Chief Chick of Chickonomics, Lisa Orrell, this week launched her new podcast, Chickonomics Chat, the podcast designed for women. Every episode will include interviews with people on topics that impact women. Orrell’s guest line-up includes authors, women business leaders, women making an impact on society, women in politics, women in sports, women in entertainment and many more.

“I’ve really enjoyed hosting my other podcast, ‘Marketing Matters With M7,’ and now have subscribers spanning 6 countries,” explains Orrell. “But Chickonomics Chat has an even larger potential target audience so it’ll be exciting to watch it grow!”

Orrell describes Chickonomics Chat as a podcast version of talk-shows like “The View” or “The Oprah Show,” except that all topics she covers will be about, or directly impact, women. On every episode, Orrell will interview a guest on a specific topic that include: business, career, finances, parenting, sex, relationships, health, fitness, beauty, politics, current events, lifestyle, travel, entertainment, global issues/stories about women and more.

Jabbits Inc., the Denver-based innovator of webcam consumer research, has launched a new video question and answer tool that is likely to revolutionize video communications for both personal and business purposes, and bridge an existing gap between two major online services.

The new tool allows members of the Jabbits community to upload video of questions to which they are seeking answers, from webcams, mobile phones or camcorders. The free service allows other users to view those questions and upload answers, or ask questions of their own.

Jabbits users have the option to record a Public Question, posted to the entire community, or record a Private Question where answers are solicited in a private, invitation-only environment. Jabbits has been designed to bridge two fast-growing online categories - engaging video sites and interactive Q&A sites – and represents the first truly-integrated service of its kind.

Any question? Post it at Jabbits instead.

Remember the News Corp. and NBC Universal alliance that would result into an online video distribution giant company? AOL’s Advertising.com announced that it will be providing advertising management services partner for the company. Under the agreement, Advertising.com will provide comprehensive display and video advertising management and fulfillment for the new video site and for the dedicated video player embedded on that site as well as across its distribution partners. Advertising.com will leverage its Lightningcast video ad serving platform to deliver and manage advertising to support the thousands of hours of full-length programming, movies and clips that will be available across the network.

George Kliavkoff, NBC Universal Chief Digital Officer and interim leader of the newly announced strategic alliance, said, “The cross-platform nature and expansive reach of this new alliance make Advertising.com the right candidate to provide ad management services.”

We’re pleased to assist this groundbreaking new alliance with advertising fulfillment and inventory monetization,” said Lynda Clarizio, president of Advertising.com. “Not only will this new video network offer consumers access to an unprecedented catalog of top-notch programming, it will also provide advertisers with an online opportunity on par with the best in television and movie advertising.”

It seems that the giant is growing each day. I can’t wait to see when it starts to go after each other’s throat against you-know-who.

Lonely Planet is using Reality Digital Opus, a digital media hosting platform, to launch the LonelyPlanet.tv website, an online community featuring a combination of user-generated travel videos and original programming from Lonely Planet TV. Reality Digital Opus, the technology enabler for the new online channel, is providing Lonely Planet viewers with a more participatory environment that includes blogging, video sharing, forums, geo-location information and more.

With lonelyplanet.tv, Lonely Planet now has a web channel that features original produced travel programming alongside the clips uploaded by viewers. “The idea was to create a place where travelers could share their own videos from their DV cams or cell phones and share real travel experiences with other travelers, as well as commenting, rating and interacting in a variety of ways with both professional and user generated content,” said Sohail Dahdal, manager of LonelyPlanet.tv.

Apple is now shipping Apple TV, an easy to use and fun way to wirelessly play all your favorite iTunes content on to your widescreen TV, including movies, TV shows, music, photos and podcasts.

With Apple TV’s interface, anyone can quickly browse and view their entire collection of digital media from across the room using the simple and intuitive Apple Remote. Apple TV easily connects to almost all modern widescreen televisions.

“Apple TV is like a DVD player for the Internet age-providing an easy and fun way to play all your favorite iTunes content from your PC or Mac on your widescreen TV,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Apple TV allows you to wirelessly play your content from your PCs or Macs using your existing WiFi network as well as the newest and fastest version of WiFi-802.11n.”

The seamless integration of Apple TV and iTunes lets users choose from over 400 movies and 350 TV shows in near DVD quality; over four million songs; 5,000 music videos; 100,000 podcasts; and 20,000 audiobooks from the iTunes Store.

