I understand that Sam Bradford is the #1 pick in the NFL draft.  I understand that he deserves #1 draft money. I understand that the Rams feel the need to pay #1 draft pick money.  What I don’t understand is why the Rams picked such a ridiculous amount of money to give to an unproven player.  The St. Louis Rams and QB Sam Bradford came to terms on a deal where Bradford will get a potential $76 million with $50 million guaranteed over six years.  That makes him the highest rookie ever. The Rams are getting a pretty good reputation of ruining good quarterbacks with their shaky offensive line.  Marc Bulger didn’t get his shoulder injury by throwing 100 passes a game, the line couldn’t keep him upright.

So with a shaky offensive line and a quarterback that has already had a serious shoulder injury, the Rams have decided to make Sam Bradford ultra rich whether he pans out or not. #1 quarterbacks are a high risk/high reward, and lately the reward side hasn’t panned out for many of the teams.

Here is the last #1 drafted quarterbacks in the last 10 years:

Excluding Bradford, four of these picks were duds(Vick, Russell, Carr, Smith) and I will say Palmer is on the fence, but I’ll give him a pass. So out of the past ten years a #1 drafted quarterback, only one has a Superbowl ring, or even been to a Conference Championship game. In a perfect situation,  the odds would be stacked against a rookie quarterback. Now St. Louis and Bradford have the added pressure of  living up to this humongous contract.

I know there are some serious roadblocks between the Player’s Association and owners, but there is one thing that shouldn’t be a problem.  There has to be a rookie salary cap in the next collective bargaining agreement.  This is something that has spiraled out of control, and without that salary cap cannot be reigned in.

Yes, we have a Miami story not involving the South Beach NWO. Its being reported this morning by the Sun Sentinel that Pat White could be missing significant time. At the very least he is missing training camp. Why? Reason is rather troubling.

“According to a league source, the Dolphins backup quarterback could miss the entire regular season with a non-football related issue that is described as serious.”

This is surprising because last we heard he was in best shape of his life.

In any case, what does it mean when we hear non-football related issue or personal issue? What comes to mind is the case of Shawn Andrews. Personal issues were a bout with depression. Mix that with a few injuries and it lead to his departure from league. Another case that comes to mind when mentioning “personal reasons” is when Rafer Alston went M.I.A. on the Miami Heat. It ended up that the personal reasons were a family member in trouble and he needed to be by them. Of course there is the infamous Vince Young incident a few years back where we became acquainted with the phrases “personal issues/reasons.” What we could glean from these cases is that personal reasons/issues are hardly good. Breaking News: Literally as I was writing this piece reports are flying in that Pat White is indeed coming to practice . So the issues arent as serious as they seemed. Goes to show you, one minute you hear one thing, the next another. Pat White needs to explain what is going on. Will Manso says it best: there is something fishy going on.

I have a theory though, maybe Dolphins are looking to make some headlines over the South Beach NWO so that people remember they exist. What better way than a mysterious training camp story. #shrug

PS, What are the chances this hit might have something to do with craziness? Probably none, just want to show it again.

Fantasy football is right around the corner.  For those who don’t think they can win their league blindfolded(side eyes Rob), I plan to help all fantasy football leaguers  make the best choices with the best information.  What can I say, I love to help.  A few things to note, this list doesn’t include players serving suspensions issued by commissioner Roger Goodell(i.e. Ben Rothelisberger, Vincent Jackson). It also doesn’t include quarterbacks that can’t decided whether or not if they want to re-retire….again(honestly, quarterback shouldn’t be plural).   Also, PUP doesn’t mean injuries that keep them from playing during the season, but they are injuries that could come back during the season, worth keeping an eye on.  IR on the other hand, means they’re screwed for the season and stay away from them.

The New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens have the most players on the list. I can only wonder if the Saints injuries come from partying in the French Quarter(I keed, I keed). Most notable for the Saints is WR Marques Colston and DB Darren Sharper(and not just because he’s cute).  For the Ravens, DB Ed Reed(who wants a new contract as well).  I’m quite surprised the New England Patriots didn’t list all their starters on the PUP, we know they like to get ‘creative’.

There is a reason why no one really wants to pick a quarterback 1st in the draft.

