I have been asking for the bear since last year. Well, actually I found one online, but he believed so deeply that he can find better one. He went to Toys"R"Us on Times Square as well, but mission failed! It's very hard to find a big teddy bear. That is cute and cuddly. Most of the bears they carry is for babies, or for collectors(Steiff bears $100~900). So I ordered it from Just Teddy Bears, online store from CA. I'm not into those bears that looks like it's been in the back of your car too long and squished to death face or too realistic of a face. Anyhow, I hope every got what they wanted for Christmas! - j.

Could Google pave the way to online subcription based services?

Right now I should be composing emails to my recent interviews but I rather wait it off until I can get more guidance from dear old sister. Apparently she has a knack at writing business letters and the like. Something that I never really got the hang of. I guess being a lazy reader when I was young kinda bit me back.

I finally got to use Google's word processing software. The software was easy and to the point. Most importantly it can be saved as a Doc format. I would not use it more or less versus Appleworks or MS office. I have the feeling that if this becomes successful other software companies will follow suit. I can easily imagine couple years from now when online connection speeds are faster and an "active" registration (where companies can keep a track of you via SN) are a common place. Imagine when the only thing you need is a computer with an operating system and a simple browser nothing else. Application folders will just become links to your "subscribed" software. There will be no ownership of software. Kinda funny thinking about the next Adobe CS online addition. Massive font, clip art, brush selections at your finger tips for only $49.99/month!

Talks of distributed computing for the likes of SETI and protein folding research will be eclipsed eventually by commercial software. I see it as a way for animation programs to use other subscribed users available computing power to help render difficult scenes.

Peer to peer software could be modified so that subscribed users can use others tool sets when permitted to. So let say Jimmy from Texas needs some action script for a flash scene. He pulls down his scripts "friends" list to see what is available in there database. He finds that Jorge from Madrid did a script that he can modify to suit his needs. It sounds like fiction until you find out that the flash software he's using is a subscription and that the program is actually at the head quarters he is subscribed to. Since the company can control the software in every aspect; things like sharing data seamlessly will just be an after thought. I guess one can call it a active distributed software system.

One of the great advantages to online based software is the compatiability aspect. Any software system so long it has a browser can utilize it. It is advantages to users in that they no longer have to worry about installation and updates. The time saved for software companies in developing one format is lower overhead. Enviromentalist will celebrate since there is little packaging waste.

Flash based games already have many aspects written above. You can play it online with no installation. Your high score is already saved in the games database available for viewing by any other would be player. Google predicted this and sooner or later others will follow as well.

So just like music, software will no longer have a physical representation of it self. Just a box, if your lucky a manual, a card, and a serial number.

1000 Objects?

1000 EXTRA/ORDINARY OBJECTS is a fun book to read, or just flip through.I just picked it up in Barnes & Noble on 22nd street and 6th avenue. Which consist of deleted scenes and blooper reels and other good stuff. Lately DVDs come with 2-disc, it's great. I think we bought this DVD on sale for $14.99, DVD prices are really uneven throughout online stores to actual stores, so you really have to find it on luck or look for the best price. Some places charges crazy prices for certain ones. Enough of DVD talk. After watching PIRATES OF CARIBBEAN: Dead Man's Chest, I had a strange urge to watch PIRATES OF CARIBBEAN: The Curse of Black Pearl. I guess it makes more sense when you watch it over and over again, Louis hardly even remember watching "The Curse of Black Pearl."

If you get the extended edition, it even comes with historian talking about real pirates in details and other facts and painting that inspired the whole theme, pirates. Drunken men fighting in most impossible situation, looking for treasure to undo the curse, playing tactics to get to what they really desire is quite fascinating. It's not all about treasure hunting is what makes it interesting. On top that, great CG always helps a lot. But they put a really hard work to it, all the animators thank you! You guys are great. With help of 2nd disc they will show you how they transformed the cursed pirates to the --- you know the bonny really cursed scary pirates.

Well, PIRATES OF CARIBBEAN: Dead Man's Chest is still in theaters. I saw this great billboard in Times Square. I think that's what made me think of watching the first one again. And, well we love pirates. So if you like pirates, action adventure movie give it try.

Grateful Day.

Seriously, what a nice day.
We decided to visit the South Street Seaport today. It's nice to stay close to the water in this beautiful weather. Even though as I guessed 4 and 5 trains are not running right, and we had to transfer twice. Anyhow, I've been here only once, it was a cold winter day. This whole area is turned into a big shopping attraction for tourist. All the fish market has closed down and moved to the Bronx. There are many yellow taxi boats to take to you the other side, under the Brooklyn bridge. I was pretty overwhelmed by how many people there were. We bought our lunch in Sunnyside at our favorite Irish joint. The view is great, here is my attempt of semi-panoramic view by my digital camera.

