MALAYALAM MOVIE BEAUTIFUL INSPIRED FROM FRENCH FILM INTOUCHABLES

Beautiful is a South Indian Malayalam movie, directed by V. K. Prakash and written by Anoop Menon.The lead actors are Jayasurya, Anoop Menon and Meghana Raj . “Beautiful” narrates the friendship of a paraplegic and a musician. The film released on 2nd December 2011.

The writer of “Beautiful”, Anoop Menon stated in an interview that the film was inspired by a real life incident from his childhood.

But we have observed that French Film, “Intouchables” have many similarities in the thread, plot and story base with “Beautiful”. This was a superhit in France, directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano. The base story of “Intouchables” is developed by a true story discovered by these directors in a 2004 documentary film. The story is a friendship between Philippe, a rich quadriplegic and Driss, an unemployed young man. The film “Intouchables” was released in September 23, 2011, in Donostia-San Sebastian International Film Festival.

Review of Malayalam Movie Pranayam:

Pranayam, a possible inspiration from Australian film, Innocence, portraying love between Achutha Menon, Mathews and Gracy at their old age. The film offers a new sensation as it handles the traces of love at old age.

Director Blessy has become a big failure in developing this thread to a memorable movie. Including many Flash Back scenes became yet another mood irritating sequence as he did in his previous movies such as, Bhramaram. Blessy must understand that, flashback scenes are not always necessary to establish the story. I would have avoided all the flash back scenes of Achutha Menon, from the movie itself. Remember, how the flash back scenes irritated the mood of the movie in Bhramaram and Thanmathra.

Next biggest failure of the movie is the immature casting. Achutha Menon is not perfectly presented by Anupam Kher. Anupam Kher is a great artist from North India. I analyze his acting as an expressive one and can never be fit to a role that requires minute acting. Nedumudi Venu or Balachandra Menon could be the right choice for that character.

Another blunder from Blessy : As I have mentioned before, the film “Innocence” focuses on the sensational side of love. Blessy tried the same with appealing scenes from Jayaprada. A bath scene, erotic moments between Mathews and Gracey had totally destroyed the heart touching mood of the movie. Viewers may not be interested to see erotic scenes by those who are in old age. A touch, a sweet kiss, mild hug can express all the feelings in the relations.

After beginning from Achutha Menon, director is in a big confusion to focus on Gracey and Mathews or on Achutha Menon. Concentrating on Gracey would have given a more better outcome. Gracey’s war to the situations was not effectively displayed. A weak scripting resulted in this disaster.

Blessy, did a great job in creating beautiful songs. The songs and background score helped him to explode the feel of the movie to the viewers. Editing, done in a normal level, but appreciable. Cinematography is excellent, as in old Malayalam Movie “ Chemmeen”. Sea also became an important character in this movie, all credits goes to Cinematographer.

Acting by Mohanlal, Jayaprada, and Anoop Menon is slightly above average level. Mohanlal lost his minute acting due to the unwanted makeup that he carried in most scenes. A shaved head or a “fried” look after an operation, would have been more better for him.

As the movie proceeds, viewers comes to a conclusion that any of the three character will die at the end of the movie. This feel gets rooted when Gracey gets a loving attitude from her son.

As viewers expected, the movie ends in a cemetery scene. The place of this movie is certainly above many other Indian movies released recently. Unfortunately, something missing somewhere…

Movie cameras have camera lens, imager, image processing and video output as their major components.

Camera Lens:

Lenses are essential part of camera to adjust the output effects, or to provide special effects.

Types of lens:

Before going into the digital basics, lets see what are the major types of lens using in movie cameras

Macro or Close up lens: The lens that produces an image on the focal plane, used to image close-up very small subjects.

Zoom: A zoom lens helps to change the focal length within a shot or quickly between setups for shots. In professional cinematography, prime lens are often used due to the quality of the image when compared with Zoom lens.

Perspective Control Lens: These lens produces the feel of camera movement, which are often called as Shift lenses and tilt/shift lenses.

Swivel lenses : These lens rotate while attached to a camera body to give unique perspectives and camera angles.

