Dear readers, we have hit that time once again in the jailbreak cycle when we can all breathe a huge sigh of relief and raise a glass to the jailbreak producers while we overload their servers attempting to download the new and shiny utility that will provide our devices with freedom. Yes, that is right, I am indeed talking about downloading Absinthe 2.0, the latest version of the Chronic Dev Team tool that brings an untethered jailbreak to the majority of our iOS 5.1.1 devices.

We have found ourselves in an all too familiar situation over the last couple of months, stuck in limbo between wanting to update to the latest official firmware, but not knowing when or indeed if a functional jailbreak would be released. Keeping history in mind, we should be able to rest easy in the fact that researchers such as Pod2g have always managed to escape the securities put in place by Apple to bring a jailbreak to the masses, but there will always remain a small part within us that has doubts each time Apple pushes a new version of iOS.

With work on the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak being finished and satisfactorily tested, the team involved have included the files and exploits in a new version of the Chronic Dev Team’s Absinthe tool that was introduced to us as a jailbreak solution for iOS 5.0.1. One of the main benefits of the tool is the extreme simplicity of the interface, with user guidance being provided all the way through and only involving a few clicks to get the job done.

As confirmed by iPhone Dev Team leader MuscleNerd, the 5.1.1 jailbreak will also be available through the use of the tried and tested Redsn0w tool as well as an updated version of the command line interface cinject binary. We already know that a large number of users prefer the familiar interface that the Redsn0w tool offers, but for those who aren’t stuck on familiarity and want to go down the route of using Absinthefor its rather cool and edgy sounding name as well as the simple and intuitive interface, then it is officially available to download now!

Over the past few weeks, security experts have warned Mac users of a new virus making its rounds called the “Flashback trojan“. Flashback is allegedly on over 600,000 Macs, which is roughly 1-percent of the 45 million out there. Flashback exploits a pair of vulnerabilities in older versions of Java. Apple may have patched it, but it is still out there and running on many machines.

How do you know if you are infected? F-Secure has a few Terminal commands to check your machine. For the many who are not adept at keeping their Java updates fresh, terminal commands are going to be even more foreign. The app runs the same checks as you would in Terminal, but automates it for you.

We ran the test ourselves and were clean, but one of our readers found that he had the virus last week. It is definitely worth checking out. If your Mac does have Flashback, F-secure offers a great guide on how to remove it.

Flashback checker is an application that performs the same tasks that you would perform in terminal. Instead of having to enter in the commands, you only need to click a button once. After you click the button, the application will check your mac for virus and then report back. This shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds. If your machine does not have the virus, it will say, “No signs of infection were found”. And if there is virus, you will still need to use the command line tool to remove the virus.

Download Flashback Checker

Unzip if necessary

Open the application (no need to install or move to applications folder)

Click on the only button in the application, “Check for Flashback Infection”

Look at the results below the button after a few seconds

After I Check for Flashback Trojan, It Says My Computer Has Been Infected, What to Do?

If your computer has been infected, you will need to open up Terminal. This can be found in the Utilities folder under Applications. You will need to manually remove the infection. You will need to carefully follow the instructions for removing the infection F-Secure. F-Secure is a great antivirus program and is the authority on such things.

What Else Can I Do After I Check for the Flashback Virus?

It is highly recommended that you update your software from the Mac software update option in the top left corner of your screen. So you now know how to check for the Flashback Trojan; do remember, keeping your software updated helps in keeping your system safe.

Unlock 4 Team have just release of an updated version of their latest software. This new update will unlock/jailbreak iPhone 4/3GS ios 5.0.1. Unmatched by any other solution.

Unlock 4 Team have just released the first and only software capable of jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS up to the very latest ios 5.0.1.
latest ios 5.0.1 from Apple, have produced a very simple, user friendly application which will enable any iPhone owner to unlock/jailbreak iPhone 3GS/4 ios 5.0.1.

Unlock 4 Team formed in early 2010, and have successfully jailbroken and unlocked over 51000 iPhones worldwide. This is unparallelled by any other service in the industry. They have achieved this by combining a user friendly solution with a fantastic customer service department, 24/7 support and bonus features.