Everything is great if he turns out to be Peyton Manning, but if he turns out to be JaMarcus Russell you are screwed for a very long time.

It doesn’t seem like a long time, but it has been almost a decade since the Greatest Show of Turf was entertaining the masses in STL, but after several awful years including a dreadful 1-15 season in 2009 the Rams have pinned their hopes on Sam Bradford and his reconstructed shoulder.

Bradford’s contract is 6 years, 76 million with 50 of that guaranteed and it can max out at 86 million if Bradford hits some escalators.

Just so we are clear regardless of what happens from tomorrow on Bradford will get 50 million dollar deposited in his account.

50 million dollars and he never has taken a snap.

Even Tim Tebow is like:

Good work if you can get it and for the Rams sake they better hope their 50 million dollar man doesn’t like to Sip the Sizzurp.

I will be perfectly honest with you I haven’t watched one minute of Chad Ochocinco’s Ultimate Catch on VH1.

I am sure it is an interesting show, but there is only so much “reality tv” I can take.  It is one thing to know something is 80% fake, but when it is 99.9999999% fake I much rather watch Forensic Files.

It appears that one of Chad’s girls Ericka has a bit of a past as a nude model (shocking I know).

PS- She isn’t very attractive are all the girls on Chad’s show like this?  Glad I didn’t watch.

Literally five mintues after I posted the Trina “admiring” Dez Bryant story, I started to hear word that he hurt his ankle at practice.

First report, it was nothing.

Second report, he had to be helped off the field.

Third report, minor sprain 2-3 weeks.

But the last report is from the big boss himself Jerry Jones says it is a bit more serious than first thought and he could be out for 4-6 weeks.

Ankles are funny and if it is a high ankle sprain as I suspect he will be dealing with it for the entire year because they heal very slow.

Also take into account he will have no training camp, so he will never develop any chemistry with Tony Romo and the rest of the offense. I am not saying his rookie season will be a waste, but if the Cowboys were expecting him to be dominating presence from game one that will be highly unlikely now. The best they can hope for is around mid season he rounds into form and pray he doesn’t have any setbacks.

You maybe asking yourself. What do I mean with causalities?  No, the South Beach NWO didn’t kill anyone. That would be the story of our lifetime if a professional athlete gang went around killing people. But what went down today they might have well have well killed people.

As we all know, when Lebron’s decision went down most of us became Lebron/Heat haters. The other people, Miami Heat fans and bandwagoners rejoiced clamoring their love for Heat. They showed their admiration by upon hearing rumors that Lebron was definitely coming to South Beach going into season ticket buying frenzy. Heat ticket servers were frozen and phone lines jammed. Eventually they sold out of all season tickets. Now we get into situation today.

The Miami Herald is reporting that the staff of about 30 in charge of selling season tickets have been terminated. Reason why? In a statement released by Heat they say: becuase

“…we no longer require a season ticket sales team to sell tickets.”

And to not appear cold they left workers with this statement.

“While the decision to release part of our sales force was a difficult one, we greatly appreciate their contributions to the company,” the statement continued. “We have also hired a placement service to assist those individuals find new employment.”

It is what is. It’s part of the business whether at Wall Street or Team Office. If you are expendable boss in business move will terminate you to save some money. This is the case here. One terminated person understands

“They let us go because there was really nothing left to do anymore,”

Not going to pretend to know the workers financial situations, hell, they very well could be better off than all of us. It still must hurt especially in this economy. To be fair to Miami Heat, the Knicks sold out season tickets and Bulls were on their way last checked based on Lebron & Friends speculation. Assuming organizations follow the save money at all cost business model, those organization could downsize their offices for same reason. As for Lebron & friends it shows you how a single “decision” could affect so many people. It was bad for all these workers but certainly good for local business owners and hotels. Stay tuned for more, because you know there will be more stories….