Infrared lens : These lens produces special effects to some scenes by filtering colors.

Aerial Lens: These lens are used to shoot scenes well above the ground level.

Imagers in Digital movie camera:

The imager in a digital movie camera have a single or three semiconductor chips with light-sensitive cells (photocells). It transfers incident light into electric charge, and to create a color image, the incident light is split into its color components such as red, green, and blue during capture.

Image processing in Digital Camera:

The digital image processing chips will convert the raw data from the image sensor into a color-corrected image in a standard image file format.

Major techniques used in digital image processing include, pixelisation, linear filtering, principal components analysis, independent component analysis, hidden Markov models, anisotropic diffusion, partial differential equations, self-organizing maps, neural networks and wavelets.

Recently, one of my reader informed me about a similarity between an English Film, The Fugitive and a South Indian Malayalam Movie, Nirnayam.

The Fugitive is an English suspense thriller, starring Harrison Ford. This film directed by, Andrew Davis and the story is based on a television series of the same name. This film was released in 1993.

Nirnayam is a south Indian Malayalam movie, written and directed by Sangeeth Sivan, starring South Indian Superstar Mohanlal and Heera. I found many similarities between both of these, in characters, story and even in some camera angles. Readers are requested to watch both movies and comment here whether I'm right or no.

The Greatest Director

When many people hear the name Hollywood they think of mega movie stars. If they are old enough, they might even think of such all time greats as Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda or Katherine Hepburn. The current generation would probably think of names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruce Willis or Catherine Zeta Jones. But even though movie stars are what most people think of when they start thinking of films, there have been other greats in the film industry. Even though there were only a handful of directors that have achieved the status that is mostly reserved for the stars of films, there have been a few greats. Names like John Ford and Sam Peckinpah of western film fame come to mind. There was George Pal of SciFi fame and then there was the king of them all, Stanley Kubrick.

Maybe I am prejudiced toward Stanley Kubrick, but I must say that I thought most of his movies were works of genius. The last movie he worked on got panned but in all fairness to him, he died while it was being filmed and someone else finished it. Many film companies really didn't want him direct their films. Oh they knew that he was one of the greats but time is money and old Stanley would sometimes take years to complete a film. He just kept shooting scenes over and over until they came out the way he wanted, and he didn't care if it made producers mad or not. Well maybe he cared, but he never let that get in the way of his art. I guess he realized that his films would survive him and he wanted to be remember as the man who directed great films, not the man who directed fast ones.When we look at his films from 1957 we see a list of wonderful movies. In 1957 he directed the political war classic, Paths of Glory. This gut wrenching film stars a harassed colonel in the French Army in World War I, played by Kirk Douglas. His immediate commander is George Macready who is willing to sell out, to get that extra star on his shoulder. Douglas is more worried about his men and doesn't want to waste their lives in a fruitless attack on a position that can't be taken by a charge. The tension can be cut with a knife. The cast is superb as is the direction. Even though previous films by Kubrick were good, I believe this film started him on the path of greatness.

In 1960 Kubrick again was directing Kirk Douglas and an all star cast including Laurence Olivier and Tony Curtis in Spartacus. As most of us know this film was the story of the great slave revolt in Rome and how it was finally put down, but not before Spartacus almost destroyed the Roman Empire. Spartacus went across the Italian countryside freeing slaves as he came across them. He was a gladiator as were the people that initially escaped with him. They trained the slaves and eventually had a huge slave army that could fight quite well. Stanley Kubrick relished the battle scenes where thousands of extras fought tooth and nail. Many a person left the theatre, after the film finished, breathless and with a tear in their eye.

In 1962 he made Lolita. I wasn't crazy about this film that depicted a mature man in love with a teeny bopper who ruled him. But you couldn't fault the cast with the great James Mason and Sue Lyon. Shelley Winters also starred in the film. The directing was great but this just wasn't my type of movie.
Then came 1964 and Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. This unusual piece of work was talked about for years after it was made. Peter Sellers played three different characters. The film also featured George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden (the corrupt police captain in the Godfather Part I) and Slim Pickens. While all the actors were terrific, Slim Pickens stole the show. He was a B52 pilot charged with dropping a nuclear weapon. The weapon gets stuck in the bomb rack after the bomb bay doors are opened and Pickens, who is wearing his air force uniform and a large brimmed white cowboy hat, climbs on top of it to try and kick it loose. Unfortunately for him the bomb releases with him astride it. When he sees that his position is useless he rides the bomb down like a bronco and hits it on the side with his hat as the earth looms up and the bomb finally explodes. This was truly an unforgettable movie moment.