The iPhone itself is packed with a wide assortment of features and functions, but it is typically only available on expensive price plans and predetermined networks. This has created anger within the iPhone community as it is believed that the customer deserves the freedom to select their own network provider and price plan.
Unlock 4 Team offer a stunning variety of features, otherwise unavailable on the iPhone. Some of these features include installing the Cydia application, Winterboard, SB Settings, Facetime over 3G and much much more.

One fantastic feature of the software is that upon unlocking/jailbreaking the iPhone one will not loose any of the great features and functionality of the iPhone. This provides the iPhone user absolute freedom over network choice and still have a complete fully functioning device.
The Jailbreak iPhone 4 ios 5.0.1 and Unlock iPhone 4 ios 5.0.1 software comes with a full 30 day money back guarantee, lifetime updates and most important of all, lifetime support. If you require first class service at an affordable price, there is only one simple decision that has to be made.

Finally was released the update of Absinthe, the tool used for the jailbreak of A5 devices (iPad 2 and iPhone 4S) on iOS 5.0.1, has just been updated to version 0.4.

We’ve been mightily impressed with this particular jailbreak, perhaps more so than those released previously. Not just because it managed to crack every device currently running Apple’s iOS 5.0.1, but it has been well-maintained ever since, with constant updates and maintenance releases ensuring the smoothest possible jailbreaking experience moving forward.

We can’t quite recall seeing quite as much dedication amongst the devs striving to unlock the full potential of our iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. Just before the jailbreak was released, a so-called Dream Team was formed, consisting of some of the cream of the jailbreak scene, and aiding the Chronic Dev-Team to meet the demands of the famously-impatient (and oft ungrateful) public as quickly as possible.

Even now, the site’s crash reporter feature means you can notify the team enabling issues to be resolved in an efficient manner. Although jailbreaking in any way, shape or form is viewed in a negative light by those gracing Cupertino, Tim Cook’s software developers could certainly take a leaf from the Chronic Dev-Team’s book when it comes to swiftly releasing updates to fix problems.

Here’s the short changelog listing the improvements:

Version 0.4

~~~~~~~~~~~
Mac: added support for OSX 10.5, PPC and Intel CPU
added consistency check on startup to make sure required files are in place
Windows: fixed bug in payload generator that might cause a crash
Please note, there’s no need to re-jailbreak, so this release only applies to those who have yet to jailbreak their devices. At the bottom of this post are direct links, straight from the greenpois0n website.
Absinthe is a GUI tool which is intended to provide an untethered jailbreak for the following devices and firmwares:
* iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
* iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1
Unlike the apparent panic displayed by Apple in the run-up to the original iOS 5 release, which saw an near-unprecedented number of betas seeded to members of the fruit company’s developer program, there have been comparatively few reports of what is to be expected with its first major revision – iOS 5.1.
Then again, with the 5.0.1 jailbreak talk having quickly transcended into third-generation iPad fanaticism, it’s hardly a surprise. Although there have been a few beta of versions of iOS 5.1 floating about, it was still unclear as to when it would actually be released. That was, of course, until the media event was announced, and today, in front of those present at the rather ceremonious congregation of press, shareholders and suits, Apple has released the final version of iOS 5.1 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
Although the iPhone 4 Antennagate scandal is often regarded as Apple’s biggest ‘fail’ in the smartphone and tablet market, the iPhone 4S battery issues this time around were enough to mark the otherwise smooth release of iOS 5.x. Said battery problems should now enter folklore.
With a new update to iOS comes the inevitability of yet another cat and mouse chase with the jailbreak scene. The first iOS 5 jailbreak took just over two months to be completed, allowing those running A4 devices to enjoy an early New Year’s present in December. Midway through January, though, the so-called jailbreak “Dream Team” produced the perfect tonic (specifically, Absinthe) to those waiting on tenterhooks with their A5 devices.
iPhone 4S, successor of iPhone 4 was launched back in October 2011, despite it was similar in design to iPhone 4 it came with radical internal hardware changes like running latest Apple A5 processor, which also powers Apple’s second generation tablet, iPad 2. Unfortunately getting first untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S turned out difficult task as Limera1n bootrom exploit found in A4 devices was fixed in iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Even after all the odds iPhone hackers have once again proved themselves by releasing first iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak Absinthe.
We have already posted updates related to Corona untethered jailbreak which will be available in three different forms and Absinthe is the first form of A5 untethered jailbreak. Absinthe is the GUI tool and only available for Mac at the moment (Windows released expected any time) which can jailbreak iPhone 4S & iPad 2 on iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1.
Considering difference in jailbreak procedure compared to older jailbreak tools like Redsn0w and JailbreakMe, we have decided to post complete step by step procedure with screenshots and video tutorial on how to untethered jailbreak iPad 2 and iPhone 4S using Absinthe.
So without much ado here we present our complete guide on Absinthe untethered jailbreak.
How to Jailbreak iPad 2 and iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0.1/5.0
1 – Download Absinthe for Mac OS X From here
2 – Download iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (only if you are on non 5.x firmware)
3 – Connect your device to Mac/PC and start iTunes
4 – Now select your device from device list and right click and select “Back up” device
5 – Now if you are non 5.x firmware then press Option + restore button in iTunes and browse and select download firmware in step 2 respective to your device (iPad 2/iPhone 4S).
Note: Restoring firmware will erase your device completely and you will lose all your data, so you must take backup before restoring firmware.
6 – Complete the entire restore process.
7 – Now start Absinthe and press jailbreak button once it detects the connected A5 device
Few days ago we told you that the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package was released to Jailbreak the iOS 5.0.1 firmware Untethered. We even shared with you a complete how to guide on Jailbreaking your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad Untethered using the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package. One problem that I know a lot of you faced after Jailbreaking Untethered with Corona 5.0.1 Untether, however, was that certain Cydia tweaks would not function correctly. This is because the iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak effected a very crucial extension library called launchctl that numerous Cydia tweaks and applications rely on.
The developer of Cydia, Saurik has recently mentioned that to fix these problems, updates to the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package have been made. The first update Saurik pushed brought Corona 5.0.1 Untether to version 1.0-2, which fixed the launchctl error. Shortly after Saurik mentioned the 1.0-2 update, he tweeted that another update has been made to run over iOS Devices that were Jailbroken with RedSn0w to Untether their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad running the iOS 5.0.1 firmware dubbed version 1.0-3. As it appears even users who Jailbroke Untethered with RedSn0w encountered errors with launchctl not working correctly.
With all of this information in mind it is important you update or download and install Corona 5.0.1 Untether version 1.0-3 to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad now. Don’t forget, if you have any questions or thoughts please leave them in the comments section below.
Note: In order to update you will need to go into the Changes tab and wait for Cydia to refresh itself.
Corona 5.0.1 Untether is a Cydia package to Jailbreak the iOS 5.0.1 firmware Untethered. The unique thing about the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Jailbreak is that it is the first Jailbreak based off of simply installing a Cydia package. Now, the reason you would want to use the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package is if you are currently Jailbroken on the iOS 5.0.1 firmware tethered and do not want to have to use a Jailbreaking tool like RedSn0w o.9.1ob1 or PwnageTool 5.0.1 to Re-Jailbreak your iOS Device. Corona 5.0.1 Untether supports all iOS devices that can run the iOS 5.0.1 firmware, except the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
