The below Windows 8 images were leaked more than a month ago, sourced from milestone builds of Windows 8, show the Windows App Store.

In addition to hosting Microsoft software like Office 2010, we will also be able to download compatible third-party apps, share gift coupons etc.,
The interface resembles much with the Apple App Store, Mac App Store, and the Chrome Web Store, and so its layout has been criticized for being repetitive and not unique.

As the images are from a build, we can expect more changes before the actual release.

System restarts automatically? [Check out y!]

Sometimes, when you start your PC, it restarts automatically after the welcome screen, and when the system starts again, it shows a message stating that the "system has recovered from a serious error". Many-a-time, even while working on the system, it restarts abruptly.That's so frustrating, isn't it?
Here is exactly what might be the problem. An additional impact might also be on the audio,video such as "unable to hear audio" which can also be fixed in the same way:

First and foremost, do the following steps urgently:

Re-install the Audio driver (If its an audio issue as well)
Check for the viruses and eliminate them
Clean the registry and have all the drivers up-to-date.
If you still have an issue, Format the hard drive and Re-install the OS once as sometimes it might be an erratic OS as well. I myself had faced such issue.

Now inspite of all these, if you still have any problem, the motherboard seems to be erratic then, but you should conﬁrm that before you take a decision to buy a new motherboard.
There could also be a loose connection between the motherboard and the RAM, which could also cause the same problems.The problem could also be due to a dusty RAM slot.

Clean the entire motherboard and RAM chips thoroughly using Isopropyl alcohol.
Check after doing so, or else change the RAM chips with working ones or a NEW ones.
If the problem still exists, then either change the motherboard only, or change the
complete set of the motherboard, CPU and RAM which might cost you much but you might have no other option. Good Luck!

Google claims that an improvement to the js file that literally millions of people use for their adsense ads will reduce an avg of half a second off each page's loading time. This will ultimately speed up the ENTIRE WEB!

The js file now lets pages be rendered while ads are loaded in a separate iframe.However the new method is only currently supported by chrome,firefox and IE8. This will roll out to other browsers soon!

How to get the monitor screen back to normal state?

At times, by mistake you type something and the monitor screen turns upside down suddenly! Well, well well, DON'T PANIC! This is pretty simple fix to be implemented. All you need to do is press "Ctrl+Alt+Up Arrow" if it would have been turned upside down. How to take it inversely? Its the opposite, i.e., "Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow". If you want experiment on the side arrows as well similarly but this would make the screen to rotate 90 degrees left or right. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Any new system degrades in its performance in some time, specially when you are running through internet in an effective way, every day.

Every OS and program creates temp files for its working. These files are usually deleted by the program itself but often, these files are still in the system, thereby causing huge clutter of unwanted files. This causes the drive to get heavily fragmented which ultimately turns down the performance of your system. Its really difficult for a user to find them and delete as they never are in a single location. So here is how you can do the same with the aid of a disk cleaning utility which is a freeware, which is quite easy and efficient. The best ones are Windows Washer (Not Free), CCleaner or Disk Scrub. These will find such files and safely delete them for you. If you can't afford money, I suggest you use CCleaner which is already quite phenomenal and famous.

How to increase the battery life of your Laptop?

These days, Laptops have become a kind of necessity for not only working/travelling professionals but also just about every one. Here are a few tips from my side so that any leyman can increase his/her battery life. I mean the battery life! Anyways, Here you go:

Firstly, try to reduce the screen brightness. It ain't good for you and also the life of battery for its a major battery hog.
Verify the power saving setting(s) in your Win/Mac and configure it to put off the screen and hard-drive after being idle for some time. Never turn off your hard drive though!
Always try hibernate over stand by. This actually is a good energy saving feature. Check this out at your wish/risk. Why it's a little risk? See this.
Never go for a screen saver. Its actually not an energy saver!
Wireless sensor consumes lot of battery power. Put it off when you are not using the network connection.
Mute your speakers in laptop when you don't need it. Also turn off/disable the Bluetooth if you don't need it.
Turn off all the scheduled tasks and don't run multimedia activities for long periods of time.
Do not plug in the USB devices for a long periods of time. This includes your external/portable hard drives as well.
Optical drives like CD/DVD or even blu ray in the combo drives these days consume a lot of power. So copy the contents on to the internal hard drive and see them.
Hard disk also consumes some more power. Reduce hard disk activity by having more RAM.
Always, fully dis-charge your recharged battery and only then recharge it again several times in a line. This way, your battery performs its best. I do the same.

Note: Over a period of time, any battery would deteriorate. These are just a few tips to increase its life. Hope this helps.

