Lydia Ola Taiwo is a survivor – a survivor of physical, mental
and emotional abuse at the hands of those who should have loved and
protected her.

A Broken Childhood is the gut-wrenching story of Lydia’s
childhood, and chapter after chapter describes what can only be
called, the soul of a truly evil woman: her mother.

Lydia was a child that never experienced a hug, a mother’s kiss,
a welcoming embrace. There was no one to dry her tears, allay her
fears, or hold her hand. She was a child who grew up watching other
children take for granted the love and care she never had.

Thrown on the floor, her teeth broken, her body cut and scarred from
the wire used to whip her, Lydia knew anger, depression, even thoughts
of suicide. But within her, she found a glimmer of strength, an inner
resolve to pull her through the darkness. Incredibly, she came to
forgive her parents and now her life has become a light for others to
follow.

A Broken Childhood II: Forgiveness shows the way out of the darkness.

“Sorrow may last the night but joy comes in the morning. There
is always a light at the end of the tunnel. However, many people give
up too soon and do not get out. Many people end up dead. And yet, if
you are successful in getting out then what else can you do but
forgive? That is what I had to do to be able to move on with my life.
I thank God that the latter part of my life is far happier than I
could have ever imagined and this is because I have forgiven all those

Many moms these days are looking at how valuable it is to become an entrepreneur or namely a “mompreneur”. If you are one of those moms, then now couldn't be a better time. Now, you may or may not have an idea of what you want to do, so that you can start your business today. If you really don’t have an idea or can't make up your mind, there's no need to fret about it. I've got you covered.

Being mommy is not an easy job at all. You're busy most of the time between your family and your home life. All of this by itself rarely leaves any time for anything else. But now you have that itch because you have been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug. And I'm guessing that one of the most influential reasons is your family.

It's been rough, due to the recession and loss of jobs, and it may seem far fetched to start up a new business. But guess what? Not all entities have not been affected by the recession. Many online businesses are still thriving and doing quite well. One of the advantages they have is putting you in connection with potential clients and customers from all over the country and also around the world. The truth is, if you have a great product or service, people will definitely continue to buy regardless.

If you are a savvy mom and you're dying to get that energy out, you can surely be the next success story. So, now what? Well, you want to make extra money starting your own business, right? Here are a few ideas that may be of help to you. Keep in mind all there is to know about your interests and passions. These are like tour guides that drive the idea for your new small business.

Open an online store – This was actually an idea of mine at one point. I used to be an eBay junkie and considered having my own store there. This can be done on eBay or another marketplace of your choice. You can sell items that you have around your home or other peoples items as well. You can even get items from all those great yard sales that are all around town in the spring and summertime. You can find crafts, dolls, clothing or other items, and sell them in your online store.

You have a choice of setting a price for items instead of using the auction for people to bid. Many people enjoy using eBay because they provide many tools (both free and paid) for sellers to utilize to grow their business.

Surveying – I've done this briefly and it really is easy. However, it can also be time consuming. But overall, survey takers are needed for market research for many companies. Depending on the companies you choose, you can make good money signing on and getting paid for sampling products. Many bloggers do this and make a lucrative income from it. It may even lead to bigger and better ideas to tackle later on down the road if you're still unsure of what you really want to do. You also get free stuff which is always a plus.

Home-based service– If you're a mom that wears many hats in the household, you surely have expertise in something. You might do sewing, cooking, writing, etc. Take your expertise and turn it into a business that you can run out of your home. If you sew and do alterations, you gain clients by having this skill. All you need is home office space or an area where you can set-up for you to perform the day-to-day operations of your business.

Start an Online business – Offering a service that will be beneficial to people in all areas of the world may be just what you need in a business. An online business may be for you if you like to write for example. Some people enjoy writing, so why not blog about things you love? You have so many other options such as offering your services as a freelance writer to clients who need content for their blogs, virtual assistance, book editing, and other content needs like social media and article writing to help grow their businesses.

Basically, there's no need to limit yourself. There are so many online and offline service businesses that you can start and be that mompreneur that you desire to be. Start with your passion in mind because that's where the magic begins. Just taking action will open up your pathway to your purpose and what brings you joy.

To empower parents and students during the college planning process, Varsity Tutors, a premier one-on-one academic tutoring and test prep provider, today released an infographic that highlights all the costs of pursuing higher education. Entitled, “The Real Cost of College,” the infographic breaks down the average estimated costs for enrollment, sources of financial aid and debt averages for full-time undergraduate students.

Student debt surpassed credit card debt in the United States for the first time in 2010. In 2012, the average college student left school owing $27,000 in student loans. These are just a few statistics that emphasize how important it is to understand all the expenses of college and identify potential funding opportunities while planning a student’s path to higher education.

“Now more than ever, it’s crucial that parents and students are aware of the total cost of a degree,” said Varsity Tutors founder and CEO Chuck Cohn. “As the cost of tuition continues to rise, students need to be vigilant about planning ahead and finding the best options for funding their education, not only to attend college in the first place, but also to graduate with an amount of debt they can manage.”

The infographic features key findings from the College Board Annual Survey of Colleges, including these telling statistics:

The total annual expense of attending an in-state public four-year institution – tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation and other expenses – averages $22,261; while an out-of-state four-year public institution averages $35,312 and a private non-profit college or university averages $43,289 each year.
$237 billion in financial aid was given during the 2012-13 school year; the average student received $13,218 in financial aid.
67 percent of 2009 college graduates are in debt with student loans.

The infographic also highlights the different types of financial aid available to students, from grants and scholarships to loans and work study programs.
