Not everyone is good at creating original content. Unfortunately, there are some among us who prefer stealing other people’s work instead of spending some time to create their own. The content you write and publish on your website belongs to you though. Some people don’t mind sharing their work on other people’s sites as long as they get proper attribution in return. With Easy CC License plugin for WordPress, you can add the appropriate license images to your posts to leave no doubt what others can do with your content.

The Easy CC License plugin takes the guesswork out of the process. For starters, you can choose where the licenses should appear. Don’t want to allow commercial use of your work or its modification? Just choose the appropriate options from the Easy CC License Settings page. The advanced section lets you choose jurisdiction, format, title, and attribution name and URL for your work.

The Easy CC License plugin makes the process of granting copyright permissions to those interested in your work easier. It won’t stop content theft though.

Pinterest has the potential to drive a ton of traffic to your websites. But you will have to use it the right way to get anywhere. You not only have to stay active in the community but also organize your boards properly to attract the attention of other members. Many folks think their job is done as soon as they hit the “create board” button on Pinterest. But building a killer pin-board does take time. Here are 5 ways you can go about improving the quality of your Pinterest boards:

choose a catchy name: I have seen many Pinterest boards that simply do not have catchy names. Having an attention-grabbing name for your board is very important. For instance, if you plan to talk about food, don’t just name your board “food.” “Foods I’d kill for” or something like that would work much better. You do want to make sure the name you choose for your board fits your brand strategy.

description: Pinterest lets you add your own description to each individual board. It does not have to be long. At the same time, you need to be able to define what your board is about clearly. This is important for SEO as well.

narrow focus: staying organized on Pinterest is one of the keys to success. Managing a ton of boards can get quite time consuming. At the same time, having large boards with a broad focus may not work out the best. I have had a lot of success with boards that have a narrow focus (e.g. cheat sheets, infographics, …).

repin other people’s work: if you want to gain traction on Pinterest, you need to stay active in the community. You should not only add original content to the site, you should also keep an eye on other people’s works and repin the ones that fit in your boards.

follow similar boards: that’s key. You may not always have something to share on Pinterest. But following other boards that have the same focus as yours is important. That makes finding great content for your own boards easier. Besides, you may learn a thing or two from other Pinterest users.

Building a killer Pinterest board takes some time. But you have to start somewhere. If you want to stand out in this community, you should spend some time adding content and useful information to it. The harder you work in this community, the more you will get out of it.

In order for your job board to make a difference, you need to have a significant number of people visit your site on a monthly basis. When you are ready to add a job board section to your website, you should give JobJockey a look. It is an elegant and simple WordPress theme that lets you manage job listings on your site in a more professional fashion.

JobJockey allows employers and job seekers to sign up on your website. Job seekers can upload their resumes and provide details on the type of position they are seeking. Employers get to log on and provide their job vacancies for your community to see. Job hunter can go through job entries and keep track of the ones they like. Companies do get notifications when someone applies for a job. So this theme works like a job board should.

JobJockey has a responsive design. Its settings can be managed through its admin panel. Your thumbnails get automatically resized. It could be an overkill for small sites but does what it promises well.

Developing iPhone or Android apps is a great way to increase the amount of money your business makes. Killer apps are gifts that keep on giving. They can bring traffic to your website, increase your number of followers in top social networking sites, and help your business reach the next level. Getting an app developed for your business is one part of the story. You will also need to properly promote it. iLicious for WordPress is an awesome theme you can use to get started with that process.

iLicious turns your website into a mini portal for your application. It lets you promote all the products your team has been working on. The home page is clean and optimized for conversion. Webmasters can customize theme options, colors, backgrounds, and font sizes. Branding iLicious is quite simple.

iLicious offers plenty of custom widgets and short-codes. You are going to have to set aside a separate sub-domain if you intend to keep your main blog (even though this theme does support a side-blog). Pretty neat template to promote your mobile apps with.

Coming up with great content on your blog is not everything you need to do as a blogger. You should also take time to keep your website protected against hack attacks. Brute force is the most common hack attack on WordPress sites. If hackers somehow find your admin password, you are in big trouble. Having a strong password helps. But you should also do your best to make hacking your site more difficult for newbie hackers. Here are 4 ways you can stop brute force attacks on your site:

Change admin name: WordPress comes with a default admin account. You should change your admin account or delete the default one if possible. I personally go into my database and change my admin username that way. You can also create a second admin account and get rid of the default one afterwards.

Use Limit Login Attempts plugin: Limit Login Attempts plugin lets you ban people who are trying to hack your login page. After a certain number of wrong guesses, it bans hackers’ IPs to keep them from doing any damage. It also alerts you when someone is trying awfully hard to hack your site.

Hide your login page: hiding your wp-login.php page is another way to keep your login page protected. Hide Login is just the plugin you need to make this process easier.

Ban rogue IPs: this is where the first plugin on this list comes very handy. Instead of giving people multiple chances to hack your site, you should use Limited Login Attempts to log their IP and ban them after their first try. This works quite well if you do not have registered members on your site. Doing this using .htaccess and nginx.conf is pretty easy.

Stopping brute force attacks won’t make your website completely safe against hackers. But it does help your cause. It is simple to pull off which is always nice.

If you have spent some time on popular sites such as Reddit and Google+, you have probably seen some of those fun memes. Some of those do get a lot of votes and attention. You don’t have to be a graphic artist to know how to create your own memes. Meme Generator for Mac is an awesome app that allows you to create your own memes on your Mac computer.