A jailbreak tool recently unleashed on Cydia can “untether” your existing (tethered) iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak, which means that you won’t have to do a restore, and that you won’t lose anything important, such as photos, apps, etc.
Corona 5.0.1 Untether Supports:
iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA)
iPhone 3GS
iPod Touch 4G
iPod Touch 3G
First Generation iPad
In this How To guide from iJailbreak.com you will learn How To use the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package to Jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad running the iOS 5.0.1 firmware untethered.
Corona 5.0.1 Untether Jailbreak
Step 1 – The first thing you need to do launch Cydia from your SpringBoard (homescreen).
Note: This Corona 5.0.1 Untether How To guide assumes that you are already Jailbroken tethered on the iOS 5.0.1 firmware. If you are not then we suggest using RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 or the PwnageTool 5.0.1. Additionally, ensure you do not have the Semi-Tethered Jailbreak Cydia package installed on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. If you do then you will need to uninstall the Semi-Tethered Cydia package before proceeding.
Step 2 – With Cydia up and running you will need to head on over to Cydia’s Search tab and then type in the following phrase into the search field:
Corona 5.0.1 Untether
Note: If any essential updates are available upon launching Cydia you will need to first install these updates before proceeding.
Step 3 – When you see Corona 5.0.1 Untether displayed on the search results click it and then install it to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
Note: If you don’t see Corona 5.0.1 Untether on the search results, go into the Changes tab and refresh your sources.
Step 4 – After the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package is installed to your iOS device you will need to simply click the Return To Cydia button.
Step 5 – To ensure that this iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak worked you will need to power off your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Then simply power on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and wait for it to reboot itself. If your iOS device reboots into a usable state then this Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak worked!
Troubleshooting: If you could not reboot after installing the Corona 5.0.1 Cydia package then you will need to re-boot your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad using a Jailbreaking tool like RedSn0w. Once you reboot your iOS device launch Cydia and go into the Manage tab, followed by the Packages section. From here double check to see if you have BigBoss’s SemiTethered Jailbreak installed; if you do you will need to uninstall it and try reinstalling the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package. If you still do not get success then we suggest trying another method of Jailbreaking such as using RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 or PwnageTool 5.0.1.
Congratulations! You have just Jailbroken your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad Untethered on the iOS 5.0.1 firmware using the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package.
Update #1: If you guys are experiencing errors with launching and installing Cydia tweaks please click here for more information and a fix.
If you have been following us, we informed you that the next-generation iPad may include an A5X dual core chip instead of an A6 quad-core. The post we made included the photo of the iPad 3 logic board that showcased the A5X processor. Here it is again for those of you who missed that post. Continued after the break!
The A4 chip of the original iPad was called S5L8930X, while the A5 chip of the iPad 2 was called S5L8940X, and the A5X chip is named as S5L8945X. If we compare the labeling between A4 and A5, the jump was of 10, while it is only 5 between A5 and A5X. This would mean a half-way upgrade, meaning a chip with improved graphics but still a dual-core processor.
If this pattern is to be followed, the A6 processor would be called S5L8950X. We have news for you! We found for you evidence that Apple is working on the A6 chip. Below is an image of iOS 5.1 betas which has references to two next-generation iOS device chips: A5 (S5L8945X) and A6 (S5L8950X). Even though nobody has found the A6 (50X) chip in the code until now, they are reporting both next-generation processors entered the iOS code simultaneously. This seems to indicate that Apple has been working on both the chips.
The speculation of why the two-generation chips are in the code can be a long one. However, there are few possibilities. First, Apple may have developed both chips simultaneously to see which is better suited for the iPad 3. Secondly, the A6 processor is for the iPad 3 while the A5X chip may be for the rumored Apple TV update, the iPhone 5 or another iOS device. Thirdly, The A5X is for the iPad 2 that Apple plans to sell at a lower price while the A6 will be for the higher priced iPad 3. In the end, the A5X could turn out to be for the mini-iPad.
However, the conclusion is that the fruit company has been working on both the chips, the A5X and the A6. However, which chip the iPad 3 will feature when it arrives in March is not known. We can only wait and speculate. Don’t worry! The wait isn’t long. We have already heard the iPad 3 shipments have begun. We will keep you updated!
A few hours ago, we posted about a leaked image related to the upcoming iPad 3 indicating tapered edges and an 8-megapixel camera. Today, we have more news for you. WeiPhone, a Chinese site, has a forum post with an image which shows an “A5X” system-on-a-chip on the iPad 3′s logic board. All the rumors till now have indicated towards an A6 quad-core processor but if assumption comes true, the fruit company would offer an upgraded package labelled with the “A5X” name. Details after the slide!
The A5X has a date code of “1146″ which shows that its manufacturing took place in the 46th week of last year, which means the 2nd-3rd week of November so it may turn out to be a prototype. The image of the chip also corresponds with the progression of processor parts revealed by BGR in February.
A pair of 16 GB flash memory chips along with a rectangular Apple-branded chip are also visible on the logic board. The A5X also corresponds with the power management chips like in previous iPad teardowns. However, it suggests an upgraded part as it carries a higher part number.
March 7th is the likely date for the iPad 3 launch. With the Retina display, an 8 mega-pixel camera, LTE and an A6 quad-core processor (if the above assumption doesn’t come true). Let’s see what happens. Meanwhile, keep following your favorite iPad 3 newsblog and share your thoughts with us.