How to convert PDF to Word, Excel ???

In my previous post, you have known how to convert word to PDF. Now I shall go vice versa. Here is how you can convert PDF to word or excel :) How? Its just the other way around folks! Just kidding...Here are the steps:

1. Click here
2. You will see the options to browse a PDF file in the very first text area. Click for the required PDF file. If it is encrypted, please enter its password in the next area which reads "PDF Password".
3. Ensure you click from "File"
4. Choose the output format as Word OR Excel as needed.
5. Click Convert your file.It might take anywhere between 5 min to 15 min depending on the speed and the type of doc. Once this is done, you will see the status as "Job is done".
6. Then click on "Download your file" button which is below the same status. Open or save to your desktop.
7. You can also extract the IMAGES as jpg/png from the PDF. Please ensure you click on "Extract the Images". However you can't do both at a time!

Note: You can also enter the Email ID and have this doc sent to the same. Just make sure to check it before converting the file. Also you will need to wait for 30 min before converting another file since you are a free member. If you have interest, become a paid member as this is well recommended!

You might come into a situation where in you would need to convert a word into a PDF some time and you might have wondered how? Well, I did. There are multiple stand alone utilities which demand payments from us but there are also some free programs which might just do the job, which I will touch base soon. Anyways, for now,I would like to tell you the simplest way of doing the same. All you need is an Internet connection. Here are the steps:

1. Open http://www.freepdfconvert.com/
2. Browse for the file from your system. Click the radio button as "File" and not URL. If its a url, then you will need to upload the doc to some other site and provide its path.
3. Now click on "Convert your file"
4. It might take anywhere between 5 min to 15 min depending on the speed and the type of doc. Once this is done, you will see the status as "Job is done".
5. Then click on "Download your file" button which is below the same status. Open or save to your desktop.

How to delete all restore points and shadow copies in Windows 7?

In Windows XP and Vista, it is possible to conﬁgure the disk clean-up tool to delete the restore point and shadow copies when debugging the system. However, Windows 7 does not offer these settings. In Windows 7, the deletion
process does not function similar to
previous versions. In case of used data,
the corresponding option in Windows
7 is very well concealed. To begin with, right-click on drive ‘C:’ in Windows Explorer and select the ‘Properties’ sub-command.
Under the ‘General’ tab, click on the ‘Disk clean-up’ option. While In older versions of Windows, you can switch to ‘Other options’, in Windows 7, ﬁrst click on the ‘Disk cleanup’ button, and in the next dialog box, you will be able to switch to ‘Other options’.
Subsequently, under ‘System restore and shadow copies’, click on ‘Clean-up’. Simply conﬁrm the security pop-up to delete all old system restore points by clicking on ‘Delete’ followed by clicking on ‘Delete ﬁles’.

Windows opens the windows of important system consoles, e.g. the Computer Administration or the system services in a very small size. So you have to drag and enlarge the window every time. That is certainly not clear and in keeping with times. This is definetly out of all our experience(s)! Check out how we can acheive the customized size? Here it is...
In the view settings of the consoles, there is no option to save the window settings. With a trick however it can be done in this way:

Open 'Run' in the Start Menu, enter 'mmc' and click on 'OK'.
In the Microsoft Management Console window, now open the menu 'File'.Here, you will ﬁnd references to the four last used system dialogs.

Note: For example, to customize the window for the computer management, select the entry that ends with 'compmgmt.msc'. 'services.msc' opens the system services; 'devmgmt.msc' opens the Device Manager. Should the desired system dialog not be available, you can start the relevant MSC-ﬁle through the 'Open'-dialog.

Now change the size and position of the respective program window as you wish and close the dialog. Conﬁrm the inquiry with 'Yes' It can also be that a note offers the update to a new version for this console ﬁle. Conﬁrm this question with ‘Yes’ as well. Henceforth, every customized dialog starts with the new settings. Enjoy the view :)

Sony’s Google TV television range, also known as Sony Internet TV (SIT), has finally been announced officially, with prices, sizes, features and other details. Sony’s premium to embed Google TV into television sets seems minimal. Wonder why!

Cyclic Redundancy Check Error!

Dear Reader,
If you have seen this error, then guess your pocket is having some wings! Don't worry as people get this error mainly while accessing/copying content from the DVD Media. What's the fix?

You might have observed that even though your DVD is perfectly fine, you might wonder why you are still getting this error! We get more frustrated when the very same DVD absolutely works fine when it runs fantastic in our friend's system :)

Well mate, the problem must be the Optical drive's DVD Lens. If possible, open the drive and carefully clean the lens. If it works, you are lucky! Else
you might need to buy a new one with no choice!

