Over the past few weeks, security experts have warned Mac users of a new virus making its rounds called the “Flashback trojan“. Flashback is allegedly on over 600,000 Macs, which is roughly 1-percent of the 45 million out there. Flashback exploits a pair of vulnerabilities in older versions of Java. If your machine does not have the virus, it will say, “No signs of infection were found”. And if there is virus, you will still need to use the command line tool to remove the virus.

We have already posted updates related to Corona untethered jailbreak which will be available in three different forms and Absinthe is the first form of A5 untethered jailbreak. Absinthe is the GUI tool  and only available for Mac at the moment (Windows released expected any time) which can jailbreak iPhone 4S & iPad 2 on iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1.

Considering difference in jailbreak procedure compared to older jailbreak tools like Redsn0w and JailbreakMe, we have decided to post complete step by step procedure with screenshots and video tutorial on how to untethered jailbreak iPad 2 and iPhone 4S using Absinthe.

So without much ado here we present our complete guide on Absinthe untethered jailbreak.

How to Jailbreak iPad 2 and iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0.1/5.0

1 – Download Absinthe for Mac OS X From here

2 – Download iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (only if you are on non 5.x firmware)

3 – Connect your device to Mac/PC and start iTunes

4 – Now select your device from device list and right click and select “Back up” device

5 – Now if you are non 5.x firmware then press Option + restore button in iTunes and browse and select download firmware in step 2 respective to your device (iPad 2/iPhone 4S).

Note: Restoring firmware will erase your device completely and you will lose all your data, so you must take backup before restoring firmware.

6 – Complete the entire restore process.

7 – Now start Absinthe and press jailbreak button once it detects the connected A5 device

8 – Wait for Absinthe to complete the jailbreak process which involves beginning jailbreak process, sending initial data, waiting for reboot, preparing jailbreak data, sending payload data and final stage almost done.

9 – Once you see Almost done message on Absinthe, unlock your iPhone 4S/iPad 2 by sliding the unlock button.

10 – You will notice a new icon “absinthe” placed on your homescreen as shown in below screenshot’.

11 – Click on Absinthe App (make sure you are connected internet via WIFI or 3G) and let it finish the rest of jailbreak process., you iPhone 4S & iPad 2 screen will turn white for some time while it downloads the Cydia package and will reboot.

Once it reboots Cydia will be added to your Home screen, that’s it. Now enjoy your newly jailbroken iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.

The developer of Cydia, Saurik has recently mentioned that to fix these problems, updates to the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package have been made. The first update Saurik pushed brought Corona 5.0.1 Untether to version 1.0-2, which fixed the launchctl error. Shortly after Saurik mentioned the 1.0-2 update, he tweeted that another update has been made to run over iOS Devices that were Jailbroken with RedSn0w to Untether their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad running the iOS 5.0.1 firmware dubbed version 1.0-3. As it appears even users who Jailbroke Untethered with RedSn0w encountered errors with launchctl not working correctly.

Corona 5.0.1 Untether Jailbreak

Step 1 – The first thing you need to do launch Cydia from your SpringBoard (homescreen).

Note: This Corona 5.0.1 Untether How To guide assumes that you are already Jailbroken tethered on the iOS 5.0.1 firmware. If you are not then we suggest using RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 or the PwnageTool 5.0.1. Additionally, ensure you do not have the Semi-Tethered Jailbreak Cydia package installed on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. If you do then you will need to uninstall the Semi-Tethered Cydia package before proceeding.

Step 2 – With Cydia up and running you will need to head on over to Cydia’s Search tab and then type in the following phrase into the search field:

Note: If any essential updates are available upon launching Cydia you will need to first install these updates before proceeding.

Step 3 – When you see Corona 5.0.1 Untether displayed on the search results click it and then install it to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Note: If you don’t see Corona 5.0.1 Untether on the search results, go into the Changes tab and refresh your sources.

Step 4 – After the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package is installed to your iOS device you will need to simply click the Return To Cydia button.

Step 5 – To ensure that this iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak worked you will need to power off your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Then simply power on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and wait for it to reboot itself. If your iOS device reboots into a usable state then this Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak worked!

Troubleshooting: If you could not reboot after installing the Corona 5.0.1 Cydia package then you will need to re-boot your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad using a Jailbreaking tool like RedSn0w. The A4 chip of the original iPad was called S5L8930X, while the A5 chip of the iPad 2 was called S5L8940X, and the A5X chip is named as S5L8945X. If we compare the labeling between A4 and A5, the jump was of 10, while it is only 5 between A5 and A5X. This would mean a half-way upgrade, meaning a chip with improved graphics but still a dual-core processor.

If this pattern is to be followed, the A6 processor would be called S5L8950X. We have news for you! We found for you evidence that Apple is working on the A6 chip. Below is an image of iOS 5.1 betas which has references to two next-generation iOS device chips: A5 (S5L8945X) and A6 (S5L8950X). Even though nobody has found the A6 (50X) chip in the code until now, they are reporting both next-generation processors entered the iOS code simultaneously. This seems to indicate that Apple has been working on both the chips.

The speculation of why the two-generation chips are in the code can be a long one. However, there are few possibilities. First, Apple may have developed both chips simultaneously to see which is better suited for the iPad 3. Secondly, the A6 processor is for the iPad 3 while the A5X chip may be for the rumored Apple TV update, the iPhone 5 or another iOS device. Thirdly, The A5X is for the iPad 2 that Apple plans to sell at a lower price while the A6 will be for the higher priced iPad 3. In the end, the A5X could turn out to be for the mini-iPad.

However, the conclusion is that the fruit company has been working on both the chips, the A5X and the A6. However, which chip the iPad 3 will feature when it arrives in March is not known. We can only wait and speculate. Don’t worry! The wait isn’t long. We have already heard the iPad 3 shipments have begun. We will keep you updated!

The A5X has a date code of “1146″ which shows that its manufacturing took place in the 46th week of last year, which means the 2nd-3rd week of November so it may turn out to be a prototype. The image of the chip also corresponds with the progression of processor parts revealed by BGR in February.

A pair of 16 GB flash memory chips along with a rectangular Apple-branded chip are also visible on the logic board. The A5X also corresponds with the power management chips like in previous iPad teardowns. However, it suggests an upgraded part as it carries a higher part number.
