I find it fascinating how important Facebook has become in todays society . The Facebook like button is an important innovation that it deserves to be. More and more people are turning towards facebook and creating pages to share their business and build a closer relationship with Facebook users . The idea behind ‘like’ marketing is simple. The more the likes, the better you are doing . Facebook also provides a nifty little likebox widget that can be customized to display your facebook page current fans on any webpage, but the widget comes with an ugly black/blue border that cannot be overridden with css because it is in a Facebook iframe.

The fix :

This tutorial will show you a trick to hide the border around the Facebook Like Box. It takes advantage of negative margins and the overflow property of CSS to hide the border of the Facebook Like Box under a container div.

This is what the Facebook Like Box looks if you apply the plugin code directly to your site without any modification. Note that I set “header” to false so it does not display the text “Find us on Facebook”.

First, wrap the plugin code in two divs. Here I called the outer div “facebook-like-box” and the inner div “inner”.

Max Payne 3 is an upcoming third-person shooter video game in the Max Payne franchise published by Rockstar Games Max Payne returns in the sequel to Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne! Set 8 years after the previous game, Max Payne 3 is set in Sao Paulo, Brazil where world weary Max has been double crossed and is looking out for a way to clear his name. Originally set to release in 2009, Max Payne 3 is scheduled to be released in March. All the signature traits that made the previous two games famous like the visceral action, gritty story and dark setting are set to make a return. Max Payne’s trademark bullet time makes a return as well.

Halo 4

The Halo series is one of gaming’s biggest and most loved franchises. It is an upcoming video game and the eighth installment in the Halo franchise . Halo 4 is intended to be the first of a new trilogy of Halo series games, named the “Reclaimer Trilogy”. Whereas the previous Halo games were developed by Bungie, Halo 4 will be developed by 343 Industries. The game continues some time after the ending of Halo 3, and marks the return of the Master Chief as the main protagonist. Cortana will also appear in the game. The game is set for release in Holiday 2012.  Developers promised this new trilogy will be more epic than the previous installments and will have a much darker storyline.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria

I think World of Warcraft has changed .Mists of Pandaria will have a host of new features and content, including a brand new playable race called the Pandaren and class, Monk. The new expansion pack for the largest and most popular MMORPG was announced on October 21, 2011.  Set on an island lost in time until now, Mists of Pandaria extensively features Asian themed environments and instances. .

Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 3 is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts  .One of the biggest releases of the year, Mass Effect 3 is the final chapter in the epic action RPG from the stalwarts at BioWare. Commander Shepard’s saga comes to an end and decisions made in the previous two games will influence the storyline in this chapter as well. Mass Effect 3 also introduces multiplayer to the franchise along with fine tuning of the amazing graphics engine and gameplay. This could be one of the biggest games of the year!

Prototype 2

Prototype 2 is a free-roaming third person action game like its prequel Prototype. It features a new protagonist called Sergeant James Heller who is out for revenge after the death of his family caused by the rampage by Alex Mercer, protagonist of the previous game. Like the previous game, James Heller will be able to shapeshift and transform due to the Blacklight virus. Prototype 2 lands on Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on April 24.

BioShock Infinite

2007?s BioShock was one of the most critically and commercially successful games of the decade. The blend of  immersive environments, great graphics, morality based gameplay, customizable offenses and objectivist philosophy was a breath of fresh air in the crowded first person shooter genre. After BioShock 2,  also a well received game, Irrational Games is developing a new entry in the series, BioShock Infinite. Unlike the underwater utopia gone wrong setting of the previous two games, BioShock Infinite is set on a city in the clouds on the brink of collapse called Columbia. It features similar gameplay elements from its predecessors and we’re not complaining, it’s a tried and tested formula that doesn’t get old. BioShock Infinite is set to be released June 1.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike needs no introduction. To the millions of CS players all over the world, the new entry into the series, Global Offensive promises to go back to the roots of the original that made it so popular. Valve aims to satisfy veterans of the series with old school gameplay and welcome new entrants with a more forgiving multiplayer casual mode. Featuring updated graphics, maps and weapons, Global Offensive seems like a winner already!

DotA 2

DotA 2 is an update of the hugely popular multiplayer map DotA on Warcraft III. It is being developed by Valve Corporation as a stand alone product and has the main developer of the original map, Icefrog, on board. Needless to say, we can expect it to be true to its roots and is shaping up to be as fun as its predecessor. DotA 2 features most of the heroes, items and skills from DotA along with new maps, modes and a completely new art style and graphics engine. Currently under closed beta phase, DotA 2 is expected to release in the first half of 2012.

Prey 2

Prey, released in 2006 was one of the most delayed games in the history of well, gaming. Going through numerous overhauls and changes, it was doubtful if it would ever see the light of day. Finally it released in 2006 and surprisingly was a great shooter with innovative elements like gravity changes, living and customizable weapons and spirit walking. 6 years later and Prey 2 is set to be released in 2012. It features a new protagonist who was knocked unconscious after a short fight with aliens during the beginning of the first game who wakes up on an alien world. He becomes a bounty hunter and presumes he is the last human on the alien world called Exodus. Furthermore, he doesn’t remember anything from the years between his abduction and arrival at Exodus. Then he meets the protagonist of the first game and sets out to recollect his memories. Sure seems like a cracker of a storyline!

