With
the BlackBerry Q10 launching in the next few months, Donny from the
Inside BlackBerry Blog shares with us the top 5 things you should know
about the device.

The BlackBerry Q10 is the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone to feature a classic BlackBerry hardware physical keyboard. This device combines the iconic BlackBerry keyboard and the power of the BlackBerry 10 platform to bring you what we consider the best smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard on the market. Since I previously showed you five highlights of the BlackBerry Z10, I wanted to share five things you need to know about the BlackBerry Q10 experience.

The keyboard is bigger and better. The BlackBerry
Q10 features a straight keyboard design, and is wider than earlier
BlackBerry smartphones. The metal frets between the keys are also
bigger, offering a more visual appeal while helping to eliminate errors
while typing on the go.

The BlackBerry Q10 has the largest battery of any BlackBerry smartphone, ever.
The BlackBerry Q10 battery is 2100 mAh in size, which means, well, you
can talk, work and play nearly all day on a single charge.

Better shortcuts with Type and Go. This
time-saving feature is essentially a shortcut that allows you to send
messages faster than ever before. All you have to do is start typing an
action like “email” or “BBM,” then a name, and you can quickly take action. Message sent. BOOM!

The design is meticulous, light and durable. The
back plate on the BlackBerry Q10 is made of a unique glass-weave
material that is lighter and stronger than plastic. The device is
surrounded by a machined stainless steel frame with a durable black
coating, which is designed to prevent the edges from chipping and keeps
your BlackBerry Q10 looking good.

The BlackBerry Q10 is a BlackBerry 10 device, and it performs like one.
The BlackBerry Q10 was designed to offer amazing performance available
on BlackBerry 10 devices like the BlackBerry Z10. In terms of features
and functionality, it runs on the same BlackBerry 10 platform, it can
run the same apps, and has a removable back plate for easily replacing
the battery or swapping your SIM card.

We’ve told you about the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q10; now
choosing which BlackBerry 10 device is up to you.

Nimbuzz has always been available for Java BlackBerry devices, now they
are going towards BlackBerry 10 by porting their Android app, which
works properly but we’d still like to see if Nimbuzz will make a native
BlackBerry 10 app or not!

This is great for people who like to stay in touch with family and
friends while on the go. Glad to see so many choices for BlackBerry 10
when it comes to instant messaging everyone.

BlackBerry has just pushed out an update for
their very popular Twitter application. The new update is more or less
for maintenance and fixes bugs that popped up on the previous release.
It’s really great to see that BlackBerry still hasn’t forgotten about
the users who aren’t on BlackBerry 10 even though there have been a lot
of push and focus on the new BlackBerry 10 platform.

The update is only available for BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 and up, and not for BlackBerry 10.

Bug fixes

SSL enabled by default for all communications

The latest version provides you an enhanced navigation experience, with a familiar look.

Features:

Connect Tab

See all of your interactions – mentions, replies, who retweeted, favorited and followed you.

Discover Tab

Who to follow

Twitter 2.0 is available for BlackBerry Device Software 4.6 or later.

The update is currently being rolled out, so expect the update to
show up on BlackBerry World. If the update doesn’t show up yet on your

BlackBerry users have been giddy about the
announcement of Skype coming to BlackBerry 10. Official word from Skype
has revealed that it is an Android port. We found out on January 30th that Skype would indeed be coming to
BlackBerry 10, but we were not told whether or not it would be a native
app.

Thanks to some information on Skype’s site we now know that the
BlackBerry 10 app will indeed be a port of the Android one. Now this
isn’t the worst news, but we were hoping that we would see a native
cascades app for Skype. In the end as long as it works and we can use
Skype on our BlackBerry 10 devices, the way in which it got there is not
an issue.

Now before
get all worried, know that it is not all that bad. I’ve seen Skype on
the Z10 and it looks amazing. Skype has been working very close with
BlackBerry.

How close? Enough to have the Android
action bar look nearly identical to that of a native BlackBerry 10 app.
It runs so well due to the integration of support for Jellybean in an
upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS update.

Skype for BlackBerry 10 won’t be native right away, but it certainly won’t be terrible.

How well will it integrate?
Will it be an Android port? Well, we don't have all of those answers
yet, but it's looking like we can at the very least confirm it will be
an Android port based on the information shown above which comes directly from the Skype website.

