Le 20 avril 2005, en Equateur, une révolution populaire renverse le président Lucio Gutiérrez et met au pouvoir un gouvernement mené par l’ex vice président, Alfredo Palacio.
Gutiérrez, après sa dissolution illégitime de la cour suprême de justice en décembre 2004, met le feu au poudre en avril en autorisant le retour de son prédécesseur, Bucaram, accusé de corruption et réfugié au Panama.
Quelques mois auparavant, une agitation populaire similaire secouait la Bolivie.
L’Amérique du sud est coutumière de ces brusques bouffées de chaleur politique. Tellement même que ces événements ne font plus recette dans les médias occidentaux. Quel intérêt en effet de disserter sur un énième président latino qui ne sera même plus là dans deux ans ?
Ce désintérêt pourrait toucher les habitants eux même. Et pourtant non. A chaque fois c’est le même enthousiasme, les mêmes espoirs, la volonté jusqu’à la violence. Comme une utopie qu’on ne voudrait pas malmener. Puis le quotidien reprend le dessus. Mais restent les braises, toujours vivaces.
Témoin de la révolution d’avril en Equateur, ce mélange de volonté, d’utopie des personnes et d’une réalité au fatalisme décevant et répété m’a frappé. Puis dérangé et interrogé.
Désinformation, abus de pouvoir, capitalisme roi et bien d’autres, ce fatalisme des faits, moins visible et plus sournois, existe également dans nos démocraties occidentales. Ne devrions nous pas déployer la même énergie pour le combattre ?
Afin de partager ce doute et cette réflexion, j’ai choisi de réaliser le journal de cette révolution.
J’ai donc pris comme référence le jour du départ du président Gutiérrez pour suivre l’emballement des événements qui le précèdent puis le déroulement des jours qui le suivent.
Contrairement aux médias concentrés sur la capitale, lieux de tous les excès, je me suis attaché à parcourir les routes pendant cette période afin de comprendre le ressenti du pays dans son ensemble.
Enfin, car tout n’est pas révolution, j’ai complété ce travail par des instants sans lien direct avec la politique mais qui, par leur atmosphère, affinent le portrait de ce pays dans ces instants si particuliers.