Four years went by then came the block buster, 2001 A Space Odyssey in 1968. While the cast of this film was not as strong as most of the others, it still rose to the position of epic adventure. Many people didn't like the ending or non ending, but that didn't stop it from becoming one of the most memorable SciFi films. The plot was simple. Aliens left an artifact on the moon and we build a ship, controlled by a computer that has identity problems and becomes a homicidal maniac, and set off for Jupiter.

A Clockwork Orange was directed in 1971. It is no doubt a sick, deranged, pornographic slice of future life but it is also one of the really great movies ever made. Malcolm McDowell is incredible as the gang leader of a futuristic English street gang that is ruthless and scared to death of him while retaining a simmering hate of him at the same time. The actors are all British and well seasoned. The story progresses through theft, terrible beatings, rape, and finally murder. Then comes prison where our young friend volunteers for an experiment to cure his criminal ways by making him violently ill every time he thinks of breaking the law. It doesn't end there my friends and you can't help but stay glued to the screen as the long story unfolds. I believe that this film was the highlight of McDowell's career.
Then came Barry Lyndon. Well they can't all be great. But in 1980 Kubrick made The Shinning. The Shinning was originally a novel by Stephen King. I guess you would call it a horror movie. Jack Nicholson plays a writer who is also the caretaker of a empty hotel who just starts to deteriorate It was a great performance and reminded me in some ways of Humphrey Bogart's performance in The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre, in 1948. Shelly Duvall played a convincing wife worried about her husbands mental health. Many a child hid under the blankets after watching this flick.

Kubrick then went on to direct Full Metal Jacket in 1987, luckily for R. Lee Ermey, who became famous as the ruthless drill sergeant in basic training. The cast included Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin and Vincent D'Onofrio. Stanley Kubrick had a way of getting every ounce of talent out of his actors and this film was no exception. The film is really two films in one. The first part is about basic training and relentless pressure put on an under achiever who finally cracks and the second part is about a soldier's life in the Vietnam conflict. Having been in the service myself, I can say with authority that the first part which depicts basic training is the most realistic film on the subject that I have ever seen. The film is scary in its absolute faithfulness to the conditions of the war and the suffering of the troops.
Eyes Wide Shut in came out in 1999. Not one of the greats and will soon be forgotten.

Most of Stanley Kubrick's films will be remembered and will be held up as paragons to which all other films will be compared to. Stanley you will be sorely missed, especially on those days where we have nothing to look at except something called Kung Pow Fist or the like.

Cult Films from Hollywood

Cult films, we have all heard the term, but, what exactly is a cult film? A cult film is one that has a special appeal to a certain segment of the population. Since only a segment of the population enjoys these films, the appeal to the general population is limited. The people that enjoy these films might enjoy seeing them over many times thus making them a financial success. Cult films are usually very different than the run of the mill movies. They are more likely to be off beat than not.

A very good example of this is one of the most successful cult movies of all times, The Rocky Horror Picture Show from 1975. For many people, there was nothing better to do on the weekend than go see the The Rocky Horror Picture Show. They saw it over and over. People used to mouth the words before the actors said them. Others shouted out the lines before they were said. The Rocky Horror Picture Show started out as a play in a small London Theater Then it became a smash hit as an international stage show, then it became a motion picture. All this happened within 18 months. I don't know how long it stayed in the movies but it must have been at least 10 years. It was usually shown at midnight and only on the weekends but still managed to make hundreds of millions of dollars.

