WHAT A DAY.

it was one of those days when everything seems a little bit harder than it should be. it was one of those days when aubrey and i argued more times than we should in a single day or in a single week in today's case. in hindsight they were all very silly things to argue about. it was one of those days when you run to target to pick up a few things for nachos and to buy the new Puss In Boots movie and when the cashier tells you your total, your jaw hits the floor because how could this possibly add up to such a ridiculous amount of money?! it was one of those days when your husband puts is brand new laptop (brand new as in he bought it yesterday) on the dining room table and one of the children spills a glass of water on it. we fear the computer is fried and that we are going to need to ::gasp:: buy another new one. it was one of those days when you just want to hit the pause button and go lay down upstairs, alone, in your bed and sleep it all away. it was one of those days when the kids didn't feel like listening and tried to be a little sneaky about a thing or two. yes, it was one of those days.

with all of that said... we could still put aside all of the bad that came out of today and turn the evening into something good. i made the most delicious nachos. the family watched Puss In Boots. birdie danced around like Puss almost the whole time which caused many laughs. at the end of the day we were together as a family, all in one room, together, happy, healthy and smiling. suddenly the day doesn't seem so bad.

i want to apologize for my unplanned hiatus from blogging over the past few days. it was one of those "my husband is out of town and it's just me and three kids all day and all night, and i really REALLY just don't want to be on or near a computer" sort of things. let - me - tell - you - IT WAS GREAT! i highly recommend taking a breather now and then. now just to muster the courage to tackle the 504 emails that piled up in my inbox. yikes!

i decided to make a quick stop into a nearby thrift store this afternoon and i am so glad that i did. i hit the little girls clothing jack pot. so many adorable vintage dresses, a couple of sweaters, an adorable skirt and vest set, a sweet little tee and some brown and white saddle shoes that birdie can grow into. seriously, just a quick pop in. in and out within 20 minutes with all of this cute stuff for a whopping thirty bucks. time and money well spent.

thrifting is like therapy to me. it's calming, rewarding and stress relieving. i often find myself "too busy" to squeeze in a lot of things, including a good thrift, but i think i need start going regularly again. i used to go five or six times a week and lately i'm lucky if i go once or twice a month. i'm excited to make time for something that i love again. it's so important not to let those things go when schedules get full and your time is limited. i'm hoping my luck continues.

RAINY DAY FUN.

we made heart shaped crayons while it was raining outside the other day. such a simple and fun activity to do with the kids. these easy to hold, chunky crayons are wonderful for new artists with chubby hands.

preheat oven to 275 degrees. fill over proof molds with paper peeled and broken crayons of your choice. bake until melted, approximately six-eight minutes. remove from oven and let cool completely before removing from molds.

today i...

am wishing that the rain would stop so we could play outside.
am sad that my husband is leaving town tomorrow.
sewed julian's patches on his boyscout shirt. he's official.
bought "yes man" on dvd for $4.95. i love cheap movies.
enjoyed a game of monopoly on the xbox with julian. much more exciting than the board game in my opinion. it's so much faster.
played peek-a-boo with gemma bird over and over.
went to dinner with my sweet family at the counter. yum!
am annoyed by new social media companies creating fake accounts on my behalf.
have been thinking about the fun diy that i have planned for the near future.
should have made soup earlier so i could heat up a bowl to warm me up right about now.
am missing some lovely lady friends.
listened to silly arguments over a beach ball.
introduced birdie to her new potty seat. she thinks it's a fancy new chair.
watched my husband get even more hair cut off. ahhh!
enjoyed birdie's new favorite thing "HUUUGS." she gives the best hugs.
had an "oh my god, you're only nine" moment.
planned to go thrifting but didn't.
am dreaming of moving.
am wishing the boys in my house would remember to put the seat down.
can't believe that a certain little one turns 18 months old in two days.
think i'll try to hit the hay a little early and catch up on some much needed sleep. fingers crossed!

sorry i didn't share a bits & pieces post yesterday. sometimes you don't want to fuss with pictures and just enjoy the day instead. i had a lot of those days this week. enjoy the rest of your weekend!
