			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You&#8217;ve tried all the diets out there, feel like you&#8217;ve worked yourself to the bone exercising, but nothing seems to work. Obesity makes you feel lousy, and you just want to get your life back.  You may be thinking of getting weight loss lap band surgery, and wondering about the risks.  Is it all easy street after the surgery, or will you be at risk for further <a href="http://tipscarehealth.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><strong>health</strong></a> problems&#8211; or even death?</p>
<p>The answer, unfortunately, is that you will. Lap band surgery is major surgery&#8230; and like any major surgery, it comes with a whole host of risks.  And yes, one of those risks is death.  Sounds pretty scary, doesn&#8217;t it?</p>
<p>While lap band surgery isn&#8217;t a decision to be entered into lightly, if you&#8217;re considering the surgery, you shouldn&#8217;t let the risk of death scare you too much.  Lap band surgery was approved for use in 2001, and gets safer and safer all the time.  In fact, the death rate for lap band surgery, which is at a nationwide rate of 3 or fewer deaths in 10,000 surgeries, is even lower than routine surgeries such as hernia repair surgery. Major surgery is always risky, but lap band is one of the safer surgeries you can have, as far as death rate is concerned.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Being overweight is not just a physical issue, but is a mental issue also. We bring along more baggage about food, eating and our self-image than we think. This is why you must mentally prepare yourself for the journey that you are about to take with the Lap-Band.</p>
<p>Visualize<br />
The old saying &#8220;if you can see it, you can be it&#8221; definitely applies here. In order to be successful with Lap-Band surgery, you must be able to see yourself succeeding. See yourself at your goal weight. Not only how you look, but how clothes will fit, how others will look at you and on, and on. There really are many things that will change, just be able to see yourself able to roll with the changes and you will be fine.</p>
<p>Believe<br />
Believe in yourself. Believe that you have the discipline to stick to your eating and exercise programs. The fact that all of the changes are going to happen to you is a lot to get your mind around. Don&#8217;t let it overwhelm you. Believe that you can do it. This cannot be said enough. You have to live it every day.</p>
<p>Change<br />
Change the attitudes that you have about food. See yourself in control of your reactions to food. This would sound crazy to someone that is &#8220;skinny&#8221;, but to those of us who are overweight, it makes perfect sense. You will also have to change the way you view yourself. After all, you will be looking at a different person in the mirror after you loose some weight. It can be a shock. Some people have problems seeing themselves as anything but fat. In order to be successful with your Lap-Band journey, you must be able to get over this.</p>

<p>Ever had a time that you just wanted to be alone to collect your thoughts? Some people find that by writing in a diary, it gives them an outlet to get rid of all those constant thoughts going around in your head and it can often be a very cathartic experience. Diary writing can often be that &#8220;person to talk to&#8221; when you have nobody to share your thoughts with. <p>We all have family members who either throughout their lives, or as they have gotten older, have suffered from a form of mental illness such as depression, Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease, autism or many more of these life changing and debilitating diseases and illnesses. At the moment there aren&#8217;t a lot of things that we can do to cure them either. But one thing that a lot of medical professionals have put forward is that writing in general, or even diary writing is something that research has picked up on having some significant effects on slowing down these mental illnesses.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s have a look at five different reasons why diary writing helps your mental <a href="http://tipscarehealth.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><strong>health</strong></a> and could also help prevent the onset of these mental illnesses both now and later in your life:</p>
<p>It helps to bring out your thoughts and your memories.</p>
<p>Ever been on a trip and taken photos and laughed along with people along through the event, only to get home and then realise that you may remember some things about the trip, but not everything, and that it was a faded memory? Even the photos can&#8217;t help you remember. Writing it down in a diary helps to record those thoughts and feelings of what it was like when you were there. It stimulates thoughts and emotions. You then remember, what you were wearing, what the weather was like, how good or bad the food tasted. The culture and experience of the place you visited.</p>
<p>It helps you reflect on what sort of a person you are.</p>