Not all cult films were made as entertainment

In 1936 the government produced a documentary titled Reefer Madness. It was supposed to show the evils of smoking Marijuana This film is considered as campy entertainment. So what was this movie about that made it so popular to watch? A high school principal narrates the film which shows high school students smoking pot and going crazy to the point where murder is committed. In the background jazz is playing. The way the movie was constructed, some of the scenes look like something out of a comedy. When this was made, no one dreamed that it would become a cult favorite.

Plan 9 From Outer Space by Ed Wood is usually classified as the worst movie ever made. It is so bad that it is funny. Ed Wood was famous for never reshooting a scene no matter what happened. One famous scene has a zombie rising from a grave, but unfortunately all the tomb stones around him are cardboard and shake as he climbs out of the grave. Another problem that poor Ed Wood had was that his star died in the middle of the production, he was Bella Lugosi. He substituted his wife's chiropodist who went through the rest of the movie with his arm and cape over the bottom of his face. And who could forget the airplane scene where a pilot in a commercial plane is sitting in what is supposed to be a cockpit. The only problem is that it is a room with a black curtain behind him and the flight controls are just a piece of 2 X 4 with a piece of plywood shaped in a semi circle with two handles. Believe me when I tell you that no one has ever made anything this bad before or since. He ran out of money and needed to do a scene with a flying saucer so he took a hubcap and doused it with lighter fluid and set it on fire and threw it into the air and filmed it. This film is still watched today as a comedy.

Fast Times At Ridgemont High was a movie that was released in 1982. It is claimed that all events in the movie really happened and that all the characters in the movie were based on real people. The author of the book from which the movie came, actually spent a year in a high school with the permission of the school. People like this movie because it reminds them of their time spent in high school. This movie is one of the most popular of all the teen flicks of the 80s.
Eraserhead was a movie that took over 5 years to film. This was David Lynch's first full length movie. This was a weird movie folks. In a world gone crazy, Henry Spencer lives in a town where giant machines make noise, are spewing smoke and pollution. His building seems abandoned and he listens to the radiator where he can hear a woman singing. His lights flicker on and off and he keeps bowls of water in his dresser. He has a girl friend who bears his horrible looking child. The movie is depressing, yet some find it fascinating and like the idea of the unusual photography that was introduced into this 1977 movie. Some scenes have a sort of dreamy quality. Not many words are spoken and the script was only 22 pages long.

2001 A Space Odyssey featured the evil HAL, the onboard computer, that controlled a space ship going to investigate a monolith in orbit around Jupiter. Monoliths had been found on the Moon which prompted the expedition. There is something that wasn't counted on, however, and that is the fact that HAL has either became insane or has misinterpreted his instructions. He now thinks that he should kill the crew. This movie has a very quiet and mysterious quality. It is easy to see why it has become a cult favorite. It is all about intelligence, man's intelligence, animals intelligence and machine intelligence. An interesting aside, flights to the space station are run by Pan Am. This carrier went out of business but was one of the biggest at the time the movie was made in 1968.

There is no way to know in advance what movies will become cult favorites. Something just clicks with the population and people start talking about a certain film and then begin to see it more than once. Some people boasted that they had seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show, hundreds of times. I actually know someone who went every weekend for at least a year. So there you are, even a terrible movies like Plan 9 From Outer Space, that cost practically nothing to make, relatively speaking, can become a cult film and make money.

Hollywood Screw Ups And Free Movies

Copyrights and patents seem to be on everything. But I shouldn't talk since all of my articles are copyrighted. The only reason that I mention this is the fact that some artistic works don't have a copyright. Usually this is because something went wrong in the copyright process or they were meant to be free. I was stunned to find that there were Hollywood movies that are not copyrighted.

An example of this is the 1941 movie, Meet John Doe, which was directed by Frank Capra and produced by Warner Brothers. If you look it up on the Internet Archive you will see it is clearly marked Public Domain under the Creative Commons license. We are talking about a film staring such greats as Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, Edward Arnold and Walter Brennan. Someone really screwed up with this film.
Another big film that is in the Public Domain is Charade. We are talking about a Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn film. Someone forgot to put the required copyright notice in the released print. I bet he or she was looking for another job right after that. The film was released in 1963.
A film entitled Salt Of The Earth was produced in 1954. What made it unusual was the fact that it was made by people who were blacklisted. This usually happened because Senator McCarthy had accused them of being Communists. The film stared Wil Geer and Rosaura Revueltas. and is also in the Public Domain. I have no idea why this is.