Note: You could better use a Lens Cleaner DVD that is available in shops for marginal Rs 125/-. This would help to some extent in avoiding the problem.

PayPal, an electronic payment gateway, announced its new Purpose Code yesterday. In order to conform to Indian security rules, PayPal has introduced the Purpose Code as a means of verification for all withdrawals (from PayPal account to local bank account) made by Indian customers, starting from 3rd March.

The Purpose Code is used to tracking the nature of cross border transactions whenever required by the Reserve Bank of India. Customers have to fill in this field, by choosing a suitable code from a variety of purpose codes to denote the sort of transaction they are making, from travel to content to information technology. If customers are unable to find a suitable code, they can contact PayPal for assistance. They will also be required to submit additional documents such as invoices as proofs.

NASA and GM reveal Robotnaut2 - the android Space Explorer!!!

Unmanned exploration and colonization of space by humanoid robots – androids – might seem like science fiction, or the far future, but could soon be a reality. Spectacularly timed with Obama’s proposed 5-year NASA budget – which cancelled the Constellation Moon Program and aimed to also privatize the significant cost of manned launches, among other things – NASA and GM announced their creation of Robotnaut2(R2) (Like an Astronaut!!!). GM and NASA have technologically-collaborated several times before, including the Apollo Missions and Lunar Rover Vehicle. While GM aims to reap the technological benefits in automobile robotic manufacturing, NASA clearly declared its intentions to use Robotnaut2 technology to jumpstart a "bold new era of space exploration".

There was Robonaut1, first developed 10 years ago by NASA and DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), but tragically never left Earth. While R2 still sports a copper helmet and a white body similar to R1 of a decade ago, it is said to be much more dextrous and versatile, and stronger than its predecessor – it can lift a 20-pound dumbbell with ease. This might just be one small step for science, but a giant leap for mankind. The world's smallest,densest NAND Flash drive announced!

The year 2010 promises significant mainstreaming of flash storage technology. Intel-Micron Flash Technologies (IMFT) - a Lehi, Utah-based joint venture of the two companies that have been sharing technology and Flash production since 2005 - has announced its 25nm NAND flash production process, making it the world's first 25nm NAND Flash technology. This tech promises to double the storage capacity of solid-state drives (SSD) and thu of devices that use SSD drives such as smart phones, laptops, music players, etc., without increasing the size of these devices.

Intel-Micron 25-nanometer (nm), an 8 gigabyte (8GB) NAND Flash memory device, is the smallest, most advanced process technology in the semiconductor industry to date. It measures 167 square millimeters, which is almost the size of a CD's middle hole and yet offers 10 times more capacity that a CD.

According to IMFT, the Flash manufacturing process is on a 12-15 month refresh cycle and thus since the company began its production in 2006 with a 50nm lithographic process, it has gone a long way. It came up with a multi-level cell (MLC) based 34nm flash chip with storage capacity of 32Gbit, storing 2 bits of data-per-cell. Last August, IMFT came up with a 3 bit-per-cell NAND flash memory technology using 34nm lithographic process, claiming a reduction of 11 per cent in flash memory size. "At 34nm, we were six to 12 months ahead of the competition, and with 25nm we believe we'll extend that lead," said Kilbuck, the Director of NAND market development for Micron.

This new 25nm, 8GB die is made up of many smaller 64Gbit NAND chips that hold 2 bits per memory cell and perhaps represents the fourth generation technology. With twice the capacity of the previous 34nm, we would get to see double the flash storage in the same amount of space as today. With this new NAND technology, it will be possible to build products with less than half the number of chips in comparison to what is required now with 34nm chips, leading to smaller higher density designs. For example, to build a 256 GB SSD, we just need 32 of the new 8 GB Nand flash drives, in contrast to 64. This cuts the overall cost of these SSDs and mobile products as well.

These improved manufacturing processes would seem to benefit consumers of SSDs and smart phones at large when IMFT ramps up its production up to full volume by second quarter of the year 2010.

Beware: Apple iPad searches poisoned to lead to malware!!

The Apple iPad, Apple’s latest release has received rather mixed opinions from both experts and followers; it has, nevertheless succeeded in getting a lot of public attention.

Hackers have found a way to use the iPad’s popularity for their own benefit - launching a Black hat Search Engine Optimization (SEO) campaign to take advantage of
security loop holes in blogs and other such sites using PHP to lead the user to malicious websites. The fraudsters put popular keywords such as "iPad" and "apple tablet announcement" in "compromised legitimate" websites to trick the search engines into directing people to them. Interestingly, the websites are in no way related to the iPad. They are related to "fake antivirus" software.

