I must confess one thing, I've cheating on my blog with my sewing machine. I just couldn't help it, I haven't sew for so long, that inspiration hit me like a tsunami when I finally sat down to it. I'll tell you more about my new project soon enough, as I am putting together a small collection for the ladies (I've forgotten how much fun one can have creating clothes from scratch). Now to the real deal of this post, lately I have been seriously obsessing over the IFLS Facebook page; it has become the theme of our morning chats along breakfast in our household. Not only it is leaded by a lady of science, how cool is that, but also has the wittiest humor. I invite you to give it a like, you'll learn loads and have more that one chuckle.

It is relevant to mention why I am referring to IFLS, today she posted the image of this amazing creature, the Pistol Shrimp. If you are an admirer of the outstanding life forms that habit this planet, then I think you might find this as blissful as me. This little fellow happens to be the noisiest creature in the ocean, the noise they create when reunited in colonies, can interfere even sonars. All this powerful vibrations are thanks to a mighty claw they posses, achieving elevated decibel levels when shaken. Not only that they have almost super-hero like qualities, but also look incredible; an inner shell of teal is covered by an outer sheer body. An animal with dimension and depth, sporting one of the most amazing bodies in nature.

I have always been a keen researcher of certain topics, and when it comes to certain aspects of fashion; I cannot seem to overcome my recurrent love of nature. When I began researching about the PVC trend, I thought for a moment I was drifting from my theory; nature gives us an extraordinary palette of infinite combinations as well as an exquisit reference library. Colour combination, textures, finishes, you name it, nature's got it. That is why the Pistol Shrimp seemed so relevant today, it's sheer composition makes it the ideal referent for the PVC trend, in my eye, it reunites all the marks to be hit when doing the transparent look plus a bit of colour. As I once said before, when you are in doubt about sporting a certain look; consult your nearest biology book. You can/will never go wrong when following nature's lead.

Leading man Hedi Slimane had decided to turn the tables around the french house Saint Laurent, as part of a massive rejuvenation plan that the brand has been involved in for quite some time now. It began with a change of name (from Yves Saint Laurent to Saint Laurent), along a nice side dish of controversy. To be followed by two of the most controversial faces in Rock n Roll; Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love, are the new faces of Saint Laurent. I must confess I quite like the two of them as musicians, and I feel very intrigued about this new move Hedi has made; making so many people uncomfortable, like selfish children that don't want to share their precious toys, they claim her attitude will bring the house down. Anyway to me it felt refreshing and unpredictable, like a kick in the face to those who claim fashion is reseved only to some of certain circles. You go Hedi!

Decoding the Un-Known

Some things to me are mysteries, like how the fashion industry insists on holding on to the good old known, like a life safer in the middle of an Atlantic storm. The numbers don't lie (check out Burberry's latest news), they remain stuck in time and retrograde ideas, it feeds a world that can only be sustained thanks to the perpetual work of other worlds. Constant motion of wheels of a machine that begins to rust and decay, entropy; an undeniable truth. I am not interested in solving this mistery, I believe somehow it will end up swallowing me whole into the abysm; the abysm of boredom and tradition, where innovation is perceived as a rebellious teenager that needs correction.

But I have always been a rebel, the bug bit me long ago, unsettling my spirit and my mind; giving me wings to fly away into the unknown. In my journey to find new aesthetics, I have come across some amazing talent; revolutionaries like me. This is how I came to know Anne Sofie Madsen, although we haven't physically met, which is my master plan for a near future; her vision of fashion is breath of fresh air, a glimpse into the future of fashion and very much it's present as well. Copenhagen Fashion Week has been relented to a secondary stage, in the shadow of major fashion capitals, CFW grows and moves at a steady pace.

Born, raised and graduated in Denmark, Anne Sofie Madsen has sculptured her career in fashion along some of the most prolific designers of our time; trained by John Galliano himself, continuing in London to polish her skills in Alexander McQueen as a Junior Designer. The best can only result in the best, she has created a vision of her own; unique creations developed under the highest of standards. Constant experimentation is key to innovation, is pretty much like the scientific method, test and error to achieve the ideal result.

The unknown seems promising, a infinite source of inspiration; where the platform to evolve happens to be the known. I was surprised to learn that Madsen has only presented two runway shows as a solo designer, that her brand is so relatively new to the industry. Somehow I perceived wisdom in her work, longevity in her technique and the vision of a true futurist; time and space seem relative to her vision.

Once again I feel optimistic about the future of fashion, the way the old gets reinterpret into the new; the cycle begins again, death and life of ideals, aesthetics and conceptions. With no further words to be written from my end, I leave you to admire her world, her undeniable talent and surely you'll end up craving her pieces as much as I do.

No Animal Testing!

I decided to write this post due a number of factors that have been accumulating on my back, also because it was impossible to silence my tree hugger nature loving hippy conscience; yes I'm that kind of girl who loves fashion but can't stand it's shallow side, a walking contradiction some may say. I like to think of myself as a complex individual, capable of detaching from social conventions, in order to absorb what truly makes me happy; depuration all sorts of crap from true beauty and happiness.

To me, nature is pure and beautiful; the true essence of life and it's meaning. Cycles that bring life and death, a constant change of energy and atoms. Having laid my cards on the table, I think I'll go straight to the point. This morning my mother in law send me an invite to force Facebook to remove Animal Torture Page, my trigger to ignite in rage; a rage that I've been contenting for a while. Animal cruelty and Animal Testing are both inmoral in my book, unethical by any standard as well; I wonder who decided to impose this horrible duty on animals.

One cannot help to find possible solutions to this atrocity, we live in the era of technology; if we brag so much about creating technology, how is it possible that we continue to use animals to resemble reactions to medications. Shouldn't we be able to create a new resource for medical testing? In my opinion we should, this resource can only be a hybrid. A combination of machine and biological compounds, design and created to specific applications; a cyborg that mimics the human body, that measures and collect data. Such resource could be modified according to the needs of the research. I applaud the initiative taken by the EU, here is more info on the latest news.

Perhaps I have read Asimov too much, I don't really care if that the case; at least my mind is practicing the exercise of thinking outside the box, of finding creative sustainable solutions to this problem. My Aristotelian Ethic tells me this is wrong, and we all know Aristoteles shouldn't be silent by any means.

If robots are an undeniable reality in the near future, why is society still reluctant about their inclusion to our reality. Are we dealing with double moral standards here? Humans not being ready to deal with robots that look like humans, but can easily handle Animal Cruelty. Well not me! And I hope not you either. This is my manifesto, as I respectfully quote the words of Freddie:
