very much to the extent of trying to get them as "alive and fresh" as can be for his insatiable appetite.

He developed a severe headache, but for the past three years had put it off as migraine and stress from work. It was only when he started losing his phsyco-motor skills that he sought medical help. A brain scan and x-ray revealed little however. But upon closer inspection by a specialist on his scalp, the Doctor noticed small movements beneath his skin. It was then that the Doctor did a local anaesthetic to his scalp and discovered the cause!

Tiny tapeworms crawled out! Major surgery was thus immediately called for and the extent of the infestation was horrific! Remember : tapeworms, roundworms and their eggs which abound in all fish, fresh or saltwater, can only be killed by thorough cooking and/or freezing the fish to between -4 deg C - 0 degsC

Here are the pics:

I Call Upon Super-Slow Net Connection

This was the most disappointing day of my work. Before starting work, we had a meeting with the Guidance Counselor uh.. I mean with the Admin during our General Assembly. Why shouldn't they... lots of meanies at the office.

So to fight of the meanies they had to be strict. That's good.

But it had to get worse, internet connection was pretty darn buggy. I can download files from the FTP but I cannot upload any. This really had me because when my FTP client failed uploading the file, the file size of what I'm uploading was 0Kb. In short, the file was corrupted. Then I turned to my browser and refreshed the page.

I was irritated because the site was totally messed up. I tried other websites and they were loading, and fast too. So, I was questioning what seems to be the problem there? Darn it!

Our technical solved the problem after a few hours, and I was uploading the file. It was working at last. Good. I refreshed the site once more and it was rendering properly.

Our technical basically switched the LAN cables on my computer. But I was suffering again with the pretty slow connection. But it didn't matter as long as there's connection and I can upload files.

I did my task; converted some videos, modified some pages and uploaded them to the server. Ten minutes past and the uploaded video was at only 3 percent. Goodness!

Dizziness, nausea, and sleepiness were crawling in. My vision was already turning. To keep my self from sleeping and avoid getting a memo, I grabbed my novel book and just enjoyed reading the story. The feeling of being sleepy is slowly fading. I glanced at the FTP client; it now at 12%.

"This may take awhile", I said to myself. What a darn night it is. The connection was irritating but I'm loving my novel anyways. So, no argue with that. I'm benefiting anyways. Hehehe

I wonder what exciting nights will happen in the future.

After Sharee's Baccalaureate

Today was my little sister's baccalaureate mass. The rest of the family participated in the mass. I, on the other hand, was walking in circles in the parking area, carrying Gebryl while singing High by Lighthouse Family, Everytime I Close My Eyes, and White Christmas.

Why? Gebryl was in a bad mood and kept crying because he was sleepy. Oftentimes, he's grouchy when sleepy. It's a good thing I have such wonderful voice (ahem), that he would sleep when I sang to him. I really have such serenading voice(ahem).

Anyways, after the mass, we went to Gaisano Mall to eat. We went to McDonald's, Geb's second home. We sat him on a children's chair and gave him his meal, some fries and Coke. And don't forget his Sundae (Chocolate Fudge), which is the most important part of his food group.

After eating, we strolled around the Mall and saw the merry-go-train in the Mall. Sharee wanted to ride the train with Geb. So they bought some tickets and prepared to board the train. However, the train was already full thus it was decided that they would board the train on the next run.

The train started to run and Geb was starting to get angry that he was not able to board. Sharee had to put him down due to Geb's furious struggling. As the train went with some distance, Geb was suddenly running after the training, shouting and screaming. Sharee and I had to ran after him. Sharee was holding Geb's one hand as we followed the train behind. Geb was still screaming and shouting while raising his other hand in the air with clenched fists.

We had to circumnavigate the mall's activity area following the train two times before it stopped. Geb was so eager to ride the train and Sharee and I had some laughs with Geb's excitement and eagerness.

This was the most fun part of today's activities. I just had to laugh with Geb's behaviour with the train. It reminded me of some one else.. It was nice and simple since I'm not really an artist. However, I'm leaning towards that path. I find creating graphics exciting and interesting.

I learned from several masters namely James Alocelja and Kiev Basaca. But, I'm not yet totally satisfied with what I've done. They looked flat and boring. So I searched for several techniques on the Internet. One tutorial I found was polishing vector arts.

As they said, it's true that vector arts tend to be flat and somewhat lifeless. By polishing vector arts, you create emotions and depth on the art. This really brings out the beauty on vector and raster graphics alike.

So I tried those techniques on what I've done and this is what I got.

The first one is the vector art I made using Inkscape and the other is the same image polished in The GIMP.

I really need to practice more in the field of Graphics Designer/Web Designer areas. Hmm.. I got to find myself some more mentors.

Naruto Finally Knew the Truth

I got to the office and routinely checked my Google Reader. That would be spoiler.

Check it out!

Geb's Birthday

This is a rather late post of this event, but I just wanted to share these pictures. It was a long day as I recall, I had to do double time. I wake up early and prepare all the things I needed.

The event was scheduled for noon and I had so many recipes to cook. I had to cook spaghetti, chop suey, fried chicken, chicken inasal, beef steak, chicken curry, and fruit salad. Joan bought some chocolate fudge cake, made some mango float, and mother bought palabok.

