Great Moments in Sportswriting, Vol. VII

Len Pasquarelli: "In any battle pitting millionaires and billionaires, the public, comprised mostly of thousandaires, typically empathizes with no one, because it can relate to neither combatant."

(By the way, Len's new headshot may seem gruesome, but it's a vast improvement over his old one. Don't believe me?)

Famous Valentines Throughout History

It's time to take stock of our greatest human Valentines. These living, breathing treasures bless us by spreading the message of love 365 days a year. It's only fair to offer our admiration on their special day.

Bobby Valentine is a baseball veteran whose last job in the American major leagues was as manager of the New York Metropolitans. Valentine led the Mets to the NL pennant in 2000, but during his seven-year tenure, he acquired a reputation as an egotist who contributed to clubhouse tensions. In 2003, he validated his bum rap by irritating the viewers of ESPN's Baseball Tonight on a daily basis. The next year he accepted an offer to manage the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan, where nobody understands a word he says. He is quite popular there.

Gary Valentine is a comedian and is Kevin James's brother. He has a supporting role on James's sitcom, The King of Queens. He has also made guest appearances on The Wayne Brady Show and Celebrity Blackjack. He counts as "famous" only for the purposes of this list.

That about covers it. Thank you, Valentines!
