Blogger Hacks: Using an image as link for Expandable post hack

Here's an alternative link for the Expandable Post hack ( Summarized Post ). Instead of the "read more" link, you can use an image if you want to make it more visible. If you haven't implemented the Summarized post hack yet, you can apply it by following the instructions here. I prefer using an image cause it adds color to the overall design of your blog.

So here are the simple steps to follow on changing your "read more hyperlink" into an image.

1. First is to have your image or button as link for the summarized post. I recommend to make your button in Adobe Photoshop. I'll post ready to use "Read more..." buttons in the next update.

2. Go to edit HTML under layout tab.

3. Check the "expand widget templates" box

4. Search for the Read more line or the text you used as link for the summarized post

5. Replace it with this code:

7. Preview your template.

8. Save.

18 Common Mistakes that Violate Google Adsense TOS

Google Adsense publishers often commit common mistakes that could ban their Adsense account. When you get ban, you can't register anymore. According to Wikipedia, Google AdSense is an advertisement application run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and more recently, video advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis.

There are well defined terms of service to strictly adhere to when participating in the program.

When i browse others site, often see ads that violate the Terms of use(TOS) of Google adsense. I compiled some of the common mistakes of some bloggers and each and every one of it are very important. These adsense faq are all picked from the Program Policies, Terms and Conditions and FAQ itself and presented in a simplified manner.

1. Never click your own adsense ads or get them clicked for whatever reason. You know this one very well. This is a surefire way to close you Adsense account. Never tell your office associates or friends to click on them. Keep a check if your family or children are busy increasing your income by clicking your ads and indirectly trying to stop your income. Dont even think of offering incentives for clicks, using automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. Adsense is very smart to detect fraudulent clicks. Check the ads which appear on your pages by the Google Preview tool if required.

2. Never change the Adsense code. There are enough means of adsense optimization & customizations available to change the colour, background or border to suit your needs. Do whatever you want to do outside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code. They know it when you do. The search code has more limitations to colour and placement, but you should adhere to the rules. The code may stop working and violates the TOS.

3. Do not place more than 3 ad units and 3 ad links or 2 adsense search boxes on any web page. Anyway, ads will not appear in those units even if you place more ad units. But this is the limit they set, so it is better to stick to it.

4. Do not run competitive contextual text ad or search services on the same site which offer Google Adsense competition in their field. Never try to create link structures resembling the adsense ads. Never use other competitive search tools on the same pages which have Adsense powered Google search. They do allow affiliate or limited-text links. Update: Google has allowed you to run contextual advertising like Yahoo ads, Chitika etc provided the ads do not resemble Adsense ads.

5. Do not disclose confidential information about your account like the CTR, CPM and income derived via individual ad units or any other confidential information they may reveal to you. However, you may reveal the total money you make as per recent updates to the TOS.

6. Label headings as “sponsored links” or “advertisements” only. Other labels are not allowed. I have seen many sites label ads with other titles. Dont make your site a target in a few seconds gaze.

7. Never launch a New Page for clicked ads by default. Adsense ads should open on the same page. You may be using a base target tag to open all links in a new window or frame by default. Correct it now as they do not want new pages opening from clicked ads.

8. One Account suffices for Multiple websites. You do not need to create 5 accounts for 5 different websites. One account will do. If you live in the fear that if one account is closed down for violation of TOS, believe me they will close all accounts when they find out. You can keep track of clicks by using channels with real time statistics. They will automatically detect the new site and display relevant ads.

9. Place ads only on Content Pages. Advertisers pay only for content based ads. Content drives relevant ads. Although you might manage some clicks from error, login, registration, “thank you” or welcome pages, parking pages or pop ups, it will get you out of the program.

10. Do not mask ad elements. Alteration of colours and border is a facility to blend or contrast ads as per your site requirements. I have seen many sites where the url part is of the same colour as the background. While blending the ad with your site is a good idea, hiding relevant components of the ads is not allowed. Also do not block the visibility of ads by overlapping images, pop ups, tables etc.

11. Do not send your ads by email. Html formatted emails look good and allow placement of these javascript ads. But it is not allowed as per TOS. You do not want impressions registering on their logs from any email even once. They are watching!