Now to leave something you with something to contemplate. According to ESPN’s NBA attendance data from last year, The Miami Heat where ranked 15th of 30 NBA teams in attendance. That is slightly behind Bosh’s Raptors at 14, GS Warriors at 11, Pistons at 8, and NY Knicks at 5. You know what those teams mentioned also have in common? No Playoffs! How does a decent Heat team who went to playoffs and anchored by a top 5 NBA player in Wade manage to fall behind in attendance to those teams. Obviously this year they will be number 1 in attendance at home and the road. Wouldn’t be surprised if they set a attendance record. Just just keep in mind. What happened to the “Heat fans” last year.

PS, you maybe asking yourself why is Carlos Arroyo in the background. I have no idea why Arroyo is pictured in back. Maybe becuase today is his birthday and want to do something special for him or the artist needs a token Latino in pic to justify writing Spanish even though only “el” is technically only Spanish word. #kanyeshrug

The Lorenzen Wright murder is a very tragic case and it has a lot of unusual circumstances.  One of the weird aspects of the case was that Wright’s ex-wife Sherra Robinson Wright told police that three armed man came to her home looking for Wright.  Here are the details about that:

Prior to a family member filing a missing persons report, three strangers visited Lorenzen’s ex-wife, Sherra Robinson Wright, at her home. Sherra said the men had guns tucked into their waistbands. Supposedly the three men asked if her ex-husband might be home visiting his six children.

According to the report, Sherra rushed to her divorce attorney to discuss her concerns about the safety of her children, herself and her ex-husband, after the incident.

Amazingly even though armed gunmen came to her home she didn’t go to the police, she went to her divorce attorney.

I don’t know about you but if men with guns came to my house where my children lived looking for my significant other my first phone call would be to 911 not a divorce attorney.

I am being told now by a person close to the investigation that Miss Wright herself is now considered a possible suspect in the case and that she is currently being questioned by police.

No word on exactly what information the police are trying to get out of Miss Wright, if she will be charged or booked for any crime.  Just that she is a person of interest in the case.

As you know I take reporting things like this very seriously, so I am currently trying to track down more information, but what I do know at the very least is the Memphis PD do see Miss Wright as a person of interest in the case and that she may have more information than she is letting on about what happened to her ex husband.

We will be monitoring the situation and when more information becomes available we will report it here first.

Information is coming in that she could possibly be booked on a charge, but that has not been confirmed.

Channel 3  NBC in Jackson, MS is now confirming the story:

Just before 1:00 p.m. Friday, two Memphis police investigators, including Sergeant Kevin Lundy, along with a uniformed officer, arrived at Herb Wright’s home.

Wright, who has been in a wheelchair since gunfire severed his spinal chord in 1983, came outside to greet officers.  After a brief conversation, Wright let the officers into his home. The patrolman went in first, followed by the two investigators.

Within minutes, the investigators emerged. With them was a woman – a relative of Wright’s, we’re told – wearing a purple top and black pants.

Without handcuffs, the woman was placed in an unmarked police car and taken in for questioning.  Her role in the investigation is unclear.

Also Friday, investigators examined surveillance video from businesses surrounding the barber shop Wright frequented, amid conflicting stories about whether Wright was there the day he died.

We have confirmed it was indeed Miss Wright who was taken by police from the home we are currently waiting to see if she is charged with anything or if she is let go.

Summer is the time for vacations.  Most people pack up their family and head to some great vacation spot. Or, if you’re San Francisco 49er Vernon Davis and Buffalo Bills Aaron Maybin, you pack up a group of strippers and head to Puerto Rico.  “They flew a group of strippers from the DC area down to party with them,” the source told RadarOnline.com.

Davis and Maybin took the vacation earlier this month.  It sounds and looks like a good time was had by all. “There were major parties going on in the house, with lots of vodka drinks flowing.” the source stated. From my understanding, ‘partying’ in stripper world varies a little from Webster’s definition. I have a feeling that they got to know one another like Adam knew Eve, if you catch my drift.

Now some pictures of the vacation have surfaced. This isn’t the first time these types of parties have taken place with NFL players and we know it won’t be the last.   We all remember the infamous party boat on Lake Minnetonka.  One  of these days athletes will learn, if you don’t want your business on the internet for the entire world to see, STAY AWAY FROM CELL PHONE CAMERAS.

This event should’ve taken place sans cell phones.  Check them at the door and get a ticket, like coat check. Cell phone cameras should be on the topic of the next rookie symposium.
