Luggage. An all time issue for air travellers. Less? Can take some more? More? God! How much it's going to cost? Can I take out some things n give to my family who came to drop me? What to take out? How much to take out? Total crazy thoughts topping up anxiety of leaving loved ones behind.

On ground floor at Cityside check in near Ratnadeep, there is a weighing machine for your luggage. Check weight n do whatever is required. You may also take a picture in case there is a difference at check in counter.

Lastly, it's always better to travel light n be comfortable.

Living with Diabetes

Diabetes. What is it? What's the remedy? Can be cured? Who gets it? Why? Are there any benefits of whatsoever in keeping it n maintaining it?

Every word in this blog represents my personal opinions, feelings, research, exposure observations, and experiences unless otherwise specifically mentioned.

I was diagnosed with 'Glucose intolerance' in 1996. The reason for testing was urinary infection. Doctor tried a couple of medications and still the infection didn't go away. So, my gyne asked me to go for a few tests and one of it was Glucose intolerance.

A little story behind all this. There will be a story or history for everything in general. Not to make the situation interesting but for better understanding of the context and the sequence.

I got married in 1996. Like any newly married couple, for various reasons, we wanted to plan our future and family. During that time in India, a contraceptive pill was introduced in the market. 'SAHELI'. The dosage is something like you take the pill for the first 3 months everyday and after that once a week. My MIL's Gyne prescribed that to me. After my Glucose intolerance test came positive, I started thinking about the pill. Eventually Saheli was taken off the market within one year. I am not sure why. Many years later, after a couple of abortions, one of the doctors told me that probably the high dosage of harmonies present in the contraceptive pill, my body had a shock n I became diabetic. The beginning. (???!!!!). [Possibility 1]

During my doctor's visits, there was always a list of standard questions.

1. Are you thirsty all the time ?

2. Are you always hungry?

3. Do you have often an urge to pass urine?

4. How good is your sleep?

5. How bad is your stress?

6. Do you smoke?

7. Do you drink? How often?

8. Are you a vegetarian? Non vegetarian?

Etc, Etc.

Then standard instructions -

1. Don't eat rice.

2. If you eat rice, not more ghan 100 grms per meal.

3. Don't drink buttermilk.

3. Don't eat sugar.

4. Don't eat bread.

5. Don't eat buiscuits.

6. Indian food is oily. (?!?) Don't eat curry.

7. Idli, no good. Don't eat.

8. Sambar no good. Don't eat.

9. Dal, peas, chickpea etc protein. Hurts kidney. Don't eat.

10. Don't stress.

11. Don't. . . . . . .

12. Don't. . . . . . .

There was anything hardly an advise to do to improve my condition.

Now I think that those poor doctors and nurses in 90s must have went through hell not understanding what they are doing and what they are supposed to do.

At that time, We were living in Singapore. I was newly introduced to that country. Diabetes was a new disease those days with not much research or study or understanding. Medical professionals were like Gods playing with mere mortals. New Drugs, methods, ideas were given n introduced so often that at one point I thought that no more guinea pigs left in labs that we human patients are being used for research.

I stopped all contraceptive. Two years into Singapore, I became pregnant. Unplanned. I went to see doctor. He advised me to get admitted into hospital immediately. He said, baby may born with autism or with no limbs etc because I am a diabetic. I went blank. Nobody close enough to discuss. I was in hospital for almost 7 days. Day 2 I asked for the doctor who got me admitted. I was told that he went to Australia n will be back in 15 days. Everyday different doctor. Same questions n same answers. Those days no vegetarian options in food served. (Of course it didnt get better last time i was checked into Eng Teng Fong, few years ago). One cup rice. One cup boiled cabbage (usually). I cup clear soup. Twice a day, 1 tsp Milo mixed in 250 ml water. 2 buiscuits with every cup of milo. After three days I felt like running away as I was damn hungry! Every 2 hrs a prrick on a finger to check blood Glucose. Dutifully every day morning n evening, an advise from nurse to opt for an abortion n not to take any chance as the baby may be born 'diffective'. I called my dad in India. He asked me to come home. Our family doc simply said, 'diabetes? So what? We deliver babies in India in every ondition. Come home! '

On 7th day an Indian doctor, Gurdeep Singh (I can never forget the name as he saved me n my daughter.) visited n asked why I am there. After listening to me, he turned to the nurse, n said, ' she is Indian! Fir God's sake if you don't feed her properly, forget about Glucose levels, she will die here of hunger. I am signing discharge.' Even today I thank him. I got discharged, took the next flight, went home. After 8 months Delivered a beautiful perfect baby girl. End of another chapter of life with Diabetes highlighted!

There was is a way for doctors n medical field escape from n hide their incapability. Genetics. I get a rash, doctor asks "anyone in yur family has diabetes?" (POSSIBILITY 3) I changed countries or doctors, to create a new medical file, in data collection, routine question. It's like a disclaimer. "Don't blame me if my treatment doesn't work. Blame your genetics!" I had pevilage to see my great grandfather n great grandmother on both sides of my family. They passedaway peacefully. None of them were diabetics. Not even my grand fathers n grand mothers from both sides of my parents. So where did this mutation started? where research found that diabetics is genetic? When did it happen? Why n how did it started? A very valid topic to research on to find the root cause. To save mankind n survive from extinction. But commercially not viable. So, govts n medical field of every faculty not interested. We need an organisation's that represents humans.

After so much of experience with medicines n doctors, I started believing that everyone should get knowledge of their disease n get to chose their medication. Like doctor gets a degree, patients should have certification course on their disease. I came to this stage when a doctor said, "we start giving medication hoping that it works on you. If it works, well n good for both of us. Otherwise we change. Our guess is as good as yours" (!?!?!?)

Avandia. It's a drug for diabetes. Greatly researched n proudly introduced in Singapore as wellwishers of public n big brothers to 'eradicate' diabetes from roots! Dutifully I brought home the 'elixir' truly believing that that's the end of my so called life threatening ticking time bomb, diabetes! To me, My doctor looked like God himself! 2 doses, that's it. I experienced swelling all over my body. My ankles n knees throbbed with pain. My feet didn't fit into my work shoes!!! After 36 hrs from first dose, I found myself crying n not able to get out of the bed! I called clinic. Nurse listened. Very patiently to all my plight. Asked me to wait n after few minutes, picked up the phone and said, 'I don't see your symptoms in the list of side effects. Take a panadol and continue with the medication.'. I got confused n told her' may be you should include these symptoms and update Your records (?!) She simply advised me to continue with the medication n come back after 2 months for regular check up n review. Of course I made the decision not to take the medication. After 2 days my body looked normal. I was able to get out of bed and walk. After a few years, in a medical news I read that FDA banned Avandia in America. Reason being majority of patients who took the medication died of fluid retention leading to heart attack. However beyond my belief, the drug is still available in the market! Supporting Euthanasia?