12. Keep track of your content. So Adsense is not allowed on several non content pages. But it is also not allowed on several content pages too. Do not add it on web pages with MP3, Video, News Groups, and Image Results. Also exclude any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content.

13. Do not alter the results after ad clicks or searches. Ensure you are not in any way altering the site which the user reaches to after clicking the ads. Do not frame, minimize, remove, redirect or otherwise inhibit the full and complete display of any Advertiser Page or Search Results Page after the user clicks on any Ad or Search results.

14. Avoid excessive advertising and keyword stuffing. Although the definition of ‘excessive’ is a gray area and is subject to discretion, yet Google adsense with correct placement, focused content and high traffic will get you much more income than other programs, so excessive advertising is not required. Keyword stuffing does target better focused ads, but overdoing it is not required.

15. Ensure you Language is Supported. Adsense supports “Chinese (simplified), Japanese, Danish, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, English, Polish, Finnish, Portuguese, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Hungarian, Swedish, Italian and Turkish”. In addition, AdSense for search is available in Czech, Slovak, and Traditional Chinese. If your web pages language is not supported, do not use the code on such pages.

16. Maximum 2 referral button per product per page.With the launch of the google adsense referral program, you are allowed to put only 2 referral buttons for adsense referral, adwords referral, Google pack and Firefox with google toolbar referral. Update: This feature is closing Aug 2008.

17. Do not specify Google ads as your alternate ads. Several services like Chitika eminimalls allow you to place alternate urls, when a targeted paying ad cannot be displayed. This involved creating an simple html page and putting the ad to be displayed instead. Even Adsense allows an alternate url feature instead of displaying public service ads. But never use Adsense ads as alternate urls.

18. Do not confuse with adjacent images. It was a common policy to increase CTR by placing same number of images as the number of text ads, which falsely gave the impression that the text ads represented an explanation to these images. Inserting a small space or a line between the images and ads is not allowed. Make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors. More.

Whenever in doubt, it is better to ask for adsense help from the learned staff of Google Adsense. They are very helpful!

Have you ever imagine how much page impressions you would get if your ads are near your blog posts? How bout if your ads are INSIDE your posts? Here are the steps in implementing these simple hack in blogger.

Steps in putting adsense between posts:

1. 1st, copy your Adsense in a notepad and parse it.

2. Go to Edit HTML under the layout tab and click on the "Expand widgets template" check box.

Demonoid.com - Best torrent site

I see many people frustrated having a demonoid account. When i see blogposts offering free invitations, people's comments are all the same ("Can you send me an invitation?"). So i try visiting that site. I found out that the registrations are closed and only an invitation code from an existing user can only help you have an account.

So what is this site offering?
Demonoid is a torrent site where you can download programs, music, videos and etc. Only difference from other torrent site is that, torrent leechers are also required to seed.
Good news here is i have already my demonoid account, and im waiting for my "Invitation Codes" to generate. For those people who want one, reply here with your email and speedtest.net screenshot.

Base on my experience, newly created blogs or websites dont have there pagerank (pagerank N/A or not available. This may take few weeks or months. Blogger Hacks: Tag Cloud or Label Cloud for blogger

One of my readers was asking me about the tag cloud and label cloud. These feature is originally from wordpress but the good news is, We can also do it on Blogger! Cool isn't it? :D The original idea of this hack was from Phydeaux3. Really appreciated this hack. Thanks Phydeaux3 for making this hack possible. Hence, I made the instructions step-by-step, more simpler and precise so that new bloggers would understand and do it well.

Note: For this hack to work, you should already have installed Labels Widget( Blogger feature) and labeled posts.

Steps on making a Tag Cloud/ Label Cloud

1. Before anything else, Make a Back-up of your template. Download the full template in edit HTML under layout tab.

2. Go to Edit HTML and DON'T tick the "Expand widgets" box.

3. Locate this closing tag(1):

4. Copy the code number 1 HERE and paste it BEFORE the closing tag(1).

5. We're going to place another code. Locate the closing tag(2):

6. Copy the code number 2 HERE and paste it BEFORE the closing tag(2).

Then the Widget itself. Locate the line below:
Note: If you can't find the code below, maybe you haven't installed the labels widget.

7. Copy the code number 3 HERE and REPLACE THE LINE ABOVE:

Preview your template and see if your Label widget in vertical alignment become expanded like words inside a cloud. Then, you've made it!

