Contrary to what some of you may be thinking by now, no I am not dead or in a coma :-) Things have just been very busy for me recently with wedding stuff coming up so quickly!

Hacked

Well, shame on me for being lazy about keeping up with the latest WordPress upgrades on my server. It seems as if someone has gotten into my dashboard and done a little damage. It seems like most of the posts are intact, but they’ve deleted all my pages (the about page, for example) and did some other nasties on the backend (like disable my spam filter, twice!).

But all is well now. I’ve upgraded to 2.3.3 and changed my password. Hopefully this will be the end of this little fight. This site has a very high Google PageRank, which tends to attract the a-holes of the internet. Hopefully, when I get all my old free WordPress themes transferred to NathanRice.net, the links will start pointing there instead of here (although if the WordPress theme viewer stays broken, that may not help very much).

Headaches

I probably spend 12+ hours a day looking at a computer screen, and it’s starting to take its toll. I’ve been experiencing painful headaches lately, so it looks like I need to use my computer for work only for a while. Blog posts will be short and infrequent until the headaches subside.

Let’s Face It, He’s a Political Phenom

In 2004, I watched Barack Obama give the keynote speech (part 1 | part 2) at the Democratic National Convention. I told my mom, and later I mentioned it to Meredith (who I had just started dating), that he would be the next President of the United States.

Little did I know that he would be SO good at politics. He’s a phenomenon, sweeping the country with enthusiasm and passion. Empty though his rhetoric is, the man inspires. He gives people goosebumps, has and amazing following, and has followers with religious devotion to his campaign. Take a look for yourself:

You gotta admit … it’s hard not to like the guy. But please, don’t vote for him. You know why (and it has nothing to do with his race or his name).

Income Taxes …

… are my single largest monthly expense. Literally, 1 out 6 working hours are done in order to pay the government.

When are we going to wake up and realize that income taxes don’t just suck, they are a form of modern citizen slavery! But instead of working a plantation at the tip of a whip, we work a blue collar job and are forced to hand over our wages by the threat of prison.

Do you believe the Bible is inspired … because the Bible says it’s inspired?

If it wasn’t inspired, then the fact that it says it’s inspired wouldn’t mean much would it?

Is the entire idea of “inspiration” mere circular logic? Think about it.

Does it bother you that when Paul wrote that all scripture is inspired, our entire Bible had not yet been penned?

Does it bother you that the criteria for canonization were entirely extra-biblical?

What’s the point of this post? I just wanted to remind myself that I’m not always right. Many times, as experience shows, mere months later I realize how incredibly wrong I was, and the taste of my own foot is a fair reminder of this fact.

I’ve Been Published

Well, sort of.

A couple of days ago, I was reading the local paper. One of my favorite sections is the Letters to the Editor section, and I make sure I read that every single morning. This particular morning, I read a very interesting story that, as you can imagine, I didn’t think could go without a response.

So, I figured out how to send a letter to the editor, and promptly began writing. This is what I wrote.

Is it weird that I’m kinda excited that they decided to publish my very first attempt to write a letter to the editor? I’m totally clipping this and sticking it to my refrigerator.