Till The Clouds Roll By was released in 1946 and is the life story of famous composer Jerome Kern and is another film that fell into the Public Domain. It had quite a cast, June Allyson, Robert Walker, Lucille Bremer, Judy Garland, Lena Horne and Frank Sinatra.
Here is one of my favorite movies, I still can't believe it is Public Domain but it is listed as such by the Internet Archive. It is DOA. It was released in 1950 and starred Edmond O'Brien, Pamela Britton, Luther Adler, Neville Brand and Lawrence Dobkin. The story line is about a man trying to find the person that gave him a slow acting poison. If you are going to download any films make sure this is one of them, you won't be disappointed.
Then there are those films that you might never have gone to see anyway.

In 1956 Dementia a/k/a Daughter of Horror was released. It stared Richard Barron and Adrienne Barret. This is a shorty, running only 56 minutes. Public Domain at its worst, even if it wasn't meant to be Public Domain.
Radar Men From The Moon. Its a serial and is part one. But part one landed up as Public Domain. It is a Commando Cody serial for those of you old enough to remember who he was.

These films are too large for me to store them on my website for download but you can go to The Internet Archive and download these films. You should click on 'moving images' first then select 'feature films' as the search type. Next type in the name of the movie to download in the search box. You will get a few free movies out of this if you can download big files.

If you check you should also be able to find many free animations such as Superman. Enjoy yourself.

Haunted Hollywood

When you talk about haunting, if you do, then you have to include Hollywood stars. It seems that more dead stars are suspected of haunting places than people from any other walk of life. Many of these so-called ghosts, are said to be haunting busy places, such as hotels. I thought it might be fun to look into this a little more. Let’s start with one of my all time favorite stars, Marilyn Monroe
The Roosevelt Hotel is located at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, California. It is said that Marilyn has been seen quite a few times inside of a mirror there. The mirror is a full-length mirror that is located next to the elevators on the lower level, but the funny thing about this is that this mirror used to be in the room that Marilyn frequented. The room was poolside and was Suite 1200. Could the beautiful ghost of Marilyn be uneasy? One never knows, after all, there are many theories that state that Marilyn was murdered, is she trying to tell us something?

The Knickerbocker Hotel was built right in the heart of Hollywood. It wasn't a hotel when it opened, it was a luxury apartment building. In later years it became a famous hotel where the Hollywood stars would hang out. Its bar, the Renaissance Revival bar, was very popular with actors and actresses. Some actors lived at the hotel on a permanent basis. One famous actor was William Frawley. You may remember him from the "I Love Lucy" tv show, he was Fred Mertz. He died in the hotel in 1966 of a sudden heart attack. Marilyn Monroe spent her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio there. D.W. Griffith, the movie pioneer died sitting right under the huge crystal chandelier in the lobby.

When Harry Houdini was dying he told his wife that he would do everything he could to contact her from the beyond. Every year since his death on Halloween night until 1936 séances were conducted. The first one was held on the roof of the Knickerbocker hotel. His wife Bess Houdini, and some magicians and friends were present. They tried to contact Harry for over an hour and finally gave up, but as they did, out of nowhere, violent lightning and thunder began to boom and light up the sky scaring all the participants. Was this Harry Houdini letting everyone know he heard them? The Hotel is now a senior citizen home.
They say that Rudolph Valentino, the famous silent movie star, is the most traveled Hollywood ghost, showing up in many different places. There have been reports of the ghost of Valentino being seen in the company of the ghost of Marilyn Monroe. Is that rascal, who was a tremendous womanizer in real life, now one in the spiritual world? Well at least he has good taste. A woman said she encountered the ghost of Valentino while she was walking along a deserted beach. She went on to say further that he was wearing the same flowing robes that he wore in some of his movies. It is also said the Valentino's ghost can be seen at night walking through Hollywood Forever Cemetery, his final resting place. I can't help but remark that the cemetery seems NOT to be his FINAL RESTING place because he doesn't seem to be getting much rest according to many reports.

