I have been working as a  Community Manager for Socl since last August. Socl is a social experiment by Microsoft FUSE Labs, a division of Microsoft Research.  It integrates with Bing search engine and is an cool way to create a post using multimedia very quickly and effortlessly. You can add images, links, video or animated gifs.  You can see my profile here for some examples:  My Socl Profile.

Since I recently did a talk at Wordcamp Miami on Content Curation, I wanted to share how you can do content curation on Socl.  Once you create a post on Socl, you can click on the little upside down arrow underneath the post and get the html embed code and add it to your blog post.

Remember to click on Text in the post before you add the code.

Google Images at Google I/O 2013. Live Blogging while watching the  Keynote online:

• Feed  was flat and impossible to go deeper. New rollout is focused on design and depth.
• A new photo experience. What can happen when Google is your darkroom.
• Related hashtags
• Image analysis
• Enhanced photos. Can soften wrinkles in a picture very subtly.
• Hangouts: It is the conversation that matters, not the contacts
• Group video chat no charge
• Now 15 Gigabyte free on the cloud
• Image enhancements. I f you have a set of images from your vacation, it will pick out the best ones. It will recognize a landmark, which ones are blurry to not inlude them, no duplicates and will recognize people if they are happy or sad.
• Autoawesome motions: If you take a few images of a similar scene, it will make a motion picture, like an animated gif.
• Jpg vs Web P to replace .png, .jpg and animated gifs
• H.264 vs VPG 63% smaller, huge bandwidth savings on mobile.

Local business data is hard but using street view. Can have 40 million precise geo codes. 1 million websites are using Google maps and improving their websites.

Daniel:

• Next generation of Google maps for mobile.
• We are going beyond directions and navigations. Going more towards exploration and discovery.
• A way to explore new places.
• The map is the user interface
•  Google earth experience on the browser wthout downloading plugins
• 3 D photo tour generated from user uploaded photos
• Submit photo to google maps. Photo sphere.

Larry Page:

• Technology should do the hard work to free people to do other things.  Use technology to make new and important things to make people’s lives better.
• Today we are still scratching the surface on what is possible.
• To get computers out of the way and focus on what people really need. Smaller screens. Can’t have clutter. Moved things out of Google maps. Less things on the screens.

•  Build experiences that make people happy.
• People are not starving in the world because there is not enough food. It is because we are not organized. Technology can help with this and help solve problems for people.
• Focus on positive and changing the world. People naturally are concerned about changes. The pace of change in the world is increase. We have adaptive mechanisms to deal with that.  Different laws have not kept up with the change of technology. More of us need to go in other areas to improve and understand technology. We haven’t built mechanisms to allow for experimentation. Not able to do because of legal. It’s OK because the world cannot change too fast. Maybe a small part where safe places to try out new things and see what the effect is on people.

I attended the Ford Power of Choice event. Ford has been very busy in the past two years rolling out five electric cars! I did a little test drive for the first time in an electric car – The Fusion Energi. Actually it is an electric, plugin hybrid. It had a very smooth feel and drive.

Bill Gates bought Leonardo Da Vinci’s manuscript, the Codex Leicester, for $30 million dollars in 1994. A lot of people will probably say,” What a waste of money!”  Sure he is a billionaire and had enough money to spend it. But was it wasteful? What if he discovers something in that manuscript, like having an Aha moment in the middle of the night and that idea saves billions of dollars.

Then, I think the use of pondering over Da Vinci’s manuscript might be well worth it for a mind like Bill Gates who is doing alot to contribute positively in this world. Even though it is old news, 60 Minutes will be airing the show this Sunday night.

Last night I attended Latin Mixx Miami presented by Ford En Español. It is the first of a series of similar events that are also going to be held in Los Angeles and San Antonio before their New York Conference DJ Awards on July 9th. There was a great panel which included:

• DJ Laz,  DJ at 106 FM one of the most well known DJ’s in Miami.
• Motif,a producer and artist.
• Manny Ruiz, founder of Hispanicize
• Albert Collazo Director Hispanic Communications Ford en Español
• Lila Nikole, Fashion Designer
• Pedro Guzman, Universal Music Latino

The panel discussion was about how musicians and brands are using Social Media.  You got to be out there all the time if you are going to be in the music business. They also shared tips to the musicians on being an entrepreneur.

 DJ Lazz also said that it was important to have a thick skin because to be really successful in music, you just have to produce a good song. No way out of that! And if you are not ready for him telling you it’s not good, well then, he suggested it’s better you don’t get into this business. He really was encouraging musicians to give it their all and produce something really, really good.

After the panel, we got a treat and got into full rumba & Wepa! mode listening to some music from some great local Latino musicians including Domino Saints which recently got signed by Universal. Other artists included: Sito Rocks, Deja Elyze, El Chevo, Milkman, Jaheil and Monique Abbadie.

Note Update May 3, 2013: I was showing how to do Scoop.it during a Wordcamp Miami Presentation. Scoop.it is a content curation tool which you can distribute content to different Social Media Channels including Facebook, Twitter, and WordPress. Connecting it to WordPress is super easy.
When I scooped it and it automatically posted here on this blog post, the title was the same as the Scoop: Harlem Shake Miami Heat. I changed the URL for a more relevant post since I edited the content later by adding this paragraph.
