Despite the massive production on Do You Like Rock Music? and its generally more accessible feel - and all the talk of their insane live antics - they're still where they've always been (although they've finally broken out of their 4th from top of the bill on sunday night Radio 1 tent lineup at Reading Festival).

Anyway, live antics have included the following; bear bashing, log throwing, flight case skating, guitar swinging, parade through the crowd with a field drum, swan diving off PAs, climbing around venue balconies, getting the Wurzels to support you and then being the opening act.

Although, i doubt any of that happened during the following session. 6 Music - January of this year. When Brakes were in session on the show a couple of years back, Eamon rang up Noble (i think) live on air to get them to come in (i've got that Brakes session somewhere too). So they did. Nice.

British Sea Power - Atom (live on 6 Music)
British Sea Power - Down On The Ground (live on 6 Music)
British Sea Power - Canvey Island (live on 6 Music)
British Sea Power - True Adventures (live on 6 Music)

update

5 Months and still no word?

Yeah, sorry about that. Firsly, Blur were the first band I ever really loved (I bought Parklife on cassette sometime in 1995) and it was also the first time i'd ever been to a 'proper' festival. In a day which saw Beck telling his crowd to look at the sky and BRMC creating dust clouds in the august heat, Damon Albarn fronting the nine-piece incarnation (minus one Graham Coxon of course) of one of the most important bands of the '90s. Simon Tong is on guitar, Damon falls off the stage, Phil Daniels shows up for an encore which included a 'tip-pot' acoustic version of Parklife. I could go on. Anyway, he's some of the set for your listening pleasure.

_

BLUR

Live at Reading Festival

Saturday 23rd August 2003

01 Girls & Boys
02 Badhead
03 For Tomorrow
04 Good Song
05 Tender

06 Out of Time

07 Crazy Beat

08 Popscene

09 Trimm Trabb

10 Battery In Your Leg

11 The Universal

_
Blur are rumoured to be reunited with Graham Coxon. 2008 can only hope.

I Ain't Got No Soul

So theres a bit of a story here. THE RUMBLE STRIPS are arguably one of the stand-out new indie bands from past couple of years - due to their unbelievably catchy songs, glorious saxophone or stunning vocals.
Having spotted a tramp sleeping the their drum that featured on the cover of their debut album ("Girls & Weather" and on their recent singles) whilst it was parked outside Mornington Cresent underground station on the Camden Crawl back in April, i was wasting my saturday afternoon in a record shop when i found a white label 7" of The Rumble Strips covering Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" - with their remix of the original on the B-side. Turns out its so good, i'm starting to believe Winehouse actually has some songwriting talent.
So below is the cover and a bunch of live tracks from this fine, fine band.

The Rumble Strips - "Back To Black"
The Rumble Strips - "Alarm Clock" (Live at Leicester Summer Sundae 2007)

The Rumble Strips - "No Soul" (Live at the Astoria)
The Rumble Strips - "Motorcycle" (Live at the Astoria)
The Rumble Strips - "The Boys Are Back In Town" (Live at the Astoria)

Pushing Up The Tin Can Mountain Top

BECK (Hansen), despite his dealings with Scientology (who cares!) is quite simply a legend. Never holding back on re-inventing his sound from one record to the next (re: Mutations - Midvultures - Sea Change), ranging from slacker-generation anthems to psychedelic hip-hop stormers.
Last year, he put out The Information. Whilst the record started out as the Beck-hip-hop-album-produced-by Nigel-Radiohead-Godrich, the main progression in sound was atmosphere and space of the production (although, to be completist - i feel that theres was one specific remix that made space look a bit minimalist by comparison). Alongside that, Beck hit the road with some puppeteers and the aforementioned Radiohead - possibly the best combination in the world.

Anyway, below is an acoustic session recorded for BBC 6 Music in the autumn of last year.

01 We Dance Alone
02 Nausea
03 Motorcade/Think I'm In Love

Two Months Break

sorry about the ricidulous two months gap between this line and the last. I've got more Hawley and Bowie to come but for now i though i'd get these out...

Richard Hawley - Coles Corner (BBC 6Music Session)

Richard Hawley - Born Under A Bad Sign (Acoustic at Truck Festival IX)
this one is a bit wierd as it's recorded backstage - and theres a band on a stage next to the studio! so theres a bit of background noise but it's still rather magical.

David Bowie - Moonage Daydream (Peel Session from May 1972)

Clarity just confuses me

Super Furry Animals are probably the most underrated British band of the past decade. In August, they added "Hey Venus" to their back catalogue of soon-to-be-classic LPs. Quite simply, they produce catchy pop songs with a psychedelic twist, flipping constantly between hecktic guitars, 'techno wigouts' and laid back vibes. I was fortunate enough to see them live for a second time at Glastonbury this year, where they stormed through a greatest hits set in the sunshine.

