LETTER TO A FRIEND WITH BROKEN HEART

Hello dear friend,

I know you are hurting. You feel like nobody could possible understand you right now. Everyone tells you to move on for your own good. I did the same, didn't I? So people like you who have broken heart restore to telling other people that they are okay. Of course what else they could do? Its better than explaining things to them that you don't understand yourself. Today I want to tell you something that I didn't say the other day when you told me that you still miss her & still not over her after all this time. Often these days I come across your Facebook posts which are reminiscent of you broken relationship & heart. My friend, I want to tell you that PEOPLE WHO GOT THEIR HEART BROKEN ARE BRAVE. They are the ones who put their feelings out their in open to show they love someone special, they care for them. Not everybody can do that because they can't risk getting hurt. The pain you feel right now will go away with time, I promise. You will fall in love again. Don't resist your feelings of grief. Let yourself drown in it. And then you will see slowly you have started to swim. The sun will shine in your face again & birds will sing only for you. It will get better. I want to reach you & help your broken heart but I will also understand if you need your own time to heal. So I want you to know that I'm here for you. For as long as you want me to.

A Bigger Question?

"A 3 years old raped........" news reporter was saying as my father turned on a news channel.
Suddenly my father turned the volume low and changed the channel. My mother remarked in a concerned hushed tone that how such crimes have increased in a certain part of the country where this sinister crime took place.

I was in my room reading a novel but since room's door was open so I heard all this. My first thought was that how could anybody think about hurting a 3 years old? As a grown up I always find an inherent protective instinct in me for those who are vulnerable & young. Same thing I have witnessed in other responsible grown ups too. This is very important & basic instinct for the existence of any society where its grown up members strive to provide a safe & healthy environment for its younger ones to grow because it's what decides the future well being of the society.

Now time for a reality-check thought; what kind of society is one where our children & women are molested & harassed? Incidents like these are happening so more often & its very scary. Before we start blaming flawed laws poor implementation let us take a step back & introspect for 10 minutes, shall we? These molesters are from our society, they are from among us so how come our society has began to produce human beings who are anything but humane, who have no love for children & no hope for future? So if cops won't be around & CCTV cameras won't be installed to keep a check on people would that mean people will go on tearing each others clothes & strangling one another huh?

One of the minister said that every women can't be provided with security guards & others are proposing to hire security guards in every buses & metro rail! Amidst all this a bigger question is that where are we all heading together as a society? If only anybody could answer this question.

The Arrival

As President Obama and the First Lady arrived at the Delhi airport on the chilly morning of
25th January, 2015 to attend India's 66th Republic Day celebrations they were welcomed warmly by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While Obama's & Modi's instant chemistry caught nation's eye, Michelle Obama's chic and stylish dresses got everybody's attention too. It appeared that she followed a floral theme for her trip to India. She stepped off Air Force One wearing spring poppy print coat and dress designed by Indian designer Bibhu Mohapatra. She teamed it with a pair of black pumps.

Tea Party

For President Pranab Mukherjee’s 'At home' tea party at the presidential palace, Rashtrapati Bhavan, on Monday in New Delhi, she wore a beige A-line dress scattered with purple flowers, with a matching cropped jacket.

State Dinner

For the state dinner at the presidential palace Sunday night, she chose a short dress in navy blue, red, gold and white floral pattern, with a scoop neck, three-quarter-length sleeves and a wide A-line skirt.

The Parade

Her only non-floral outfit was for India’s grand Republic Day parade on Monday in New Delhi, when it poured down rain. She chose a black, almost military-style coat with a red scarf tucked in around her neck.

When the president and Mrs Obama left India on Tuesday, she was again dressed in a floral black dress.

A Novel Journey

I remember when I was in 9th grade I’d a friend in my class who used to read so many novels. Once I saw a thick old looking book with her so I asked her what that book was about & she told me that it was Tom Swayer, an interesting book about a boy, that she'd borrowed from the school library. She insisted that I too should read it as its a very good book.

Classic Novels

A few days later I went to the school library & borrowed Tom Swayer & that was the first novel that I ever read. I didn’t like it as much as my friend did but that inspired me to read. Next I read David Copperfield & I wept secretly hiding from my mother as I read about the miseries of the little boy who was forced to live away from his mother. Then there was The Little Princess, Heidi, Pride & Prejudice & few other classic novels (I don’t recall now, its been a long time since!).

Psychology & Suspense/Thriller

After all those classic fictions I came across books like Many Lives, Many Masters (a books that totally blew my mind at that time), The Best Laid Plans by Sidney Sheldon, Da Vince Code & Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. I thoroughly enjoyed reading suspense & thriller. Even today I'd like to read novels from this genre.

Young Adult Fiction

Then I got hands on some teenager-girlie books like LBD, Princess Dairy Series, All American Girls, Victoria & Rouge, The Mediator series, Nicola & Viscout, Teen Idol (except LBD all by Meg Cabot) & then I grew sick of Meg Cabot novels & in fact all girlie novels for that matter.

Harry Potter Mania

I was in 10th grade when I was introduced to the famous Harry Potter novels (by the same friend who suggested me to read my first novel!). I was instantly head over heels for harry potter & got addicted to HP series. In India we used to have board in 10th standard back then (now I think its not compulsory) so I used to hide from mom to read it because she wouldn’t let me read it since as a 10th grader one is supposed to be reading text books for board & not the adventurous story of a wizard boy!!

Some Hindi Novels

During one of the summer vacation when my father was cleaning & organising old files & books I found few novels like treasures so I grabbed few novels from his Hindi novel collection ( & he let me of course!). Those were novels from renowned Hindi & Urdu authors. Though now I don’t remember all those novel names( I do remember novel's plots vaguely) but I do remember one of 'em was Nirmala written by Hindi and Urdu writer Munshi Premchand .Though Nirmala means "virtuous" or "pure", David Rubin, the first translator, titled it as The Second Wife. The plot revolves around a young girl named Nirmala, who is forced to marry a widower of her father's age. After reading Nirmala I felt that it was too mature for my age.

After I finished my school I never got time to read many novels. Also my area of interest changed to non-fiction which also suited my academic & career needs. Though during last two years I've been able to read Rich Dad & Poor Dad , You Can Win & Fallen Angel. In 2015 I want to continue my novel journey & discover some good non-fictions to read.

How to win an argument?!

We all have been part of some heated discussions/arguments in our lives. Do you remember the last time when you got into an argument with somebody? May be with your mother, friend, sibling or just any random person, huh?! Today when I got into one such argument I realised that winning an argument is in fact an art! So I decided to do some research on this topic. When I googled I found some really interesting & insightful articles about it. One article that I found was-'How to win an argument when you're wrong". But I've no intention of winning an argument when I'm wrong. What is the point of arguing when you know you're wrong? It's just a huge wastage of the time & energy. It creates a scene like Big Boss house where people argue like mad! Moreover you can never make a good impression on anyone when you argue like Samvhavna Seth.

"Choose your battles wisely. After all, life isn't measured by how many times you stood up to fight. It's not winning battles that makes you happy, but it's how many times you turned away and chose to look into a better direction. Life is too short to spend it on warring. Fight only the most, most, most important ones, let the rest go.”

First & foremost it is very important to decide where to pursue an argument & where to let it slide. Golden rules of any argument are-Don't lose temper. Remember point no.1. Because if you lose temper you lose! Also it is very important to stick to the point. It becomes even more crucial to keep your mind cool when someone starts personal attacks. Defeat the opponent with facts & logic.