There is a restaurant named Sweet Lady Jane's in Los Angeles. Many patrons of this establishment have reported seeing the ghost of Orson Wells sitting at a table. Further more, he was wearing a black cape. Some say that sometimes you can smell the smoke from the particular brand of cigar that Wells smoked and even smell the brandy he enjoyed here. When he is spotted, he seems to be sitting at his favorite table.
Some say that Ozzie Nelson is still living in the home that he had when he died. I guess living is the wrong term to use in this case, maybe occupying is better. Ozzie was the first half of Ozzie and Harriet, one of America's favorite couples. Their show ran for years on tv. After Ozzie died, Harriet sold the house and immediately the new owners discovered that there were some very strange things going on there. Lights were turning themselves on and off, door opened and closed on their own, water faucets turned on and off without the help of any human hand and they constantly heard foot steps going up and down on the staircase.
The strange story of Frances Farmer has to be told in any Hollywood haunting article. Frances Farmer became a huge name in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s. By the time she was 27 she had made 18 films, stared in 3 Broadway plays and appeared in 32 major radio shows. At the top of her professional career she began to have problems in her personal life. She began to drink and take drugs for weight control. This caused her to act erratically on the set and she soon became a problem. She got into a fight in the Knickerbocker hotel and the police dragged her, half naked, through the lobby and she was later sent to the screen actor's sanitarium. She was given insulin treatments and they put her into shock. This went on for 7 years. She escaped once but was caught. It is said that the hospital staff was brutal to the patients. She was finally given a lobotomy and released. She was no longer the same person; the hospital stay and treatment had destroyed Frances Farmer. She died at 57 years old and was alone and broke. Many people say they have seen the ghost of Frances Farmer walking the halls of the Knickerbocker hotel and they feel that it will never be able to rest.

One of my friend send me this video to be uploaded in my blog and youtube.This video shows how Santhosh Pandit attacking media person.At first I thought its funny, later, ya some stuff in it too.

Santhosh Pandit is an Indian actor, director, composer, lyricist, producer, costumer, record producer, editor, and special effects director who works in the Malayalam film industry, who came to fame with a self-produced film and album titled 'Krishnanum Radhayum'. The soundtrack of the film, which included a song titled 'Rathri Shubharathri', was released toYoutube in May 2011, and as of August 12, 2011 has gained close to 3,000,000 views. He became an overnight Youtube sensation, inspiring hundreds of parodies, and response videos. The main song in particular, has attracted attention due to its abject failure to entertain, which critics and laypeople remarked as 'the worst song in Malayalam'. Other videos such as professional interviews of the person, as well as an abusive telephone exchange by Pandit with young men, have garnered close to 500,000 views.

Other points of criticism about the videos include a sexist, and sexually abusive treatment of the main female lead, as well as amateur editing, and production qualities. The film in question is multilingual, having been shot in Tamil, Hindi, and English. It was scheduled to be released in the beginning of May, though it was shifted to August, and then later shifted indefinitely due to lack of takers. Pandit is also planning to produce other films namely, Kalidasan Kavithayezhuthukayanu (2011) and Jithu Bhai Enna Chocolate Bhai (2011) where he shall take on the same duties. He was recently cited as an example of viral media in emerging markets in a thesis submitted to Anna University. He has been called the Rebecca Black of Kerala, and comes in the recent line of harshly criticized vanity productions which have inundated the industry due to the decreasing production costs as a result of new technologies, some of which like the album 'Silsila' by singer Hariharan, also received similar criticism and fame.

UNLOCKED SECRETS OF SPECIAL EFFECTS IN TAMIL CINEMA MUDHALVAN AND BOYS

Mudhalvan and Boys are two super hit Indian movies language in Tamil and later remake to many other language as well.The specialty of these two movies were its special effects and outstanding camera works. Both films were directed by Tamil Director Shankar. In this post I would like to explain a little bit about a special scene in which the camera orbits around the hero whose movement is captured as still. In the film, “Boys” this technique was used in a song starting “Ale Ale”. In this song many scenes were packed with this technique.