Around 2005, in Singapore a test for vitamin B12 was introduced. Again my duty as guinea pig was called for. Very obediently, willingly hoping for a miracle, I stood in front of diagnostic office, gave sample. By this time I stopped feeling any pain when blood was extracted from my arm. Went home and waited for a call from my doc. Again felt I am on edge of a miracle. Doctor read my report, paused, and said, 'your diabetes is the result of high deficiency of vitB12!' (POSSIBILITY 4). I don't know how n why but it sounded fabulous! Though as a vegetarian, my B12 diet options are limited, I felt I am finally on the path to reverse my diabetes!

WRONG! Many years later, during my treatment for

Neurological condition, I was told that my system is damaged because of a basic entry level medication for diabetes, prescribed to all biginners - 'Metformin'. Research proved that Metformin blocks B12 absorption! My doubt. Are the pharmaceutical companies making sure that the condition of a diabetic person gradually deteriorate n forever lives with no hope to recover and forever drug dependent?

IN 2009, I was introduced to insulin. After that, Everytime during review, my doctor had concerns. Sugar levels were never under control. So, he increased insulin dosage. At one point of time, I was taking 30 units of insulin 3 times a day with every meal. BTW, Metformin 150 mg with every meal also continued.

Few years ago, through another self observation Phase, I realised that, my body is not responding to any diabetic medicine. Now I think the condition might have started long ago n no doctor felt like checking or rather medical diagnosis conveniently has not developed in that angle which benefits patients n a loss to pharmaceuticals.

Another inevitable Phase of my life n any woman's, is MENOPAUSE (POSSIBILITY 5). My earlier readings or gained knowledge to prepare are all proven junk to my actual experience. The most instable Phase of my life. A total nonsense. I had most erratic n unstable harmones, sugar levels, blood pressure, energy levels, life, n doctors. The worst were the doctors. They think by reading a few books in few years written by someone , by prescribing a few mwdicines cooked up by someone in a lab, they become Gods! Very busy minting money to fulfill their dreams n pay their educational loans, these robots are proved to be senseless n insensitive. A doctor almost killed me with his idea of treatment n medication! I got sort of angry thinking why they didn't treat me for my stress or harmonies or menopause if the doctors already knew, Which they claim they new, that all these external factors increase my sugar levels n got nothing to do directly with my pancreas or insulin.

So, what's next? I am understanding that at this rate, death is a simple solution for diabetes. And its too not at all simple for diabetics. Its slow and extremely painful. What actually happens to body? Organs deteriorate slowly. Nerves damage. Diabetic neuropathy. Can lead to organ failure n painful amputation of limbs. Stroke. Kidney failure. Liver failure. Ugly patches on skin. Skin rashes. Low immunity. Diabetic retinopathy. Can lead to slow deteoration of eye sight n total blindness etc etc

Available medications in the market are absolutely of no help. However we, diabetics, take the medication hoping for a miracle n with every pill remind ourself that we are one step closure to end n that too a very painful end.

To live a slightly possible cushioned Last few years of my life, I moved to millet diet. I eat more vegetables. Carefully calculated carbs. Drink atleast 3 liters of water. Anything sweet is poison to me. Whoever offers sweet to me are my murderers. I take food from nature. Man made is proven corrupted.

Couple of months after publushing the contents of this blog, I came across microbiomes. I started reading, taking notes, n charting. I have a strong feeling that my diabetes condition has strong microbiome impact (POSSIBILITY 6). I am born with a slightly weaker constitution. When I first went to Singapore in 1996, I fancied processed food. First time I was exposed to so much variety of packed food, I started picking up everything that I could eat. Cereals, soups, pasta, pizza etc. At the sametime, I had UTI. I clearly remember that the doc treated the infection for months with a variety of antibiotics. My immune system was murdered. My colds n coughs used to be so bad that I used to suffer for months. Again treated with variety of antibiotic concoctions. I think these heavy doses of antibiotics killed my gut microbiome. Which resulted in disruption to my nutrition absorption. Which caused a poor ecosystem in my body. My cell membrane is corrupted with malice data. Resulted in absorption of wrong substance. Resulted in spiked Glucose levels n no response to any medication clinically proven to be 'diabetic' medicines Which are developed to produce artificial insulin in my body. No. I believe that my body doesn't need anymore insulin. My body needs repair to system to absorb nutrition to improve my metabolism, n stamina. Once this is done, my organs will be back to efficient functioning. No more wrong signals.

When i see a new sweet shop open, bakery inagurated or see cooking shows with no hint of nutrition, anyone celebrating with cake cutting, sweets distributed in festivals, 24 hr TV shows n entertainment luring away humans from physical activities, restaurents promoting 'rich' food, I think, this is one way humans are going to end their race on earth. Eat their way to extinction.

I don't understand why governments don't stop sugar factories. Pass a law so that sugar is considered as murder weapon.

Humans, next time you offer sugar to your kids, grand kids, loved ones, be aware that you are wishing them a painful death.

Many a times, in a person's life, consuming sugar is casual and really has no immediate impact. However, the long term impact on physical body is unimaginable. End is absolutely unimaginable pain. Death is slow and filled with extremely painful that the person begs for mercy killing. Though reaching such state is filled with sweet cruise happy moments, nobody ever wish to be there. What to expect at the end? Neumorous complications can create havoc financially, pshychologcally and physically. Some are Diabetic Retinopathy Diabetic Neuropathy liver diseaase, bladder issues, brain/cognitiveissues, kidney problems, skin issues, dental problems, hair loss, and much more. All because of shabby lifestyle and eating habits and sonsuption of sugar/ carbohydrates mindlessly.

Wake up. Move your body. Excesise. Eat healthy. Avoid sugar.

Sometimes you may receive a QR code image by WhatsApp for a purchase you made asking to pay.

When you walk into a store you may find a QR code at cashcounter facilitating for you to make a payment. You pick up your phone, open Paytm App, click on Scan QR button n will focus on the displayed QR code at counter n will make payment.

What to do when you get the QR code in your phone? No worries. Paytm made it all easy. When you receive a Paytm QR code, open it. (Only if you know the sender and you owe him/her/the biz). Image will be saved in your photo gallery.

Then open your Paytm App. See the pic. Tap on the Scan any QR.

It will take you to next screen with camera on. However, the QR code is not in front of you. So, check the red circled gallery icon on the right side of the screen.

Tap on it. You will be taken to Photo gallery according to your phone settings. Search find n choose the QR code you have received n tap on it. After a couple of seconds you will be taken to a screen with choices. Click on your choice. Do the needful. If you choose to make payment, the next screen will be where you will be asked to enter amount manually.

"సవ్యుదమైన ఓ రఘువీరా! భూమి, ఆకాశం, జలము, అగ్ని అను పంచభూతములు శాశ్వతమైన పద్ధతులను అనుసరించి తమ తమ స్వభావముల మేరకు ప్రవర్తిన్చును. అట్లాగే లోతుగా ఉండుట, దాటుటకు శక్యము కాని రీతిగా ఉండుట నా స్వభావము. ధనాపేక్షతో కానీ, లోభాగుణము వలన కానీ, దండ భయమువల కానీ, ఏ విధముగా నైనా ఈ జలములను స్తంభిమ్పచేయలేను. రామా, నీవు వెళ్ళుటకు దారి ఏర్పరిచి, అనువుగా సహించెదను, నీ సైన్యములు సముద్రము దాటి వేల్లువరకు జలజంతువులు వాటిని బాధింపకుండా ఉండునట్లు చూసేద.