I was getting pretty dizzy. Endless stores, endless tourists and their families, what a Saturday that was. When you go there, you feel like you are on vacation. It's very relaxed and festive. We walked up to Union Square from there, it was a long walk. By the time you know it was getting pretty dark. Then we decided to go back down to St. Marks Place to eat something at JAS Mart. It was a long day, but a nice day to walk around.

Itchy Bitchy Spider.

Spider. One of the major things I despise in life. Spider-man. I never really paid much attention to it. I know what Spider-man is, but I didn't know what is the story behind it. I just assume that he is like Superman. It's all the same, is what I believed. Later, Louis told me that Spider-man is quite different, he is nothing like Superman. I'm not fond of super hero movies, so I really didn't give enough credit for all other super hero stories. I don't know if the original comic book story of the Spider-man differs from the movie, but Spider-man is actually a young high school geek, who gets bit by a special spider. The first Spider-man movie is a story of how Peter Baker, (who just graduated high school in Forrest Hills, Queens) became Spider-man and realize that "great power comes with great responsibility."

Another surprise about this movie was the first, the very first scene, where it shows our neighborhood. Our street, where we live. I was looking at the 7 train and thinking, hey this looks very familiar...Then I realize that is where we live, Sunnyside. Unlike Superman, Peter Baker is a human being, who is not invincible and all mighty. He makes mistakes and enjoy and understand his new abilities as he realize he can use this power to save others. I think that's what makes Spider-man different from Superman.

This movie was much more than what I had in mind. Some of the CG effects looked like it came from game console...Plus, $3.99 for this brand new DVD was an offer I cannot refuse. We also bought Spider-man 2, and I think Spider-man 3 is coming out in movie theaters soon. Well, I still like MEN IN BLACK better. There are rumors that they are going to make MIB 3 but it's not for sure. I'm still not in love with super hero movies, but it was a fun movie to watch and I'm glad I give it a try.

My Little Pony doesn't play Polo.

Not Polo. Play Rugby anyone?
Welcome to the fashionable world of RUGBY for men and women. RUGBY is Ralph Lauren's casual line for college students out there. Conveniently located on University's place around NYU, just opened December last year.

This was very unexpected for me to see RL's logo with skull, crown and customizable jacket with patches. Pretty edgy, yet proper. Men's section is very colorful with patchwork jackets and other pin-stripe long sleeve shirts, they also have simple suits and jackets. For women, leather knee cut pants, very semi-punk-ish to girlish designs. Also fitting room is so cute and original. RUGBY is in-store only. You can't buy from polo.com, which is RL's online store. You can find other location for RUGBY from RUGBY.COM

Ties and scarves which are made in England start from $68 and up, but don't worry jackets and others are made somewhere else, so it is bit cheaper. Not that cheap but, not extremely expensive. Some design are unique and it's unusual for Ralph Lauren's clothing. I guess they are aiming for the abercromibie and fitch kind of consumers. They are quite similar, I think. Maybe RUGBY is a bit more colorful and loud. Perfect for anti-conservative folks. Well it is a fun store to visit so drop by when you are close by.

THE UFO SILENCERS.

PROTECTING THE EARTH FROM THE SCUM OF THE UNIVERSE.
Your local galaxy defender, Mr. Jones and Mr. Smith at your service. MIB is categorized under sci-fi comedy action film, basically it's action packed funny alien movie. The movie take place here in NYC, and 2 MIB agents fight against extraterrestrial crime in style.

MIB really exist? Louis told me that they are based upon real MIB. The term Men in Black is referred to men dressed in black suits claiming to be government agents who attempt to harass or threaten UFO witnesses into silence. They appear at UFO sighting and not necessarily in black suit, but they act strange. These events were reported around reported in the 1950s and 1960s. Some even claim that MIB is not human, but they appear to wear make-up to hide their inhuman like appearance. Also their behaviors are mostly odd, or threatening and abnormal. In MIB, the movie, they are actually human agents who dress in dark colored suit and act in such manner to get UFO witnesses to forget such an encounter. Well this is all UFO conspiracy theory though...

There are no hard evidence that could black up MIB's theory, but there is many incident and witnesses. But unless you experience it yourself, it's hard to say. Well, you know what they say, "Truth is out there."

*We found this deluxe edition of MEN IN BLACK(1997) for $3,99 brand new at Best Buy. It's hard to say no to that price. ; )

Wiggle your big toe.

"Open toes?"
It's summer time, it's time for ladies to show off their feet(except myself). Anyhow it's just steaming hot that you can bake bread in our lovely apartment. It's going to be 100 degrees tomorrow in NY. I can feel the heat already. So keep your feet cool.