Instagram will indeed come to the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10,
we've gotten one step closer as you can now view Instagram photos right
from the web -- that includes the mobile browser on your BlackBerry on
both BlackBerry 10 and older BlackBerry models as well.

If you have recently come back into the fold of BlackBerry from iOS
and Android and missing Instagram? While we still don’t have an
official Instagram app on our BlackBerry Z10′s, there is a way in which
you can still check out all your friends filtered photos from the
browser.

If you're already signed up for Instagram, you can simply head to
Instagram.com to see your full feed that includes photos from people you
follow along with the ability to like and leave comments. So while you
can't post photos just yet, at least you can still check out
what's happening in your feed. Hopefully it's enough to tide over a few
users for now.

Blipper App Description:

Welcome to Blippar – a free magic ‘lens’ which uses your device’s
camera to ‘blipp’ and instantly unlock the world around you with
exclusive information, entertainment and virtual experiences.

‘Blipp’ any real world item carrying the ‘blipp’ instruction – such
as magazines, newspapers, billboards, travel cards, logos or even
grocery products. By simply holding your phone up in blippar mode to
look at the image, it will magically jump to life with an exclusive
content experience.

Experiences might appear overlaid or ‘augmented’ over the real-world
image or object (such as interactive games or magical digital
apparitions); or it could take the form of a simple web-link (to watch a
trailer, visit a website or ‘like’ on facebook), or perhaps an
exclusive ‘take-away’ – something simple which downloads immediately to
your phone for future use (such as a coupon or recipe). You won’t know
until you ‘blipp’…

Always free to users, blippar is a magical new way for your favourite
publishers, brands and retailers to get exciting new messages, offers,
experiences and helpful real-time information to you. Simply ‘blipp’ for
more!

How it works:
• Browse the in-app catalogue or look for a blippar [b] instruction in the real world
• Hold your phone up in blippar mode and fill the screen with the image or object
• Blipp!
• No photo-taking – just hold, wait, enjoy and share!

NB: Blippar is a new interactive mobile platform with content and
‘blipp’ experiences being added daily. Be sure to keep checking your app
catalogue for updated ‘blipps’ around you or sign up for updates at
blippar.com. Join us on facebook and twitter to give us your feedback
and tell us what you’d like to see ‘blippable’!

Foursquare released a slick BlackBerry 10 app which they are working
on adding more features to. One of the cool functionality enablers is
the SDK that Foursquare has opened up to other developers on BlackBerry
10. This is the FIRST SDK that Foursquare has released and it opens up
Foursquare to third party apps. The first feature they opened in single
sign on which allows users to connect their Foursquare accounts with one
click. That means you can now let a user login using their Foursquare
account in 6 lines of code!!! They also opened up a place picker API that lets developers pull in data from foursquare for a location.

The SDK uses BlackBerry’s new Invocation framework to allow
third-party apps to interact with Foursquare. It provides developers
Single Sign-On (SSO) capabilities for Foursquare users and a simple way
to query Foursquare for nearby venues.

With SSO, users will be able to authorize an app to connect to their
Foursquare accounts in much the same way Facebook does on other
platforms. They won’t need to log in first, they’ll just tap “Allow” to
connect. If you’ve connected more than a handful of apps to your
Foursquare account before, you know what a benefit it is to skip the
username and password.

Hundreds of apps — from Instagram to Untappd — already incorporate
Foursquare venues. The new features included in the SDK will make that
easier for other developers. By including a few lines of code, they’ll
be able to use Foursquare’s native venue search features without having
to write the GPS and API logic behind it.

These moves should prove a boon to BlackBerry developers. With
Foursquare pre-installed on every phone, SSO with Foursquare could be
almost a prolific as Facebook, while including a simple venue search SDK
could make Foursquare the de facto standard for location information on
BlackBerry 10 devices.
be one week after the BlackBerry president/CEO and some of his cohorts
introduced the world to the completed BlackBerry 10 OS and Z10 and Q10 handsets.

The BlackBerry Z10 had a nice start, after all.BlackBerry said it nearly tripled the sales of its best performance over
the first week in the U.K., while it had its best first day ever in
Canada.

