Mac OS X Brew docker-compose won’t run due to “Couldn’t connect to Docker daemon” error

It’s reported as fixed since 2015 here but if running:

docker-compose build

Still says “you might need to run docker-machine start default“, you can’t connect, and the docker-machine is already running, you can configure compose to use the machine with

eval "$(docker-machine env default)"

ISO/IEC 27001:2013 (Draft mayor changes)

Recently I went to a forum about ISO/IEC 27001. At the end of the forum what caught my attention was the changes on the new version draft, where the main approach is to standardise all ISO normalisation documents to SL Annex, here is a list of the mail changes:

Definitions is gone from ISO/IEC 27001, now ISO/IEC 27000 definitions apply.
PDCA model removed, continuous improvement is inherent.
+28 new mandatory requirements for a total of 130.
Inclusion of new sections.
Implementation order is irrelevant, what matter is get compliant.
Riskowner is the new role for risk assessment process.
-19 controls on Annex A, going from 133 in version 2005 to 114 in new draft.

There a couple more changes but I think this are the most relevant.

Find and remove files with pattern in bash

Useful command to remove files that start with “._” (no quotes), for some reason tar command in OS X creates those files and I found an app having problems with them, here is how to get rid of those unnecessary hidden files:

find . -name *._* -exec rm -f {} \;

Magento current year on footer

If you ever wonder why some sites have old years (not even the last one) on footer copyright text, for me this comes from a lazy development, since it can be quickly fixed with code, in this case I’m going to show you how to do it in Magento e-commerce platform:

First login to your Magento admin panel and in

System -> Configuration -> Design -> Footer -> Copyright

type:

Copyright ©  Company Name. All Rights Reserved.

Then open the following file to edit code:

/app/design/frontend/[interface]/[theme]/template/page/html/footer.phtml

Lookup for the following section of code:

And replace it with:

/', date('Y'), $this->getCopyright()) ?>

Coda 2 SSH Terminal connection with private key

When it’s needed to connect to a remote host using SSH private key with Coda 2, first you have to add the keychain to SSH:

ssh-add -K ~/path_to_key/user_id_rsa

Then just open terminal in Coda and leave password field blank.

Find out Ubuntu version from command line

PostgreSQL services Mac OS X Lion start/stop

When it comes to manually start/stop services installed by PostgreSQL on a Mac, I had a hard time figuring out how to do it, so here is the solution:

First you need to know where definition files for daemons are located:

/Library/LaunchDaemons

Here you will find at least 2 files (if you installed EnterpriseDB-ApachePhp with StackBuilder)

com.edb.launchd.apache.plist
com.edb.launchd.postgresql-9.1.plist

You can start/stop this daemons with:

launchctl start com.edb.launchd.apache
launchctl stop com.edb.launchd.apache

launchctl start com.edb.launchd.postgresql-9.1
launchctl stop com.edb.launchd.postgresql-9.1