మొదటి నాడు - పదునాలుగు యోజనముల సేతువు నిర్మిమ్పబడెను. రెండవనాడు, ఇరువది యోజనముల దూరము, మూడవనాడు, ఇరువదియొక్క యోజనములు, నాల్గావనాడు ఇరువదిరెండు యోజనములు, మరియు ఐదవనాడు ఇరువదిమూడు యోజనాల సేతువు నిర్మించి లంకా ద్వీపమున వున్న సువేల పర్వతం చేరిరి.

సముద్రుడు – మెరయుచున్న పడగలు గల సర్పములను ధరించెను. మేలైన వైఢూర్యం వాలే శ్యామ వర్ణంతో తెజరిల్లుచుండెను. సముద్ర జలధి నుండే ఉత్పన్నమైన రత్నములచే పొదగబడిన బంగారు ఆభరణములు, ఎర్రని మాలికలు, పాటలవర్ణ మణిపూస తో కూడిన ముత్యాల హారములు, వస్త్రములు ధరించియుండెను . నేత్రములు తామర రేకులు. శిరస్సుపై వివిధములైన పుష్పములతో కూడిన పూల దండ. చక్కని రూపములతో ఒప్పుచున్న దేవతలా విరాజిల్లెడి గంగ సింధు మున్నగు నదులతో సమావ్రుత్తుడై ఉండెను.

My story - living And fighting depression

#NotAshamed This is my story.

I believe personally that "It's ok" should be limited to the condition but not being in that state. I personally believe that There should be a purpose, even forced, to keep mind engaged in finding solutions or active.

20 years ago after my baby was born, I went into depression. Those days, when I explained, my doc told me to try to rest. My question, how? As i was restless constantly. Sleeping tablests no solution as i have a baby. My mom said, I am thinking too much. About what? I didnt know. My mil said, I am having too much luxury and need to indulge more in family work. How much more? I already feel exhausted. My friends said, I should take control of my house. Why? To achieve what? I was damn confused that non felt right.

A few times I cried so much that my whole body suffered with pain. My husband got so irritated that he went into silence for months. My personal and professional life affected.

Sometimes, I knew I was acting irrational and illogical. I had a baby in my hands in a foreign land. Few friends, no relatives, work pressure, and personal goals. I was looking for solution. I met a few at doc's place in same condition. But they irritated me more as non had any solution. We were all in the same boat. Sharing was good enough to know that the condition exist. I am not alien. We all knew that it's not ok as our lives were not ok. Some expressed thoughts of suicide or strangling their crying babies or partners who tried to show sympathy or hadn't eaten for days n physically getting weak which was another major concern! I had a few of my own scary illogical thoughts. No, it was not ok. I went into cocoon. It was not at all comforting. That cocoon was hell. I was trapped. I thought Probably we may not get back 100% of what we were. But a solution must be found. Quick.

After this, I lost many relations. I lost many friends, I regained control over my life, I understood triggers, I understood patterns, I understood my life. All through a kind of constant search of better experiences in everyday life.

After a few years when my life was toppled and my new structured life went down the drain because of no fault of mine, my new gained insight into life, mine and others, though philosophical, helped me and others to maintain or get back our lives to live and thrive.

I agree that it is a personal journey. However, the whole society should be able to identify the "symptoms" of depression and give support to that life. I believe then we can definetly called ourselves modren, developed and evolved society. One thing for sure, Family and friends plays a major role. Period. Medical solutions with chemicals can play only a small part.

Even today, One major research is required to understand "why" is depression very common now a days. If anyone says, only people are expressing now, I don't agree. I have my reasons to prove that. But I think a research on "why" must go deep down with multi-angle study.

Hope to see light for betterment of mankind.

Does India need reservations?

Sir,

try to make people competitive. The govt gestures show that the ST/SC/BC segments in are not self sustainable, good for nothing and forever wait for the govt to hand down something for their livelihood. Kindly identify the reasons for their challenging productivity, address them and support these segments' growth.

India is progressing in much more faster pace than the world can imagine. It's time for the branded ST/SC/BC, to step up with confidence, move out of reservation
stigma and be part of upper classes with dignity and pride.

Govts' actions are branding them forever as Backward and not motivating them to progress. .

Backward category, eligible for govts' support, should be identified with economical status. Economically backwardness also needs to be addressed with systematic strategic approach which should be every govt's aim to eradicate within a time frame and take its people on progress path irrespective of cast creed religion or social status.

Otherwise at the time of announcing a kind of 'maafi', or subsidy or reservation, the govts should accept their failure in addressing the core issues, explain strategies for improvement and development of the segment, to gain confidence of public.

ప్రపంచ అంచనాలని తారుమారు చేస్తూ భారతదేశం అభివృద్ధి చెందుతోంది.ఇదే సమయం బడుగువర్గాలు అన్న ముద్ర పడిన వారు ఆత్మస్ధర్యంతో తక్కువ జాతివారమన్న నూన్యతా భావం నుండి బయటపడి అగ్రజాతుల వారిమన్న భావంతో ముందడుగు వేయటానికి.

ప్రభుత్వంవారి పనులు, జీవితాంతం వీరు 'వెనుకబడినవారు' అన్న ముద్రవేసి వారి అభివృద్ధికి ప్రేరణ కరువైయేటట్టు చేస్తున్నాయి.

వెనకబడినవారు అన్న గుర్తింపు, ప్రభుత్వ చేయూతకి అర్హత వుండటం అన్నది ఆర్ధికస్ధోమత మీద ఆధారపడి వుండాలి. ఆర్ధికంగా వెనకబడి వుండటాన్ని కూడా ప్రతి ప్రభుత్వం ఒక పద్ధతి ప్రకారం ఒక ప్రణాళికావ్యూహంతో
ఒక నిర్ణీత సమయంలో నియంత్రించి కుల జాతి మతాలతో నిమిత్తం లేకుండా సమస్త ప్రజలనూ అభివృద్ధి పధంలో నడిపించాలి.

India - Child Labour Act 1986 - A reality check

As I read the Act and look around in the Indian cities, towns and villages, I ask myself ,

what good is this Act for the common man?
Ten years from now, is life going to be better or worse for the hundreds and thousands of children from low class income and below poverty line?
How many lives have improved with this Act?
Does this Act really help the needy or it just satisfied a few so called intellectuals' appetite for a change with no real benefit to the society?

In 2007, the Ministry of Women and Child Development reported the presence of over 3 million female sex workers in India, with 35.47 percent of them entering the trade before the age of 18 years. Human Rights Watch puts the figure of sex workers in India at around 20 million, with Mumbai alone being home to 200,000 sex workers, the largest sex industry centre in Asia. The number of prostitutes rose by 50% between 1997 and 2004. Child prostitution is a major problem in India involving around 1.2 million children.

