Blackboard Learning System: Year End Procedure 2008

Over the summer an enormous amount of work goes into getting the Blackboard Learning System ready for the next academic year. Part of this work involves creating new Blackboard Courses, deciding what to do with existing Blackboard Courses, and ensuring that both staff and students have access to the system.

Details of what you need to do if you are an Instructor on a Blackboard Course are now available. Please read this information carefully and return the relevant forms, if possible, by Friday 25th July 2008.

Please note that this information applies to the Blackboard Learning System (i.e. Courses found under The Portal’s Academic tab) and not the Blackboard Community System (i.e. Organisations found under The Portal’s Faculty tab). No action is needed for the Blackboard Community System.

FAQ – Copying Content Between Blackboard Courses

Question: Will my content be automatically copied from my 2006-2007 Blackboard Course to my 2007-2008 Blackboard Course as part of the UEA End of Year Procedure?

Answer: No – Instructors who wish to reuse content from a 2006-2007 Blackboard Course in a 2007-2008 Blackboard Course must copy the relevant content themselves.

Copying content from one Blackboard Course to another Blackboard Course should take a few minutes. We have produced a screencast and a worksheet to guide instructors through the process.

Blackboard – End of Year Procedure 2007

It’s that time of year again when we work with staff to rollover Blackboard Learning System provision to the next academic year.

To prepare the Blackboard Learning System for the next academic year new 2007-2008 courses need to be created, the status of old 2006-2007 courses needs to be determined, and materials may need to be copied from the old 2006-2007 courses to the new 2007-2008 courses.

We’ve provided guidance for Instructors on our Year End Procedure page. All Instructors should read the information carefully and complete the relevant forms, if possible, by Friday 6th July 2007. As we receive forms we will endeavour to process them as quickly as we can.

Blackboard Summer Upgrade

Over the summer the University is upgrading our current Blackboard service which is called the ‘Blackboard Learning System’ from version 6.3 to 7.1. An additional system – Blackboard’s ‘Community System’ will be incorporated into the overall Blackboard service.

1. Upgrade of the Learning System

The difference between 6.3 and 7.1 is relatively small and apart from one or two areas, most people will only notice minor differences (and hopefully some improvements!).

2. The Community System

The Blackboard Community System is being used for the UEA portal and will be the way into the Blackboard Learning System (our current service).
