The 2011 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships will take place January 30 – February 7, 2011.  Competition days will be  February 2 – 5, 2011 and will include aerial, moguls, dual moguls and ski cross competitions at Deer Valley Resort with the ski halfpipe and ski slopestyle competitions at Park City Mountain Resort.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: NEW SNOWFALL OF ONE TO TWO FEET IS EXPECTED BY MONDAY AFTERNOON… WITH THE HIGHER TOTALS ALONG NORTHWEST FACING SLOPES.

* TIMING: SNOW… HEAVY AT TIMES… IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE INTO THIS EVENING. SNOW SHOWERS… SOME HEAVY… WILL THEN CONTINUE OVERNIGHT INTO MONDAY BEFORE TAPERING OFF MONDAY AFTERNOON.

* WINDS: NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS ARE EXPECTED OVER RIDGELINES… WHICH WILL RESULT IN LOCAL BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF NEW SNOW.

… WINTER STORM TO IMPACT TRAVEL THROUGH MONDAY MORNING…

.A PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL SLOWLY CROSS THE REGION THROUGH MONDAY MORNING… BRINGING WIDESPREAD SNOWFALL TO THE WESTERN TWO THIRDS OF UTAH. THIS SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO BE HEAVY AT TIMES TONIGHT… AND WILL LIKELY HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON HOLIDAY TRAVELERS. SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF ACROSS THE REGION MONDAY.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning on November 19th, 2010 for the Park City, Utah area.  The higher elevations such as where the Black Bear Lodge is located in upper Deer Valley are expecting 10 to 20 inches.  This should really add to the base snowpack for Deer Valley Resort’s upcoming opening on December 4, 2010.

Winter Storm Warning For Heavy Snow And Strong Winds…Which Is In
Effect From 7 AM Saturday To 5 AM MST Wednesday.

• Affected Area: The Wasatch Mountain Valleys.

• Snow Accumulations: Total Snow Accumulations Between 10 And 20
Inches Are Expected Between Saturday Morning And Tuesday Night.
Locally Higher Accumulations Of 2 Feet Or More Are Expected In
Areas Favored In Southwest Flow Such As The Ogden Valley.

• Timing: Snow Will Develop During The Day Saturday Across The
Wasatch Mountain Valleys. Periods Of Snow…Heavy At Times…Will
Persist Through Late Tuesday Night As A Series Of Cold Storm
Systems Parade Through The Region.

• Snow Levels: Snow Levels Will Start Out Around 6500 Feet Across
Northern Utah Saturday Then Fall To The Adjacent Valley Floors

The World Freestyle Ski Championships are coming to Utah this February 2-5, and with Olympic ski halfpipe on the horizon for 2014, this year’s event should be one for the record books. Park City Mountain will be the site of the ski cross and halfpipe competitions.

Park City, UT – The Deer Valley Celebrity Ski Fest is considered the premier network celebrity ski weekend, when each December stars from television, film, and the olympic games come to Deer Valley for a magical experience, and to raise money for a good cause.  The DV Celebrity Ski Fest benefits the Waterkeeper Alliance, and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team.   For those interested in attending the event, lodging options are available at The Chateaux, Black Bear Lodge, Deer Valley Club, Stein Eriksen Lodge, or the Goldener Hirsch Inn.

This invitational ski race involving teams of Olympic ski legends and stars from television and film will include a Celebrity Challenge on Saturday at 1 p.m. and a head-to-head Pro-Am race on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The event will take place at Deer Valley Resort on Birdseye ski run located mid-mountain at Silver Lake. 

This event will air on CBS on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at 5 p.m. EST.

Park City Utah – The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory on November 8, 2010 for the Park City Utah area.  It looks like more snow for the Black Bear Lodge at Deer Valley Resort!  It looks like last week’s Thriller Snow Dance worked!

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: ACCUMULATIONS OF 14 TO 22 INCHES ARE EXPECTED… WITH LOCALLY GREATER AMOUNTS ALONG THE WEST FACING SLOPES OF WASATCH MOUNTAINS EAST OF THE SALT LAKE CITY AREA.

* TIMING: SNOW… LOCALLY HEAVY AT TIMES… WILL CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING HOURS. SNOW SHOWERS WILL LINGER INTO TUESDAY MORNING… THEN RAPIDLY DECREASE DURING THE LATE MORNING HOURS.

* SNOW LEVELS: SNOW LEVELS NEAR 7000 FEET LATE THIS MORNING WILL DROP DRAMATICALLY DURING THE AFTERNOON BEHIND A COLD FRONT.

… TURNING COLDER WITH HEAVY SNOW FOR THE MOUNTAINS…

.A COLD PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH ACROSS UTAH THROUGH TONIGHT. THE ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT HAS MOVED ACROSS NORTHWEST UTAH AND WILL SWEEP ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE STATE THIS AFTERNOON. HIGH SNOW LEVELS AHEAD OF THE FRONT WILL FALL RAPIDLY BEHIND THE FRONT… WITH PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW TODAY THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.

Park City Mountain prepares to bring on the snow with the second annual “Thriller Snow Dance” October 29, 2010.  The “Thriller Snow Dance” will be held on the Town Lift Plaza, located on Lower Main Street, in Park City. Practice will take place from 3-5 p.m. and the Thriller Snow Dance will begin at 5 p.m. Participants are encouraged to don zombie and/or winter attire to dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. Make-up artists will be on-hand to help paint faces.