Anyway, I recently started dusting off some Mini Discs, featuring all sorts of crap from around 2002 - 2005, including SFAs last session recorded for the late John Peel. Nearly three years ago to the day, they played a laid back 65-minute set spanning their backcatalogue - including three tracks off their Welsh language album "Mwng" (and another of "Mwng Bach"). It was less then three weeks before Peel passed away.

SUPER FURRY ANIMALS
Live at Maida Vale Studios
6th October 2004

01 - Intro
02 - Demons
03 - Nythod Cacwn
04 - Cryndod Yn Dy Lais
05 - Y Gwyneb Iav
06 - Hometown Unicorn
07 - The Turning Tide
08 - Gwreiddiav Dwfn
09 - Gathering Moss
10 - If You Don't Want Me To Destroy You
11 - Fragile Happiness
12 - Down A Different River
13 - Bleed Forever
14 - Hello Sunshine
15 - Run! Having spent most of their early time in the press having The Futureheads and Maximo Park in a paragraph in every review about them, they started 2007 looking exceptionally promising. Their flawless second album "Tones of Town" was released in January to rave reviews... However, they ultimately fell victim to the music industry's way of promoting records, (you know, single, tour, single, tour, etc.) and went into hibernation - only to re-emerge as a series of experiments...

Enough crap. Below are three sessions the band recorded for 6 Music, the first from 12th August 2005, around the release of their self-titled debut and the latter two from earlier this year.

12th August 2005
01 You're So Pretty
02 Shorter Shorter
03 You Can Decide

17th January 2007
04 A House Is Not A Home
05 She Can Do What She Wants
06 Working To Work

17th April 2007
07 Working To Work
08 She Can Do What She Wants

www.myspace.com/fieldmusic
http://www.field-music.co.uk/

David* Brewis of the band can currently be found under the name of School Of Language
www.myspace.com/schooloflanguage

*thanks for the correction...

left over for you last summer (repost)

HOT CHIP live is a bit of an odd experience. If you go in expecting to hear those albums tracks recreated by a collection of synts, Alexis' crazy sunglasses and a guitar, it doesn't really happen. However they still blast out electro that you can't not move your feet too.
I've personally seen them three times, with little recollection of any of the sets - the first two were in 2005, a watermelon-in-the-dance-tent-at-reading-festival discovery and the second was when they opened for LCD Soundsystem at Brixton Academy (pictured). The other was again at Reading Festival, last year, obscenely drunk.

Anyway, enough about that, its not important. Their third LP is due later this year, and judging by "My Piano" and the few tracks that have leaked off it, it looks very promising. The band have even recorded some of the songs live.
Below are 4 tunes from the Chip, "Careful" recorded at SxSW last year, "Over & Over" and their debut album's piviotal track "Crap Kraft Dinner" from Summer Sundae in Leicester last summer and "No Fit State" from that LCD show at Brixton in December 2005.

Hot Chip - Careful (live at SxSW 2006)
Hot Chip - Crap Kraft Dinner (live at Summer Sundae 2006)
Hot Chip - No Fit State (live at Brixton Academy, London, 2005)
Hot Chip - Over And Over (live at Summer Sundae 2006)

http://www.hotchip.co.uk/
www.myspace.com/hotchip

Misty's Big Adventure (Misty's Big Adventure)

Incase you've missed them so far, MISTY'S BIG ADVENTURE are liveliest nine-piece band in the country. Fronted by the songrwriting genius that is Grandmaster Gareth, they play "an eclectic mix of jazz, lounge, psychedelia, two tone, pop and punk" and are one of those bands who's live performances never fail to leave a smile on your face*.

Misty's next single "I Can't Bring The Time Back" is released on club fandango's label in september, preceeding their third LP "Funny Times". I'm sure it's going to be a brilliant record...

Anyway, below is a session recorded for BBC 6 Music back in January 2005.

01. I've been obsessed with them since just over a year ago, when I was fortunate enough to see them supporting Editors at Brixton Academy...

"Boxer" has had an incredible reception and the band have gone from strength to strength - The two gigs they played in London in May were both heart-stoppingly brilliant...

Anyway, below are acoustic versions of "Mistaken For Strangers" and Alligator b-side "You've Done It Again, Virginia" - recorded for XFM back in April.

THE NATIONAL - Mistaken For Strangers (Acoustic on XFM)

THE NATIONAL - You've Done It Again, Virginia (Acoustic on XFM)

introduction

hello all

So, I'm new on this whole blogging lark!