If you encounter an error, maybe you missed or deleted something.
Upload the backup template and try starting all over again.

Label Cloud Settings

You can adjust the settings of your Label Cloud. The color, the sizes, you can change it! Depends upon you. If you want to blend it to your background image, your header or the template in whole. If you wish to do so follow the instructions below.

Locate this lines in "Edit HTML"

(If you can still remember, this is the Label Cloud code 2)

Explanation:

var cloudMin = 1;

The default setting is one. This means that it show ALL labels. If you put a number GREATER than one. Let's say you put 2, only 2 labels will be show on your cloud.

var maxFontSize
var maxColor

These 2 variable has something to do with the MOST NUMBERED LABELS USED or MOST NUMBERED ENTRIES. The values input in maxColor is in RGB format meaning ( 0 red, 0 green and 255 blue - based on the default setting).

var minFontSize
var minColor

This time, with the LEAST NUMBERERED LABELS USED. Very related on the explanation above.

varIcShowCount

The default setting is false meaning you dont want to show the number of entries in that label or tag. Otherwise, change false to true.

How to edit "blog posts" blocked by page elements

Having a hard time moving page elements just to click on the edit button on blog posts.? You'll experience this when you have lots of page elements on your sidebar. So i find a way and discovered this very simple trick. :D

Shortcut to edit blog posts in page elements:

1. Know your BlogID. Usually seen in address bar when you click on any tab( posting, setting, layout) or previewing your blog.

2. Copy your blogID and replace it with my blogID in red color.

I was looking for a cool RSS icon to be put on my sidebar yesterday. While searching, i suddenly thought what if i make a list websites offering free RSS icons to lessen your effort searching your style and color. Some of them are in PNG, PSD(photoshop) and PDF format.

Blogger Hacks: Hide blog title and description

Blog title and description is very important in every blog. Search engines when indexing your blog use the title and description tags. But sometimes, there is a need of hiding them especially when you are using a header image. So here are two ways in doing this.

1st Option
This option is only applicable if your going to put a solid header image that will completely hide your title and description.

1. Go to "Page Elements" under the layout tab.

2. Click "Edit" on the title page element usually found BELOW the navbar page element on the top.

3. Upload your header image if haven't done it already and click on the radio button "behind title and description" under placement.

4. Save changes and view your blog.
Note: If this option doesn't work for you. You may use the 2nd option below.

2nd Option

1. Go to edit HTML under Layout and locate the following code:

#header h1 {
margin:5px 5px 0;
padding:15px 20px .25em;
display:none; /*<---Hiding blog title and description*/
}

2. Insert the line colored in red as seen above.

3. Save Template. Done!

If you don't where this links are located, they are usually at the bottom part of the post. If you have enough links in your sidebar or somewhere in your blog you can delete this if you want. To completely delete this follow this simple steps below.

Steps in Deleting the Older and Newer posts link text:

1. Go to edit HTML under layout tab and tick the "Expand Widgets template" box.

2. Locate the code below and simple delete it.

This links are usually seen on the bottom part of the page. This is an alternative link for readers to navigate to all of your posts unless you don't have widgets linking you to your other posts. You may want to change it to an attention getter link for them to see your valuable posts and your hardwork that is not seen in the home page. So here's how to do it.

Steps in Changing "Older and Newer Posts" link text

1. Download you template(for backup) in edit HTML under layout tab.

2. Now that your in Edit HTML, tick the "Expand Widget box".

A.Changing the Older Posts link text:

A.1. Locate this code below:

B.2 Like step number 2 above, change the code highlighted in red with your chosen text. :D

3. Preview and see if there is an error and changes. :D If you encounter an error go back to the line you have edited and see if you have deleted some angle brackets ( > , < )
If you really fix the error, just upload the template(backup) and try to follow again the steps above. :D

Blogger Hacks: Changing the name "Labels" in your posts

Labels in posts usually located under each of your posts. There is a way of changing its name if you like other terms like categories or tags. If you wish to change it, i'll show you to do it.

Steps in changing the name labels below each posts:

1. First is to download your template. Download Full template in edit HTML under layout tab.

2. Tick the "Expand Widget templates" box.

3. Locate the code below:

3. Delete this line and replace with your chosen text.

Done!