* This light box is custom made in Chinatown, NY. Unfortunately we found out that it's cheaper to buy it online. They did it. Only thing is that you need to buy iPod nano, if you don't have one, and Nike+ shoes which has a built-in pocket under the insole for iPod sensor. I suppose you can do a shoe hack and make that hole under the insole. Also, you will need the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit, which is basically a sensor that uses an accelerometer to measure your movement when you run and transfers this to the receiver on your iPoddie. Get it? Confused? See for yourself. It's quite interesting.

Nike also offers sport music which can sync to your steps when your running. I wonder what kind of music that is...Nike+ has many different color sneaker to choose from. Also you can checkout the progress of your running, how many miles you ran in what time. Just plug your nano to your Mac and it will give you a chart of how you did. Pretty geeky? Yes it is. You can listen to the sport music at nike+.

You will be missed...

In memory of my iPoddie,
thanks for 3 years of good music.

Death of my iPod, I was afraid of that. It's not that far from Apple store. It is all new, nicely renovated with new look and bigger exhibition space. The current special exhibit is DADA. What's so great about going to MOMA on Friday after 4pm? It's FREE! It is few of the things that are free in new york city. Admission is $20 per person, so why not drop by on Friday after 4pm?

DADA exhibit is not really big, located on the 6th floor.
But good size, I would say. Man Ray, Duchamp, many familiar DADAISM artist. Very intriguing and somewhat inspiring. Yes, we encountered the urinal(which he signed with the pseudonym "R. Mutt", and titled "Fountain") and the bicycle wheel on the stool. Unfortunately no photograph was allowed inside. There is a piece I liked by Duchamp. It's called TRAP, which is just a wooden coat hanger on the ground. In the description, he said that he cannot help kicking it on the ground and never had a chance to nail it on the wall. Hahaha. So who is Duchamp? He is the guy who added goatee and moustache to the famous Mona Lisa. According to his quote, "It is necessary to arrive at selecting an object with the idea of not being impressed by this object on the basis of enjoyment of any order, However, it is difficult to select an object that absolutely does not interest you, not only on the day on which you select it, and which does not have any chance of becoming attractive or beautiful and which is neither pleasant to look at nor particularly ugly." - Marcel Duchamp

MOMA was not so busy, but many tourist, students, art critics on site. We took the bus, it took forever, the major traffic jam.

After getting off the bus, rain storm attacked us on 60th street and 2nd avenue, we ran. But against the windy rain and impossible to jump over puddles, we were soaked. New Apple Store, open 24/7, located on 59th and 5th avenue. People are trying to get inside. As fast as possible to avoid this tropical storm. Oh, hail CUBE! When I see this store! Anyhow, my shoes, socks, bag, pants...All wet. It also killed my cellphone. No fan, no AC, it's hot as hell, you are in total darkness...What do you do to make you chilled?

For that, we decided to play an old game I bought couple years ago for pre-owned $8.99. Which I haven't even beaten. It's called, "SILENT HILL 2". Pretty scary game to play in the dark, the 3-D sound system is extremely creepy and realistic. The storyline is pretty disturbing as well, places filled with disfigured mannequin shaped monsters, your only light source is a flashlight. Abandoned and isolated town of Silent Hill and you are all alone. Perfect game to play during humid summer days, it will be sure to chill you down quicker then ice cream. Here in the dark realm of SILENT HILL, you will go through places like grave yard, mental hospitals, apartment buildings, and old hotel. What is basement of basement? It's somewhere you will never want to visit...The whole scene is covered with mist and darkness, and you need to find clues and go forward, opening the door and discovering what is inside to find out what really happened. It's like reading a horror book, but you are inside of it.

I think the game was made in 2001, graphics are not bad at all. Imperfect graphic also make the game more scary. It reminded me Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining (1980)" , A Masterpiece Of Modern Horror according to IMDb. No kidding. We are roasting in the apartment. Outside, where people are chilling like 4th July with their Cooler box, chairs, and their car stereo music, it was such an odd site to see. Family setting on the sidewalk, ConEd trucks pass by, never stopping sirens. It felt like the Halloween night, people are either bored by having fun. Dark buildings one after another, this is what it's like when all the lights go off. You can see stars. Subway is not running as much as usual to save energy. Our phone service is down as well, my phone died yesterday. Louis is trying to recreate candle now from wax. He is afraid of darkness, who isn't? It felt like we were back in time where candle was the only light source. We sure had a candle light dinner. -j.

Here Comes Johnny,

Aye, Captain! Captain Jack Sparrow. We just saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest at our local theater. $4 dollar Tuesday all movies, every week. Nice, no? The movie was quite long, total of 150 minutes, many people stood up in the middle of the movie to take the bathroom breaks. I wanted to see this movie ever since it opened on July 7. Finally I watched it. This movie comes after Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearlwhich was released in July 9, 2003(Nominated for 5 Oscars, if you care to know.) Very fun movie to watch, CG is very nicely done. I believe they are already filming Pirates of the Caribbean 3, so I'm excited and hoping that it will not end up like the MATRIX.

