Before you start a new website or sit down with your coder, ask yourself a few questions. Start to think about what your audience is looking for.

Do they want immediate answers and solutions? Probably. These visitors are people very much like you...using the internet more than any other type of media to get answers to their questions. If your page doesn't get their attention within 8 - 10 seconds, chances are they will move on and you've lost them.

People take very little time to read what is on a web site. They need information and they want it fast. They don't have the time or want to listen to wordy descriptions or comments.

Think about what they want. Information? Quick fix? A bargain? A large selection? A phone number? Once you make your list of what you believe your visitors are looking for, have all the answers handy BEFORE starting your site design.

NO WAY!

I made a BIG mistake last year. I forgot all about my Big Crumbs membership!! I couldn't believe it!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of months ago I did a post on selling books through Cash4Books. Up until recently, I didn't have any books to sell back. Then I finally turned up a few.

I entered the ISBNs and was pleasantly surprised with the amount of the buyback quoted to me. So I accepted the offer and followed all the instructions for printing out a packing list and a mailing label.

I then needed to choose the method by which I wanted to be paid. I chose PayPal and, surprise!, I got a 3% bonus for choosing the PayPal method. Nice!!!

Use organizations and directories to get free and easy back links

If your industry has professional organizations or associations that you belong to, check with them and see if they have an online directory with links to member sites. They may or may not charge a fee for this. If they do, it shouldn't be much.

Check with your local Chamber of Commerce or Better Business Bureau. Links from sites like these can be very helpful. Check with other local businesses and organizations that have lists of businesses and request links from them, too.

Online directories are opportunities to look into. Yahoo! Directory is a good one. If your business is in a specific geographical area, you might also find some local directories to submit to that will boost your local visibility.

The Internet makes doing all kinds of research SO easy. I needed a recipe for a fruit cobbler. Just typed ‘recipe cobbler’ into a search engine and Voila! loads of recipes.

My son needed some information on term insurance. He now has two children and wants to get a term life insurance policy. Nice to be able to just plug in some basic information and get back a bunch of quotes. And all from top rated companies. It is so easy to get back rate information to compare instantly.

No matter what information I am looking for, the Internet is the first place I check. I am continually amazed at how simple it is to get so much information.

Another way to build natural links to your website is through social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace and Twitter. These sites allow you to set up a user profile where you can add information about you and your company including a link to your website.

Some sites, Facebook for example, also have a way to promote your business with a page, ad or group. Just keep in mind that there are good ways and bad ways to promote your business on social sites and you should observe proper etiquette when you do.

The short answer is 'yes'. I have often considered taking this blog a step forward and having it hosted somewhere other than with Blogger. In doing my research, I have found that it can be hard finding a new host for my site. Sometimes I feel like I am going in circles trying to figure out all the options and features and what would work best for me. Well, I finally found a place where all the info needed about web hosting was all gathered in one place.

I've written before about making money with articles at eHow. Another popular site to earn money from one's articles is Associated Content.

My local newspaper had information on another site: helium.com

Helium.com offers upfront payments on certain types of articles. The payments range from $.50 to $2.50 per article. There is also a list of 'empty titles'. These are titles for articles helium.com wants. They pay $1. Also, Helium.com shares the revenue based upon traffic, quality of the article, etc. If your article is licensed to a publisher, you get a cut.

I came across a blog entitled Decorating with Dishes. The site was subtitled "A blog discussing using decorative antique, vintage, retro, contemporary, toile, transferware, rosanna, hawaiiana, shabby, cottage, chic, dishes, plates, small plates and bowls for wall, cabinet, or entertaining".

On the site I found pictures of all kinds of plates: rooster plates, black and white plates, square plates and a whole lot more.

On the blog was a link to a web site selling all these plates. Obviously the blog was simply a means, with loads of keywords in the description, of getting traffic to then drive to their web store...a great idea and a great technique.

Consider duplicating this idea if you have a web store. Create a blog, load it with keywords and use that blog to drive traffic to your store.

To make some additional money, my daughter has started a new on-line company, in addition to working her regular job.

She is selling all natural products including soaps, scrubs and candles. I know she has a resource for an all natural makeup line and will be adding that to her site, in the future. Her hopes are to actually open a storefront. That would be pretty neat.

Her goal is to try and get some unique items. I came across Woodwick Candles and the wood wick is made from organic wood. I'm going to have to send her the link to investigate for her line of products.
