Thats a wrap on the 2022 Orlando Guitar Show and what a show it was. I really enjoyed doing a video walk-thru with Luthier Nick Scout from Scout Guitars. Nick is an extremely talented Luthier here in Orlando and really knows his guitars.

We hope you enjoyed our video preview I posted the night before the show opened We wanted to give everyone an idea of what to expect based on what got set up on Dealer Day. It’s 27 minutes but it’s got a few good interviews from some awesome fellow dealers who at the show with cool guitars. If you missed it, it’s below from our YouTube channel.

Well 2021 continued the wave of guitar market enthusiasm and shows no signs of slowing. Boosted by strong demand, vintage prices continue to climb and demand for quality guitars in Orlando is stronger than ever. This pent up demand will no doubt be at work at the annual guitar show here in Orlando at the end of January, 2022.

The 2022 Orlando Guitar Show (Orlando International Guitar and Music Expo) is happening January 28, 29 & 30, 2022.

I recently spoke with Show Producer Morty Beckman about the 2022 Orlando Guitar Show at the Orlando Fairgrounds in late January. He tells me he is looking forward to what will no doubt be a robust show with top guitar dealers coming from all around the country with plenty of guitars to sell, buy and trade.

The 2021 Dallas International Guitar Show and Festival is On!

After waiting for almost two years, the Dallas Guitar Show, better known as the Dallas International Guitar Festival, is happening and guitar folks everywhere are cheering for Jimmy Wallace. The 43rd Annual Dallas International Guitar Festival will begin Friday, April 30th through May 2nd at Dallas Market Hall.

The longest running guitar show, the Dallas Guitar Show is also the biggest guitar show and festival in the United States and I think it’s fair to say that everyone is excited about this one.

I had a chance to catch up with show producer Jimmy Wallace at the Orlando Guitar Show in 2020. A true guitar gentleman, evidenced through his notable avoidance at self promotion, his passion for his Dallas Guitar Show, now in it’s 43rd incarnation, was obvious.

NOT JUST A GUITAR SHOW - A GUITAR FESTIVAL

Most of the guitar shows in the U.S. do not involve multiple live music stages and great guitarists and fans celebrating the guitar for three days in Dallas. The talent performing at this year’s 2021 includes some amazing guitar players, including George Lynch, Frank Hannon (Tesla) and of course Mr. Jimmy Wallace himself.

FEMALE GUITARISTS ABOUND AT 2021 DALLAS GUITAR SHOW

Worth noting are the many female guitarist performing at this year’s Dallas International Guitar Festival. On the performance bill this year includes:

10 UNDER 20 - YOUNG GUITAR PLAYERS COMPETE

Every year, the Dallas International Guitar Festival features the 10 best guitar players under 20 years of age to compete for big prizes. It’s a wonderful effort to continuously bring younger guitar players into the fold of the blues, rock and everything guitar. Growing the guitar legacy, these young guitarists are the next generation and you get to see them live at the dallas show.

Who knows who may emerge the latest preeminent guitar hero in the coming years? After all, they’re just getting started.

Noteworthy Appearances

A shout out to our friend BH, Gary Hernandez of Guitars West will once again be in attendance at the 2021 Dallas Guitar Show, April 30-May 2, 2021 and that always brightens up any guitar show and guarantees to make things fun and interesting. Make sure you drop by their booth at the show as Gary always has the good stuff!

Jimmy is also a maker of electric guitar pickups of every variety, and like all of us, on the quest for the ultimate tone.

2021 Orlando Guitar Show Update

2020 was a year like no other. Without the ability to hold large gatherings in the era of the Covid-19 virus, we’ve suffered through with no live music concerts and worse yet, no guitar shows. Most all of the guitar shows that had been planned for 2020 were canceled to the dismay of guitar enthusiasts nationwide.

Unfortunately, after careful consideration, the 2021 Orlando Guitar Show (Orlando International Guitar and Music Expo) is postponed until January 28, 29 & 30, 2022.