The above is an extract from the internet. Just one of the issue the country is facing. Coming to the point in hand, Child Labour Act, can the above menace of the society can be stopped by this Act?

Just walking on the streets and standing among the now the children on the roads, one can clearly see why this Act should not be around.

In my small personal experience itself I have witnessed how girls being taken away from their secured domestic jobs. The jobs which made them live with honour and dignity. They might have worked hard day and night. But they slept without fear.

Why not bring an Act which restricts child birth? No excess mouths to feed, no challenge of money and no child labour!

Why not make education compulsory so that all the children who are thrown on streets have something to do instead of roaming around the streets and trying out drugs and becoming petty thieves!

Buying Private Apartment/Property in Singapore - 2

In Singapore, there are two types of residential properties available for buyers.

1. HDB - Housing Development Board. A government entity. As there are many conditions to buy, sell and rent HDB properties, it is very well advised to check HDB website every time you want to make a transaction. Depending on many conditions, government modifies and improves the eligibility criteria to own and hold a HDB flat.

2. Private property. In Singapore, private residential developed property is available in the market in three categories - 99 years, 999 years and freehold. The number of years are a condition which regulates the cost of the land which the property developer pays to the government.

There are a few points or things one needs to know before buying a condo / private apartment. Very important for foreigners and for some locals too. I am putting these point together out of my personal experience and for general knowledge. Now a days a lot of information is available on net. Search and read. Talk to experienced property agents, friends and colleagues.

Here is some general information other than available list of properties, bank loan conditions and investment.

First is, MCST - short form for Management Corporation Strata Title. Every foreigner who has no idea of Strata Tile has to understand this completely. Generally most of us understand that when we buy a flat or an apartment, we will acquire not only the area we live in, we will also get a proportionate share in the common land in the premises ex: parking area, corridors, roof (if there is no penthouse), all that area that is commonly used by and is available to all the residents. In my knowledge, the share is mentioned in the Title Deed the owner holds under his name and registered in the local Registration Office.

Every property owner is treated as a shareholder of the property. When a sale takes place, new share holder (the buyer) name will be replaced in the MCST in place of the previous share holder (the seller). MCST is also a legal entity that control, manage and administer the common property for the benefit of all the subsidiary proprietors constituting the management corporation.

Building and Construction Authority (BCA) regulates, as the name suggests, every aspect of construction in Singapore. It gives complete information about owning and living in private apartments and condominiums in its publication - Strata living in Singapore.
Apart from the guidelines given in general in Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act (BMSMA), living in a private flat/apartment/condo requires knowledge of much more. One example is, repairs or extensions or alterations one would like to carry out in his premises. Usually MCST refers to BCA guidelines for private properties. Check the below links for an understanding. However, follow the MCST rules. Some MCSTs may modify some rules according to their convenience, within legal boundaries.

Burger King - Singapore

My recent visit to BurgerKing for a pack of onion rings and drink made me think about a few factors like value for money, fancy eating out habits etc etc

I paid about S$15++ for two drinks and two packs of onion rings. Later my visit to NTUC made me realize that my eating out cost can buy the same items four times more. All I have to do is spend a few more mnts in the kitchen to heat up oil to fry onion rings.

Yesterday I was at Justin Bieber's concert part of F1.

Nope. I am not a fan of JB. I was chopping for my daughter. Different story.

Now, coming to the point, there, I saw a girl holding a news paper with the below pic. Surprised that a teenager was with a news paper? Yeah. Today, Newpaper etc etc were distributed at the CityHall MRT - as they regularly do, but unfortunately they all became either waste paper to hold all these teenagers' bottoms for hours or spreads for their food. I couldn't take pics otherwise, I would have written how eco irresponsible the organisers and public can be.

Goodbye Aloo!!

Anyway, the point is, McDonald's is saying Goodbye to the Aloo!!

I am sure they might have got good feedback on their lousy attempt. So, vegans/vegetarians, we are back to square one with no choice in McDonald's except for Waffles for breakfast for those who can tahan.

Buying Private Apartment/Property in Singapore - 1

Buying HDB (Housing Development Board) house in Singapore is a walk on the cake. Everything is in open and very clear. This includes the procedure to find, renovate, apply for permissions etc etc

However, when buying an apartment in a private condo, or EC a few points must be taken note of. I am writing this out of my experience and observation. If you think of or get a few more, add them to the list.

1. You have to first check your eligibility to buy. Though Singapore government is open to foreign investment and inviting talent, it is also very cautious about fulfilling its primary obligation towards its citizens by increasing affordability of living conditions. Part of this is imposing strict guidelines to buy and sell properties.

2. Of course you might have already worked out on the most important factor - Vitamin M - Money. How much cash, CPF, bank loan, Property tax, Stamp duty etc etc

3. Next comes the location. Where do you want your home to be? away from crowd? or middle of the buzz? It completely depends on your taste and purpose. To get some idea on facilities, pricing, etc etc check sites like - Property Guru, ST Property or any other you find through your search engine.

4. You have done your homework on location and finance and found an agent to help you. Great! Now you find yourself standing in the middle of the condo, beside the pool and admiring the view! Superb! Now start asking these questions:-

How many times a week will I be using the pool?

Is there a Gym? how much workout can I do in this?

Other facilities - Karaoke, Barbeque etc etc, how many times a month really me or my family use?

etc etc

You are asking all these questions to justify the monthly maintenance. If you and your family (if you have any) will be using all the facilities once a month or in a quarter is fair enough. If you don't swim, don't do barbeque, hardly use gym once in a week, the money you are paying for maintenance is for others to enjoy and definitely a waste or unnecessary expenditure in your account.

If you are not so keen on the facilities and can live without a swimming pool in your compound which you may or may never use, a gym where you don't know what to do, then my suggestion is to go for those condos where you don't have

all these unnecessary bits occupying space and costly to maintain. Singapore government encourages healthy living among all its residents. Unlike many other Asian countries, the government didn't stop at 'promoting' health but moved forward to build sports complexes and public swimming pools. You can opt to go to these places and pay per use instead of incurring a fixed expenditure every month unnecessarily.

5. Fine, your kids want to learn swimming, you and your wife intend to lose some weight or get into shape. OK, this is the place you want to live. Next, approach the owner, if you can, or ask the agent to get a copy of the 'House Rules' (or some other similar title) to understand the dos and don'ts in and around the condo. The rules will give you a fair idea of living in the gated community. Though all the condos are bounded by the common rules stated by the Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act, the condo Management Council, formed by the residents can still bring out guidelines for everyday maintenance.

6. By rule, the owner must pass a copy of house rules to the buyer. However, if the owner / agent says don't have a copy of the rules book, never mind, just walk up to the Management Office and introduce yourself as prospect buyer of one of the units and ask for a copy. If the Manager hesitates to give one, be polite to borrow one to read there. If you like the place and investing a fair share of your savings in to the unit, trust me, you will find the time to read the rules which will bind you down for a long time to come.