Also, you can see in the Tamil film, “Mudhalvan” and in Hindi film “Nayak”, an action scene in which the hero fights with villains in muddy water for almost 2 minutes. This scene is also stuffed with similar kind of technique.

HOW TO CREATE CAMERA ORBIT AROUND STILL OBJECTS EFFECT

Creating such a scene is not an easy technique. If you wish to create a specific action to be shot as camera orbiting around the actors, then you need multiple still cameras surrounding the subject. The cameras are fired sequentially, or all at the same time, depending on the desired effect you wish to achieve. Individual or single frames from each camera are then sequentially or path wise arranged and displayed consecutively to produce an orbiting viewpoint of an action frozen in time.

Depending on the number of camera, path in which they are arranged to take the shot, and frames per second will determine the perfection for this effect. While fixing the frame from individual shots, the camera image on opposite side can be filtered out by using color filter. Recently computer software are available to produce virtual images to produce this effect. Due to the unaffordable cost, directors may choose using real set of still cameras to attain this effect. Try Nikon. This is not a recommendation, but as a pointer to perform some experiments back at home.

Just watch the song “Ale Ale” in Youtube and feel the chill of this special effect.

Here is explained how the above given song was made beautiful with this effect. Below given shots from 11 still cameras that took the image of throwing water between each other, at the same time but from different angles. In this shot, all the cameras are fixed below the knee length. Each image is from each camera and the final image is the continuation image which is captured in normal Movie camera. From this image, the scene will proceed as usual.

Do you wonder what I am going to write about? Its all about some awesome scenes with outstanding camera movements. I didn't include technically stuffed items like Terminator series, Transformer etc. Many movie lovers admit that these are wonderful scenes. MALAYALAM FILM COCKTAIL ADAPTED FROM ENGLISH MOVIE BUTTERFLY ON A WHEEL

Cocktail is a 2010 Indian Malayalam thriller film edited and directed by Arun Kumar, screenplay by Shyam Menon and dialogue written by Anoop Menon. The film stars Jayasurya, Anoop Menon, Samvrutha Sunil, Fahad Fazil, Innocent, The film portrays the life of Ravi Abraham (Anoop Menon), Parvathy (Samvrutha Sunil) and daughter Ammu.

This film have many similarities with English movie Butterfly on a Wheel which is a 2007 Canadian thriller film directed by Mike Barker, co-produced and written by William Morrissey. Starring Pierce Brosnan, Gerard Butler, and Maria Bello. It is really shameful that a debut film of an Indian director is an adaptation of an English Film. Who really cheated him? The producer or the story / script writers?

It is highly advisable that before announcing himself as a movie director, one must try to watch many other language films as possible. This will give a new level of thinking or at least, can avoid such shame.

ART OF ACTING

According to my experience, acting is one of the easiest step in the process of making a cinema. I am expressing this opinion based on modern cinema, where latest technologies are widely implemented. There was a time in which, an actor in cinema had to put more effort in studying dialogues, fight sequences, and more physical strain than in modern cinema. Now a days, a good director can transform bad fight sequences to best or can turn a bad acting performance by an actor to an appreciable one, using modern techniques during final cut. On shooting stage, arranging the camera angle or individual cut shots or birds eye shot, aim at using in editing lab or in special effects could save the time, and improve the totality of a scene.

Different types of acting:

Acting is the way of expressing a character sewed by various emotions. The types of acting in modern cinema have a lot of difference than traditional stage acting. The complete performance of an actor alone cannot save a shot. Dubbing, Camera angle, Makeup, Editing, Special effects, Character identity could make special impact on the performance of an actor presented in a cinema. If any of these factors fail to support an actor, then the end result of that performance will be poor. I would like to classify types of acting as

1. Minute acting in which an actor expresses his emotions in minimal facial expressions. Usually this acting supports close-up shots.

2. Explosive acting, in which an actor expresses an emotion in a bombarding way. This is a copied stuff from stage acting.

3. Centered acting, in which the actor develops an emotion slowly and focusing himself in the shot. Directors must take care to complete this shot in a single take.