So impressive that BlackBerry is
already announcing that it was their best launch day ever. Thorsten
Heins went on record stating just how well it turned out:

WATERLOO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – Feb. 6, 2013) – BlackBerry(R) (NASDAQ:BBRY)(TSX:BB) today issued the following statement:
"In Canada, yesterday was the best day ever for the first day of a launch of a new BlackBerry smartphone. In fact, it was more than 50% better than any other launch day in our history in Canada," said Thorsten Heins, President & CEO of BlackBerry. "In the UK, we have seen close to three times our best performance ever for the first week of sales for a BlackBerry smartphone."

That gives us a pretty good idea of numbers though hopefully we will hear something official.

One of my favorite apps if not my favorite app on the BlackBerry PlayBook has made its way to BlackBerry 10, Until then Innovatology has
released a BlackBerry 10 version of their slick Files & Folders app
for BlackBerry 10. I have been waiting for this app to get released since I got my
BlackBerry Z10. This app gives you not only access to the files on
your phone but also Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, Google Docs, SugarSync
and Microsoft SkyDrive.

I tried the BlackBerry 10 version of Files & Folders and I have
to say I am impressed. The app is fluid and works beautifully on
BlackBerry 10 with a Cascades overhaul. Now if only they could find a
way to tie these services back into the native file manager.

“BlackBerry is working with Trend

Together, the two companies can further secure and enhance BlackBerry
customers’ mobile experience.”

Well the good news on the app front just keep on coming. StubHub
has made the very successful The post StubHub app for BlackBerry 10 now
available in BlackBerry World.

The StubHub app brings the world’s largest fan-to-fan ticket marketplace
to your Blackberry, making it easier than ever to find seats to your
favorite sporting events, concerts, and theater performances. Also you
can find events your way by search, browse, or zero-in on your
favorites. You can see where your seats are located and get detailed
ticket info before you buy. You can look for events in your city or
switch to another location and find the tickets you’re looking for with
price and quantity filters . You can track your favorite teams, bands,
and shows to find out when they’re in town. Finally you can check your
orders in My Account.

StubHub (not to be confused with the telco called Starhub Ltd) is the
largest fan to fan ticket marketplace with quite a large following. This allows you to find seats and browse available
options in your area. You can also checkout and find your orders in your
account. The app seems to be native but does not use Cascades which is a
shame. Either way its pretty slick!
Category,BlackBerry welcomes more than 1000 of the top app partners with
relevant, local content from every region of the globe.

I have a lot of good things to say about the smartphone, but one area
that does not currently impress is the selection of quality BlackBerry
10 applications in the BlackBerry World store. BlackBerry has been
talking up the number of apps in BlackBerry World for weeks now, but I
still don't see most of the popular apps I use frequently on other
mobile platforms.

RIM has rolled out an update to BlackBerry World for BlackBerry 7 and
earlier devices in the Beta Zone. This new update to v4.3 mainly changes
the branding from BlackBerry App World to simply BlackBerry World.

There really isn’t much new in this
release, but it includes bug fixes to improve the overall performance of
the application, as well as the rebranding from ‘BlackBerry App World’
to ‘BlackBerry World’.

They
are doing this to line up with the name change RIM made recently. They
have also addressed some issues and improved performance which is always
nice to hear, This was done in order to have continuity with the BlackBerry 10 launch.

If you’re a member of the Beta Zone, just head
over to blackberry.com/beta and register for the program to download the update. Let us know what you of the update, BlackBerry World 4.3 beta is available for OS 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 7.1

You can download it, or sign up for a free beta account at the BlackBerry Beta Zone.

BlackBerry confirms that they are currently in talks to bringing Instagram and Netflix to BlackBerry 10.
Today as BlackBerry announced they will be bringing Skype to their
platform, like Thorsten Heins said “this is just the beginning”, well
looks like he was not playing norsatisfied his motto “Keep moving” is currently in full affect.

Say this for BlackBerry — they seem to know they have an app problem and they’re working hard trying to fix it. A BlackBerry spokesperson has told AllThingsD that the company is “in talks” with both Instagram and Netflix (NFLX) to make mobile applications specifically for the BlackBerry 10
platform. So
BlackBerry fans may have to wait a while before they have access to two
of the biggest apps in the mobile world. As we noted earlier, Instagram’s absence on BlackBerry 10 is particularly glaring because RIM claims it has a strong partnership with Instagram owner Facebook (FB).
