As you probably noticed, I really wasn't feeling this blog anymore. I felt that to restart blog writing I would have to do it somewhere else. So this is the last post you'll be seeing here on Black Sheep, but the good news you'll be able to see me now on Mint tea and peonies! These are some of the beauty bits I am loving for the past few weeks. Most of these items sum up summer for me, like the Daisy Sunshine perfume, The Body Shop's honey bronzer and the Bourjois creme blush in Nude Velvet. I've been using them probably every day!

The Chanel Rouge Coco in Cambon and the Soap and Glory Glow all out highlighter do not feature on my everyday make up but oh how I do love them! The highlighter is my favourite one ever, pinky toned and shimery without being glittery an so finally milled... Oh, just writing about it makes me want to go to my bedroom and put some on right now!
The No 7 eyelash curler, Real Techniques expert face brush and the Dove Hair Therapy Nourishing leave in conditioner have been used every. single. day.

I am in a minimal mood lately and this t-shirt I got from H&M has been my favourite. There is just something so simple and appealing about a plain grey t-shirt, love it!

My favourite necklace of the moment is this silver and gold daisy pendent I got from Argos! I couldn't believe in what I found when browsing their website during the sale in July and of course it was only available in store with only one left at the Kensington High Street store. Of course I reserved it straight away and went to pick it up the same day! On the plus side, you would never believe on how such a bargain this was, as it was in the sale.

Last but not least is this Chocolate Bar! I am totally addicted to this! The name says it all: dairy milk chocolate with jelly, candy shells and popping sugar! Yum yum yum!

The day after

Yesterday was my birthday. Now I've got to an age that I don't really get so excited about as I did as a kid. Let's just say that being closer to 30 is not so fun as being closer to 20.

Well, as it was my birthday I though I would treat myself to a new lippy I was drooling over, the Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Bang, and so I did. I also fell in love with this plain grey t-shirt and I also got it. So, like a little kid, I had to put on both today! The lipstick is an absolutely gorgeous intense orangey red that feels super comfortable and hydrating on the lips and lasted for ages on me (it only slightly came off while I was eating lunch!). I am one happy lady with my bright lipstick and plain grey t-shirt let me tell you!

On another note, I'm not going to apologize for not writing on here for so long (again), but here I am writing again, hooray! For those still around, thank you :)

This look really brings up great childhood memories. Whenever the weather started to get warmer in Portugal, usually March/April, the first thing my mum would have me doing was loosing the tights! Skirts, dresses or shorts would then be worn with socks from then on, even if I had to sport long sleeves and jackets. Maybe that is why I can bear cold legs when I can't do it with my arms or trunk! Anyway, this outfit, now that I see it photographed, brings up such a retro childish vibe, I mean, polkadot blouse, pinafore, mint shimmery lurex socks and sneakers? I feel like I am 5 again, and I love it!

PS: In the UK this is a May outfit, I could never have endured the coldest March I ever experienced wearing this! Though at the moment it is back to cold and grey over here...

Lippies

Only very recently I became "into" make-up. When I was a teenager all I would wear was mascara and line my waterline with black khol, usually reserved for nights out; during uni I became a fan of a red lip, gradually liking the darker/brighter the better. But after moving country, as I don't get much sun in London, I started buying more and better make up and skin care, as my skin is my normal fair complexion and I don't tan that much anymore. My skin also changed characteristics as it is much more dehydrated and less oily than it was back at home. Now I must admit I reached the slight obsession point of getting things than I never thought of reaching for and more frequently than ever.

But I am here to talk about my precursor in beauty/make up obsession, lip products. Give me a bright lip and I can go with a bare face (ok, maybe a little bit of concealer under eye, I am a nurse after all and there is a lot of sleep deprivation going on). I use something on my lips everyday! For work I stick to tinted lip balms, on an everyday basis I change between the same lip balms/butter to something stronger, depending on my mood or what I'll be doing that day/night.

You will note my preference for red lip colours. I use a range from orangey hues to cherry reds, but I cannot hide my preference for red, red red! At the moment I am personally still a no-no to true pink hues. But here are my favourite lip products...