I spoke recently with Show Producer Morty Beckman about the 2021 Orlando Guitar Show cancellation. According to Morty, it wasn’t an easy decision but the health of the public and the exhibitors just outweighed the risks involved at this particular time.

Morty mentioned that the hardest part is not being able to catch up and spend time with the guitar dealer friends at what has been an annual event in Orlando for decades, with many of them exhibiting at the Orlando Guitar Show since the beginning.

I concur with Morty as I have gotten to know some of these guys over the years and their temporary absence is felt by all of us. They’ll be back next year and in the meantime, enjoy some photo and video highlights from the 2020 Orlando Guitar Show.

Craig Brody The Guitar Broker cracking me up!

Join Craig Brody of The Guitar Broker in Ft. Lauderdale as he explains why the 1961 Fender Jazz Bass is a very unique and rare Fender Bass Guitar.

Craig has been in the guitar business for decades and is one of the best guitar dealers in the U.S. and is based out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Craig is a bass player and is also into classic cars at his shop in Ft. Lauderdale.

Gary “Big Hern” Hernandez of Guitars West in Orange County, California talks about a unique Fender Stratocaster he owned and got a big surprise. It was really great that Gary and Detlef made the long journey from Southern California to Orlando. I know they found some great guitars, had a good time and we can’t wait to see what next year’s antics bring to the 2022 Orlando Guitar Show.

In this little video snippet, Drew Berlin of Drew Berlin Vintage Guitars in Los Angeles, California talks to Tobias of Guitar Stories USA about what gets him excited about the guitar thing. Drew is one of the top guitar experts, especially when in it concerns the 1958, 1959 and 1960 Gibson Les Paul Bursts. An accomplished professional guitarist and Producer, Drew always seems to find the rare vintage guitars we all want.

Not only has Eliot always found incredible guitars for decades, but he is one of the kindest guys you’ll ever meet and a brilliant guitarist.

Jimmy Wallace - Jimmy Wallace Guitars & The Dallas International Guitar Show & Festival

Always good to see Jimmy Wallace in the house at the Orlando Guitar Show. Besides being a great guitarist and one of the best guitar builders and guitar dealers, Jimmy has produced the Dallas International Guitar Festival, the largest guitar festival for nearly 40 years. Jimmy Wallace Guitars is an institution and is one of the few guitar builders officially authorized by Gibson to make their own versions of certain Gibson models of electric guitars.

Jimmy’s Dallas International Guitar Show and Festival will happen this April. Stay tuned here and we’ll provide updates on the show as they come in and as of now, the 2021 Dallas International Guitar Show is happening in May, 2021.

1955 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop Comes Home After 30 Years

Every guitar has a story and this 1955 Les Paul Goldtop has an interesting one that’s a lost guitar homecoming story. Some of the best guitar stories to me are when a guitar, that’s ripped away from its owner, is reunited with them despite all hope being lost it would ever return.

This story comes to us from Guitarist/Bassist Paul Drennan, a brilliant musician and cool guy who often plays with Vince Neil (Motley Crue), Pat Travers and George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob).

Paul has been on the guitar safari and guitar collecting scene since he was a 14 year old kid in the late ‘60s and has quite a collection, including an early ‘60s Gibson ES-335 I just heard about recently. Paul also deals in vintage hot rods when he’s not rockin on stage and you visit him by clicking here.

Paul’s 55 Les Paul guitar story story starts with a 14 year old kid in 1969 searching the Orlando Sentinel for guitars for sale, hoping to spot a deal. Yes, he still had the actual newspaper advertisement.

The ad read Gibson Les Paul and Amplifier, $200. Of course in 1969, that was a lot of money, especially for a 14 year old kid (that’s $1,400 in 2019 dollars). But even as young kid, Paul knew a hot guitar deal when he saw one. More importantly, that kid just had to have that 1955 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop! I totally get it!

At that time, this Les Paul was really just a used guitar, slightly cheaper than a new Les Paul (and with P-90 pickups) but this deal also included and amp.

Today, this beautiful vintage electric guitar is truly in a class of unrivaled craftsmanship from a long ago era and possibly the finest era at Gibson Guitars.