<p>Maybe the diary you are keeping is your personal thoughts or part of a therapy advised by a psychologist or practitioner, to help you release those inner feelings and emotions, in order to help you deal with them and perhaps move on from an unpleasant and traumatic experience. By writing down what you thought, what you said, how you acted during a particular event, or a time or a place that you were in, it helps you to recognise perhaps some sorts of behaviours that you may need to correct or think about. It kind of gives you a mirror image of yourself and can often be a positive and useful tool and help you create a better person.</p>

<p>A report in a 1996 issue of Fundamental Applied &amp;amp; Toxicology showed that mice that were bred to develop certain lung tumors were protected by the formation of the tumors simply by having green tea added in their diet. To help solidify these claims in the study, mice that did not have the green tea developed the tumors. It is important to mention that more studies have to be done in order to suggest the same findings may apply for humans. It is said that green tea can help prevent heart disease, lower cholesterol, abate cancer growth, and even fight cavities.</p>
<p>But there is way more to green tea than just the benefits, and it is also wise to state that the way we consume this tea is important and can actually determine how much of these benefits we reap. Now aside from benefits, there is more to this beverage that can be obtained. For one, since there are hundreds of varieties of the green type of tea, it offers a world to choose from which many tea drinkers love since there is always a new kind to experience. Each one has its own distinct taste as well; speaking of which&#8230;</p>
<p>If you ever had green tea brewed from a tea bag, or had it chilled in a bottle&#8230;then you more than likely didn&#8217;t come close to the flavor this tea offers. This is because most tea brewed from tea bags are made from &#8220;fannings&#8221;, which are the lowest grading of tea. Literally bottom of the barrel!</p>
<p>Brewing green tea, or any type of tea, using whole loose leaves is a far superior way to obtain the unique flavor and benefits your tea provides. And what about the tea chilled in bottles? Well, since mostly sugar and corn syrup are the main ingredients, only a small hint of the actual tea will touch your palate.</p>
<p>Now since we&#8217;re on taste, let us debunk another thing that green tea is sadly misunderstood for.</p>
<p>Many folks believe that green tea has a displeasing flavor that will be too vegetal to enjoy or get used to. Well, I won&#8217;t lie to you, some varieties do have a somewhat grassy taste, but the amazing thing is that your tongue will open up to it. It may take about 4 to 5 cups, but it happens, you adopt. And usually after that, you&#8217;ll WANT a tea with an awesome and strong vegetal taste now that the flavor has a certain &#8220;sweetness&#8221;. Just give it a chance.</p>
<p>Chinese greens overall are more mild, with some varieties having little depth, so for newcomers, that may be a good place to start the journey. Japanese green teas like sencha, have more grassier notes which seasoned tea drinkers really enjoy. So if you&#8217;re new to this type of tea, you may be a bit overwhelmed by the stronger taste.</p>
<p>Another factor on taste is how you brew your loose leaf green tea. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is adding boiling water to the delicate leaves. Let the water cool down for half a minute to avoid a spoiled cup. Also, the type of water used for steeping is important too. Avoid tap water since the impurities will influence the flavor. Stay away from distilled water as well since this has a tendency to make the tea taste &#8220;flat&#8221;. Filtered water or natural spring water works best.</p>
<p>The age of your green tea has a role to play and is best enjoyed within 6 to 8 months of the flush&#8230;no longer.</p>
<p>And of course watch your steeping time! Green tea has properties in it called tannins which release in greater numbers after about 3 minutes of brewing. If too many escape, your cup will become bitter and lose its subtle flavor. So be sure and follow the brewing instructions! Also, it is recommended you use a large infuser so that the leaves have room to open, so avoid tea ball infusers if you can.</p>
<p>So remember, green tea has many benefits to offer, both for taste and <strong>health</strong>. But in order to experience the best of it, loose leaf tea is the way to go. Give this loose leaf method a chance, and a whole new beverage will introduce itself to you, providing you years of tea-drinking enjoyment!</p>

There are literally dozens of such exercises including many that are meant for other major muscle groups, but that can be modified to include a <strong>workout</strong> for your abdominal muscles. Here are just a few of the major abdominal emphasis exercises.</p>
<p>CRUNCHES</p>