The Body Shop Born Lippy lip balms, in Plum and Pomegranate - I use these for work all the time! I can use them to go out of the house like grocery shopping as I like hydration with a little bit of colour. I reserve colourless lip balms for when I am at home or overnight. I got the red one (pomegranate scent, hmmm!) first and it is almost finishing, but when I went to Belgium I forgot to take it with me and therefore popped into a Body Shop store to get the purple one (plum scented). Now neither give me a bright red or plum colour, they just seem to accentuate my own lip colour with a more redish/orangey tint (pomegranate, on the right) or a more deep red colour (plum, on the left), while hydrating my lips, which is perfect for work!

Korres Mandarin Lip Butter Stick SPF 15, in Rose - So this is my favourite lip balm/butter! It is so moisturizing and gives such a beautiful hint of colour to my lips! I had heard of the Korres lip butters before, but having to apply it with my fingers from the pot is something I really do not like. So when I found this one on a stick I couldn't wait to try it, and I am damn glad I did! It is, like I said, moisturizing, the colour lasts long, it has SPF, it's super easy to apply and smells wonderfully! I use this to work sometimes, too. But mostly on an everyday basis. It is really one of my favourites ever!

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, in Romantic and Rendezvous - These are amazing! They're like the drugstore version of the Clinique chubby sticks, but I like these much more! If you want long lasting colour and hydration these are for you. The easiest to apply, like a crayon, and you will not need to touch up for hours and hours. Even though stains usually dry my lips, these don't, so I am pretty happy with them!

Revlon Lip Butters in Candy Apple, Wild Watermelon, Tutti Frutti and Juicy Papaya - Ok, so these are probably my favourite lip products, maybe together with the above mentioned lip stains (Revlon rulling here!). I have had Candy Apple and Tutti Frutti since they came out, I think last year (?), and now Revlon released some new colours and I got Wild Watermellon and Juicy Papaya quite recently. I love all of them, but, predictably Candy Apple (true red) and Wild Watermelon (more of a cherry red on my lips) are my favourite. I think Wild Watermellon will be my most used one this Spring and Summer, but I must give a shout out to Tutti Frutti, the one that got me into orange tones. I thought Juicy Papaya would be similar to Tutti Frutti but maybe lighter, though it is a completely different colour, almost a peachy nude, which I thought I would hate when I first tried it at home, but no, I actually like it. I think I was using it in my last post. So these give me a shiny colour and hydrate lips well, while they last, which is not much when compared to the lip stains. Still, for what they are, I love them!

MAC Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Cherries in The Snow - So, I use these when I am feeling bolder. Ruby Woo from MAC is a gorgeous matte red, which I love, but it is quite hard wearing and a bit drying, like all matte lippies I think. It definitely needs a good dose of lip balm before applying. Cherries in The Snow is a venture in the world of pinkish tones for me, but it is still dark enough for me to like. It is a dark cherry on the lips (I am wearing it here!) and will soon appear on an outfit post here on the blog. Both these colours feel more comfortable being used at night time, but I will use them during the day, again, depending on what I will be doing. I love both as well!

So these are my current favourite lip products, which are yours? Do you use any of these? I think I will try MAC's Bric-O-La next ;)

Enjoying the first Sun

About two weeks ago came the first day of bare legging. It was just before I got sick with a nasty flu so I am glad I got to enjoy the sun, eating out in a garden (the BBC gardens in White City, very close to my house) and just enjoy a warm breeze on my skin. I decided to bring my gingham dress and mint cardi out for the first time this year, some of my favourite springwear, together with my go to Spring/Summer shoes, plimsoles, in this occasion it was a pair of red Keds!

What do you do when the first sunny Spring day arrives?

Day to Night look

I thought of showing a day to night look. Same outfit, minimal changes in outerwear, shoes and make up and you get ready from running errands to dinner out.

Day look:

Navy blue dress, khaki jacket and converse trainers. On the make up I used a pale rose blush (Rosewood from Maybelline ) and a sheer lipstick (Revlon Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya). You could put some mascara but I don't usually do during the day as I have long black lashes naturally.

Night look:

Change shoes to a pair of black leather shoes, and jacket to a black leather bomber. Add a necklace.

On the make up add a little bronzer, I used it for contouring though ( Dream Terra Sun from Maybelline); Champagne eyeshadow in the inner corners of the eyes (from MUA), Blush from Sleek (Blush by Three pallete in Lace, can't remember the one I used but I think it was the one from the right) and a deeper long lasting lipstick (Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic - My favourite!). Finish off with some black mascara and you're done!

Maastricht

Hooray, we finally reached the end of the travelling March posts! (after 2 months, pretty good for a lazy blogger like me, huh?) Anyway our last stop was Maastricht, very close to Hasselt by bus and had an airport with flights to London. I am not going to talk about said airport, apart from saying that it shouldn't even be called an airport, or things will get dirty here.

After spending a week in Belgium, Maastricht was actually a breath of fresh air. Yes, the language may be the same as in Flanders, and there are a lot of bikes. But even I, who could not get a word of Dutch, could tell the difference of accents. The culture is quite different and, what I found the most, the people look very very different from Belgium. And there are even more bikes there that in Belgium, if I ever thought that that was possible!
Anyway, if you want to know more about Maastricht go here or here as my day there was quite grey and the pictures don't show how pretty the city can be. My favourite place? This bookshop inside an old church!

Lovely Leuven

Sooooo, I also visited Leuven when I was in Belgium. It is the city where Stella Artois is brewed and I had no idea of this until I was cooking something with it the other day. Stella is by far my favourite ale in the UK, not that I have much knowledge about ales, but alas, lets talk about Leuven!

Leuven wasn't on my travelling plans but at the last minute we decided that going to Cologne (in Germany) would be too expensive and my boyfriend was tired so me and my sister hopped on the train to Leuven. I am glad we did! It is another beautiful Flemish city. And I found it small but quite lovely. Here are ~~some~~ a lot of pictures that me and my sister took walking around Leuven. I loved the Grote Markt the most, the building of the Stadhuis is absolutely stunning and overall I think this was my favourite "Grote Markt" of all the ones I visited in Belgium. Here are also some bonus pictures of my face with no make up on (shock, horror!) and the cheap but yummy jelly beans we munched on. We even found a Portuguese restaurant over there!

This is my second last post from my March travels (oof), tomorrow will follow the only one from the Netherlands! Hope you enjoyed seeing Belgium here as I enjoyed being there (though the one thing I do not miss is how cold it was there!).

How to make citrus infused water

Lemon water, or citrus water (which I prefer) is a really nice Spring/Summer drink and super easy to make. Here's how I make it!

You will need one orange, one lemon, one lime and a bit of fresh mint leaves. And water, of course!

After washing all the fruits slice them up. Rinse your bunch of mint as well.

Voila! Then I get rid of the ends.

Put your sliced fruit in a freezer bag and put it in the freezer for a few hours.
Instead of doing this you can use them straight away and just mix ice onto the water, but as I live in a small flat and my freezer is tiny I prefer having 2 in 1 icy fruit slices.

Pick your mint leaves and reserve in the fridge.

Once frozen put the sliced fruit in a jug.

Pour in some water! (I used tap filtered water.)

Pop in the mint leaves and give it a stir. Let the water soak up the flavours for a bit and...

Voila! Enjoy your drink!

Also, bear in mind that this is not a juice, it is just water infused with flavours of citrus and mint. It won't be sweet either. Just giving you some heads up if you decide to make this as my boyfriend was disappointed with the lack of sweetness, haha! I do love it though!

The first Spring outfit

I had the idea of wearing all these items together since this package came in the mail. First it was too cold and gloomy to wear what I ordered and then I ended up returning the pinafore and getting a bigger size (pinafores are not supposed to be tight, am I right?).

Anyway, Spring has finally reached London, after a long time of waiting for her! So today I had to go out and about and decided to bring my yellow parka, navy pinafore dress, converse and bunting necklace along. I think this is all I want to wear this spring!

Walking around Hasselt

My sister is currently studying abroad in Hasselt, Belgium. That was one of the reasons it made us go there (and also my friend Mariana is currently living in Brussels!). Of course we had to visit the city she is at, although it is not in the tourist guides, we had our own (sort of ) guide! Hi, sis!

Hasselt is a relatively new town in Flanders, it looks more recent and street art is a big thing over there. I enjoyed looking around nooks and corners and finding unexpected graffiti.. Hasselt also has the best coffee shop I have ever been to: Coffee Café, where I had the most delicious hot chocolate of my life! I leave you with ~~some~~ lots of pictures!

Antwerp, Antwerpen, Anvers

One of my favourite places in Belgium was definitely Antwerp. I don't know if everyone thinks the same but I found Belgian cities (in Flanders, at least) to be very similar, but Antwerp has a more European city type of vibe going on, if that makes any sense... You can tell fashion is a big thing over there and I really enjoyed walking around the place, even with my backpack weighing on all the time.

This post comes quite later than I had planned (I still have a few places to show from that trip!), but I have been lazy. It seems watching series (Game of Thrones & Mad Men, so glad you're back!!) and browsing make up things (including reading Essie Button on and on - thanks Sofia!) is taking over most of my free time! But lets show a bit of my wandering around Antwerp!

Me, my sister and some heavy snow. It was sunny, though!

Walking around in the centre and the port. We wandered through a lot of places that didn't get pictured but I loved the "hipster" part of town too! Also we checked this area which is like a few streets where you can shop for ladies (I suppose a bit like the red light district in Amsterdam). I found that a bit disgusting to say the truth. I think I have some pictures in my phone though!

Before heading back to the train station I had to go get some of the best chocolate I have ever had from The Chocolate Line. My friend Dani got me some last year from there and ever since that I knew I had to go to that place myself. I went on the one in Brugge but it was so small and too crowded that I ended up walking out empty handed. The Antwerp one did not disappoint though! I am only sad the bars I brought home to London are all gone now...

And last, but certainly not least, Antwerp's Central Station! The prettiest one I have ever been and all I could think of when I was there was this.

New in from Asos

Last week I received a much awaited package from Asos in the mail.

All of this came in it.

The most perfect yellow parka and a navy blue pinafore dress (the same shape as this one)

And a postcard pouch, a bunting necklace, a lip stain pen in a deep red colour, a lip butter from Korres and a pretty pocket mirror.

And of course I could not wait to put on my new jacket, even if it is impossible to wear it outside for now (yes, still managing only winter coats...)

PS: I was naughty and ordered again from ASOS (it arrived today) but it was only a pair of Converse shoes that I also cannot wear due to the terrible weather... Yes, it snowed again today! Why, oh why is Spring taking so long to come?

Easter traditions

When I was little most Easters would be spent at my grandparent's house in the Portuguese countryside. We would participate in festivities and my mum would buy me and my sister new clothes to wear on Easter Sunday, every single year. Sometimes way before it was time we would have our new Easter clothes already, and patiently wait till Easter Sunday to wear them (I have always loved clothes...). Now, it is my own tradition to wear at least one new thing on Easter, mostly as a tribute to my mum.

So today I am wearing new floral trousers from Uniqlo x Celia Birthwell, hoping I can wear them with plimsolls and blouses very soon, instead of wool jumpers and ankle boots, like today.

Me and the boyfriend are having a quiet Easter at home, stuffing ourselves with chocolates. What about you?

Rae Morris at the Village Underground

Last Wednesday me and my boyfriend hopped on the tube to East London, to the Village Underground, to see Rae Morris performing. I was introduced to her while she supported Noah and the Whale's concert last year in the Royal Albert Hall. We had no idea who this young woman from Blackpool was, she seemed sweet and shy, but when she opened her mouth and started singing in the Royal Albert Hall (best acoustic ever!) I was sold. Not only her voice is great but her tunes are too. So when I heard she was coming to London I bought tickets. It was also my first time at Village Underground, and despite it being freezing inside (everyone kept their coats and hats on) it is a lovely venue. I also enjoyed listening to her supporting guest, James Bay.
Oh and by the way, the flyer and her website are made with drawings by Rae!

Gent in the middle of a snowstorm

Now it's time to show Gent (or Ghent, in English). We went there on the day it started snowing and loved the city. It was just too cold, so we actually strolled quite quickly, stopping for a few hours first at McDonalds and then Starbucks (yeah, glamorous I know...), to keep ourselves warm. Despite freezing myself off I really enjoyed Gent. It was similar to Brugge with its canals and Medieval vibes, but somehow more modern. It is such a stunning city, full of history and definitely worth visiting. Despite the snow, or even more with it, I don't know..., it still looked lovely.

Two outfits

Before I traveled to Belgium I got my boyfriend to shot these two outfits in our living room, but with the hassle to prepare luggage and stuff for the trip I completely forgot to post them. So here they are!
This pinafore and this skirt are things only wearable in winter and I really like them but I won't be sad to let them go and give spring clothes a chance. Hurry up Spring!

