As many parents may know it is getting harder and harder to keep track of everything our kids do online. Being a parent myself one of my biggest fears is having them fall into the wrong crowed online and be bullied or even worse!!!!! My main goal as a mom is to keep my kids safe so when Lisa, of Mompreneur Mogul brought this to my attention she wrote a whole post on it and is doing a giveaway so I asked if I could share it with all of you, see giveaway below!

Lisa told me all about this site called uKnowKids, at first I thought it was just another spyware product that blocks certain sites but it was SO much more! You can keep track of everything your child does on the internet! Here are just a few things it does:

It finds their online social profiles even if they were hidden
You can then monitor activity on all of those sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc...)I mean you can see who they become friends with that persons age and location so you know who they are talking to, their status updates, direct messages they send, and more.
Monitor how your child is using their smartphone. Monitor social activity, calls and text.
Locate your child through via mobile phone or social network activity. So when your child logs in online outside of the home you can see where they are logging in from.
View private and public photos of your child

And these are just a few things! I know there is a fine line between privacy and protection but this is something that can be used as a monitoring tool to keep our kids safe and I think its a great idea!

Now that Blogger has switched to the new interface they have removed the "upload" option which was how most would upload new, custom/ premade blog templates. You CAN still upload custom blog templates to Blogger and it is very easy!

With Blogger switching to the new interface they have removed the "upload" option which was how most would upload new, custom blog templates. You CAN still upload custom blog templates to Blogger and it is very easy!

If you are looking to upload one of our custom blog templates or one of our free templates/ premade blog designs on the new Blogger interface follow the instructions below:

1)Find or purchase the template you would like to install. Once you have decided on a custom blog template/premade design you will need to download the template link. Free template download links are found on the page of the design. $10.00 Custom template codes will be received once your payment is made.

2) Next a box will pop up asking you what you would like to do with the file. Click Save File and then press ok.

3) Next you will go to the template page of your blog. If you click design in the upper right hand corner it will bring you directly to this page. On this page find "backup/restore" in the upper right hand corner and click that button.

4) Click Browse" to locate the custom template file you downloaded in step #1 once you find it click on it and then hit "ok"

Click "View Blog" to view your new design!

Follow Blogaholic Designs on Linky Followers

Well with the news that GFC has gone away for non Blogger blogs we have decided to add another way for readers to follow! Linky Followers as many of you may know is similar to GFC in that it serves as a way to follow other blogs. We know we have many non-Blogger followers and we want everyone to be able to stay updated!

We did also add a Google+ account but still am working my way around that.

The trouble with both Google+ and Linky Followers is you have to go in and manually update when you have a new post which can get to be a lot of work with GFC it automatically updated in your feed and you could see new posts that your followers posted.

I did take some time to finally look around Linky Followers and it seems pretty cool! You can do a lot of things you could not do with GFC. You can create groups and put the blogs you follow into groups, you can choose which groups post updates you want in the scrolling widget on your dashboard, you can make a cute little message for when viewers scroll over your name but what I like best is it is VERY easy to use.

So be sure to follow to stay updated!

Don't forget you can also sign up to receive posts by e-mail and don't worry we only post a few times a week if that most of the time it is a few times a month so you will not be bombarded with emails you will just get the good updates when we have new items, tutorials, etc...

Goodbye Facebook Landing Page - Hello Timeline!

Well I must admit I am not yet entirely sold on the new Facebook Timeline layout, especially as a designer I know many people loved having a landing page for their business or blog but with the new Timeline layout the rules are a bit different. If you previously had a landing page or wanted a landing page here is what has changed:

1) You can still create a landing page, though it won't be as of much assistance to your company or blog as it used to be. By default anyone who likes your page will automatically be directed to the timeline. What does that mean? That means if you have a button/badge/widget linked to your landing page people who already like your page will get redirected and will no longer "land" on that page. (View Facebook info on this) To prevent this you simply need to link your button/badge/widget to your landing page url. HOWEVER, the layout of the landing page is different (see #2)

2) Your landing page will no longer have the tabs across the left side. This means that there is no way for viewers to easily check out other parts of your Facebook page like your wall "Timeline" it is pretty much a blank page and no longer a page "within" your Facebook set up. This is not very productive for gaining new followers. Word is Facebook never really liked the idea of landing pages so they pretty much are trying to bland them out and it's working!

3) Now in place of the landing page you must count on your "Facebook Cover" to promote your company BUT there are some strict rules! As stated by Facebook you can not include on your Facebook cover:

Price or purchase information, such as "40% off" or "Download it at our website"
Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page's About section
References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
Calls to action, such as "Get it now" or "Tell your friends"

You can view the full info here. So there you have it, be looking for some cool Facebook covers I know many people have already jumped on the design aspect of that and not to worry we too will eventually offer Facebook covers as well!

If your Facebook account has not yet changed over to the new Timeline design they should be automatically switching you over very soon (by the end of March), you have 7 days before it gos live to all to get all your permissions in order and clean up your new design I hear it's a mess for those with tons of pictures and status updates.

New Custom Design Prftfolio!

Well we finished up the custom blog design portfolio yesterday and now we are working on re-structuring the custom design, ordering process, prices and packages which is turning out to be more of a overhaul than expected!

Re-designing the portfolio section of the site has been something I have wanted to re-do forever so stop by and check it out. It is now sectioned off by blog design style so you can browse scrapbook style blog designs, illustrated blog designs, etc... We also added other custom design options that have been designed like specialty buttons, social media icons, etc....