Trend Labs warns that such search results will direct to fake anti-virus software, "Live PC Care" which, when executed, will warn you that your computer is infected. If you are lured into installing the software, you will be taken to a phishing page asking for your credit card information.

Other popular web searches that have fallen prey to such attempts by hackers include the crisis in Haiti (Pathetic!), the movie Avatar, Google’s new Nexus One smartphone and the death of the pop king, Michael Jackson.

Mozilla Weave Released!!!

Mozilla Weave a project aimed at bringing synchronization features to Firefox has now been released in its final version.

Like the synchronization features added in Google Chrome, and the one present in Opera called Opera Link, Mozilla had in its plans a synchronization feature for Firefox. For now Weave is available as an add-on, however the plan is to have this integrated as a native feature of the browser.

One of the best things about Weave is that it allows you to use your own server for synchronizing with, and the server side component of this synchronization engine, along with source code, is also available. Most people will prefer to just use the default Mozilla servers though.

As people begin to use a greater number of computers and computing devices, the fragmentation of or data becomes ever more annoying. There shouldn't be a need to bookmark all your favourites all over again for every device and computer. A lot of solutions for synchronizing bookmarks have thus become popular and many of them even offer you the choice to use your own server for storing settings.

Weave synchronizes more than just bookmarks, and aims to provide an experience which is exactly the same across all your Firefox installations. Not only the bookmarks, but also the saved passwords, browsing history and even open tabs. The aim is to enable one to improve their browsing speed by offering the same suggestion in the places bar, and make personal settings such as passwords available everywhere.

As even open tabs are synchronized, you can work on your desktop at home, leave your tabs open, and when you use a laptop with Firefox anywhere else, all your tabs will be available in your history menu as "Tabs From Other Computers".This does pose a security risk, as you are essentially giving away all your login details to Mozilla! The solution to this is that all data is encrypted using a pass-phrase during syncing. As such your login details include you username, password and pass-phrase. If you do forget your pass-phrase, you can no longer access your synchronized data and changing the pass-phrase will reset all the synchronized details.

As with all Mozilla products, Weave is quite extensible and other add-on authors can add support for syncing their add-on setting using Weave. In future versions, add-on themselves will be synced along with other customizable aspects of the browser such as search engines.

Mozilla Weave is also available for Mozilla Firefox, which means that you can easily transfer all your bookmarks and passwords to you your mobile and gain instant access to all your favourites sites from the paces bar.

Firefox Mobile Version Released!!!

The Fox has found another prey in the N900. The long awaited mobile version of Firefox, which had been code-named Fennec has been released.

Unfortunately, for now the release is available only for the Maemo OS and will run on the N900, N820 and N800 Nokia devices. While the browser will finally be available for the Windows mobile platform as well (an alpha is available now) there are no plans for porting it to some of the other smartphone operating systems such as Symbian.Undoubtedly no version for Firefox for iPhone is planned, however a Blackberry port for Firefox is also difficult due to its Java-based OS. Android users however might see a Firefox version as such versions are undergoing testing and development.

As Firefox enters the mobile market, it does not leave behind its powerful add-on centric roots. The Firefox mobile browser promises extensibility and in fact launches with the new Weave add-on which is Mozilla's official synchronization system for Firefox mobile and desktop.It is amazing how much of Firefox you get with Firefox mobile, the browser while meant for mobiles packs in almost all of Firefox's salient features. Even so the browser manages to provide an interface which is relevant for the current touchscreen mobiles.

Interface and Features:

- The Mobile interface for Firefox hides everything till you actually need to use it, saving all your space for the interface of the website that you are browsing. Most of the interface is hidden just outside the visible area and is accessible with a simple slide.
- By sliding the interface towards the right you get access to all the open tabs as thumbnails of the open windows. Sliding the page to the left will reveal on the right side, the back and forward history controls and a button a bookmark the page.
- An settings button is also visible on the panel at the right, which takes you to the interface for managing you browser settings and configuration. Here you can mange you installed add-ons and search for add-ons in the catalog. You can also manage your downloads here.
- For entering URLs, an address-bar is appended to the top of the page which is available when you scroll to the top of the page. Since the interface supports kinetic scrolling, you could easily reach these interface elements by the flick of a finger.
- Important features of Firefox such as the password manager and popup-blocker are available in the mobile version too, and missing ones can be added back with the help of add-ons. The add-ons gallery already has quite few add-ons which work with the mobile version, and more will be available soon.
- While plug-ins support is possible in Firefox Mobile, it has been disabled in the final version due to performance concerns. In Mozilla's tests, the Flash plugin performed fine for websites such as YouTube, however it was detrimental to a good browsing experience when using websites with multiple plug-ins. An add-on is in the works which will allow enabling plug-ins on a per website basis.