I got the clothes yesterday and the wallet and bag today. Even though it is snowing outside I think these items just scream spring. At least they keep me hoping for it to come... Soon, please!

One day in Brugge

On our first Saturday in Belgium me and my boyfriend hopped on a double deck train to Brugge and met my sister in it.

We had a look on our map to decide what way to take from the train station.

We started to walk along one of the many canals, enjoying the beautiful sightings. We found a heart drawn on the floor and shot our Dr Martens with it. We also found a bike immortalized on the ground.

We wandered throught some tiny alleys and in large streets, buying chocolate along the way to the main square.

We finally reached the Grote Markt and was stunned with the beauty of the buildings, it looked like we had gonne back some time. I loved the bicycles casually parked in the main square with no locks, if I could do that here I would definitely get a bike for me, but even with locks bikes get stolen in London...

Then we headed off to a restaurant to have lunch. Of course chips accompanied all main courses...

With our full tummys we climbed more than 300 steps to the Belfort and got to see stunning views. Here's a picture of the Grote Markt through some griddles.

Then we wandered through the town a bit more, eating chocolates, checking the chocolateries and the cannals.

Then we walked by another canal back to the train station and waited for the next train in Starbucks. At least in Belgium they wrote my name properly, thing that does not happen in the UK!

I really enjoyed all Belgium places I visited, but Brugge was my favourite of all. It is such a picturesque place, romantic and almost frozen in the medieval times. I definitely recommend a visit if you can stop by!

Brussels, Brussel, Bruxelles

So I am back from my travels and I decided to dedicate one post to each place I visited the past week. Let's start with Brussels! I wandered through the city for two days, the first after arriving in the Eurostar, and then two days later after my sister joined us. Here are some bits of what I saw!

Tintin was all over the place, wouldn't he be from Belgium! Here greeting us on our arrival from the Eurostar

We went straight ahead to the centre, trying to find the main square: Grote Markt or Grand Place.

We wandered around in the area and found some great street art and the famous little boy peeing, the Manneken-Pis.

Then we were too tired from the lack of sleep of the previous night and from the wandering with our backpacks on. We went back to the Grand Place/Grote Markt and just sat there while waiting for my friend Mariana to get off work to meet her at her house and get some rest.

Then on Sunday - our third day in Belgium - we went back to exploring Brussels, now with my sister, who is studying in Hasselt for 3 months!

We basically went to the same places me and my boyfriend had been on Friday but found them faster, since we did not have to wander and try to decipher the map. Here the Manneken-Pis statue was already dressed in a different outfit (there's even a museum dedicated to the little mr's outfits!).

We then moved on to trying to find the museum of comics - Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinée, a bit expensive - considering that I am used to most museums being free in London, €8 per person seemed a lot, but worth it. Tintin everywhere! The only not so good bit was that some of the descriptions of the museum were only in French and Dutch, only the main descriptions were in English. I had to force myself to try and remember my French classes at school.

Then we got on the metro in Brussels Central station to go see the Atomium.

On the way out from the station to the Atomium we could'nt resist taking some silly pictures.

... and then some typical touristy ones. My sister's name is Claudia, hence her lying on the C. I am just on the L because it was next to it.

Brussels was a nice place to visit! I had low expectations since most of the people I spoke to about visiting it said that they didn't like the city at all. I don't really understand why... Yes it is small, when you compare it to Paris or London. And people may expect it to be bigger and livelier, since it is the capital of Europe, but despite all that I really enjoyed the contrast between the old and the new, especially when found together (see picture number 1 of this post!). I don't care what people say, I like Brussels!

Starships and name necklaces

About half of this outfit is my sisters fault. The necklace was her Christmas gift for me - the best thing when people get my name wrong, ie.: no, my name is not Rachel or Racquel (why the heck would you need to put a c before the q? I don't know). The galaxy jeans I bought after she bought a pair for herself, as I am addicted to this print. And the rocket brooch, bought at Topshop while I was browsing things with her. I just thought that it would be a nice addition to my brooch collection and to make some company to my other mirrored brooch, the flamingo.
It was indeed, with an outfit very similar to this - galaxy print in a jumper form that time - that my rocket got its own street style shot for ES Magazine, in Spitalfields Market.
