I managed to try Etching, Intaglio and Lithography and missed out on Silk Screen printing.<br /><br />Soon after I got myself a copy of Judy Martin's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0855329874?ie=UTF8&tag=blogschmlog-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0855329874">The Encyclopedia of Printmaking Techniques</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=blogschmlog-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0855329874" alt="" style="border: medium none ! important; margin: 0px ! important;" border="0" height="1" width="1" /> with plans of exploring further. But until I stumbled across <a href="http://belindadelpesco.blogspot.com/">Belinda del Pesco</a>'s site and <a href="http://reviews.ebay.com/Monotypes-amp-Monoprints-Printmaking-methods_W0QQugidZ10000000000120900">write-up on monotypes</a>, printmaking had got shelved for other art priorities. Printing supplies did not seem to be available and so I put in a request for Lino boards assuming that these would be to easier to locate. Well, I havent been successful as yet!<br /><br />The last couple of weeks I've been surfing furiously and through a post on <a href="http://www.wetcanvas.com/">wetcanvas</a> (i think!) came to this <a href="http://americanart.si.edu/collections/exhibits/monotypes/index.html">Smithsonian's resource on Monotypes</a>. There are 12 short video clips explaining what they are, how they are made, the difference between these and monoprints and there is a gallery of work on display. I'm putting both these up here in case any of you are also feeling adventurous. Julia Ayers book on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0823031284?ie=UTF8&tag=blogschmlog-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0823031284">Monotype: Mediums and Methods for Painterly Printmaking</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=blogschmlog-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0823031284" alt="" style="border: medium none ! important; margin: 0px ! important;" border="0" height="1" width="1" /> is on its way to me.<br /><br />I'm impatient as usual। Waiting for months is just not my scene and I think <a href="http://drawtheline.wordpress.com/2007/09/14/my-first-monotype/">I'm going to experiment</a>. Results will be up on my blog soon. If any of you do try making monoprints do leave me a link back to your work and if you have any other resources / recommendations do let me know.<br /><br />Update: <span style="font-weight: bold;">July 9, 2007</span>: Robin of <a href="http://rednews5.blogspot.com/">Rednews</a> has left a comment with a very useful link - <a href="http://www.edition-handdruck.de/">Monotypien</a> - Martin Stankewitz's blog with beautiful Monotypes and Pen & Ink Illustrations. I first saw a copy of Gray's Anatomy in my sisters hand. She was in medical college and every student world over has had a copy to study.<br /><br />Much later, when I saw a reference to it on <a href="http://www.bartleby.com/">Bartleby.com</a> off I went to investigate. There I found an incredible figure drawing resource - 1247 engravings from Henry Gray's "Anatomy of the Human Body" for you to access online. Use it to study, draw or sculpt the skeleton, the muscles that cover them and how our joints move. At least those are my plans :D Here's a <a href="http://www.bartleby.com/107/indexillus.html">link</a><a href="http://www.bartleby.com/107/indexillus.html"> to an index of these engravings</a>.<br /><br />Happy Figure Drawing!Ujwala Prabhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14397911852628931691noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923555.post-64451206775410327632007-02-06T18:31:00.000+07:002007-02-06T23:10:35.791+07:00Drawing - Begin from the beginning<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ujwala/380452801/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/123/380452801_a8d159db9e.jpg" alt="Vishal - Take 3" height="500" width="388" /></a><br /><br />More learning to draw links. It's called <a href="http://www.suite101.com/">Suite 101</a> and has lessons on a whole bunch of subjects ranging from architecture to modern history to world theater. They also have a section on Painting and Drawing under Visual arts. I have selected the lessons by <a href="http://www.suite101.com/profile.cfm/brisbaneartist">Joan Martine Murphy</a> whose lessons I've started reading. I found them interesting and I hope you do too.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.suite101.com/course.cfm/17130/lessons">Drawing Lessons by Joan Martine Murphy</a><br />Lesson 1: <a href="http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/17130/470">Getting Started - An Introduction to Journaling. </a><br />Lesson 2: <a href="http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/17130/472">Line An Essential Ingredient.