Anyway, here are the pics.

Here's the slideshow:

Median XL

Median XL is a mod or "modification" to the classic Diablo 2 and Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction games. As the meaning suggests, it only modifies the game and the gaming experience.

It's been years since I stopped playing Diablo 2 and Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction. It was quite a thrill but I think it will also years before I reach the maximum level which was level 99. The highest character level I ever got was a level 71 Werewolf Druid and level 62 Bowazon.

It takes quite some time, thousands of monster kills, and reruns of the three Prime Evils themselves.

The gameplay tends to slow as you reach higher levels thus lost its excitement.

Luckily, a friend of mine suggest to try Median XL. So, I searched and downloaded the mod. It's very easy to install, just 1 file swap. Medial XL completely remade the skill tree of the 7 characters in the classic game. There are now a wide range of character build you can make.

A melee sorceress, caster amazon (bloodwitch), holy or unholy paladin, or a throwing barbarian. You create your own path. This entirely brings new gameplay and new meaning to character building.

There are also new runewords each requiring only 1 runeword. But what if the item has 3 slots, does it mean I can make that runeword? Of course not, the requirement is that the last socket should be filled up by the rune. Thus, you can fill jewels or gems first before the required rune.

Download the Median XL mod and enjoy the game. Of course, you need the classic Diablo 2 or Lord of Destruction patch. Sorry guyz.

No doubt about it. There's a lot of Photoshop users wherever you look.

This is almost a re-post of this topic. However, I found out on my blog that everyday, all visitors that reached my site were searching on how to slice on GIMP.

So today, I'll reiterate some parts of the slice post on GIMP.

Slicing is also easy on GIMP but a little bit tricky. It's easiness is also the reason for it being tricky. The core of the whole slicing process in GIMP are the guides.

It's easy because all you need to do is set up some guides to which you desire to slice the image, run the slicing script and your done. Your images are now sliced.

Tricky because improper and irresponsibly placed guides can result to a lot of sliced images to which 80% of those slices are not needed anyway.

There are a lot of available slicing script whether bundled with the GIMP installer or third-pary plugin. Guillotine is one script for slicing. It is available to any platform. Slice script, however, under Filters > Web > Slice is only available to Linux platform (*sigh)

Another slicing method is using the py-slice script which uses Python. I haven't really tried this one yet.

Read more on GIMP Information just for you.

Be Hip and Be Cool

Are you hip and cool? Well, I surely know one who's very cool every time (that is when he's in a good mood)

Check out the glasses, the pose and the look. You can't get any better than that.

Anyway, this was taken on the day of the wedding. We were waiting outside for the judge since he was on a hearing when we arrived. We had to wait for about 2 hours or so.

We surely had enough time for pictorials and candid shots. This was one of them.

Good thing he was in a good mood that day. But when he is not in the mood, you've got one heck of a problem. But that's another story.

This was surely a fun yet stressful day. Go find one... Julia Stiles and Larisa Oleynik were both looking hot in this movie.. O.o Heath Ledger was also in this movie (R.I.P.) *this was the only movie which I clearly saw Heath's face after his role as Joker in The Dark Knight*

Well, anyway, what struck me the most was the poem of Julia Stiles that she recited in her class. It's a good and touching poem full of emotions.

Here is the "10 Things I Hate About You" poem.

I hate the way you talk to me,
and the way you cut your hair.
I hate the way you drive my car,
I hate it when you stare.

I hate your big dumb combat boots
and the way you read my mind.
I hate you so much it makes me sick,
it even makes me rhyme.

I hate the way you're always right,
I hate it when you lie.
I hate it when you make me laugh,
even worse when you make me cry.

I hate it when you're not around,
and the fact that you didn't call.
But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you,
not even close...
not even a little bit...
not even at all.

A Dream of Love with You: A Recipe for an Affair

The sweet smell of her perfume that seems to lift me and carry me through the clouds; the fragrant smell of her hair as she flipped her hair at my side that seems to stop the very beating of my heart; her face getting so red and tears falling from her closed eyes as she laughed so hard.

I could go on and on with how everyday seems forever at the very sight and smell of you. Holding your hand for hours and not just a mere colliding for two seconds. Looking at you where everything seems to vanish and there's nothing else in the world except the two of us and not just stealing away a glimpse for few seconds. The very thought of you making me nervous, making me feel uneasy and clumsy.

But what can I do when it's not my hands that hold you for hours or my eyes looking at you or my heart that you hold dear in yours?

And all that I get is mere few seconds of colliding your hand with mine or a stolen glimpse of your lovely face when you smile.

What's worse is that my heart is owned by someone else. Tied down by the legal bindings of law and blessings of God. Am I just to love you from a distance or will I give in to my feelings and fight my love for you? But is it love that I'm fighting for?

Oh Love, wake up from your slumber and wake me up. If this is all just a dream, then I don't want to ever wake up.

But alas, I must wake up and return to reality. A reality where you could never be mine. A reality where a bottle of beer is my only companion and witness to the love I have for you.