Latest Custom Blog Designs!

It has been a busy December! So busy in fact that I was not able to make any new Christmas templates, buttons, or backgrounds. I really wanted to use my new Christmas kit but I guess it will have to wait until next Christmas! I do however, have tons of custom blog designs to share with you.

The 1st custom blog design is actually a re-design! I did a custom blog design for Traci when I 1st starting out doing custom blog design. It was one that I was very attached to as it got my name out there and I spent soooooo many hours working on it that it taught me so much. I must admit I was a little heart broken when she contacted me about a makeover but she wanted something that was more fitting to her personality and it had been a few years since her original design. Once I finished I was actually quite excited as the new design fits her perfectly and is really cute!

The next custom blog design was another makeover. I did the original design a few years ago and they were looking for an update something simple and stylish!

This custom blog design was for the blog Globicate. It turned out really cute, she wanted an earthy feel and it just all came together so perfectly. I LOVE the custom icons!

This was a really fun custom blog design. It's my very 1st custom travel blog design and it was so much fun to do! I love the header/background combo and again the icons-too cute! Be sure to also check out the matching Twitter background and Facebook landing page!

I love the city background on this next custom blog design. It's always fun to do a wider layout also while still keeping a really great design!

This next custom blog design turned out to be just too cute! The colors, the kit and the layout, all together it just came together perfectly! It also has the sidebar split layout which I love!

And just today I finished up a blog design that is truly amazing- the colors are absolutely beautiful and the custom icons are are so fun!

How To Set Up Links For A Custom Nav Bar

I have finally made a tutorial for how to set up links for a custom navigation bar, and even more impressive- it's a video tutorial- my very 1st video tutorial but I knew it would be much easier than explaining how to get the nav bar links set up.

I always tell me clients the hardest part of custom design is explaining how to get your navigation bar links ready and sent over to me. Here's why- with the basic Blogger nav bar you create pages and it makes the nav bar automatically. Well, with a custom nav more you have more and less freedom. More freedom because you can add items in your nav bar that you can not with the basic Blogger nav bar, for example you can link to post labels which is one of the things I cover in the titorial- less freedom because you can't go in and change items in the nav bar as easily as you can with a basic Blogger nav bar.

So if you have ordered a blog package that comes with a custom navigation bar this video tutorial will cover how to set up the links so that you can send them to me. It will also cover what a nav bar is, how to give your posts labels, and how to create pages.

I was thinking about going in and adding "grab" code to the smaller prints to make it easier to add to blog posts for those of you who want to use the prints for posts on days you don't really feel like blogging or don't have the time to write a post, any thoughts?????

How To Remove Your Old Blog Header For New Template

If you have added a custom blog template or free blog template you may notice that once you have installed the design you have 2 headers showing up. Your old blog header or title in addition to the new blog header that comes with your custom or free premade blog template. So today I will show you how to remove your old header or blog title so that only the new header is showing on your template.

You will have to access the html of your blog to edit this bit I promise it's VERY easy. Make sure you have installed the new blog template first or else you will have to repeat all of the following.

I did the tutorial mostly in images but feel free to ask if you have any questions:

You will need to find a small piece of code within the html. Simply hit "ctrl" "f" on your keyboard and a small box will pop up, enter and it will bring you right to the code.

This week I have a smaller print, not big enough for a frame but still big enough for a post if you wanted to use it in your sidebar it would need to be a bit shrunk up a bit. Latest Custom Blog Designs!

Well it's been a busy last few weeks but I wanted to share the custom blog designs I finished up last week. I have been so busy with BSN, setting up advertising, adding and changing things here on my blog, and of course all that life consists of that I haven't had time to stop and add images to my portfolio (which also needs an update)!

So last week I finished up 2 really adorable custom blog designs, Mama Moo and Toothpaste On Your T-Shirt, both used scrapbook kits which I love using because they give you so many design options and I think both ended up really adorable!

Also, don't forget the custom premade template shop is now open and is a great alternative to custom blog design- great design for a great price and I will have more up soon!

Loving My New Nivo Slider

I have been wanting to add a slider to my blog forever but I never found one I loved or that was compatible with Blogger. Finally, I found the Nivo slider and I loved it- I found a few tutorials on how to install the Nivo slider on Blogger but none worked. So knowing how bad I wanted it I shot over an email to Paul at Spice Up Your Blog, a friend who knows just about everything there is to know about Blogger! I'm sure I have mentioned him a few times before as he is defiantly my go to guy for all tech things that have to do with Blogger!

Within a few days he had a tutorial up on how to add the Nivo slider to Blogger, actually he had more than one he posted a few tutorials on different styles- lOVE IT! AND it works, I knew if I asked him he would get it to work on Blogger. Most of what I know on the tech side of blogging I learned from him and all of his awesome tutorials. He always posts great things that bloggers actually use and in a way that anyone can understand and apply to their blogs!

So a HUGE, HUGE, thanks to Paul!

Not sure who wrote this quote, I searched but with no results so again I'm going with unknown! My grandma use to have this quote hanging in her laundry room, as a kid I never really knew what it meant but I read it almost every time I left her house- as an adult, it all makes sense now and is so true. I love October for so many reasons, one of them being it was my Grandmas birthday so this one is in honor of her!