Rules set out conditions of living in the condo. Ex: Pets not allowed or birds not allowed as pets, children below 12 cannot roam around the condo without adults, visitors with vehicles cannot stay beyond 11 pm or overnight visitor car parking is not allowed, installation of any religious artifact outside the door or window visible to others is not permitted, etc etc. It can be anything. However, by reading and understanding the guidelines, you will not let some guard (usually they are the ones to do this sort of job after office hours as the Management Office works only during standard 'office' hours) tell you later that you are not following rules.

7. Now you read the house rules and can imagine your life in the surroundings. Decide whether you are in or out of the deal. Or if you see something missing in the rules book, seek clarity. Know your rights and obligations before committing.

By pointing out these small details, I am not discouraging you from buying private property. You deserve to live in a comfortable and affordable place of your dreams. I am only asking you to include my personal few points to your check list, if you can.

McDonald's Aloo Tikkie - Vegetarian food - Singapore

Finally, after seeing so many colourful ads in the news papers, few friends recommendations, I had to go and buy the new McDonald's Aloo Tikkie!

Here is what I felt after the first bite and gulped it down with some water flavoured with milo. I paid 50% extra on the whole meal and successfully contributed to the company's profits and charity activities for the year.

The aloo pattie is so bland and bad that if the company intends to continue the same item on the menu should stop using the existing cook and food researcher and consider hiring a new cook or research head for vegetarian section.

As usual, the bun used for the burger is dry felt somewhat old and not fresh.

The two pathetic tomato pieces felt so sad that I quickly closed the burger and wrapped it in its original casket sorry cover.

If McDonald's really want to offer a vegetarian choice in its menu and or attract a fair share of profits from the vegetarian or vegan group, they really should start with something better than this.

Last year we tried almost similar in India and threw more than half of the burger in the trash. Couldn't imagine such lousy horrible burger from a company which boasts world wide reputation. The only thing I can imagine that is contributing to its existence in that market is nothing but the new craze and money that is circulating in Indians. Nothing else!

My final words on this is - Not at all worth the amount spent. If you can find a toast box or Ya kun kaya near by spend the money on their toast. Every penny worth.

Latest - is the burger a hit with the customers? NO. To get rid of the stuff already prepared and/or to meet the pattie number target of the month, McDonald's has put Double Aloo Tikki burger on offer! Instead of one pattie you get two.

Kailash Purbath - Vegetarian food - Singapore

The best పచ్చిమిరపకాయ బజ్జి in Singapore!!!

Last week during our weekly grocery shopping in Mustafa, we went to get some chat at Kailashparbat. However, we wanted to go for Mirchi bajji and give it a try.

Whenever we see mirchi bajji on menu, in any restaurant, we order. Just to see how different the restaurant can make. We ate plain chilli, chilli stuffed with potato and chilli stuffed with amchoor and besan. Mostly, it will be chilli as it is or with aloo. There will be too much of besan or chilli. Sometimes too much of baking soda in the bajji batter that biting into the bajji will be like biting into sponge. Oily sponge.

This time when we ordered, we got ready for again some aloo stuffing which completely kills the taste and sometimes shape of the chilli. But what we ordered when it came to the table looked like my mom's!! Very less batter. Enough to cover the mirchi. Still with lots of hesitation and no expectation we bit into the bajji.

WOW!!! The mirchi bajji not only looked like but TASTED like my mom's!!!!! [Just looks and some what taste. still nothing beats my mom's :-D]. Not too much batter, stuffed with jeera, ajwain and some spices. The mirchi hotness is less but enough to tango with the stuffed masala.

Mirchi lovers, next time when you are around the area, try for yourself :-) The restaurant is just in front of Mustafa's 2nd Exit.

Caste System in India - my view

Caste is a stigma in today's Indian culture and society. The thousands of years of practice of caste system which was based on pure logistics of the society then, is manipulated along the way and now has become an issue.

If observed closely, ANY aspect of the ancient Indian system is not created just for the sake of fun. The society was divided into various categories to take care of various needs of the community living. If history is touched on this subject, there are four groups in the Indian caste system. I say history because today the original groups are disintegrated and now they are left in the society as a few 'names' sometimes used for political nonsense or some selfish motives.

These groups were

1. Kshatriyas - their job was to maintain security. Internal and also external peace is their business. Maintaining law and order in the society was in their hands. Every community has to be bound on certain rules for peaceful living. The duty of the Kshatriyas was to make sure that certain rules and regulations are followed in the community. When outsiders attack the community, stand in guard and make sure that the community is safe. These were the warriors of the community.

2. Brahmins - this group is given the responsibility to give support to the community through spiritual propaganda. Man is a social animal. Every human psychologically depends on something to grow strong in heart and hold on to when crisis strikes. Faith and belief are the two pillars of a community's existence. Brahmins were to make sure that the community stays together through regular meetings in temples, maintain faith so that a sort of bond is built among the community. Brahmins were the brain of the society. They helped forming laws for human existence. They, along with other community leaders formed rules and regulations for the society to follow. They were the heads of spirituality. They explained the rules of living and norms of the society as prescribed in vedas.

3. Vysyas - without economy, there is no existence of society. Even bartering had some rules. For a community to flourish and progress, Vysyas, the business people, made sure that goods are bought and sold. Whether barter system or invention of money, this group made sure that the people work and work and work for something to buy, possess, and were always busy.

4. Sudras - This group was involved in the maintenance of the hygienic part of the community. This group was exposed to germs and bacteria. Due to the non availability of personal hygiene products, (today's commonly known - Dettol, Lifebuoy etc) this group was kept away from the social activities. Primarily from the temples, which were the main community gathering places, with a fear of contamination and unknown contagious diseases.

This thousands of years of practice came into question in late 20^th centuary. The reason was, over the years, the Indian sub-continent faced many invasions, religiously and politically, that made the community shut down and close up its fists on intellectual thoughts. This caused a gap between groups. Nobody were allowed to question the system. Just follow, maintain and exist. Leaders were scared that any discussion may lead to an alternative thought which may give chance for the other religions/faiths to enter the system and corrupt.

Unfortunately, this resulted in the loss of invaluable knowledge and deterioration of the system itself. As the knowledge was lost, new leaders failed in answering new questions raised along with the changing times. Without the ultimate wisdom, sustained for thousands of years, the system could not support the invasion of new thoughts. As the wave of change engulfed the inquisitive minds of the new generation looking at the new direction, the system finally collapsed.

A new society started forming on the old ruins. But the old could not be forgotten. Some selfish mortals used the old caste system to develop new thoughts. Unfortunately, these were not for the good of the society. These new thoughts didn't support peaceful community living.

After WWII, actions were taken by the government and NGOs to bring out a difference in the society and culture. This happened because of economic revolution in the West and its influence in the living conditions in India. No longer the family businesses or passing down skills to the next generation were maintained. People were given choice to choose their profession and move about. The institution of Joint Family seized to exist. All this questioned the existence of caste system.

Is it possible to erase the entire caste system? Is it possible to change the thousands of years of mindset? If so, for what?

The question should be why? Why do we have to change the caste system of Hinduism? Like in any other religion or faith, which are known to have diverse thoughts of faith, like Catholics, Protestants, Seventh-day Adventists etc etc of Christianity, or Sunnis and Shias of Islam, and like many other faiths and beliefs on this earth, Hinduism has few diversed ideologies. Why is it a big issue?

