Blackboard Release 8

UEA are, as mentioned in an earlier post, introducing the Blackboard Content System and upgrading the Blackboard Learning and Community Systems over the summer. Further information about Release 8 in brochure, webinar and video format is now available on the Blackboard website.

Please note, however, that UEA will not be using Blackboard’s plagiarism detection software – SafeAssign. UEA has adopted iParadigm’s Turnitin service instead.

Blackboard Downtime: 22nd to 31st August 2008

The Blackboard Learning System and the Blackboard Community System will be unavailable from Friday 22nd August until Sunday 31st August 2008 to upgrade both systems and introduce the Blackboard Content System.

Blackboard Downtime: Tuesday 1 April 2008

The Portal, the Blackboard Learning System and the Blackboard Community Systems will be unavailable for approximately 15 minutes between 7 and 9am (the at-risk period) on Tuesday 1 April to add new Search functionality and to restart the server.

Blackboard Downtime – Sunday 30th March 2008

ITCS will be conducting a number of low level system backups on Sunday 30th March 2008. This will affect all ITCS Services including the Blackboard Learning and Community Systems. It is anticipated that services will be unavailable from 8am until mid-afternoon. Apologies for any inconvenience this will cause.

Blackboard Downtime

The Portal (including the Blackboard Learning System and Community System) will be unavailable for approximately 15 minutes between 7 and 8am on Tuesday 5th February to allow for essential maintenance and server restarts. There may also be further disruption to services between 8 and 9am.

Blackboard Unavailable – Sunday 16th December 2007

The Blackboard Learning System and Community System will be unavailable from 8am until mid-afternoon on Sunday 16th December 2007 in order for ITCS to run low level system backups.

Blackboard Unavailable – Wednesday 19th September

The Blackboard Learning System, Community System and Portal will be unavailable for a few minutes somewhere between 5 and 7pm on Wednesday 19th September 2007.

This downtime is necessary to make changes to the service. Sorry for the inconvenience casued.

Blackboard Unavailable – Thursday 30th August 2007

Blackboard will be unavailable on Thursday 30th August from 4.30pm onwards.Blackboard will be available again on Friday 31st August but should be considered at risk throughout this day.

Blackboard Learning System Available

The new version of the Blackboard Learning System is now available for use. The new version looks and feels similar to the old version of the Learning System but more information about differences will be posted here shortly.

The intention is to introduce the Blackboard Community System and associated portals on the weekend of Saturday 1^st September and Sunday 2^nd September. A short period of downtime may be needed on that weekend as a result but dates and times will be posted here when confirmed. The Blackboard Community System will introduce portal pages, community sites, and a new corporate style to Blackboard at UEA.

The web address for Blackboard has now changed to https://portal.uea.ac.uk/

Upgrade dates

It has been confirmed that the planned upgrade of the Blackboard Learning System will begin at 4.30pm on Friday 3rd August. Blackboard will then be unavailable for use until Monday 13th August.