4. Mannered acting, in which the actor emote himself using his body language and mannerisms.

5. Synchronized acting, in which the emotions are synchronized with other actors within or out of the frame.

Factors contributing acting:

There are many intrinsic factors contributing to best performance are basic knowledge of emotions, & visual impact of shots, dialogue delivery & timing, body language, rhythm with other actors in the performance and level of confidence in transition to the character.

The extrinsic factors include the imagination of the director, the strength of the story & dialogues, shot selection, mood of the total system, and other motivating factors such as money, fame, awards etc.

INFLUENCE OF CINEMATOGRAPHY IN ACTING

Gaining boost from the stage play, the cinema grown to a mesmeric level of audience attraction. The positive punch behind Cinema is the enormous support by the technical factors, like, camera angle, lighting, makeup, editing etc. When comparing stage performance, these technical factors contribute much support to the level of acting in Cinema. A best cinematographer or a director, or even a dubbing artist can cover the negatives of acting in a sequence to some extent. This broke the parameters of explaining the art of acting in cinema. In this post and coming posts, I would like to explain about some factors to be noted about the level of acting, that can be useful for beginners.

The traditional way of expressing an expression or rasa or an emotion, is quite a bit changed after the introduction of modern technology. What ever old theories were formulated the acting, now I can structure it out based on, cinematography, voice mixing (dubbing), and makeup. A good director can make a good shot out of an actor using these three factors. So these three factors becomes very important for an actor or actress to establish their own presence in the shot.

Influence of cinematography in acting:

Before starting to understand how cinematography or camera works, influences acting, an actor must identify all potential angles of himself based of various rasa or expressions. Usually expression are categorized into lovely, egoistic, pathetic, humorous, exclamatory, horrorful, ugly, anger, peaceful, sorrowful, and neutral emotions. The actor can select any one of these emotions that suits to the story, scene and shot. Even though the actor express the best emotion in its best way, if the camera didn't copy it to film, then the whole performance can be considered as negative. There are many reasons for such a failure of capturing the emotions of an actor. It can be the inexperience of a director, or a cinematographer to identify the best expressive angle in the shot.While shooting, I suggest the actors to take one or two rehearsals to find the best expressive angles for all actors present in the shot. Later while real shooting, the cinematographer absorbs the sequence as we decided earlier. The factors that come to consideration are, cameral angle, lens to be used, the filter, materials to be present in the scene (like chair, table etc) and their position, voiced to be included, and position of actors. I am not favoring free movement by actors, as it will disturb the capturing sequence by cinematographer.

As per my belief, an actor or an actress must have fair idea about the field size and camera angle. They must ask the director or cinematographer about the nature of the shot, such as, long shot (often used as an establishing shot), full shot (also figure shot, complete view, or medium long shot), medium shot, the close-up, extreme long shot (used for epic views and panoramas), American shot (also 3/4 shot), Italian shot (Extreme Close Up (ECU or XCU), where only a person's eyes are visible), medium close up (between medium and close up), lean-in shot or lean-out shot.

If an actor have an understanding about the camera angles such as aerial shot, bird's eye shot (sometimes performed as a crane shot), low-angle shot, over the shoulder shot, point of view shot, reverse shot, two shot, multiple shot, then he or she can select their own position and mode of expression. If the camera angle is aerial shot, then the actor must not waste his time by giving more expressions on his face but can concentrate more on the body movement and co-ordination of other actors in the scene.

My suggestion is that, a director also must take care to explain to the selected members of his crew, about the specialties of a shot that he is planning to do right before the shooting of that shot starts.The director must describe the camera angle, field size, preferable lighting area, mood of the shot, expected expression from prime characters etc. At that time, the actor must do some calculations inside his mind about own peculiarities. For example, while taking a shot bubbling with mood of romance, then actor must identify the angle in which he looks more handsome and effective is expressing the romantic mood. ( A self rehearsal at home, or self shoot could help an actor to identify his own best angles related to various emotions). I will explain the methods of using various expressions to develop an emotion in coming articles.

Cinematographer is responsible for the technical aspects of the images such as lighting, lens choices, composition, exposure, filtration, film selection. So an actor must give special respect and attention to the words of a Cinematographer also.