Enticing, true. But the next question, just like the gizmos that came out in the not so distant past is looking for supply. Start lining up now or better yet, wait until excitement dies down.

Voicethread.com, a website that captures the voices that surround shared media, is introducing Group Audio Blogging (GAB) to the Internet.

Voicethread is enabling users to create “voicebooks” much the same way a blogger would create a post or a page on a social networking site. While a blog is mostly written, a voicebook gives the distinct benefit of recorded group conversation. Here is a great example of a voicebook.

“We’ve taken the ‘instant’ out of Instant Messaging, and replaced it with the voices that surround evocative media,” said Steve Muth, Co-Founder of Voicethread. “Text is wonderful, but a human voice has an undeniable power.”

Here are other uses of a voicebook:

• Students can record their friends’ voices in an audio yearbook
• MySpace users can enhance their profiles and use voicebooks to leave recorded messages for their friends
• Service men and women deployed abroad can read a bed-time story to their children

“Voicebooks transform any image into a discussion that can be shared not only over the Web, but over time. Like a Tivo for voice conversations, you can contribute whenever you want,” said Ben Papell, Co-Founder of Voicethread.com. “The conversations are more thoughtful, they can be saved forever, and they’re easily shared.”

Ning, the free service that gives you the power to create your own social network for anything, today unveiled Ning Version 2, which brings together powerful new features and levels of customization not before offered by any social networking service.

On Ning, you mix and match your choice of features (for example, videos, photos, music, forums, profiles, and blogs) from an ever-growing list of options, customize every aspect of how your social network looks, add a logo if you have one, make it public or private, and offer your members the ability to make their profile pages uniquely their own.

“Today’s social networking services are fantastic, but they are very similar in approach to AOL, Compuserve, and Prodigy in the early nineties. They have a fixed and rigid view of what people can do,” says Marc Andreessen, co-founder and CTO of Ning. “The web is filled with people who want the freedom to create, to express themselves, and to connect with other people in new and interesting ways. Hopefully, Ning contributes in a small way to this growing freedom for everyone.”

Remember Lauren Elliott, author of the hugely successful “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” computer software series from way back?

He’s back and has launched Personal News Network (PNN), a new meda network that allows anyone to share stories, photos, videos and opinions on the web. “All of us have stories and opinions,” said Elliott, CEO of PNN. “Sharing these ideas with each other is what matters; the tools shouldn’t be a barrier.”

Lauren had a personal reason for starting PNN. “A couple of years ago I helped my mother, Eleanor Roosevelt II, put together stories about growing up with her aunt and famous namesake — Eleanor Roosevelt. The stories she told about putting a pony in FDR’s elevator in the White House, or ER staying up until 3:00 am every evening to answer her mail, are wonderful, personal accounts that you don’t soon forget. I realized then that it’s these kinds of stories, told by all of us, that needed to be shared. In a way, PNN is a result of that feeling,” said Elliot.

We live in a user generated world. On average about 40,000 new videos are uploaded to youTube everyday and millions are viewed. The quest to write the next great novel has been replaced with the desire to become the next great filmmaker. Traditionally the funding, production and distribution of movies has been an elitist pursuit which required large amounts of resources well beyond the reach of the average individual.

The digital revolution has made filmmaking possible for the masses. These days most computers ship with some type of video editing software. Thanks to improvements in imaging technology and falling prices, HD resolution cameras are becoming more common.

With all the advancements in technology the one side of filmmaking that has lagged behind is the concept of web based collaboration. Sure directors assemble a core team of collaborators, writers, producers, actors, editors and composers to name a few, but the current trend in social media has resulted in mostly passive user experiences until now.

An interesting emerging trend, is challenging the concept of how cinema is created. In the true spirit of community, some filmmakers are turning to “crowdsourcing” as a way to fund, produce, and distribute their movies.

One such cinema 2.0 experiment is a project entitled, A Swarm of Angels by UK filmmaker and author Matt Hanson. A Swarm of Angels is a “crowdsourced” filmmaking project where a community of people work together to create a feature length motion picture.

The movie is funded by the community itself. For a small subscription fee it is possible to become an Angel and collaborator to the project. Angels have a say in what happens from script to screen and in some cases may become cast or crew members when the project moves into production.

Currently, the project is in the script phase. Two rough scripts have been developed and the community will help to select one. Once a script is selected the Angels will assist in the fine tuning of a shooting draft.