A stickler for the details, Paul even wrote a letter to Gibson to verify the date of manufacture and they actually wrote him back in this letter. Gibson verified the likely date of manufacture as 1955.

The story then takes a turn about 10 years later when Paul had the fever for a 1959 Fender Stratocaster and actually traded this ‘55 Les Paul to a friend, Producer & Guitarist Tony Battaglia. (Sidenote: I met Tony in the early 90s when I was Legal Counsel for his partner Tim Coons, Producer of the Backstreet Boys).

The go to device to recreate the guitar effects Used by David Gilmour on pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon Album. Quite a cool piece of gear.

It didn’t take Paul long to realize he had made a serious mistake parting ways with his beloved ‘55 Les Paul.

Whenever Paul would run into Tony, he would always ask him if he could get back his Les Paul and the answer was always the same - NO!

Then, about 30 years later something magical happened that brought this beautiful all gold ‘55 Les Paul home to Paul.

This ‘55 is one those rare all gold with gold back instead of the more typical dark back on most Les Paul Goldtops of that era.

Hands down one of the best digital audio capture cameras, made specifically for recording live music performances. I personally bought this package and highly recommend it. Simply Amazing Sound.

The Beatles On This Day in History

June 25, 1968: On this day in history the Beatles made a monumental change in the way they approached recording in the studio. It would forever alter their approach to the recording of every Beatles song and Beatles album thereafter.

Prior to this day, the Beatles had approached studio recording in more traditional and structured ways, as dictated by the adults in charge, where the band would rehearse and then start cutting rhythm tracks once they came into the recording studio to record that particular Beatles song.

But on June 25, 1968 they reflected together on how they recorded their Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Beatles album and they realized something in the context of their recent studio freedom:

They had not recorded more than ten takes per song on most instruments and vocal parts during the recording of Sgt. Pepper, and most often usually half that many takes. So they thought, why not record every rehearsal session as a studio session, keeping the best tracks of the many takes or run throughs during the course of the rehearsal/recording sessions?

Hands down one of the best digital audio capture cameras, made specifically for recording live music performances. I personally bought this package and highly recommend it. Simply Amazing Sound.

My guess is they wanted to consolidate rehearsal and recording to enjoy their personal time, relationships, money and so they decided on this day in history to just roll tape whenever they were in the studio from that day forward.

In today’s world of digital recording, this is a common and technically easy thing to do but in 1968, with the meter running on studio time, most bands had no choice but to rehearse, get it tight, then record. The Beatles had the luxury of having Producer George Martin and others sorting it out in post production from what was captured on tape.

The first Beatles song they tried this new method of recorded rehearsing on was a track that ended up being re-recorded the next day. This song turned out to be John’s “Everybody’s Got Something To Hide (‘Except for Me and My Monkey).”

So the Beatles broke their new rule on night one but they obviously got better at it. The great part about this looser approach is that many of these outtakes were possibly better than the released version.

Most of these Beatles recordings from these types of recording sessions constitute the Beatles Anthology album box set released in the late ‘90s and they are some of my favorite versions of Beatles songs.

Les Paul plays with Guitar Legends Billy Gibbons, Joe Walsh and Brian May

For any fan of Les Paul, these fantastic video clips of the great Les Paul playing his Les Paul guitar with some of my lifelong favorite rock guitarists are must see viewing. These videos were filmed at Les Paul’s standing gig at Fat Tuesday’s in Manhattan from the mid-1980s through the mid-1990s.

While I have seen many clips of Les at his Iridium gigs, these clips from Fat Tuesday’s in NYC are simply classic and in some ways I feel they are better, or let’s just say there is a different energy. Of course that different energy could be because they are practically piled on top of each other in what is a very small venue and stage area.

Whatever the reason, these clips of Les Paul and some of my favorite guitar heroes were very enjoyable to me so I thought I would share them with you, my guitar brothers in arms. As YouTube content has grown exponentially, I’ll be procuring and sharing more cool videos of note as I discover them and bring you more of them.

