The frustration, depression, and apathy of the past six months or so have immobilized me. As a result, I've put on enough weight to make all of my clothes uncomfortable, and my joints hurt. As night thins into morning, I feel the familiar warmth of Lenny beside me. With my eyes still shut, I roll onto my side to curl my body around his, slipping my arm over him and pulling him close to me.

To some people, that means going by car or bus instead of flying. But I prefer to go even slower. My favorite ways to travel are by bicycle or on foot (horseback would be good, too). Some would guess the reasons I enjoy those means of travel have something to do with physical activity, or challenge, or just being outdoors, and they'd be right. But there's something more --

A local resident had the idea of ringing bells to celebrate our country's freedom and remember those who fought to win that freedom for us. He didn't have much time to get the word out, but we went ahead with it anyway.

I've just welcomed a new granddaughter to the world. I'm happy to say that mom, dad, and baby are all doing well. I traveled 1,460 miles to be present at the big event, and even though the process did not unfold as the prospective parents had planned, we are all just happy that little Brooke is healthy.

The birth day was quite emotional for me, and I worked hard to keep the tears in check.

Yesterday when I went to paint the front of one room, there were some grasses hanging on a group of three clothespins on the line. The way the wind blows things around here, I didn't think much of it, and I knocked the grass off.

But already it's so hot. We haven't had much rain, and the grass is almost all brown. The leaves on the trees are getting droopy and yellow. We hear that over the summer, the entire hillside covered with trees will be brown. I gave up trying to grow vegetables. They can't stand up to the heat.

I flipped it back off and sent a text message to the boss. He examined it and found that the plastic cap was cracked. Of course, this is Culebra, so it's not like we can just run out to the store and get a new one. That's why he has a big garage full

He had made some sort of trade with the tour company and got three spaces on the kayaking/snorkeling tour in exchange. This tour company operates from the main island of Puerto Rico. They bring the customers over on the ferry in a small bus, while a pickup hauls all the gear.


At the appointed time, Tom's family and I went to

The presence of a stranger in their territory sent all the rest into hiding. After a couple weeks, I began seeing seeing iguanas and cats, but only at  distance. Now they are getting accustomed to my being around and aren't so quick to run.

A couple of guys stopped in today wanting to see a room and perhaps stay here. Jose met them on his way out and called me down to assist them.