Firefox's mobile standards support is at parity with Firefox 3.6, so yes even complicated HTML5 applications such as Google Wave will run on it. Support for features such as location aware browsing and off-line support means that websites such as Google search and Twitter can use you location data, and web application which support it can continue running even when you don't have network or internet coverage.

So all the lucky N900 owners can now get the Firefox browsing experience on your phone.

CES 2010: The winning technologies and the tech future!!!

The CES 2010 has ended on a happy note. The final day is over, marks the end of an event which showed great promise for everyone. As CES 2010 concludes, an analysis of the technology which has the potential to impact us and if the companies have their way, will impact us....for the readers of this blog!!! How?

3D Technology:

3D seems to be the biggest gainer of this event. Whether we like it or not, it is going to creep into our lives sooner or later. 3D had a ubiquitous presence in this event, which ranged from 3D Projectors to 3D HD TV’s. The three major Television manufacturers-Sony, Samsung and Panasonic are working on 3D HD TVs like never before. While Sony and Samsung unveiled their 3D OLED televisions, which addressed the problem of low brightness in 3D television, Panasonic also made its presence felt by launching the worlds largest 3D HD TV standing tall with a 152 inch screen. Panasonic also released a full HD 3D camera. Though it has a price tag ($21,000) which ensures that the common photographer is not able to buy it, we are still happy to see it coming in the market. LG also launched the world’s first full HD 3D projector that projects a single image instead of separate image for left and right. It also saw the launch of various 3D Blu-Ray players by Sony and LG. It also marked the launch of the first player with a Hard Disk Drive from LG-The BD590. 3D technology awed the consumers at the event, and with the tech world support, it is likely to go a long way-and finally into our living rooms.

Tablet and Ultra compact notebooks:

Its been raining tablets at CES 2010. We finally saw the unveiling of the much awaited and hyped HP (and Microsoft) tablet, though only for a very short time. nVidia was also ready with its fully 4G enabled internet tablet. Designed by ICD, it comes with Verizon and Motorola 4G.Dell also showcased its concept tablet, named ‘Streak’ running on the Android platform. Nokia also announced that it would launch five to ten tablets based on Tegra 2. The slimmest just got slimmer when Sony and MSI showcased their new laptop range. MSI launched the X slim notebook range which has all necessary features at a fractional size. Sony also launched the P series of notebooks which are slimmer than the traditional laptops that people carry around. Tablets are all set to make the computer more portable than ever before and give an all new meaning to ‘compact’.

E-Book Readers:

Though not a very popular category, it also had its share of limelight in this CES. It was started by Samsung which unveiled two new E-book readers with a 6 inch and a 10 inch display. Both of them ship with a stylus to scribble on the device while you read it. Spring also showed some innovation by adding a second, colored screen for web access, to its E-book reader. Plastic Logic also showed an E-book which was for “Mobile Professionals.” This is still a category which has been dominated by the Amazon Kindle for long, and the entry of giants in this market benefits the consumer by competitive prices and greater variety.

CES 2010 had a lot for the common consumer as we saw a shift in the products price tag. These technologies are most likely to influence us in some way or the other. We may eventually end up watching 3D Soccer matches, while browsing internet on our tablet while the E-book reader loads our favorite book.

Apple's iBooks - the Kindle killer ebook application

After revealing the Apple iPad to the world, Steve Jobs also showcased their latest application -> an e-book reader dubbed, iBooks. "Amazon’s done a great job of pioneering [ebooks] with the Kindle", Steve Jobs said, "we’re going to stand on their shoulders and go a little further".

Surprisingly, iBooks bears a striking resemblance to the interface of Shelfari.com -- the online website for sharing book information which was brought by Amazon! The main interface resembles a bookshelf with a button to the Apple Store which can be used to find, buy and download e-books right to the iPad. The Apple iPad uses the ePub format, which is thankfully an open format. iBooks allows you to change fonts, browse a table of contents, flip pages, drag pages, and so on.

Apart from iBooks, Apple has also reworked the iWorks application suite to better suit the Apple iPad. A completely new version of Keynote, Pages and Numbers has been designed for the Apple iPad. You can thus work on spreadsheets, create, edit presentations, and of course write documents using Pages.

Each app in the iWorks suite is going to sell for $9.99.
