By chance, the husband and I were walking past Plancha: A Taco Joint Saturday night around 9pm-ish and saw that people were inside eating. Owner Peter White, whom I spoke to last week, was outside and said it was friends-and-family night and to go on in for a sampling. We happily obliged… (About the food and images after the jump.)

Designer Maxine Dillon—a definite LA Fashion Week standout for spring 2010—has just launched an online shopping component to her site. Currently, you’ll find sale items ranging from $45 for a brass-ringed belt with tie back (love, bottom right) to $161 for a silk charmeuse goddess dress (top left). I have a pair of Dillon’s high-waisted trousers much like the pair shown bottom left ($138), which have been in heavy rotation ever since I purchased them from West 3rd’s Aero & Co. I can envision a similar future for the black photographer dress with epaulets and skinny tie at the waist ($130), shown top right.

When I went to New York Fashion Week in February, I decided to view the Monet exhibit at the MoMa, as I hadn’t seen any of his paintings in quite some time. I almost felt a bit hesitant about going, since Monet’s paintings are so approachable and omnipresent, that I often get the feeling serious art connoisseurs smile with a bit of an attitude at the masses that consider themselves to be “Monet fans.” However, looking at these incredible masterpiece—some of them spanning entire walls—I gained a whole new respect for this man and his exquisite work… (The texture, at the Oscars, and more after the jump.)

Arts – Native Beadworker Teri Greeves Exhibition Opening Saturday

On my way to check out the newly-minted Ross at the Beverly Connection the other night, I walked past the Craft in American Study Center at 8415 West 3rd Street on the same stretch as Plastica and Aero & Co. I’m not sure when it opened, but I was immediately intrigued by the poster for a Teri Greeves Beadwork exhibition, kicking off this Saturday, March 13 with an artist reception at the center from 5pm-8pm. Greeves is Kiowa from Oklahoma, a master beader who collides contemporary with traditional, and has her pieces everywhere from the National Museum of the American Indian to the Brooklyn Museum… (Greeves and her work, RSVP, and more on Craft in America after the jump.)

Events – Designer Standouts at W Hollywood Oscars Style Lounge

There are two things that brought me out to this particular pre-Oscars StyleShopUSA.com-hosted Style Lounge, “Runway to Red Carpet 2010″—the always charming Henri Myers of EM Productions, and the fact it was held at the W Hollywood, which I hadn’t yet seen. The new W is quite grand, dimly lit with spiral staircase, massive chandelier, and lots of red. As for the event, the takeaway was a slew of international (and some local) designers to take note of… (The designers, the dresses and jewelry, and the bar after the jump.)