According to sources, Les Paul started holding Court around 1984 in the small basement club in New York until it closed in 1996. One thing I love in these three videos is that how these rock guitar gods (to me) are obviously in awe of Les Paul and how humbling it is for them to be in the presence of the master himself. They are almost like kids meeting their favorite guitar hero and that is very telling about the huge influence Les Paul had on so many of the guitar faithful, especially baby boomers who grew up seeing Les Paul and Mary Ford on television.

Hands down one of the best digital audio capture cameras, made specifically for recording live music performances. I personally bought this package and highly recommend it. Simply Amazing Sound.

Here’s a great video with Smokin Joe Walsh playing Les Paul’s Les Paul guitar. As you will see, he’s acting like a shy and humble kid who is getting to hang with his adolescent guitar hero. Les is as always, the gracious host at these gigs.

Joe Walsh has always been one of my favorite guitarists since I learned of him through my Uncles, who partied with him at his Kent State gigs (pre James Gang) when I was little kid in the late 60s/early 70s in Ohio.

It reminds me that while our generational guitar and musical influences may differ based on when you became aware, your heroes are your heroes, and meeting them can be a joy and daunting at the same time.

In this Brian May session, Brian came somewhat prepared with his own guitar with a distortion set up. Obviously these are very off the cuff sessions, but Brian May tells a funny story about how he wasn’t going to fly to New York until he found out that he had the possibility of sitting in and jamming with Les Paul. Upon hearing that news, he was on a plane from England to jam with the legendary Les Paul.

2019 Atlanta Guitar Show June 8th & 9th

Atlanta is finally getting its first major guitar show in over 15 years. On June 8th & 9th at the Infinite Energy Forum in Duluth, Georgia at 10 a.m. the doors will open for pure guitar fun and joy for the guitared. Many of the best vintage guitar dealers will be there along with a few celebrity guitarists.

Why No Guitar Show in Atlanta For So Many Years?

For those of us that seek out the best guitars on the planet, this show is long overdue. While there are a few Carolina shows and a Nashville guitar show, Atlanta not having a big scale guitar show was always a mystery. This type of undertaking is not easy and it requires a lot of time, effort and money. The word is that the organizers of the last known show in Atlanta just couldn’t keep it going on their end.

Grinning Elk Takes On The Challenge

We can thank veteran Atlanta guitar dealers Ray and Lee of Grinning Elk Music for this grand undertaking. The facility is 50,000 feet of vendor and exhibit space and there will be lots of the best vintage guitar dealers from around the country and the world.

Some of the best guitar dealers sure to have the best vintage who will be attending include Guitars West from California, Eliot Michael and his Rumbleseat Music from Nashville, Drew Berlin Vintage Guitars from California, Jimmy Wallace from Dallas, Gary’s Vintage and many others.

Given the size of the venue and the number of quality dealers that will be there, this show will most likely become one of the big shows on the national guitar show scene.

Guest appearances by KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick and Guitarist Virtuoso Michael Angelo Batio, both performing and giving a clinics and Q&A session.

2019 Dallas International Guitar Festival Highlights

The 42nd Dallas International Guitar Show just happened. Many of the vintage elite call the Dallas Show the biggest and best of all United States guitar shows.

I had a chance to catch up with show producer Jimmy Wallace a few months ago. A true guitar gentleman, evidenced through his notable avoidance at self promotion, his passion for his Dallas Guitar Show was obvious. Jimmy is also a maker of electric guitar pickups of every variety, and like all of us, on the quest for the ultimate tone.

1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty Finds a Good Home

I recently had the pleasure of brokering the sale of a very special guitar: a 1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty. You’ve got to love it when you can bring good people together to pass the torch of a truly special guitar. Such happened recently with this ‘58 Gibson Les Paul and I was happy to be a part of it.

AM I THE GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM BLACK BEAUTY WHISPERER?

For some reason, triple pickup 1958 Les Paul Customs keep finding their way to me. Black Gibson Les Pauls from the late 19502 truly are some of the best electric guitars ever made. This one comes from Chicago where the seller has owned it personally since 1958 and there are no modifications. This black beauty les paul is all original and superb in every way a black beauty Gibson can.

