is a multidisciplinary project that explores graphic qualities in process of playing on a drum kit. Besides being a musician, drummer when playing is unconsciously engaged in an elaborate choreography. The drum sticks are the extensions of drummer’s hands like a brush is an extension of the painter’s hand. Motion-captured movements become a visual map over a time revealing fragile rhythm structures and invisible notations behind energetic instrumental solo. ‘Portrait of a Ghost Drummer’ expands the understanding of drummers activity from purely auditory experience to spontaneous visual performance. From technical point of view motion trajectory was captured on Vicon MX system and raw CSV files were translated into visual language in 3d environment Cinema4D. My self-developed technique is inspired by areas such as drumming notation, action painting, choreography, japanese calligraphy and 3d digital drawing. Most important for me is that it gives me true feeling that I am my drawing.

“When I am in my painting, I’m not aware of what I’m doing. It is only after a sort of ‘get acquainted’ period that I see what I have been about. I have no fear of making changes, destroying the image, etc., because the painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through. It is only when I lose contact with the painting that the result is a mess. Otherwise there is pure harmony, an easy give and take, and the painting comes out well.”

— Jackson Pollock, My Painting, 1956 (source: wikipedia)

I worked on this animation during my recent artistic residency at Culture Lab in Newcastle.
For the past few years, SnapRoll Media has been at the forefront of remotely controlled aerial camera systems. Like most, hey started out using DSLR cameras to record video, but it wasn’t long before the image quality wasn’t up to their standards. they began designing and building larger airframes to carry the weight of the cameras they and their clients wanted to use.

Their hard work paid off. they were the first to successfully carry the RED ONE digital cinema camera safely and smoothly. Then, they added Vision Research’s Phantom Flex and Phantom Gold high speed cameras to their arsenal. Furthermore, they had the opportunity to be the first in the world to successfully fly the new RED EPIC on their proven remote controlled aerial system thanks to Jarred Land and Jim Jannard.

They are constantly researching, developing, and fine tuning their helicopters to carry larger cameras with maximum stability. The greatest reward is seeing their clients’ faces when they get the shot that no crane, cable cam, or full size helicopter was able to capture. 2012 will be full of incredible projects along with further R&D on bigger and better remotely controlled (RPV) aerial camera systems. Stay tuned!

The story of an Iranian ostrich farmer who, in an effort to aid his hearing impaired daughter, turns to a different, character changing line of work.

When the farmer focuses on replacing his daughter’s hearing aid, which breaks right before crucial exams, everything changes for a struggling rural family in Iran. Karim motorbikes into a world alien to him - incredibly hectic Tehran, where sudden opportunities for independence, thrill and challenge him. But his honor and honesty, plus traditional authority over his inventive clan, are tested, as he stumbles among vast cultural and economic gaps between his village nestled in the desert, and a throbbing international metropolis.

Using mobile audio/video units, technicians traveled the world, recording local musicians outdoors in towns and cities worldwide. In addition, musicians from all over the world are now brought together to perform benefit concerts that build music and art schools in communities in need. The special premieres August 1 and airs throughout August 2009 on most PBS stations. Check local listings for dates and times in your area at pbs.org. You can help PBS continue to offer everyone — from every walk of life — the opportunity to experience amazing performances and explore new ideas through television and online content.
Gimme Shelter

The song “Gimme Shelter” expresses the urgency we all face to unite together as a planet, and offers us wisdom with the words “War, children, it’s just a shot away… Love, sister, it’s just a kiss away.” It really is that simple.

Mr Badii (Homayon Ershadi), a middle-aged man, drives through Tehran looking for someone to do a job for him, and he offers a large amount of money in return. During his drives with prospective candidates, Badii reveals that he plans to kill himself and has already dug the grave. He needs someone to throw earth on his body, after his death. He does not discuss why he wants to commit suicide. His first recruit is a young, shy Kurdish soldier, who refuses to do the job and flees from Badii’s car. His second recruit is an Afghan seminarist, who also declines because he has religious objections against suicide. The third is an Azeri taxidermist. He is willing to help Badii, but tries to talk him out of it; he reveals that he too wanted to commit suicide a long time ago but chose to live when he tasted mulberries. The Azeri promises to throw earth on Badii if he finds him dead in the morning. That night, Badii lies in his grave while a thunderstorm begins.
