It’s that time of year again where we reflect on our business, make any necessary changes, and give thanks for another amazing year doing what we love, with the love of our life, and for the people we love. Not a bad situation . It was the first full year of our new “portrait” business: 10/90 Photo (10%posed, 90% play). And we did just what we said, played a lot and posed when necessary. Below are our favorite 10/90 shots from 2011.

Sorry in advance to your scrolling finger. There’s a lot of photos. But seriously, you try cutting any of these out!

We have to start off with our best friends who are now living it up in Montana. We miss you!

The Fowles Family

We get to work with some of the most amazing families doing our 10/90 work. Just like the Fowles. Kathy and James’ great parenting becomes obvious after spending a little time with their children. Caleb and little Stella are amazing; so sweet, polite and playful. It’s so fun to watch families like this play. And that’s exactly why we do what we do.

This shoot took place during one of our unseasonably nice January days. It also happened to be Kathy’s birthday and the day before Stella’s 1st birthday. Perfect time for a 10/90 shoot!

The Fowles really like to use their imagination. Sometimes they’re certain animals, race cars (mostly Lightening McQueen) and other times Super Heros. Obviously here, James and Caleb were Spiderman and Batman, taking care of a random monster trolling around the canal! I thought a little added coloring would help explain the picture.

This photo below is one of my favorite 10/90 shots to date!

We headed back to their place to enjoy some after-dinner dancing and race cars.

And we have the pleasure this 2012 to document one of the happiest days in their lives – when they get hitched Only these two could turn a rainy, cold day into a fun, photo adventure in Indianapolis.

‘Tis the season for wonderful families just like this one! We captured them at home, all together…it was a delight for us to record memories of this special time in their lives. And they are quite a treat to be with…a family of five daughters (sisters) makes it instantly lively and fun. I also take style notes because they’re all so pretty! Thank you, Haley Family, and my old roomie E for inviting us over.

Jenny’s Got a Gun

I look through those hilarious awkward family photo sites and completely crack up. You know, those ones with the suspect character, weird posing or just out-of-place concept. But when it comes to the ones with the whole family posing with guns… it reminds me of a past-time of ours. No, we don’t stand next to the Christmas tree with AK-47s, but we do pull out the guns…shot guns, that is. We pack them up and head over to the shootin’ shack where we start flinging clay pigeons left and right until everyone feels dialed in. That’s when the competition starts. The prize… bragging rights. And there’s no limit to the number of times you can remind the other contestants about your winning ways. So calling the prize “coveted” is an understatement.

Jen once again put up a good fight. I’ve always said that girl looks good in the woods.

Victory went to my 12 year old nephew, Brandt (pictured below going head-to-head with me in a tie breaker). He’s been practicing hard this year and it paid off. Congrats!

Ethan’s growing up!

…And oh so fast! We saw him recently for his six month photo shoot. He gets more adorable every single time! And his mom dresses him up fantastically. She’s pretty much a rockstar when it comes to everything baby styling…from the nursery to clothes to props. We’re always excited to see Ethan’s latest thing! Here are some of our favorites…
