Twitter for BlackBerry Gets Updated to 4.0.0.17

BlackBerry has just pushed out an update for their very popular Twitter application. The new update is more or less for maintenance and fixes bugs that popped up on the previous release. It’s really great to see that BlackBerry still hasn’t forgotten about the users who aren’t on BlackBerry 10 even though there have been a lot of push and focus on the new BlackBerry 10 platform.

The update is only available for BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 and up, and not for BlackBerry 10.

Skype for BlackBerry 10 is an Excellent Android Port

BlackBerry users have been giddy about the announcement of Skype coming to BlackBerry 10. Official word from Skype has revealed that it is an Android port. We found out on January 30th that Skype would indeed be coming to BlackBerry 10, but we were not told whether or not it would be a native app.

Thanks to some information on Skype’s site we now know that the BlackBerry 10 app will indeed be a port of the Android one. Now this isn’t the worst news, but we were hoping that we would see a native cascades app for Skype. In the end as long as it works and we can use Skype on our BlackBerry 10 devices, the way in which it got there is not an issue.

Now before get all worried, know that it is not all that bad. I’ve seen Skype on the Z10 and it looks amazing. Skype has been working very close with BlackBerry.

How close? Enough to have the Android action bar look nearly identical to that of a native BlackBerry 10 app. It runs so well due to the integration of support for Jellybean in an upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS update.

Skype for BlackBerry 10 won’t be native right away, but it certainly won’t be terrible.

How well will it integrate? Will it be an Android port? Well, we don't have all of those answers yet, but it's looking like we can at the very least confirm it will be an Android port based on the information shown above which comes directly from the Skype website.

Use The Z10 Browser To Get Your Instagram Fix

Instagram will indeed come to the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10, we've gotten one step closer as you can now view Instagram photos right from the web -- that includes the mobile browser on your BlackBerry on both BlackBerry 10 and older BlackBerry models as well.

If you have recently come back into the fold of BlackBerry from iOS and Android and missing Instagram? While we still don’t have an official Instagram app on our BlackBerry Z10′s, there is a way in which you can still check out all your friends filtered photos from the browser.

If you're already signed up for Instagram, you can simply head to Instagram.com to see your full feed that includes photos from people you follow along with the ability to like and leave comments. So while you can't post photos just yet, at least you can still check out what's happening in your feed. Hopefully it's enough to tide over a few users for now.

Foursquare Releases SDK for BlackBerry 10 Developers

Foursquare released a slick BlackBerry 10 app which they are working on adding more features to. One of the cool functionality enablers is the SDK that Foursquare has opened up to other developers on BlackBerry 10. This is the FIRST SDK that Foursquare has released and it opens up Foursquare to third party apps. The first feature they opened in single sign on which allows users to connect their Foursquare accounts with one click. That means you can now let a user login using their Foursquare account in 6 lines of code!!! They also opened up a place picker API that lets developers pull in data from foursquare for a location.

The SDK uses BlackBerry’s new Invocation framework to allow third-party apps to interact with Foursquare. It provides developers Single Sign-On (SSO) capabilities for Foursquare users and a simple way to query Foursquare for nearby venues.

With SSO, users will be able to authorize an app to connect to their Foursquare accounts in much the same way Facebook does on other platforms. They won’t need to log in first, they’ll just tap “Allow” to connect. If you’ve connected more than a handful of apps to your Foursquare account before, you know what a benefit it is to skip the username and password.

Hundreds of apps — from Instagram to Untappd — already incorporate Foursquare venues. The new features included in the SDK will make that easier for other developers. By including a few lines of code, they’ll be able to use Foursquare’s native venue search features without having to write the GPS and API logic behind it.

These moves should prove a boon to BlackBerry developers. BlackBerry Z10 busting down launch sales records in UK and Canada

Thorsten Heins and Co. are having an awesome Wednesday, which happens to be one week after the BlackBerry president/CEO and some of his cohorts introduced the world to the completed BlackBerry 10 OS and Z10 and Q10 handsets.

The BlackBerry Z10 had a nice start, after all.BlackBerry said it nearly tripled the sales of its best performance over the first week in the U.K., while it had its best first day ever in Canada.

So impressive that BlackBerry is already announcing that it was their best launch day ever. Thorsten Heins went on record stating just how well it turned out:

BlackBerry and Unity are working together to create a Unity deployment add-on product for BlackBerry 10 smartphones, empowering Unity’s over 1.5 million strong developer community to publish their games on these powerful platforms. One of my favorite apps if not my favorite app on the BlackBerry PlayBook has made its way to BlackBerry 10, Until then Innovatology has released a BlackBerry 10 version of their slick Files & Folders app for BlackBerry 10. I have been waiting for this app to get released since I got my BlackBerry Z10. This app gives you not only access to the files on your phone but also Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, Google Docs, SugarSync and Microsoft SkyDrive.

I tried the BlackBerry 10 version of Files & Folders and I have to say I am impressed. The app is fluid and works beautifully on BlackBerry 10 with a Cascades overhaul. Now if only they could find a way to tie these services back into the native file manager.

The onslaught of BlackBerry 10 news continue. Today BlackBerry has announced that it's working with Trend Micro to to fight against malware and address privacy issues with third party applications.

They will be using Trend Micro’s app scanning service to analyze the apps that are submitted to BlackBerry World. WordPress Updated to v2.2.6 for the BlackBerry PlayBook

WordPress for the BlackBerry PlayBook. At this time there is no changelog available, but probably incorporates some small bug fixes, This update takes a small jump from version 2.2.5 to 2.2.6, so one could assume that it is just some bug fixes at this time.

You can track your favorite teams, bands, and shows to find out when they’re in town. Finally you can check your orders in My Account.

StubHub (not to be confused with the telco called Starhub Ltd) is the largest fan to fan ticket marketplace with quite a large following. This allows you to find seats and browse available options in your area. You can also checkout and find your orders in your account. The app seems to be native but does not use Cascades which is a shame. Either way its pretty slick!

BlackBerry World 4.3 Now Available in Beta Zone

RIM has rolled out an update to BlackBerry World for BlackBerry 7 and earlier devices in the Beta Zone. This new update to v4.3 mainly changes the branding from BlackBerry App World to simply BlackBerry World.

There really isn’t much new in this release, but it includes bug fixes to improve the overall performance of the application, as well as the rebranding from ‘BlackBerry App World’ to ‘BlackBerry World’.

They are doing this to line up with the name change RIM made recently. They have also addressed some issues and improved performance which is always nice to hear, This was done in order to have continuity with the BlackBerry 10 launch.

BlackBerry “In Talks” To Bring Instagram & Netflix to BlackBerry 10

BlackBerry confirms that they are currently in talks to bringing Instagram and Netflix to BlackBerry 10. Today as BlackBerry announced they will be bringing Skype to their platform, like Thorsten Heins said “this is just the beginning”, well looks like he was not playing norsatisfied his motto “Keep moving” is currently in full affect.

Say this for BlackBerry — they seem to know they have an app problem and they’re working hard trying to fix it. A BlackBerry spokesperson has told AllThingsD that the company is “in talks” with both Instagram and Netflix (NFLX) to make mobile applications specifically for the BlackBerry 10 platform. So BlackBerry fans may have to wait a while before they have access to two of the biggest apps in the mobile world. As we noted earlier, Instagram’s absence on BlackBerry 10 is particularly glaring because RIM claims it has a strong partnership with Instagram owner Facebook (FB).