Black Gibson Les Paul Story

The guitar story behind this beautiful 1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom is that it was purchased by Bob Marciante (Bob Marcy), an entertainer, guitarist, drummer and mainstay performer in the Chicagoland area, back in 1958 from a friend who only had it a few months. Here’s where the story gets interesting...

Bob’s friend was a female guitarist in 1958 who just a few months earlier, bought the Black Beauty new from a shop in Chicago. She had just landed a big gig in Las Vegas and figured she needed that new Les Paul Custom.

However, her plans got suddenly and dramatically altered when she found herself engaged to be married. So instead of flying to Las Vegas for a high profile standing gig, she got engaged and decided to quit the music business to get married. Such were the times…

So, she sold the Les Paul Custom to her friend Bob and he’s had it ever since. Bob has continued to perform for many years in the Chicago area and is also a talented drummer and entertainer known as Bob Marcy.

1958 Gibson Black Beauty Les Paul

The buyer of this original 1958 Gibson Les Paul Fretless Wonder was Jimmy Boreson of Jimmy’s Vintage Music located in Auburndale, Florida. Jimmy is a mainstay guitar dealer and sells guitars in Orlando, Tampa and surrounding areas of Central Florida. He has a cozy shop in a quaint small Florida town and always has great guitars, amps and gear and is a knowledgable and friendly guy.

Jimmy’s Vintage is great guitar shop in the old school style like they used to be in decades past, where you come in and actually feel and play the instrument until you find that special guitar that speaks to you.

So now this beautiful 1958 Les Paul Custom has a new home after 61 years and everyone is happy.

As Gibson emerges out of it’s bankruptcy today, November 1st, 2018, the new ownership group has announced its new CEO and other key team leaders. New CEO JC Curleigh, who previously ran Levi Strauss, will hopefully return Gibson to the iconic brand of guitars we all know and love.

What Do You Think of the New CEO at Gibson?

“I have no idea, I have never met or heard of him before. He comes out of Levi’s so I am afraid we are going to play the lifestyle game again. I understand not one of the new group is from the industry very typical for Gibson. They have a long and storied history of selecting people from outside with no passion for the gear. There was an old saying…never write anyone’s name down at Gibson in pen. Use a pencil so you can change it in a few months.

“I don’t know that either. The Gibson Company has always let the dealer be the last one to know anything. At least they are very well funded.”

“I have also met Nat with KKR who is a guitar player and a very bright and passionate Gibson guy as well. I think the new owners understand the iconic brand they are in charge of and I feel things will state to show improvement.”

Why did Gibson end up in bankruptcy?

“They took their eye off the ball of what they do best and decided that Philips would be their salvation??? We are an odd industry. Outsiders just don’t get us and we don’t get them, it’s not their fault, they are nice people but they don’t have a clue.”

“I feel the former company was more interested in a larger brand presence and less interested in the employees and the guitar product. There are many talented passionate people working at Gibson that are capable of building great guitars.”

“How much time do you have?! I believe too much of Gibson’s efforts near the “end” were wasted on lashing out at dealers of certain lines and even other builders who Gibson felt encroached on their over-reaching and sometimes vague “copyright”. Instead of working on improving their brand, their instruments, their artists-I saw way too much time spent on wagging their finger. Gibson failed because Gibson failed. ”

What would you most like to see happen at Gibson?

“Concentrate on the quality control especially at the higher end where instruments should be flawless. Quite often these are not when comparable brands in both acoustic and electric are. It’s easy to do I guess since several manufacturers already manage to make the grade. I don’t expect the corporate culture to change very much and that’s not a good thing. My highest rate of returns in my Guitars of Distinction collection are Gibson.”

“I would like to see less versions of historic models and more defined vintage inspired craftsmanship being appalled on each guitar. I feel the builders are more excited and are focused on a better future.”

“As a woman in the industry, as a fan of a good Gibby, and as a recovering Gibson dealer, I hope Gibson can make a concerted effort to repair the damage done by Henry Juszkiewicz when he decided the industry was failing large in part due to women not being comfortable going into music stores.”