Popularity on Facebook is mainly based on the Number of Friends with whom he/she shares everything or anything.  I pruned about 60 of the people I didn’t actually know in real life from my ~300 facebook friends a while ago, definitely wouldn’t have done it if they had had an easy way of seeing that I had removed them . But what if you find your friend count to be less than before ? Now Facebook won’t notify you when people remove you from their friends list but if you would still want to have that data, and there are many web tools that can help reveal the names of your ex-friends.

The idea is simple. You connect your Facebook account and all the Facebook profiles that are listed as your Facebook friends are fetched and you can get every day alerts if one or more connections have gone missing from your Facebook friends list. There are two possible outcomes – either the person has quit Facebook altogether or they have unfriended you for some reason. You wont receive any notification of unfriending on facebook. The only way you can find out is if you go look at your profile and see the “Add as Friend” option.But even this fails if you are added to Block list .

This is a Facebook app but i dont think it will have a long life as Facebook had banned a similar app earlier .

The first time you launch the application, your friend list is saved. The next time you launch the application, it will compare your friend list from before.

First Impressions of Facebook Timeline

Its kind of hybrid between a visual blog and online scrapbook, somewhat inspired from twitter and old MySpace .It’s more a rearrangement and different display of the information that’s already in Facebook in a new User Interface . You can add more detailed information that you might not have had before, like your photos from childhood  ,  birthday (with year),  and other memories that could fill in the gap between the day you were born and the beginning of your life on Facebook.

Cover image

I find it funny that Facebook has named the giant leading image on any Timeline page the “cover image.” It’s a large splash photo that you can change at any time, but is not your profile picture, which I like. You can choose any photo to represent you or your life without it being the picture people see of you. This is a welcomed addition. I get the sense that many people want to make their profile picture some image the captures how they’re feeling or what they’re excited to share at the moment, rather than a picture of their face. I have no problem with creative profile pictures, but there actually is a breakdown in the mechanics of Facebook when you can’t identify your friends by sight . Many people will now upload some nonsense or scenery image which is a FAIL . Even i find it irritating and painful to stare blankly at pictures of quotes, movie posters of twilight , groups of people on a stage, and cartoon images of spongebob .

It is good to use 850px wide and 315px height high quality resolution image which will fit perfectly.

Minimum width of Cover Photo
The Cover photo must be atleast 399 pixels wide, the image below 399 pixels wide will show error.

If you try a larger image to put on your cover page than Facebook will give and option to crop that image.

The dimensions for the cover image are very unconventional, and I found that I didn’t like how most of my images looked when I uploaded them without manipulating their size and cropping them significantly. It’s also a large space to fill, so higher-resolution photos work best. You can drag an image around the viewer space .

History

Status updates, photos, friendships made, as well as job history, marital status changes, and other information that you’ve recorded in your profile ! Yes , even Relationship Status updates can be seen once someone decides to spy your facebook life . I can say facebook has made stalking easier  Timeline solves one big Facebook issue: the matter of it being too in-the-moment. Timeline is structured in a way that lets you more easily scan and look for the information you want.

Timeline creates a record of events, changes, and other activity, and makes it easier to read or comment on slightly outdated (or even very old) activity by person and time, so if other factors are what trigger your memory, it’s still quite difficult to find older posts.

My Thoughts

I must admit that I dint like playing with Facebook Timeline . I customized old Facebook by adding 5 creative banners of tagged pics but it took only 1 minute to customize my Facebook cover thanks to already available tools to pick and update your FB cover ! However with Timeline, you face a huge envelope of data that you have already created, and now you are tasked with making sure it’s all appropriate and what you want the world to see. If it isn’t then you better waster an hour or half to make set it right .You can change  permissions at any time, deleting or hiding images you don’t want everyone to see, rotating out the cover image, and so forth.

Tricks and Tips for your Cover Pic

• I think you should choose a photo that represents your personality.Your cover is the first impression of you a user will get when he or she goes to your page. As you sort through your photos, reckon about which snapshots best represent you, whether its an image of your family or  an abstract. Humor is always welcome, and for advanced Timeline users,there are ways to make jokes about the actual design of the page .
• Remember ! Your profile photo should be of you  ; your cover photo can be anything.
• Try Editing your photos. The cover is a huge space, so an HD photo will look dashing .Try cropping/manipulating your image to make it look fantastic. You can drag your image around the viewer space, but you cannot crop or resize from within Facebook.
• Take help of Web sites that will help you design your own cover. They give you the tools to design a creative cover with your own metaphors. .
• Last and super suggestion – Be creative. Don’t be generic

I think that Timeline is definitely an additional characteristic which also helps Facebook differentiate itself through rival social networking sites like  twitter and Google+ .
