Securely strapped to his handler and with a muzzle to stop him damaging his mouth on landing he plunged 10,000ft from a transporter plane.

“It’s something he does a lot and he’s very comfortable with. He has a much cooler head then most recruits,” said one operation trooper.

Far from panicking at the experience of hurling themselves out of a plane at 10,000ft, the Austrians’ Belgian Shepherd dogs appear to be perfectly calm both before and during the jump.

That’s quite kind of you. I enyoy your answers.

I’ll take this literally, and answer with two real places, but I sadly don’t think I can answer this without an air of “obnoxious traveller”.

1. Mrs Macquarie’s Chair in Sydney. The best place to see the most beautiful harbour in the world, it’s always the first place I go whenever I’m in Sydney. For some reason it’s the most calming and serene spot despite the busloads of tourists that pile off, take their photo and pile back on.

2. Ta Prohm at Angkor in Cambodia. Going to Angkor was a lifetime dream of mine, it’s the classic Indiana Jones story, ancient temple city that was lost to the jungle and history, only to be found by an explorer following a local myth. It was where some of Tomb Raider was filmed (in fact some of the dolly tracks are now walkways, and it’s the only reason there’s cellphone coverage).

Anyway, out of the main temple area there’s this smaller temple called Ta Prohm, it’s one of the more … lost … temples. It’s still in the middle of thick jungle, with a single path in and out, huge banyan trees grow out of the temple like they’re the only thing holding it together and there’s silence. Well not complete silence, there’s the quite murmur of the kids selling trinkets, but it’s quiet, serene, and you can close your eyes and imagine that it’s still the same sanctuary it always was.

Even today (and it’s been five years since I was there) I can close my eyes, feel the humidity, hear the jungle, smell the dust and just be … calmed.