What advice would you give the new CEO of Gibson?

“Listen to your dealers, that would be a nice for a change.”

“As far as giving advice to the new CEO ? I don’t feel he needs advice. He wouldn’t be the CEO if he wasn’t ready for the challenge”

So the sentiment is generally positive that Gibson Guitars will regain its legendary footing as the iconic brand of guitars that players have known and loved for well over a century.

KALEIGH BAKER DELIVERS THE GOODS

There's nothing more enjoyable for a guitar player than performing with a great singer and Kaleigh Baker is most definitely that. As anyone familiar with her career knows, when she does her Janis Joplin tribute, it's a treat for any audience to experience.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE REHEARSAL STUDIO

I had a chance to sit in on a rehearsal at my good friend and top Saxophonist Chris Charles' Castle Door Studios in Winter Park, Florida and I put together a taste for you of what this show is all about. It rocks, and I don't hand out praise easily but this one is worth your time if you love Janis Joplin music performed by a great singer with a tight band.

As the band preps for another live show at Wills Pub in Orlando Friday, May 11th, 2018, they were hard at work tightening up with the horn section, led by Chris Charles, and hammering out some of the subtlies. Make no mistake, Kaleigh's voice was on and the upcoming show is sure to be a great one.

Here is some footage that should get you in the spirit of some live Janis Joplin by Kaleigh and her Little Boy Blue Band, featuring my longtime friend and Orlando fixture guitarist Brian Chodorcoff once again helping it all come together as a band.

RISING DEMAND FOR TRIBUTE ACTS

I was recently discussing this issue with some industry peeps and it is a fact that tribute acts are in high demand. As a guitarist growing up in Orlando, I started gigging at 15 with an amazing Elvis "Illusionist" (many believe the term "Impersonator" to be a slur) and the audiences loved it.

Some believe it is indication that the music of old is better than music of today but I think it's more about the universal truth that a great musical artist is a great musical artist and their music is truly timeless. I also believe there is a subconscious conditioning of our brains from what we have listened to over and over from a young age and it somehow connects us to certain feelings and memories...and we love that!

WHO DESERVES A TRIBUTE?

Not every act should be featured as the subject of a tribute, but in the world or rock and roll, Janis Joplin is unquestionably a legend of requisite stature and Kaleigh nails it. It takes amazing vocal chops to even attempt it but Kaleigh delivers a killer show and it's good to see this show live again since it took top awards at the Orlando Fringe Festival a few years ago.

Gibson's Bankruptcy: What Could Happen Now in The Case.

Upon hearing the news of Gibson Guitar's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, those of us in the guitar community were shocked but not surprised. I wrote a blog article two years ago when Gibson's credit rating was downgraded and the writing was on the wall then.

As a former Bankruptcy Attorney & Music Attorney for over 21 years, I'll give a brief summary of how Chapter 11 works and what could happen at Gibson during the case.

Chapter 7 is a liquidation case, where a company is chopped up and assets sold off and the business is closed. Chapter 11 is a reorganization case, where the company tries to find a way to not only stay in business, but emerge stronger by shedding certain debts, assets and contractual commitments. Gibson filed a Chapter 11 petition, seeking to restructure.

For the moment, creditors are being cooperative with stockholders and the management backed Chapter 11 Plan. It appears that the plan is to undo the huge financial blunder of buying electronics and audio assets from Philips in 2014 and get back to what they are known for: guitars.

However, this management and creditor plan could change and a number of things could happen that nobody can really anticipate.

Creditors Can Object & A Plan Has To Eventually Be Confirmed

Chapter 11 proceedings are not always cooperative. There is a tension between what creditors individually and collectively will agree to versus forcing the company into a Chapter 7 liquidation and selling assets to satisfy creditors.

Any Creditor can propose their own Plan of Reorganization

In fact, it is a business strategy for companies to purchase some debts just to file a takeover plan of reorganization. Competing plans are a natural part of the Confirmation process in a Chapter 11 case and there are often many proposed.