</a><br />Lesson 3: <a href="http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/17130/474">Creating Depth</a><br />Lesson 4: <a href="http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/17130/473">Colour</a><br />Lesson 5: <a href="http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/17130/477">Transparency, Reflections, Shadows and the Art Of Illusion.</a><br />Lesson 6: <a href="http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/17130/482">Abstract methods:</a><br />Lesson 7: <a href="http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/17130/493">Gestalt - Something More Than The Sum of the Parts</a><br />Lesson 8: <a href="http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/17130/483">Collage Creation.</a>Ujwala Prabhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14397911852628931691noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923555.post-67353270819780131332006-12-17T19:09:00.000+07:002007-07-09T06:08:21.511+07:00Painting - The BasicsIn my <a href="http://blogschmlog.blogspot.com/2006/11/learning-to-draw.html">last post</a>, I had talked about an incredible source for lessons in Painting. <a href="http://www.sovek.com/">Charles Sovek</a> has very generously made his book, <a href="http://www.sovek.com/view/basics/index.htm">The Basics</a>, available on the web, for free, from the very beginning. I'd asked him to join the <a href="http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=335">WetCanvas! Classroom forum</a> and to look up some additional sources from this site.<br /></p>This morning I got a newsletter from <a href="http://www.drawspace.com/">drawspace</a> . I find that it is growing to be a wonderful online resource for drawing lessons. These are divided into 3 levels - beginners, intermediate and advanced. drawspace also has a forum which is slowly growing and the activities are focussed on drawing with pencil, charcoal, color pencils and pen & ink. All the lessons have been written by one person and you have a choice of viewing it for free online or downloading the pdf version for a small fee. Brenda Hoddinott whose lessons populate this website is amongst other things a self taught artist. She is currently working on a new website along similar lines for Fine Art.<br /><br />Today, Mayank has got an update with details of this site as an alternative and few other suggestions one of which I shall put in a fresh post as it is worth its weight in gold for anybody wanting to paint.Ujwala Prabhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14397911852628931691noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923555.post-1162445168326994062006-11-02T11:58:00.001+07:002006-12-10T23:12:12.551+07:00Make Digital Art<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ujwala/286511171/" title="Photo Sharing"><img style="width: 380px; height: 315px;" src="http://static.flickr.com/109/286511171_19d021afb9.jpg" alt="corel painter" /></a><br /><br />Haven't had a go at making art digitally? There seem to be many successful artists, who also share their expertise, with that name. I only wish I'd take the hint! <a href="http://www.rebekahlynn.com/">Rebekah Lynn</a> has several other <a href="http://www.rebekahlynn.com/free/tutorial/">tutorials</a> too. Rebecca Alzofon of <a href="http://academicfigure.com/">Academic Figure</a> workshops and classes has put together a tutorial on <a href="http://www.art.net/Studios/visual/Rebecca/LifeDrawing1.html">Gesture</a> drawing, what it is, why it is important and how to go about it. The tutorial is animated and easy to understand.</p>I had tagged her site a while ago but remembered it again only when i saw a <a href="http://puregumspirits.blogspot.com/2006/04/technique-of-pierre-paul-prudhon.html">reference</a> to a study that she'd put together on <a href="http://www.art.net/Studios/visual/Rebecca/OnPrudon1.html">Pierre-Paul Prud'hon</a>. The article is on her interpretation of his style, technique and approach to figure drawing. She has subsequently updated the article <a href="http://www.art.net/Studios/visual/Rebecca/NewImages/AAarticle1.html">here</a>.