Today is so humid and hot. According to my unreliable weather cast, it's 97 degrees, and feels like 100 degrees. It's a boiler room here. I'm almost well-done. Louis is trying to make salsa right now. Weather like this, I have no urge to eat at all. Going to movie theater was nice, free AC with great entertainment. Even Linus is on the wood floor with his legs spread a part, being a cat during summer must be tough. - j.

Toadstool, or Gourmet Mushroom?

Yikes! I'm not so fond of those fungus. I'm allergic to it, and also it visually disturbs me. Unlike Louis, I am not a mushroom lover. We found this mushroom around our neighborhood, under the front yard of some kind of office place. It was pretty huge, about 6 inches wide. Is it eatable? According to Louis, the answer is NO. "If you break the head of the mushroom and it bruises black, it's poisonous." Said Louis.

I'm not sure what kind of mushroom this is. It looks pretty scary to me. Louis broke a piece off of it and it turned black...It's probably poisonous. So Louis had decided to grow his own oyster mushroom. He bought 2 buckets and went around coffee shop to get a used coffee grind, and also oyster mushrooms which was about to go bad from grocery store. He buried the mushroom in the freshly ground coffee which is placed in the bucket. Now you just wait and water it everyday until it turns white...Well I will let you know if this mushroom colony is successful. - j.

MTA, the source of Evil.

Unbelievable thing happened to us on our way home from IKEA. 42nd street MTA station, as we swipe our MetroCard to get inside of the subway. City's famous NYPD undercover police officer(dressed like a deli guy) stopped us.

Why? I wish I could tell you.
Louis used the gate door entrance,(because he was carrying a huge plant with a pot which we purchased from IKEA) and asked if he is handicapped. Is that really a necessary question to ask? He is carrying a 26 lb. pot with 4 feet tall plant inside of it(please look at the photograph on the right.) It's heavy. Well, wait a minute, that big gate doorway is not only for handicapped people, also for people with suitcases, bikes, and other items, that make it hard for anyone to go through. We placed the card into the slot, and it said "Go Through", so he went through the door. And I used the same card, which is not unlimited(weekly card can be only used every 15 minutes), had $18 credit on it through the turnstile. He asked us, where we're from, how long have we lived ins NY, another undercover officer shows up and he asked us to show him ID and the MetroCard. Of course who will say no to a police officer, we handed them over. They checked it out and it was obvious that card was used.

They were going to charge us $60 fine for using the gate door, because we didn't swipe the card on regular turnstile then, go through the gate door. So how come there is no sign that said, this card slot is only for the handicapped? They told us, "we'll let you go this time." Seriously, I think NYPD is the most rude and obnoxious police force ever, why the attitude? I'm not asking for a nice police officer, just be logical and cool. Sometimes I think they ask that way to press more charge on you. We believe that there is conspiracy behind the MTA & the Blue Wall. Officers must get a commission out of every fine they get out of MTA. MTA trains don't even function right most of the time, only thing they do is rise the subway fair.

What makes me sad is, MTA & NYPD sucks, and there is nothing I can do about it. Oh god, save us. Save us from this evil corporation called MTA. Also NYPD needs some kind of anger management class, I think. I always seems end up meeting the most angry and frustrated ones. Anyhow, you guys definitely ruined my weekend. Thanks, a lot.

See you in IKEA.

Take the free shuttle bus from Port Authority 42nd street to IKEA, the paradise to all those who seek stylish furniture and great Swedish food for great price. Adventure of IKEA starts from 10am, if you are an early bird. For us, we start from getting into the bus at 12pm. After 40 minutes of comfortable ACADEMY bus ride, you are there, IKEA where you dreamed of(haha).

We head right to the cafeteria, to eat the famous Swedish meatballs with Lingonberry sauce. Their lingonberry juice is also famous and very tasty. I think last bus to take you can take to get to IKEA is 2pm, last bus you need to get on from IKEA is 6pm. My advice is get there early and leave early, you can spend the rest the day for movies or other.

It's time to go home.

It's very humid today, muggy and I have a headache. Even without the sun, it's still hot. According to the unreliable weather cast, scattered T-storm is coming tomorrow. Well, we'll wait and see.

Astoria park is a bit far from the train station, we took N train to Astoria Blvd stop. Walking toward the trees, 7 blocks is the Astoria park. Watch out for the black fly though, I got bit and it hurts like nothing else. Astoria park is really pretty. Right by the river, you can buy some ice cream while you are at it. So many family and older folks sitting around, enjoying the public pool which is pretty impressive size. Sunset is especially beautiful.

It's a beautiful day.

HIYA!