Equity Groups Can Intervene

There have already been rumors that Guitarist Joe Bonamassa may be putting together investors and financing to step in to get Gibson back to it's guitar making roots. Joe, as many know, is an avid collector of all things vintage and plays rare 1950s Les Pauls on tour. He has done much to keep the Gibson Les Paul in the minds of music fans and who knows? Maybe a more guitar player based management and/or board of directors could make a huge difference in the future of the company.

How The Company Will Operate During The Case

As Nigel will tell you, these go to 11!

In other types of bankruptcy cases, a Trustee is appointed to administer a bankruptcy estate. In a Chapter 11 like Gibson filed, the company will be a "Debtor-In-Possession" and current management will continue to run the company.

The Chapter 11 Plan will be proposed, discussed and eventually voted upon by creditors as will any other competing Plans. However, it's important to remember that it all comes down to who is owed the most money and the behind-the-scenes negotiations among creditors and with the company that often determine what will be the final outcome.

Will an aggressive equity or creditor based group propose a competing plan that might include ouster of current management?

Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz is not well loved among the consumers of the brand and many believe that it is his poor decision making a few years ago that has led Gibson to their current situation.

So we shall see. I think the odds are good Gibson will emerge from Chapter 11 a stronger company. But I also think they need to take a hard look in the mirror to see how they got here and to remember to stick to what they are known for...building some of the best guitars ever made.

The Guitar Legacy - Is it Shrinking?

There's been a lot of discussion that the younger generation don't have much of an interest in electric guitars. I was recently on a Facebook discussion where there was a consensus by many that it's a dying thing.

Justification for this sentiment included things like:

Modern music doesn't use much guitar
Fewer kids are interested in learning to play
Young players don't care about the Vintage guitar market

There was also discussion (much of it misinformed, in my opinion) about Millenials, Generation Y, Generation X and Baby Boomers.

I am toying with an idea I'll tell you more about later, that I may start called the "Guitar Legacy Project" in an effort to keep guitar love alive by connecting the generations to learn, share and appreciate the passion of playing and collecting electric guitars.

I would love to hear opinions from older players and collectors and younger players too about whether you believe our numbers are shrinking and how we can keep the guitar legacy alive.

Eric Clapton, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash - 3 Guitar Legends

If you are a true guitarist or a lover of guitar music and you have never seen this clip, you must watch this!

This is from The Johnny Cash Show from 1970 and features Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton and Carl Perkins performing the song "Matchbox" and it is great!

The pre-song banter between Cash and Clapton is fantastic, as Johnny pays homage to the English (he had just toured there) and to Eric Clapton.

Eric Clapton likewise pays homage to Cash and confesses how much he was influenced by American Blues, Country and early Rock and Roll...and Carl Perkins, who then joins them onstage and gets down!

Awesome stuff!

With all the recent press about that 1958 "First Burst" that recently went up for sale (see our blogpost from last week), I thought I would share this great video trailer for all the Les Paul Burst Lovers out there.

This is a very short (4 minute) trailer for the video documentary "THE 1959 BURST - A Les Paul Documentary" made in 2007 giving a brief history about the Les Paul Burst, specifically focused on the '59 Burst, aka "The Holy Grail" which most collectors would agree is probably the most collectible and valuable electric guitar ever made.

Has anyone actually ever seen it? There seems to be a shroud of mystery about this film and nobody seems to have seen it or knows where it can purchased or whether it was ever released. I've seen this thread in some of the Les Paul forums a few years ago, (2009 and again in 2012) so I'm wondering if the mystery has been solved?

This appears to be a great documentary film produced by Cynthia Huffman for MAXFILMCO and was the winner of 'Best Documentary Film' at the Hollywood FAME Awards and Phoenix Music Awards but I can't see where it was ever released or distributed.

It looks like it would be a really cool film and appears to have some great interviews, with Billy Gibbons, Slash, Rick Nielsen and many other guitar legends about why they love these iconic guitars that many of them have made famous over the past 5 decades.

If anyone has any clues or information about this film, please comment below, Let's solve this mystery once and for all Les Paul Lovers!