Sometimes, past is very much brought into the discussions with passionate accusations on society where certain castes are pointed out as deprived and under-privileged. These are simply politicized and manipulative senarios to divert the focus to pain and other psychological emotional issues from the real matters in hand.

If history is brought into every discussion, then there shouldn't be any harmonious existence of muslims, christians or any other faith in India as all are brought in and none were existed a thousand years ago. The caste system discussions were done completely without any knowledge of the vedic period. In a secular country like India, any previlage to any one section of the community is criminal act. The constitution says, equality. But the political wing brought in reservation system for their own selfish reasons.

It is a laughing scenario to say SCs were deprived of many things. Wasn't India as a whole deprived of freedom a century ago? If SCs were so deprived, how come the country has a constitution put together by a SC, Ambedkar? How did he survive, how did he studied law, how did he lived so freely? All the politicised drama to manipulate the entire country by a few educated at that time which is still continuing.

After a few decades, today's scenario will become history, and there will be new accusations and new fights over the rights from a different section of the community who will be labeled as Deprived.

Can anything be done for India from this self destruction pattern which was designed and implemented by a foreign authority in fear that India may grow up to be the most powerful after its independence and will become more wealthier than it?

Time to think rationally for the country's over all progress with an onward focus.

THE CHILD LABOUR (PROHIBITION AND REGULATION) ACT, 1986

ACT NO. 61 OF 1986 [23rd December, 1986.]

An Act to prohibit the engagement of children in certain employments and to regulate the conditions of work of children in certain other employments.

BE it enacted by Parliament in the Thirty-seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:--

PART I

PRELIMINARY

1. Short title, extent and commencement.

(1) This Act may be called the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986.

(2) It extends to the whole of India.

(3) The provisions of this Act, other than Part III, shall come into force at once, and Part III shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint, and different dates may be appointed for different States and for different classes of establishments.

2. Definitions.

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,--

(i) "appropriate Government" means, in relation to an establishment under the control of the Central Government or a railway administration or a major port or a mine or oilfield, the Central Government, and in all other cases, the State Government;

(ii) "child" means a person who has not completed his fourteenth year of age;

(iii) "day" means a period of twenty-four hours beginning at mid-night;

(iv) "establishment" includes a shop, commercial establishment, workshop, farm, residential hotel, restaurant, eating house, theatre or other place of public amusement or entertainment; 1247

(v) "family", in relation to an occupier, means the individual, the wife or husband, as the case may be, of such individual, and their children, brother or sister of such individual;

(vi) "occupier", in relation to an establishment or a workshop, means the person who has the ultimate control over the affairs of the establishment or workshop;

(vii) "port authority" means any authority administering a port;

(viii) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under section 18;

(ix) "week" means a period of seven days beginning at midnight on Saturday night or such other night as may be approved in writing for a particular area by the Inspector;

(x) "workshop" means any premises (including the precincts thereof) wherein any indusrial process is carried on, but does not include any premises to which the provisions of section 67 of the Factories Act, 1948 (63 of 1948), for the time being, apply.

PART II

PROHIBITION OF EMPLOYMENT OF CHILDREN IN CERTAIN OCCUPATIONS AND PROCESSES

3. Prohibition of employment of children in certain occupations and processes.

No child shall be employed or permitted to work in any of the occupations set forth in Part A of the Schedule or in any workshop wherein any of the processes set forth in Part B of the Schedule is carried on: Provided that nothing in this section shall apply to any workshop wherein any process is carried on by the occupier with the aid of his family or to any school established by, or receiving assistance or recognition from, Government.

4. Power to amend the Schedule.

The Central Government, after giving by notification in the Official Gazette, not less than three months notice of its intention so to do, may, by like notification, add any occupation or process to the Schedule and thereupon the Schedule shall be deemed to have been amended accordingly.

5. Child Labour Technical Advisory Committee.

(1) The Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, constitute an advisory committee to be called the Child Labour Technical Advisory Committee (hereafter in this section referred to as the Committee) to advise the Central Government for the purpose of addition of occupations and processes to the Schedule.

(2) The Committee shall consist of a Chairman and such other members not exceeding ten, as may be appointed by the Central Government. 1248

(3) The Committee shall meet as often as it may consider necessary and shall have power to regulate its own procedure.

(4) The Committee may, if it deems it necessary so to do, constitute one or more sub-committees and may appoint to any such sub- committee, whether generally or for the consideration of any particular matter, any person who is not a member of the Committee.

(5) The term of office, of the manner of filling casual vacancies in the office of, and the allowances, if any, payable to, the Chairman and other members of the Committee, and the conditions and restrictions subject to which the Committee may appoint any person who is not a member of the Committee as a member of any of its sub- committees shall be such as may be prescribed.

PART III

REGULATION OF CONDITIONS OF WORK OF CHILDREN

6. Application of Part.

The provisions of this Part shall apply to an establishment or a class of establishments in which none of the occupations or processes referred to in section 3 is carried on.

7. Hours and period of work.

(1) No child shall be required or permitted to work in any establishment in excess of such number of hours as may be prescribed for such establishment or class of establishments.

(2) The period of work on each day shall be so fixed that no period shall exceed three hours and that no child shall work for more than three hours before he has had an interval for rest for at least one hour.

(3) The period of work of a child shall be so arranged that inclusive of his interval for rest, under sub-section (2), it shall not be spread over more than six hours, including the time spent in waiting for work on any day.

(4) No child shall be permitted or required to work between 7 p.m and 8 a.m.

(5) No child shall be required or permitted to work overtime.

(6) No child shall be required or permitted to work in any establishment on any day on which he has already been working in another establishment.

8. Weekly holidays.

Every child employed in an establishment shall be allowed in each week, a holiday of one whole day, which day shall be specified by the occupier in a notice permanently exhibited in a conspicuous place in the establishment and the day so specified shall not be altered by the occupier more than once in three months.

9. Notice to Inspector.

(1) Every occupier in relation to an establishment in which a child was employed or permitted to work immediately before the date of commencement of this Act in relation to such establishment shall, within a period of thirty days from such commencement, send to the Inspector 1249 within whose local limits the establishment is situated, a written notice containing the following particulars, namely:--

                (a) the name and situation of the establishment;

                (b) the name of the person in actual management of the establishment;

                (c) the address to which communications relating to the establishment should be sent; and

                (d) the nature of the occupation or process carried on in the establishment.

(2) Every occupier, in relation to an establishment, who employs, or permits to work, any child after the date of commencement of this Act in relation to such establishment, shall, within a period of thirty days from the date of such employment, send to the Inspector within whose local limits the establishment is situated, a written notice containing the particulars as are mentioned in sub-section
(1).
      Explanation.--For the purposes of sub-sections (1) and (2), "date of commencement of this Act, in relation to an establishment" means the date of bringing into force of this Act in relation to such establishment.

(3) Nothing in sections 7,8 and 9 shall apply to any establishment wherein any process is carried on by the occupier with the aid of his family or to any school established by, or receiving assistance or recognition from, Government.