<br /><br />Tags:<a href="http://del.icio.us/ujwala/BlogSchmlog+gesture" rel="tag"> gesture</a> <a href="http://del.icio.us/ujwala/BlogSchmlog+figure" rel="tag">figure</a> <a href="http://del.icio.us/ujwala/BlogSchmlog+drawing" rel="tag">drawing</a> <a href="http://del.icio.us/ujwala/BlogSchmlog+anatomy" rel="tag">anatomy</a> <a href="http://del.icio.us/ujwala/BlogSchmlog+rebecca+alzofon" rel="tag">rebecca+alzofon</a> <a href="http://del.icio.us/ujwala/BlogSchmlog+ujwala" rel="tag">ujwala</a>Ujwala Prabhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14397911852628931691noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923555.post-1144694918501950042006-04-11T01:48:00.000+07:002007-03-05T00:59:04.223+07:00Ingres to Degas<div style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;"> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ujwala/126484355/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/46/126484355_e78b0486f5_m.jpg" alt="" style="border: 2px solid rgb(0, 0, 0); width: 370px; height: 273px;" /></a><br /><span style="margin-top: 0px;font-size:0;" > <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ujwala/126484355/">Ingres to Degas</a><br />Originally uploaded by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/ujwala/">HughPee</a>.</span><br /><br />The Essence of Line is a collection of drawings by 19th century French artists. And you can easily do that from <a href="http://www.ambientdesign.com/artragedown.html">here</a> as they have a free version. Not diabled, not watermarked but with fewer functions.</p><br /><p>You click on the icon and you are ready to begin. Play around with oils, chalks, pencils, felt pens, and other tools! Art Rage 2.0 is a painting program with a difference. Its free, easy to use and it reacts to you instantly. Just the ease of use and speed make it like none I've tried before. For about $20, it is a steal. And if you're happy with the features in the free version then you have an even better bargain.</p><br /><p>Dont take my word for it, go <a href="http://www.ambientdesign.com/artragedown.html">try it out</a>. or check out these reviews of outrageously good at <a href="http://www.applematters.com/index.php/section/comments/artrage_outrageously_good/">Apple Matters</a> and Amazing by Windows user <a href="http://www.cartoonmonkey.com/mt2/2006/01/artrage_20_the_review.html">From the Eyes of an Artist</a></p><br /><p>I'm waiting for my tablet to arrive to post better results but the pict posted is of me trying my hand at painting, using my mouse, with oil as the medium and brush, knife and felt pen as my tools.</p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><p><a href="www.ambient%3Cbr">design.com/artragedown.html">Download Art Rage 2.0</a></p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><p>Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/art%20rage%202.0" rel="tag">art rage 2.0</a>, <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/software" rel="tag">software</a>, <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/mac%20os%20x" rel="tag">mac os x</a>, <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/windows" rel="tag">windows</a>, <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/outstanding" rel="tag">outstanding</a>, <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/painting" rel="tag">painting</a>, <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/brush" rel="tag">brush</a>, <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/tablet" rel="tag">tablet</a>, <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/free" rel="tag">free</a> <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/inexpensive" rel="tag"></a><a href="http://technorati.com/tag/steal" rel="tag"></a><a href="http://technorati.com/tag/bargain" rel="tag"></a></p><br /><br /><br />powered by <a href="http://performancing.com/firefox">performancing firefox</a>Ujwala Prabhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14397911852628931691noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923555.post-1143008847557246622006-03-22T19:39:00.000+07:002006-10-30T18:37:01.926+07:00Facial Expressions<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ujwala/116220138/" title="Photo Sharing"><img style="width: 372px; height: 279px;" src="http://static.flickr.com/45/116220138_b7e0e36a24.jpg" alt="Facial Expressions" /></a><br /><br /><p>I think this is a fantastic learning tool for drawing as well as sculpting. <b><span style="font-size: x-small;">drawing by Danny Gregory</span></b><br />
<br />
<br />
Danny Gregory's article and the comments that follow makes for an interesting read. I found <a href="http://www.dannygregory.com/2006/01/photo.php">the article</a> raised points that I had not looked at. It is quite absorbing and so is the <a href="http://digitalphotography.weblogsinc.com/2006/01/25/strange-bedfellows-drawing-and-photography/">write-up</a> on it on the <a href="http://digitalphotography.weblogsinc.com/">Digital Photography</a> site. <br />
<br />
<br />
But I must admit that I do not agree with him. Drawing from Photographs and from Life are two different methods and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. I do both and would not like to stop either or run down either method. Having said that, the article is definitely worth a read.<br />