<p>Crunches are done by lying on the floor either on a mat or not, with your arms crossed in front of your chest. Many people do crunches with the hands behind the head, but this can create lower back problems because of the pull on the head and neck. A slightly different position has the finger tips placed behind the ears, rather than crossed on the chest. It is important not to pull on the neck or on the ears for assistance in rising off the floor. Instead, suck the abdomen back toward the spine and inhale through the nose at the same time. Raise the shoulders toward the knees using only the muscles in the abdomen. The entire back should not be lifted from the floor, as this is likely to create back strain. No additional benefit to the abdomen is gained by raising the entire torso. The key part of the crunch is the initial flexing of the abdominal muscles as the shoulders are lifted off the floor. As the shoulders clear the floor, exhale through your mouth. Complete the exhalation with a gasp to expel the last of the air from the lungs as your shoulders stay clear of the floor. Lower the shoulders back to the point where the shoulder blade touches the ground while inhaling. It is important to maintain the proper breathing control and muscle flexing to get maximum benefit from crunches.</p>
<p>SIT UPS</p>
<p>Once again start in a position on the floor with your feet flat and your knees bent. The fingers should be placed behind the ears, or you can cross your arms on your chest. Slowly raise the entire back off the floor while inhaling deeply and exhale as you reverse the move. This exercise can be made more challenging in several ways. For instance, you can do sit ups from an incline with your head lower than your lower body. You can then add weights on the chest to lift while you are sitting up. Weights can become heavier on an incline bench. The next difficult step can be attained by holding the feet off the ground while doing sit ups or making a bicycle peddling motion while doing sit ups with your legs. These exercises may not be easy, but are very beneficial to the abdominal area.</p>
<p>LEG LIFTS</p>
<p>Leg lifts begin with the legs straight and the hands at your sides while lying on the floor. Lift both legs up at the same time without bending the knees until the legs are at a ninety degree angle or a close as possible. Not everyone is flexible enough to reach the ninety degree angle. Lower the legs as close as possible to the floor without actually touching and repeat several times. Increase the challenge of this exercise by adding weights to the legs while lifting them. Another challenging exercise for improving definition and musculature in the abdomen is to hang from a pull up bar while lifting both legs to a ninety-degree position. As with most other exercises, try to stay conscious of breathing while slowly doing the routines.</p>
<p>JACKKNIFE SIT UPS</p>
<p>This exercise begins by lying flat on the floor with the hands at your sides in order to provide better balance. At the same time you raise your knees, bring your torso up slowly till the face and knees meet. Return slowly to the original position while in full control of the movement. The jackknife name comes from the natural tendency of the legs to bend at the knee with the feet dropping to the hips presenting the shape of a jackknife. The difficulty level of this position can be increased by holding a weight between the feet while performing the sit ups.</p>
<p>V UPS</p>
<p>This exercise begins with you on your back on the floor with the arms extended over your head. Bring both legs and torso up at the same time without bending the knees or the arms. Keep the pace slow and steady and reach for your feet with your extended hands at the top of the arc. If possible, try to touch your feet, but this move can be tricky until your level of flexibility increases. As with other exercises, adding weight between the feet increases the difficulty level.</p>

Today&#8217;s more advanced procedures such as the Lap Band system are less invasive, safer, and just as effective for losing weight as the gastric bypass procedures done in years past. It can also be adjusted to help ensure future success without further surgical intervention. This has made weight loss surgery more attractive as an option for many.</p>
<p>Like any surgical procedure, Lap Band surgery is expensive. Some insurance policies will cover the cost under specific circumstances to help make this surgery available to those who would benefit from it. If you are a candidate for the Lap Band procedure, look at your <strong>health</strong> insurance policy where it discusses covered expenses. It should tell you if your policy excludes coverage for weight loss surgery or treatment or if it covers surgery under certain circumstances. Typically, for the costs to be covered there are conditions such as a requirement that one is 100 or more pounds overweight or that there are medical conditions associated with obesity like hypertension or type 2 diabetes. If the policy doesn&#8217;t list the conditions for which surgical treatment is covered, contact your insurance company to find out.</p>
<p>If your policy excludes coverage, there is still a possibility that an appeal can result in approval of part or all of the costs. A letter from your doctor recommending Lap Band surgery as effective treatment for life-threatening conditions you may be experiencing as a result of obesity may result in approval.</p>