10. Disputes as to age.

If any question arises between an Inspector and an occupier as to the age of any child who is employed or is permitted to work by him in an establishment, the question shall, in the absence of a certificate as to the age of such child granted by the prescribed medical authority, be referred by the Inspector for decision to the prescribed medical authority.

11. Maintenance of register.

There shall be maintained by every occupier in respect of children employed or permitted to work in any establishment, a register to be available for inspection by an Inspector at all times during working hours or when work is being carried on in any such establishment, showing--

(a) the name and date of birth of every child so employed or permitted to work;

(b) hours and periods of work of any such child and the intervals of rest to which he is entitled;

(c) the nature of work of any such child; and

(d) such other particulars as may be prescribed.

12. Display of notice containing abstract of sections 3 and 14.

Every railway administration, every port authority and every occupier shall cause to be displayed in a conspicuous and accessible place at every station on its railway or within the limits of a port or at the place of work, as the case may be, a notice in the local language and in the English language containing an abstract of sections 3 and 14.

13. Health and safety.

(1) The appropriate Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, make rules for the health and safety of the children employed or permitted to work in any establishment or class of establishments. 1250

(2) Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing provisions, the said rules may provide for all or any of the following matters, namely:--

              (a) cleanliness in the place of work and its freedom from nuisance;

              (b) disposal of wastes and effluents;

              (c) ventilation and temperature;

              (d) dust and fume;

              (e) artificial humidification;

              (f) lighting;

              (g) drinking water;

              (h) latrine and urinals;

              (i) spittoons;

              (j) fencing of machinery;

              (k) work at or near machinery in motion;

              (l) employment of children on dangerous machines;

             (m) instructions, training and supervision in relation to employment of children on dangerous machines;

             (n) device for cutting off power;

             (o) self-acting machines;

             (p) easing of new machinery;

             (q) floor, stairs and means of access;

             (r) pits, sumps, openings in floors, etc.;

             (s) excessive weights;

             (t) protection of eyes;

             (u) explosive or inflammable dust, gas, etc.;

             (v) precautions in case of fire;

             (w) maintenance of buildings; and

             (x) safety of buildings and machinery.

PART IV

MISCELLANEOUS

14. Penalties.

(1) Whoever employs any child or permits any child to work in contravention of the provisions of section 3 shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than three months but which may extend to one year or with fine which shall not be less than ten thousand rupees but which may extend to twenty thousand rupees or with both.

(2) Whoever, having been convicted of an offence under section 3, commits a like offence afterwards, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than six months but which may extend to two years. 1251

(3) Whoever--

            (a) fails to give notice as required by section 9; or
            (b) fails to maintain a register as required by section 11 or makes any false entry in any such register; or
            (c) fails to display a notice containing an abstract of section 3 and this section as required by section 12; or
            (d) fails to comply with or contravenes any other provisions of this Act or the rules made thereunder. shall be punishable with simple imprisonment which may extend to one month or with fine which may extend to ten thousand rupees or with both.

15. Modified application of certain laws in relation to penalties.

(1) Where any person is found guilty and convicted of contravention of any of the provisions mentioned in sub-section (2), he shall be liable to penalties as provided in sub-sections (1) and (2) of section 14 of this Act and not under the Acts in which those provisions are contained.

(2) The provisions referred to in sub-section (1) are the provisions mentioned below:--

                (a) section 67 of the Factories Act, 1948 (63 of 1948);
                (b) section 40 of the Mines Act, 1952 (35 of 1982);
                (c) section 109 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 (44 of 1958); and
                (d) section 21 of the Motor Transport Workers Act, 1961 (27 of 1961).

16. Procedure relating to offences.

(1) Any person, police officer or Inspector may file a complaint of the commission of an offence under this Act in any court of competent jurisdiction.

(2) Every certificate as to the age of a child which has been granted by a prescribed medical authority shall, for the purposes of this Act, be conclusive evidence as to the age of the child to whom it relates.

(3) No court inferior to that of a Metropolitan Magistrate or a Magistrate of the first class shall try any offence under this Act.

17. Appointment of Inspectors.

The appropriate Government may appoint Inspectors for the purposes of securing compliance with the provisions of this Act and any Inspector so appointed shall be deemed to be a public servant within the meaning of the Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860).

18. Power to make rules.

(1) The appropriate Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette and subject to the condition of previous publication, make rules for carrying into effect the provisions of this Act.

(2) In particular and without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing power, such rules may provide for all or any of the following matters, namely:--

                 (a) the term of office of, the manner of filling casual vacancies of, and the allowances payable to the Chairman and members of the Child Labour Technical Advisory Committee and the conditions 1252 and restrictions subject to which a non-member may be appointed to a sub-committee under sub-section (5) of section 5;

                  (b) number of hours for which a child may be required or permitted to work under sub-section (1) of section 7;

                 (c) grant of certificates of age in respect of young persons in employment or seeking employment, the medical authorities which may issue such certificate, the form of such certificate, the charges which may be made thereunder and the manner in which such certificate may be issued: Provided that no charge shall be made for the issue of any such certificate if the application is accompanied by evidence of age deemed satisfactory by the authority concerned;

                 (d) the other particulars which a register maintained under section 11 should contain.

19. Rules and notifications to be laid before Parliament or State legislature.

(1) Every rule made under this Act by the Central Government and every notification issued under section 4, shall be laid, as soon as may be after it is made or issued, before each House of Parliament, while it is in session for a total period of thirty days which may be comprised in one session or in two or more successive sessions, and if, before the expiry of the session immediately following the session or the successive sessions aforesaid, both Houses agree in making any modification in the rule or notification or both Houses agree that the rule or notification should not be made or issued, the rule or notification shall thereafter have effect only in such modified form or be of no effect, as the case may be; so, however, that any such modification or annulment shall be without prejudice to the validity of anything previously done under that rule or notification.

(2) Every rule made by a State Government under this Act shall be laid as soon as may be after it is made, before the legislature of that State.

20. Certain other provisions of law not barred.

Subject to the provisions contained in section 15, the provisions of this Act and the rules made thereunder shall be in addition to, and not in derogation of, the provisions of the Factories Act, 1948 (63 of 1948), the Plantations Labour Act, 1951 (69 of 1951) and the Mines Act, 1952 (35 of 1952).

21. Power to remove difficulties.

(1) If any difficulty arises in giving effect to the provisions of this Act, the Central Government may, by order published in the Official Gazette, make such provisions not inconsistent with the provisions of this Act as appear to it to be necessary or expedient for removal of the difficulty: Provided that no such order shall be made after the expiry of a period of three years from the date on which this Act receives the assent of the President.

(2) Every order made under this section shall, as soon as may be after it is made, be laid before the Houses of Parliament.

22. Repeal and savings.

(1) The Employment of Children Act, 1938 (26 of 1938) is hereby repealed.

(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken or purported to have been done or taken under the Act so repealed 1253 shall, in so far as it is not inconsistent with the provisions of this Act, be deemed to have been done or taken under the corresponding provisions of this Act.