Throughout the process there are multitudes of ways for Angels to be involved in the making of the movie. In some cases, Angels will fill various positions lending their expertise in exchange for pay. In others Angels will have a say in creative decisions based on community votes.

When the movie is finished, all the Angels will assist in distributing it for free over the internet. One of the goals of the project, which is distributed under a Creative Commons license, is for the assets to be viewed, shared and remixed. The heart of the project is http://www.aswarmofangels.com, a community site that features forums, podcasts, photo streams and an evolving narrative storyline that will eventually become the shooting script.

A Swarm of Angels offers a rare opportunity for those who have ever wondered what it would be like to make a movie. It is not often that one can collaborate freely without any financial risk.

There is no doubt that politicians around the world are getting wise to the benefits of using new media and in 2007 we’re likely to see this phenomenon truly take center stage. Just recently, John Edwards announced his presidential candidacy on YouTube and many of his US counterparts are quickly trying to harness their own online campaigns in a variety of ways.

No better example exists of a modern politician using the internet to get his message across, than with the UK Conservative Party Leader, Dave Cameron.
Last September, Mr Cameron launched his own website: Web Cameron. Featuring both a guest and an open blog, the site’s biggest attraction is its library of videos, mainly featuring the regular podcasts done by Mr Cameron himself. Here is his latest one-:

Only 40 years old, Mr Cameron is the first UK political leader to come from a generation that can truly call itself internet-savvy. As Leader of the Opposition, and with Tony Blair imminently stepping down as Prime Minister, many feel that all Cameron has to do in order to win the next election- is not be Blair or New Labour. The likely successor (albeit temporarily) to Blair’s throne is Gordon Brown, the current Chancellor- a hardened, political realist. But Brown has none of Blair’s charisma or ability to charm the media, and would sooner jump off a cliff than have live podcasts streaming from his personal website every week!

The British voting public is tired and cynical over “political spin”. They feel used and abused by Tony Blair and his spin doctors, most infamously Alistair Campbell, who have twisted and turned one too many a truth into a juicy tabloid headline- leading to an almost complete meltdown of voter enthusiasm or trust. This represents a danger to all parties, including Mr Cameron, with voters no longer willing to extend the benefit of the doubt to politicians in general.

The other dangers that Mr Cameron faces with the voters is that he is perceived as “elitist” and “inexperienced”. From a wealthy family, he graduated from Eton and Oxford, while his wife, Samantha, is an Astor by birth (Waldorf Astoria, Winston Churchill…) and there is no arguing about the fact that the Camerons are “aristocrats”. In modern Britain, this soon translates into “snobs” who are “out of touch” and unable to identify with the common folk’s everyday problems. His work experience has been largely limited to one job- under Michael Green, at Carlton TV.

There is no doubt that Mr Cameron uses his podcasts as a way of soothing the voters’ fears on these three points. His opening podcast, done from his kitchen- while he is washing the dishes and kids screaming in the background - is ALL about saying “hey people- I’m like you - an ordinary guy..”. His site then has a “Ask David” section, where readers send in their tough questions, which are displayed unedited, and answered by Mr Cameron “live”. In other words: “I’m not like Tony Blair- distorting and spinning everything through my PR team- I’m here to answer your concerns head on.” And with his trip to India and the subsequent podcasting and blogging coverage- Mr Cameron is answering his critics again: “I may be young, but I’m a man of the world with new, fresh ideas…”.

Political manipulation, using new media, taken to a new level? You decide. It’s working for Mr Cameron, though, so far…..just see the latest polls in the UK.

We’ll leave the last words to Dave Cameron himself, and his take on blogging and new media-:

Blogging has been a real revelation. It’s been so exciting for me to feel I can talk directly to you through words and video. Even more exciting was logging on and seeing all your comments day by day. I’ve got no doubt it will be a central part of our activities over the next few years. The challenge for me personally will be to build in enough diary time to do it properly.…

Mansions of the Lord, by Randall Wallace, performed by the West Point Choir

To fallen soldiers let us sing
where no rockets fly nor bullets wing
Our broken brothers let us bring
to the mansions of the Lord

No more bleeding no more fight
No prayers pleading through the night
just divine embrace, eternal light
in the mansions of the Lord

Where no mothers cry and no children weep
We will stand and guard tho the angels sleep
All through the ages safely keep the mansions of the Lord
