Not much of the brouhaha started earlier this week has diminished. Everyone’s still talking about the controversial, satirical New Yorker cover and reacting to the multitude of reactions including a few take-offs.While the Heath Ledger Oscar-hype may be waning a bit, early estimates of The Dark Knight preview profit may have set a new preview record thanks to devotees. There was more drama off-screen between honchos Jeff Zucker and Harvey Weinstein than onscreen for Project Runway’s season premiere, which started off with a predictable cut.

Jann Wenner wants to know. Recently the Rolling Stone magazine founder sent test issues--a smaller, sleeker version of the current issue--and surveys to select magazine subscribers asking them for a critique. Statements to agree/disagree with in the survey include "The magazine felt less 'cool' than the regular issue of Rolling Stone" and "The magazine felt new and fresh" and so on. Perhaps this redesign will make more of a cultural impact than 2002's efforts.

Tonight the 5^th season of "Project Runway" kicks off. For now we can enjoy the on-camera drama of regulars Michael Kors, Nina Garcia, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn without the distraction of the off-camera stuff. Look for guest celebrity judges like designer Diane Von Furstenberg, Brooke Shields and yes, ...RuPaul. Not to mention the 16 determined contestants. New features include “First Look,” a photo essay spotlighting exclusive shots of upcoming projects; “Inside the Mind of…,” a profile-esque column on what inspires stars; and on the back page “The Must List,” a selection of staff top picks each week. Design changes include facelifts for News & Notes, Pop Style and DVDs that are fresh and streamlined. At the helm of these new designs is John Korpics, former design director of In Style magazine, Esquire magazine and EW (1996-1999).