23. Amendment of Act 11 of 1948.

In section 2 of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948,--

(i) for clause (a), the following clauses shall be substituted, namely:-- `

                   (a) "adolescent" means a person who has completed his fourteenth year of age but has not completed his eighteenth year;

                  (aa) "adult" means a person who has completed his eighteenth year of age;';

(ii) after clause (b), the following clause shall be inserted, namely:-- `

                   (bb) "child" means a person who has not completed his fourteenth year of age;'.

24. Amendment of Act 69 of 1951.

In the Plantations Labour Act, 1951,--

(a) in section 2, in clauses (a) and (c), for the word "fifteenth", the word "fourteenth" shall be substituted;

(b) section 24 shall be omitted;

(c) in section 26, in the opening portion, the words "who has completed his twelfth year" shall be omitted.

25. Amendment of Act 44 of 1958.

In the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958, in section 109, for the word "fifteen", the word "fourteen" shall be substituted.

26. Amendment of Act 27 of 1961.

In the Motor Transport Workers Act, 1961, in section 2, in clauses (a) and (c), for the word "fifteenth", the word "fourteenth" shall be substituted

procedures etc etc which we shouldn't be interfered with. But I think it is very reasonable to ask them to move on and move fast to make everybody's lives easy and happy. Now, how do they do it? They are tied down by soooo many things!!! Now, it is becoming a totally different topic. So, let's stick with one we started with - Traffic.

The best solution to clear the traffic jams on major express ways is to use helicopters!!! Yes!! Quick movement across the sky can relieve EVERYBODY!!! Vehicles cleared - no traffic

jam. Victims sent to hospitals on time - lives saved. Damaged vehicles quickly available for inspection - insurance paperwork done almost instantly (here I am tempted to put a smiley face)

Every country is spending millions of dollars on defence, on a war and protection which may or may never happen. Just in the name of preparation and to show to the world that they are 'ready' to defend themselves in case 'somebody' attacks them. Sometimes when I hear about the US deployments in middle East, I wonder if it is really for peace as the animosity that is created seems to be much more. OK, another topic.

Why not for a change show the world that not a penny is spent on military in the name of preparation of defence instead use the personnel and the equipment for the betterment of humans?

1. Human traffic in train stations (in particular at the doors of trains!!) for authorities

One-way traffic!! Long ago when too many motor vehicles appeared on the roads, the ingenious came up with this idea for free flow of the traffic. Now apply to the human traffic. You go from one side and come out from the other whether into a station or train. Easy management in every angle!

2. Human traffic in train stations (in particular at the doors of trains!!) for individuals

When you are on the platform think about the time when you wanted to get out. Frustrated!! Isn’t it? Now, behave and wait for people to come out before you try to get in. Commonsense. You cannot fill up a bottle which is already full. Rushing for office? Start a little early from home. Wait for your turn to get into the train. Remember the universal law. You push and irritate somebody; somebody will do that to you. OK that is too metaphysical and philosophical. Let's try logic. You push and irritate others and in the process you too get irritated. Research shows that psychologically ANY mood an individual steps into will last for quite few hours. Soooo, your irritation may stay with you till lunch and in the mean time you may pass this 'mood' to few others who in turn try to pass to few others one of whom can be you and again you are irritated . . . .. . . . . a never ending story. Looong story short - Behave with conscious mind and treat others like humans in a civilised manner. Enjoy the ride!!!

3. Train stations - General Dos and Don'ts

Hold your bag or belongings in front of you. If you are carrying a backpack, it is even more important. Imagine somebody in front of you rubbing their sweaty disgusting filthy linen on your nose. Yeah!!! It is disgusting.

Every phone has media. Record the announcement about letting passengers out of the train before boarding. Play it LOUD when you want to get out.

Say Thank You to the passengers who are kindly and patiently waiting for you to get out and not trying to push you inside again.

Move with the flow. Don't PUSH!!! No point.

Don't keep too much of hope or expectation during the rush hours. Everybody is as busy as you are. Don't get into a crowded train during rush hours and expect people to treat you as royals. All are just Sardines.

Top up your card or at least check the balance in the evenings. Better is to have an auto top-up. This is not to inconvenience the people behind you in line at the gates.

Remember your Nursery teacher who taught you how to stand in line for your turn for the treat??? She really wanted you to remember it for life. Stand in line to get into the train.

Be compassionate towards everybody. Somebody is in a hurry? Let him/her pass by. One step behind is not going to kill you. There are people alive and kicking who tell stories about missing flights which were crashed later, bombed trains, smashed cars, collapsed buildings etc etc.

Give seat to anybody of any skin colour who is in need. What if the 'Reserved Seat' is taken? There is no rule that only 12 'needy' people should get into a carriage!!! A needy person need not necessarily be somebody with gray hair or a walking stick or lady with huge pregnant belly or blind or disabled. Needy can be anybody - lost someone and rushing to reach hospital or lost a job or simply somebody in pain or anguish. As fellow human, give up the seat so that he/she can rest and rejuvenate. May be in future somebody does that to you, for sure you will remember this incident.

We are Asians. We are with deeeeeep cultural values. The first value in ANY Asian country is to respect elders. You are given enough culture to respect the gray hair and the whole lot of wrinkles for their experience in life and knowledge and wisdom. Be a cultured Asian.

Play your songs soft unless you own a huge hearing aid manufacturing company or at least have major share in it and trying to boost its profits. Moreover people around you may not agree with your preference. The whole point of having earphones is to make sure that you are relaxed and enjoying YOUR song.

If the person next to you is irritating you with his/her song, tap on their shoulder and TELL them 'nicely' to decrease volume or gently tell them that the 'song' is disturbing you. Please help the society in become more civilised and cultured. Don't leave these poor lost souls who may be having nobody in their lives to teach them some good manners. Do some good today.

If you see anybody not giving up their seat to the needy, STEP-IN and make the person aware of the uncultured behaviour.

If you are not offered a seat when you are in need, ask for one nicely.

Ladies, don't sit cross legged in a crowded train. It is absolutely rude to keep kicking the person in front of you with your footware. If you want to maintain your class, get a car for yourself.

Mini skirts. Please have some awareness of your body if you don't want somebody to click your panty and post on their blog. Cover up or accept their creativity and camera skills.

When my friend sent me this video, immediately I showed it to my daughter who started getting into all this crazy 'look perfect' thing.

Thousands might have seen this before. But I wanted to share with many more moms trying to convince their daughters not to get into too much make up too soon and also there is nothing called 'Perfect' with capital P in front.

This is also for those daughters who are searching for some 'look perfect' solution online. Wake up. Its time to go out and make yourself useful in many ways than hide under layers of make up which may cause more damage in long run with some sort of skin cancer or something else.

Love how God and nature made you. OK, sometimes you also took part in making yourself the way you look. Do you know too much of fat in your food may cause red spots on your face? Smoking causes spots on your body just not only your face. If you don't drink enough water or take too much of aerated drinks, your skin will become soggy too early.

Darlings, love yourself. Love the life you are leading. Be confidant of yourself as nothing can illuminate better than that feeling.