Meme Generator has an easy to use and clean interface. It comes with plenty of images you can use to create your own memes with. What’s nice is the fact that you can use your own images to create the memes. You do have control over text, its font, and its position in your work. This tool supports iCloud, so you can keep all your memes synchronized across all your devices.

Meme Generator lets you share and print your work directly from the app. Facebook and Twitter sharing is supported too. A pretty awesome tool to start creating your memes with.

Blogging is a lot of fun when you get to cover what you are passionate about in your pajamas. Video blogging is a whole other beast though. I have seen plenty of vloggers who make creating killer videos look easy. But it is far from that. Becoming successful on YouTube and other video sharing sites takes time and effort. People can be very harsh on your work if you don’t put your best work forward.

In order to produce videos, you need more than just great content. How you present your information matters too. If you plan to show your face in your video, you need to look somewhat professional (depending on the type of video you are producing). All these complications do make people think twice about getting started with vlogging. It is OK to be nervous when you are just getting started. Nobody is born a pro vlogger anyway. Here are 6 ways you can get over your fear of vlogging:

cover topics you have mastered: you won’t look like a joke if you know what you are talking about in your videos. Many newbie vloggers make the mistake of covering certain topics they have not fully researched. That is recipe for disaster. Remember, credibility lost is very hard to gain back.

keep it simple: those of you who are just getting started with vlogging should do your best to keep things simple. Trying to run when you have not learned how to walk may not work out for you. I personally have an easier time mastering new things when I don’t go too fast.

don’t forget the basics: so you don’t have as much experience as a pro film maker? Big deal! Everyone knows the basics. When preparing your video, pay attention to your setting, sound quality, lighting, and other basic elements to make sure your work does not look too amateurish.

avoid sophisticated tools: the key to having success with video blogging is going at the pace you can keep up with. Trying to pick up Adobe Premiere to prepare your videos when Camtasia can do the very same job you want is not smart (the Adobe software is much more advanced).

relax and learn: it is OK to get nervous when you are doing your first set of videos. In fact, that will keep you in check. For beginners, video blogging is a learning process. They won’t become a master video producer overnight. But if they persist, they will get there eventually.

avoid pursuit of perfection: aiming to create perfect videos will set you back immensely. Of course, your work should look professional and interesting to your viewers. But trying to get everything perfect could hold you back in the long run.

Becoming a master in video-blogging takes time and effort. You won’t get there overnight. If you work hard and are dedicated to learning new things about this each and every day, you will get there eventually.

Your turn: How did you get started with video blogging? What inspired you to make your first video?

G0ogle+ is one of the most addictive social networks around these days. The site is still growing fairly rapidly and will stick around for the foreseeable future. It is a goldmine of content ideas for those who know how to monitor it. One of the best way to keep up with your favorite Google+ users is by adding their RSS feeds to your Google Reader account. MyGPlusFeed is a cool Yahoo Pipe tool that makes that possible.

The process is very simple. You should go to your Google+ account, grab the ID number in your URL, and provide this tool with it. What’s neat about MyGPlusFeed is the fact it turns the first few words in your post into the title for its RSS feed entry. Once done, you will be provided with a number of options to take advantage of your new RSS feed. You can feed the link provided to you to Google Reader to start tracking it.

MyGPlusFeed does not always have perfect RSS feed entries. At the same time, it makes the process of keeping up with your favorite Google+ users in Google Reader much easier. The process takes literally seconds to complete. Of course, you can always change how this works if you know your way around Yahoo! Pipes. There is a lot to like about this tool.

Getting up one morning to realize your site has been hacked is one of the worst feelings ever. Unfortunately, that is something most of us will have to experience to learn our lesson. I have been in the blogging business for years and never thought we could get hacked. But our host’s FTP database was one day hacked and things went downhill from there. That was something we could not prevent. But there are many steps you can take as a webmaster to make your site harder to hack. They are not that difficult to pull off either:

Update your scripts: this should go without saying. Those of you who use WordPress know this too well. All the themes, plugins, and software that you run on your server should be patched up and up-to-date. Failing to do that will lead to catastrophic results over time.

Remove unnecessary scripts: many of us have plugins and themes installed on our servers that we don’t use. Deactivating themes and plugins won’t make your site secure. You also have to remove everything that you don’t use. Many sites get hacked using holes in their inactive scripts.

Choose strong passwords/permissions: if your password is easy to guess, you are going to find yourself in big trouble. Your passwords should be long and very hard to remember. Webmasters also need to make sure their files and directories have the right permissions to keep intruders out.

Use a safe computer: you can’t expect your website to survive hack attacks if you are using an infected computer to access it. Malware is your enemy here. Never use a computer that may be infected to log on to your site.

Secure your database: not only you should take time to secure your files and directories, you should also make sure your database is secure and clean of infections. Webmasters should make sure their database credentials are not easy to guess.

Work with a secure web host: perhaps the most important step you can take to keep your site protected against hack attacks. You should do extensive research before picking a web host for your website. It is a huge decision. Web hosts that are terrible when it comes to handling server security will end up causing your business a whole lot of heartache in the long run.

You may not be able to stop all hackers. But you shouldn’t make their job easier either. The above steps help webmasters keep their websites protected against common hack attacks.
